When it comes to attracting foreign tourists in the first quarter of this year, Malaysia is number one with 10.6 million tourists attracted and that is more than a million ahead of 2nd placer Thailand, according to a news report by VnExpress. It is recalled that Malaysia counted 42.2 million international visitor arrivals in 2025, and it will host the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in 2027.

Malaysia welcomed 10.6 million tourists in the first quarter of this year, up 5% year-on-year, reinforcing its position as the most visited country in Southeast Asia.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing said arrivals continue to grow despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to Malay Mail.

“Although there is a dip in tourists from the Middle East, there is a slight increase in the number of tourists coming from Asian and European countries,” he said.

Thailand, traditionally the region’s favorite, ranked second after receiving 9.3 million arrivals between January and March, a slight year-on-year decrease of 2.3%, Bangkok Post reported.

Vietnam welcomed 6.76 million foreign tourists in the first quarter of 2026, marking the highest quarterly figure ever recorded and a year-on-year increase of 12%, according to the General Statistics Office.

Malaysia has emerged as one of Southeast Asia’s tourism bright spots in recent years, supported by flexible visa policies and infrastructure improvements.

This is an important lesson to learn as Thailand deported a Spanish man and a Peruvian woman who got caught doing a sex act while riding a moving vehicle locally called the tuk-tuk, according to a news report by VnExpress. Thai immigration authorities have deported a Spanish man and a Peruvian woman after they were allegedly caught performing a sex act on a moving tuk-tuk in popular island Phuket earlier this week.

The 41-year-old man and 43-year-old woman were filmed engaging in oral sex aboard the tuk-tuk on Sunday, in an incident that sparked public criticism over damage to Thailand’s tourism image, Bangkok Post reported.

Police interrogated the couple on Monday night and both confessed to their act, Nation Thailand reported.

They were charged with public indecency and immigration police said that the couple have been blacklisted and deported.

Public sex and indecent acts are punishable by fines of up to 5,000 baht (US$155) under Thai law.

However, the penalties have done little to deter some tourists from engaging in public nudity and other inappropriate behaviour outdoors.

On April 12, a French couple, both 24, were arrested after allegedly engaging in a public sex act on Rayee Beach. The pair were later deported after videos circulated online showing the nude woman straddling her boyfriend and performing sexual acts in full view of beachgoers.

When it comes to international tourism, Vietnam continues to be a fast-growing tourist destination as it successfully attracted almost nine million foreign tourists in the first four months of 2026, according to a news report by VnExpress. With the way it is going, Vietnam could easily break its all-time record of 21.2 million foreign tourists attracted in 2025.

Vietnam drew 2.03 million international visitors in April, lifting the first four months’ total to 8.8 million, a 14.6% year-on-year increase and about 35% of its 2026 target of 25 million arrivals.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) said the figures highlight the country’s rising profile as a safe, stable and increasingly compelling destination.

It is the first time Vietnam has surpassed 2 million foreign arrivals for four straight months, and the first time the January – April tally has reached 8.8 million.

The 10 largest source markets during the period were mainland China, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Cambodia, the U.S., India, Japan, Australia and the Philippines, together accounting for roughly 72% of total arrivals. China and South Korea alone contributed nearly 40%.

The visitor mix is becoming more diversified, with several emerging markets gaining traction.

Russia stood out with growth of nearly 300% year-on-year, buoyed by the return of direct flights, strong demand for extended holidays, and Vietnam’s competitive edge in safety, infrastructure, natural assets and cost.

Southeast Asia maintained strong momentum, led by the Philippines, which surged 73.4% to enter the top 10, overtaking Malaysia. Cambodia rose 41.6%, Indonesia 30.1%, Singapore 29.8%, Malaysia 21.7%, amd Thailand 8.4%.

In South Asia, India continued to emerge as a key market, expanding 59.1% and signalling substantial room for further growth.

Europe recorded the fastest regional expansion, up 53.3% year-on-year in the first four months. Western and Northern European markets posted solid gains, including the U.K. (10.4%), France (12.1%) and Germany (14.5%).

Visa-waiver markets such as Poland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic also delivered strong increases of 52.7%, 19.4% and 23.1%, underscoring the effectiveness of visa facilitation in boosting demand.

According to VNAT’s Tourism Information Center, global uncertainties, from geopolitical tensions to security risks, are making safety an increasingly decisive factor in travel choices.

Vietnam is considering an unprecedented aviation project that would see an airport built on an artificial island off Nha Trang, a major tourism destination.

The Ministry of Construction has submitted amendments to the national airport master plan for 2021-2030 to the government for approval.

It includes a new 497-hectare airport at Van Phong, around 65 kilometers from Nha Trang, on land reclaimed from the sea, according to the government’s portal.

