#1 Street Fighter III: New Generation Revisited – Way back in 1994, I had a blast of fun playing Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) plus other Street Fighter II games in the arcades. Naturally, I had a personal anticipation for Street Fighter III. However, Capcom released Street Fighter Alpha (Street Fighter Zero) and follow-up games over the next few years. In the 1^st quarter of 1997, I saw Street Fighter III: New Generation in the local arcade and quickly inserted tokens to play it. I was very impressed with its super-smooth animation and enjoyed it. Still, something about the game felt hollow and weird as well which is related to the fact that Ryu and Ken were the only established Street Fighter characters who returned. Indeed, there was something odd that happened behind the scenes at Capcom when Street Fighter III: New Generation was made. Watch and learn from the videos below.

Under the leadership and design of the legendary Yu Suzuki, Shenmue turned out to be a very groundbreaking video game when it comes to exploration, adventuring and interactions with characters (including non-playable characters or NPCs) and items. Now is a good time to look back at Shenmue with the in-depth retrospective video below. Viewing it felt like an adventure.

#5 You, Me And The Movies React To The Philadelphia Story – When was the last time you saw a romantic comedy film released in the 1940s? The 1940 movie The Philadelphia Story is notable not only because it was nominated for several Academy Awards (it won two) but also because it was the successful comeback of actress Katharine Hepburn who had several failures. In addition, it marked significant changes in the respective lives of Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) when it comes to family matters and getting old as law enforcers. I can hardly believe it has been twenty-eight years since I first saw this movie in the local cinema and it was indeed a thrilling viewing experience. Great Majority Of Las Piñas City Residents Support Dismantling Of C-5 Quirino Flyover To Make Way For LRT-1 Cavite Extension

A survey conducted by the office Las Piñas City Representative Mark Santos revealed more than eighty percent of local residents favor the dismantling of the C-5 Quirino Flyover to make way for the delayed LRT-1 Cavite Extension project, according to a news report by the Manila Standard.

Nearly 82 percent of Las Piñas residents support dismantling the C-5 Quirino Flyover to allow immediate continuation of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project, a survey conducted by the office of Las Piñas Lone District Rep. Mark Anthony Santos showed.

Santos said the survey, which gathered comments from various social media platforms, found that many residents favor immediate construction of Phase 2 of the 3.2-kilometer LRT-1 Cavite Extension, including the Las Piñas and Zapote stations, over retaining the P300.39-million C-5 Quirino Flyover.

Respondents said the LRT-1 Cavite Extension would provide greater public benefit by reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion and delivering more efficient public transportation for commuters from Las Piñas, Parañaque and Cavite.

Many residents said the temporary inconvenience caused by dismantling part of the flyover would be a small sacrifice if it allowed the railway project to move forward and deliver long-term benefits to the public.

They said completing the LRT-1 Cavite Extension matters more than preserving an infrastructure project they consider a major obstacle to the railway’s completion.

USA Reaffirms Support For The Philippines Following China’s Ballistic Missile Launch

Following the disturbing ballistic missile launch of Communist China into the Pacific Ocean, the United States reaffirmed its support for the Philippines, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. Symbolically, the new US Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton issued an official statement.

The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to the Philippines after China test-launched an unarmed intercontinental-range ballistic missile from a submarine into the southern Pacific Ocean.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 7, US Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton said the launch underscored concerns over Beijing’s nuclear weapons buildup and its implications for regional peace and stability.

“The ironclad US-Philippine Alliance has been a tremendous and transparent source of regional peace and stability for over seven decades,” Lipton said.

“Beijing’s provocative missile launch yesterday is further evidence of its rapid and secretive nuclear weapons development program, which runs counter to regional stability and is inconsistent with the pursuit of meaningful arms control discussions,” he added.

Lipton said the United States shares the Philippines’ concerns over the missile launch and remains committed to its “oldest security ally in the region.”

The statement followed a July 6 statement by US State Department spokesperson Thomas “Tommy” Pigott, who said the United States had monitored China’s test launch of an unarmed intercontinental-range ballistic missile from a submarine.

According to Pigott, the missile landed in the southern Pacific Ocean.

“At a time when the United States is working harder than ever to prevent nuclear proliferation, China is doing the opposite,” Pigott said.

He said China’s “rapid and opaque nuclear weapons buildup” remains a major concern for countries in the region and the international community.

The United States also urged China to participate in meaningful arms control talks and establish a regular notification arrangement for all intercontinental-range ballistic missile and space launches.

Such an arrangement, Pigott said, would be consistent with commitments made by the other members of the P5, or the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.

“The United States remains steadfast in our defense commitments to our allies and partners,” Pigott said.