To be situated in Van Thang Commune, it is estimated to cost VND9.2 trillion (US$360 million) and handle around 1.5 million passengers annually by 2030, increasing to 2.5 million by 2050.

Authorities expect the airport to support regional economic growth, positioning Van Phong as a marine logistics and economic hub and enhancing connectivity and boosting tourism.

Offshore airports have been built in several Asian geographies. Japan’s Kansai International Airport, built on an artificial island in Osaka Bay at a cost of some $20 billion, is among the most well-known examples.

In Vietnam, it is anticipated that most international flights currently handled by the old Tan Son Nhat International Airport (serving Ho Chi Minh City) will be moved to the new Long Thanh International Airport by next year, according to a news report by VnExpress. The said move will be gradual and it will start this year.

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam has proposed that international flights should move gradually from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh International Airport in neighboring Dong Nai Province starting this year.

According to the state-owned joint-stock company that manages 22 airports across Vietnam, including 10 international, the transition will make the under-construction Long Thanh a global aviation hub.

In the initial phase — from the start of Long Thanh’s commercial operations later this year to around March 2027 — all long-haul international flights will be moved from Tan Son Nhat airport in HCMC.

During this period Long Thanh will handle 19% of all international passengers in the Ho Chi Minh City market while Tan Son Nhat will continue to handle the rest.

In the next phase, from March 2027 through 2030, all international flights will steadily be shifted to Long Thanh, except for short-haul routes under 1,000 km operated by Vietnamese airlines.

By 2027 Long Thanh is expected to handle more than 90% of international passenger traffic.

After 2030 all international flights will operate from Long Thanh, laying the foundation for a major international transit hub.

Tan Son Nhat will then focus on domestic routes and non-scheduled international services, including charter flights.

Tan Son Nhat, until now the largest airport in Vietnam, handled 109,652 international flights last year, or 43% of the country’s total number.

The ACV has established Long Thanh International Airport as a first-tier subsidiary along with other units for cargo and fuel services.

It is also implementing workforce training programs, including on-site experience at Tan Son Nhat, to develop operational expertise ahead of the new airport’s launch.

It has signed a consultancy agreement with South Korea’s Incheon Airport Consortium, to support trial operations, the transition and traffic forecasting.

Police on Indonesia’s Bali island have vowed to increase security after several foreigners were kidnapped and brutally murdered this year.

“We urge the public to promptly report any criminal or suspicious activity involving foreigners to the nearest authorities,” director of criminal investigation at the Bali police department, Senior Commisioner I Gede Adhi Mulyawarman was quoted as saying by the South China Morning Post.

A wave of kidnappings and brutal murders have tarnished the island’s once-peaceful reputation.

On Feb. 15 Ukrainian Igor Komarov, 28, was kidnapped and later found dead in a suspected murder case, Jakarta Post reported.

A video circulating online showed Komarov being beaten and pleading with his family for help, and indicated that the attackers demanded a US$10 million ransom for his release. In late February his body was discovered by locals.

In March, Dutch tourist Rene Pouw was killed by two knife-wielding motorbike attackers, AFP reported.

According to United Nations data, Indonesia has one of the lowest crime rates in the world, with a murder rate of just 0.3 per 100,000 people in 2022.

Reports from Indonesia’s statistics agency indicate that Bali remains among the safest places in the country. Bali reported 7.05 million foreign tourist arrivals in 2025, the highest figure in the past decade.

According to the Australian government’s travel advisory website, Bali is generally safe for tourists, but caution is advised regarding motorcycle accidents, petty theft and alcohol-related issues.

Malaysia is set to become the first Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) host to implement the World Anti-Doping Code at the 34th edition next year.

President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) Mohamad Norza Zakaria stated at a press conference on April 8 that the adoption of the code aims to ensure that the 2027 SEA Games fully comply with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards, thereby enhancing the transparency and international standing of the Games.

Malaysia’s proposal was approved at the first meeting of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) for the 2025-2027 period, held on the same day.

The World Anti-Doping Code, first adopted in 2004, serves as the foundation for harmonizing policies, regulations, and activities to combat doping among sports organizations and authorities worldwide.

Mohamad Norza also said that the SEAGF had agreed to set May 8 as the deadline for national Olympic committees to propose additional sports for the 2027 SEA Games. After this date, proposals will be submitted to the Malaysian SEA Games Organizing Committee (MASOC) and the National Sports Council for consideration before being discussed at the next council meeting, expected in the coming months.

The 2027 SEA Games, featuring 38 sports, will be hosted across Sarawak, Penang, Johor, and Kuala Lumpur.

#1 Resident Evil: Extinction Reaction/Review Videos – I saw Resident Evil: Extinction in the local cinema in 2007. By the time the movie ended, it was clear to me that the Resident Evil live-action movie series was all about showcasing Milla Jovovich as the action star and the characters from the games were just tokens to add RE relevance (Ali Larter as Claire Redfield in the 2007 film) since the films were not serious adaptations of the video games’ stories. RE: Extinction’s most notable attraction is its Mad Max-inspired wasteland setting and there were some moviegoers who enjoy the movie as a thrill ride. That being said, you have to see how the YouTubers reacted to Resident Evil: Extinction in the videos below.

#2 Resident Evil: Code Veronica Retrospective – I can hardly believe it has been more over 25 years since Resident Evil: Code Veronica was first released on the Sega Dreamcast. At the time of its release, it was clearly the next-generation Resident Evil experience and the first major game (or mainline game) of its series to have fully polygonal environments for players to explore. Come to think of it, RE: Code Veronica was the result of Capcom’s failed plan to port Resident Evil 2 to the Sega Saturn which led to developing a new project mainly for the Dreamcast. If you are nostalgic about RE: Code Veronica or if are a newcomer who wants to discover it, watch this amusing retrospective video.

#3 Horror Video Games Only Playable On The Dreamcast – More on the fun but failed Sega Dreamcast console, there were some horror-themed adventure games in its software lineup that had unique concepts and gameplay features. While Resident Evil: Code Veronica was ported by Capcom to other gaming platform, there were these other horror games remained on the Dreamcast. No porting and no remastered releases of them until now. Enjoy this retro gaming look at those Dreamcast-only games.

#4 Ranting For Vengeance Slams Upcoming Supergirl – Supergirl, the upcoming movie of James Gunn’s DCU, was slammed by Ranting for Vengeance. There was a new trailer of the movie released and it did not captivate me nor interest me. It did not help that the Supergirl actress Milly Alcock actually slammed the fans as there was backlash against the said new trailer. Going back to the new Supergirl trailer, Ranting for Vengeance explains that the modern cinematic versions of the title character and Lobo do not resemble their literary counterparts. He also spotted signs of feminism in the movie. To find out more details, watch the video below.

#5 The Japanese Fisherman’s Cuisine – How fresh and tasty do you like your meal to be? In Japan, there is a place that serves meals to customers using the cuisine of local fishermen. #6 Circus Circus’ 2-Floor Suite – After watching several YouTube videos about Circus Circus Hotel and Casino out of nostalgia about Las Vegas, I found this video about the 2-storey suite and watched it entirely. When I was very young, me and my relatives stayed in a nice suite at the same hotel but this 2-storey suite looks grander, more spacious and more ideal for families or a group of people to stay in. It was only by watching the video that I learned about its existence for the first time. I urge you all to watch it and pay attention to the details.

Cebu Taxi Driver Ordered By LTFRB To Surrender His License For Overcharging K-pop Star

For some time now, the Philippines has been underperforming in the race of attracting foreign tourists and its 2025 numbers have been disappointing. Recently, Philippine tourism suffered another blackeye as a taxi driver in Cebu overcharged a very prominent entertainer from South Korea – K-pop star Soobin – and already the details of the incident spread like wildfire on social media and in foreign news, according to a news article by VnExpress. The said taxi driver has been suspended for 30-days and was ordered by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to surrender his driver’s license.

Philippine authorities have taken action against a taxi driver who overcharged Soobin, a member of the K-pop group Tomorrow X Together, during a trip to Cebu.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, a video posted April 1 on the group’s official YouTube channel, titled “Soobin’s Super Fun and Super Tiring Vacation,” shows the singer and his friend navigating the incident. In the footage, Soobin and the friend arrive at the airport and attempt to take a taxi to their accommodation.

“I checked beforehand, it should be about 300 pesos (US$17),” Soobin says in the video, as quoted by Chosun Biz. “If they charge more than 300 pesos, let’s act angry once.”

However, a taxi driver subsequently approaches them and initially quotes the pair 500 pesos. After failing to negotiate, Soobin gets into the taxi, only for the driver to suddenly demand 1,000 pesos, claiming it was a “car with expensive gas.”

Soobin immediately confronts the driver, saying, “Did you hear that? I’m going to report you,” while documenting the attempted overcharge.

His friend later remarks, “Still, it’s better that we arrived safely. We’re so tired,” and Soobin ultimately pays the originally agreed 500 pesos.

Following the broadcast, the Philippines’ Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ordered the driver to surrender his license plate and driver’s license and imposed a 30-day suspension.

“The taxi driver excessively charged the fare and deliberately did not use the meter during the ride,” the board said, as quoted by the South China Morning Post. “This is a serious offense that tarnished our country’s honor in the international community.”

Philippine National Police Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. also ordered a nationwide crackdown on taxi drivers accused of overcharging passengers. Authorities have since been deployed to monitor transportation hubs, particularly airports.