The latest US statements come amid continuing concerns over China’s expanding military capabilities and increasingly assertive activities in the Indo-Pacific, including in the West Philippine Sea.

BPI Customers Can Withdraw And Deposit Cash At Grocery, Convenience Stores And Other Commercial Joints

Customers of Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) are able to withdraw and deposit cash at grocery, convenience stores and other commercial joints thanks to the a newly launched campaign between the bank and over a thousand partner stores, according to a news report by GMA News.

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) on Wednesday launched its “Himala” campaign, allowing customers to withdraw and deposit cash at 1,369 partner stores, including grocery and convenience stores.

The service effectively turns participating outlets into “mini BPI branches,” enabling customers to complete cash transactions without visiting a physical bank branch.

The partner network includes Robinsons Retail Holdings Inc. (RRHI) stores such as Robinsons Easymart, Robinsons Supermarket, Shopwise, The Marketplace, Robinsons Department Store, Toys “R” Us, and Uncle John’s.

The service is also available at non-RRHI outlets, including Amesco, Fitmart GenSan, CVM Pawnshop, Falcor Marketing, Prince Retail, Prince Warehouse, Rodamel Drugstore, Savers Depot, Tacurong Fit Mart Inc., and Tambunting Pawnshop.

Customers can generate a barcode through the BPI app for cash deposits and withdrawals, then present it at any participating store for processing. They may also send the barcode to another person, who can use it to deposit or withdraw cash at a partner outlet.

Customers may deposit or withdraw a minimum of P100 through the partner network. Deposits are limited to P10,000 per barcode and P50,000 per day, while withdrawals are capped at P10,000.

Select services, including account opening and applications for BPI products, are also available through the bank’s network of 8,000 retail partners, which includes pharmacies and gas stations nationwide.

According to BPI Agency Banking head Rally Jereza, the Ayala-led lender is in talks to onboard more partner stores, with the goal of expanding the network to 10,000 outlets within the year.

“For now, I’m satisfied with 8,000 because we want to encourage people to use [the service]. But in terms of expanding, with existing BPI clients, corporate clients… it’s easy to expand. Right now, we just want to be able to maximize all of those footprints,” he said.

Jereza said the initiative also supports BPI’s “May BPI Dito” campaign, which aims to make the bank’s services available in as many locations as possible.

“What began in 2023 as product application points has evolved into a fully integrated banking ecosystem. Every phase—from enabling transactions on tablets to barcode withdrawals and now barcode deposits—was built to ensure safety, simplicity, and trust,” he said.

“This is not just expansion; it is a redefinition of what a bank can be in the digital age,” he added.

BPI said it has onboarded more than one million new-to-bank customers through its agency banking network and aims to increase the figure to 10 million.

Chinese Fugitives And One Other Arrested In Parañaque City

Recently in the City of Parañaque, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested three Chinese nationals – two fugitives and one overstaying individual – according to the announcement by the authorities.

In line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to intensify the country’s campaign against transnational crime and prevent the Philippines from becoming a haven for foreign fugitives, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested two Chinese nationals wanted in their home country for fraud and illegal gambling operations, and apprehended another Chinese national found to be overstaying during the same enforcement operations.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado identified the fugitives as Jiang Yin, 31, and Li Chuang, 34, who were separately arrested by operatives of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) on the evening of June 16 in Parañaque City.

The operations were conducted in coordination with Chinese authorities that provided intelligence information about their crimes.

During the operation against Li, agents also encountered another Chinese national identified as Wang Weixin, 32, whose immigration records showed that he had overstayed in the Philippines and was the subject of an active Hold Departure Order.

According to the Bureau, both Jiang and Li are wanted by Chinese police for allegedly participating in large-scale fraud and illegally operating online gambling activities through the “Qianneng Wallet” application.

Investigators in China alleged that the application was operated by a syndicate, which recruited Chinese nationals to facilitate illegal online gambling.

Authorities further identified the two fugitives as key members of two illegal gambling syndicates, where they allegedly served as supervisors and markers who extended gambling credit and facilitated betting activities.

Immigration records likewise showed that Jiang entered the Philippines in 2019 as a temporary visitor but failed to maintain a valid immigration status, rendering him an overstaying alien. Meanwhile, verification confirmed that Li was already the subject of existing Bureau blacklist and watchlist orders as an undesirable alien and fugitive from justice.

A Look Back at Amazing Spider-Man #362 (1992)

Welcome back superhero enthusiasts, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts, Spider-Man fans and comic book collectors! Today we go back to the mid-1990s to examine a small part of the Marvel Comics shared universe through a tale of the Amazing Spider-Man monthly series.

Following his first-ever encounter and battle with Carnage, Spider-Man realized that he alone cannot stop the sadistic, symbiote-wearing murderer. Worse, Carnage is on the loose in New York City and as time passes, civilians can easily get killed by him. As such, Peter Parker got very desperate and has decided to let his deadliest enemy get loose.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Amazing Spider-Man #362, published in 1992 by Marvel Comics with a story written by David Michelinie and drawn by Mark Bagley.

Early story

The story begins with Spider-Man and Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four are riding a highly advanced team vehicle heading to the deserted Caribbean island where Eddie Brock/Venom is located. Spider-Man knows he is taking a lot of risk to meet Venom knowing that the murderer stalked him and came close to killing him before. Knowing that Carnage can easily kill civilians in New York City anytime, Spider-Man made it clear to Johnny that he needs to get Venom back to stop Carnage.

Sometime after arriving on the island, Johnny and Spider-Man (armed with the Fantastic Four’s sonic rifle) meet with Eddie Brock on the beach. Peter Parker quickly reveals his face to him and attempts to start a conversation. After overcoming the surprise of seeing Spider-Man alive, Eddie quickly turns into Venom and leaps towards Spider-Man for an attack. The webslinger quickly used the sonic rifle at him while Johnny turns into his fiery form. Venom overcomes the pain of the sonic blast, smashes the sonic rifle, and starts hitting Spider-Man hard…

Quality

*Carnage is unrelenting with his acts of violence.*

This comic book tells parallel tales focused on Spider-Man and Venom, and Carnage. The meat of the story is about the desperate webslinger reaching out to his deadliest foe even though it means putting himself in great danger once again. David Michelinie is excellent in the dramatic portrayal of Spider-Man who has literally been pushed to the edge by Carnage and having no choice but to make a decision his own wife (who had a traumatizing first encounter with Venom sometime prior) disapproves of.

In issue #361, Peter Parker was technically a detective who worked on the trail of violence left behind by Carnage. Everything changed for the worse for Spider-Man during his violent first encounter with Carnage and he witnessed how unrelenting the murderer really is. The bloody “Carnage rules” message left behind had impact on his conscience.

That said, Spider-Man’s transformation into a desperate hero is very believable here thanks to David Michelinie’s strong writing.

Along the way, the rivalry between Spider-Man and Venom turned intense very quickly. It was during this encounter where you will feel the pressure intensify on Peter as he has to somehow convince Venom to stop being violent and join him to go after Carnage (note: Eddie Brock and Cletus Kasady shared a prison cell previously). Of course, Venom has the undying obsession of killing Spider-Man and he has no reason to believe him. Venom also has his own distorted belief about innocence. The rematch between the two – with Johnny Storm on the side – is the very meat of the story and it is engaging to read.

Carnage is here as well and the creators showed exactly what Spider-Man feared would happen.

Conclusion

There is a lot to like in Amazing Spider-Man #362 (1992). It has a lot of action drawn by Mark Bagley, has suspense in the right moments and the story itself is very engaging to read. The very heart of the story is the encounter between Spider-Man and Venom on the deserted island due to the high stakes involved plus the tension from the past returned in lively fashion. Spider-Man is desperate and he really pays a huge price for making a decision that his own wife disapproves of. Ultimately, New York City has Carnage as its newest crisis and what happened here blurred away the boundary that separates good from evil.

Overall, Amazing Spider-Man #362 (1992) is recommended.

Trump Honors American Heroes And Founding Fathers During 250th Independence Day Celebration

The United States of America (USA) celebrated its 250^th anniversary and during his 4^th of July speech at the National Mall, US President Donald Trump honored the American heroes as well as the Founding Fathers of the nation, according to a news report by Newsmax.

President Donald Trump celebrated America’s 250th anniversary in a rousing speech on the Fourth of July at the National Mall on Saturday night.

Trump delivered his remarks after 11 p.m. ET, after being delayed by over an hour due to lightning and heavy rains. But Trump said he would not be deterred in celebrating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

“If we have to speak in front of one person at four in the morning I’m going to be here,” Trump said in a speech streamed live on Newsmax. “There’s no way we can be deterred.”

“Tonight we come together for one of the most joyous and glorious milestones of all time,” Trump added. “For two and a half centuries, our American Republic has stood as the crowning achievement of human history.

“This country is the home of freedom. This is the land of liberty. And this is a flag that’s the banner of the most extraordinary, most exceptional, most incredible nation ever to exist on the face of the Earth.”

The president said the American people have shown more courage, done more good, righted more injustice and achieved more greatness than anyone else.

“For 250 years, the United States of America has been the hope, the promise, the light and the glory among all of the nations of the world, all over the world, they try and be like us,” Trump said.

“Nobody can be like us, and with God’s help, we will always be this,” Trump added. “Or even better. We’re going to be better.”

Trump used his speech to honor numerous veterans who fought in American wars, bringing them on stage to salute the flag while telling their tales of heroism.

Among those honored were 104-year-old Ken Schrubing, who was just 19 years old when he survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and 101-year-old Don Graves, who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima.

“These are the fighters and the banners of the Greatest Generation,” Trump said. “They are the greatest generation. They saved the world and they made America very, very proud. We’re very proud of you, heroes all.“

Marine Corporal Pat Finn and Private First Class Rudy Meekins, who fought in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in the Korean War, were also honored, along with astronaut Jack Schmitt, the last American to walk on the moon, and the Artemis II flight crew.

Eleven Gold Star families were also presented with flags during Trump’s speech.

Speaking in front of the first American flags produced, Trump praised the Founding Fathers and the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

“Those 56 patriots put everything at risk, stepped onto the stage of destiny, and seized a victory for the ages,” Trump said.

Trump said the Founding Fathers have allowed America to thrive for 250 years.

“Our cause was just. Our people are brave, our culture is exceptional, and our destiny is written by God,” Trump said.

“And as we can see here tonight, after 250 years, the spirit of 1776 still lives within us all,” Trump added.

Muntinlupa City Honored With Steward for Waterways Sustainability Award

In recognition of its support and implementation of the Adopt-An-Estero and Waterbody Program last year, the City Government of Muntinlupa was honored with the Steward for Waterways Sustainability Award, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Muntinlupa is notably the only local government unit (LGU) in the National Capital Region (NCR) to receive the award.

The Muntinlupa City government, through its Lake Management Office (LMO), was recognized with the Steward for Waterways Sustainability Award for its support and implementation of the Adopt-An-Estero and Waterbody Program in 2025.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau in the National Capital Region (NCR) conferred the award on the city government in recognition of its efforts to care for, maintain, and rehabilitate rivers, esteros, and other waterways.

Muntinlupa is the only local government unit in the NCR to receive the award, the city government announced.

Excavation Site Collapse In Las Piñas City Claims Two Lives And Injures One

Recently in Las Piñas City, an excavation site collapse in Barangay Pamplona Dos resulted in the deaths of two construction workers while injuring one other, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The excavation was done as part of a Maynilad project.

Two construction workers were killed and another injured after an excavation site for a Maynilad project collapsed on Sunday afternoon, June 28, in Las Piñas City.

Las Piñas Police Assistant Chief of Operations Lt. Col. Teoson Rosarito reported that the incident occurred at around 2:52 p.m. at the corner of Aquarius and Libra Streets in Pamplona Park Subdivision, Barangay Pamplona Dos.

Initial investigation revealed that five workers were conducting excavation for a Maynilad pump station when the concrete shaft at the lower portion of the 18-meter-deep site suddenly gave way, trapping several workers. Three were buried under soil and debris, while two managed to escape.

Rescue teams from the Las Piñas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the Bureau of Fire Protection immediately launched retrieval operations.

One trapped worker was rescued and rushed to Christ the King Hospital with serious injuries. The two others were recovered lifeless from the site.

New Philippines Domestic Tourism Program Launched With Over 3,000 Travel Deals

In what is clearly a serious attempt by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to boost domestic tourism a lot, the new program Discover More To Love was recently launched with more than three thousand travel deals from varied hotels, tour operators and airlines, according to a news report by the Manila Standard.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) launched a new campaign offering more than 3,000 travel deals from hotels, tour operators, and airlines to boost domestic travel during off-peak months and support local businesses.

The campaign, named “Discover More to Love,” runs from July to November 2026 to stimulate year-round travel, sustain bookings, preserve jobs, and strengthen local economies during the industry’s traditional lean period.

The initiative serves as an extension of the country’s official tourism brand, “Love the Philippines,” rather than a replacement.

Travelers can access discounts of up to 70 percent from more than 70 hotels and resorts through the Hotels Sales and Marketing Association. The campaign also features more than 250 nationwide travel packages alongside discounted fares from carriers Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, AirAsia Philippines, and Sunlight Air.

Online platforms AirAsia MOVE and Klook are providing exclusive deals, while Mastercard offers special payment privileges for cardholders. Travelers can access the promotional room packages, staycation deals, dining credits, and flexible booking options directly through the department’s enhanced website at http://www.tourism.gov.ph.

Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay said the agency wants to evolve the initiative through feedback from travelers and industry partners.
