US Secretary Of State Rubio Warns Iran To Drop Its Fantasy Of Imposing Fees On Ships Passing Through Strait Of Hormuz

As Iran continues to be unpredictable following the deal it signed with the United States, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned the Islamic terrorist state against the fantasy of imposing fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Newsmax report.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday warned Iran against “the fantasy” of imposing fees on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking after meetings with Gulf Cooperation Council leaders in Bahrain, Rubio said the Trump administration will not tolerate any attempt by Tehran to charge commercial vessels for using one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

“Fees and tolls are the same thing to me,” Rubio told reporters. “If you’re paying someone to go there, I don’t care if you call it a fee or a toll or a donation. It’s a toll.”

Rubio argued such a system would be impossible to enforce without threatening international shipping.

“Let’s say a ship says, ‘Well, I’m not going to pay the fee,’” he said. “It’s not like a toll on a road. You don’t get a ticket in the mail. They get shot at. You shoot at one ship, you sink one ship, no other ship is going to move. So that sort of system is not only unwise, it can’t happen. It’s not even workable. So you might as well abandon the fantasy now.“

The secretary said there was “zero support” among Gulf nations for any tolling system and emphasized President Donald Trump has made clear that charging for passage through the strategic waterway “cannot be a part” of any agreement with Iran.

“There isn’t a nation on Earth that supports having to pay money to go through the straits,” Rubio said, adding, “If you are charging money to use the straits, we won’t support it. We won’t tolerate it. We won’t allow it.“

Rubio’s remarks came after reports that some Iranian officials have floated charging ships for security, insurance, and other services following last week’s U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, which temporarily restored free navigation through the strait while broader negotiations continue.

Under the agreement brokered by the Trump administration, Iran agreed to permit toll-free passage for at least 60 days as both sides pursue a broader peace arrangement.

Rubio stressed the administration is focused less on Tehran’s rhetoric than on its actions.

“We’re interested in whether or not ships are moving,” he said. “If ships are moving as they should be moving, then that’s what we’re going to judge. If this rhetoric is backed up by actual ships being threatened and ships are not moving, that’s a violation of the agreement and we’re going to have a problem with it.”

Vietnam Deploys Hundreds Of Soldiers To Work On New International Airport

To ensure the completion of the ambitious Long Thanh International Airport, Vietnam deployed hundreds of soldiers to work on it as a shortfall of workers was realized, according to a VnExpress news article. The new international airport has been scheduled for a December 2026 opening and it has been anticipated to handle most flights in 2027.

Vietnam has deployed hundreds of soldiers to help build its largest airport, the VND336.63 trillion (US$12.8 billion) Long Thanh, as contractors scramble to cover a shortfall of nearly 2,000 workers before a year-end deadline to open the country’s new aviation hub.

The deployment signals the urgency around a flagship project that has already slipped past its original 2025 opening date.

Hundreds of officers and enlisted soldiers have been brought onto the site in Dong Nai City in the country’s south to reinforce a civilian workforce that has struggled to keep pace with one of Southeast Asia’s biggest construction projects.

The move was confirmed during a June 13 inspection by Construction Minister Tran Hong Minh, who was told by an Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) representative that more than 76% of the total project value had been completed.

The workforce has been topped up in recent weeks but still falls nearly 2,000 short of the roughly 9,000 workers the site needs, with several units calling in military personnel to bridge the gap.

The labor crunch reflects a wider squeeze in southern Vietnam, where a cluster of megaprojects is competing for the same pool of skilled construction workers.

The nearby Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway and the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay expressway are pulling engineers and machine operators away from the airport, and the harsh conditions across the vast, largely open site have made workers hard to retain.

To claw back time before the rainy season, contractors have added engineers, workers and equipment and moved to round-the-clock construction in three shifts and four rotating crews, part of a 180-day campaign to accelerate to the finish.

The airport is now expected to be substantially complete and to begin trial operations in September, with commercial flights targeted for late 2026.

ACV said finishing work on the passenger terminal still lacks skilled technical labor, while other packages are short of machinery operators.

The investor has ordered contractors to staff up for day-and-night work, prioritizing foundation and stone-base work to limit disruption when the rains peak.

At the terminal, which Minh called the project’s “heart,” he urged crews to complete each task definitively, down to the smallest item, and to push outdoor work first to stay ahead of the weather.

The schedule could not slip, he said, and crews had to race against time.

Israeli Officials Fear Terrorist State Iran Will Not Live Up To Deal With America

The deal between the United States and the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran has officially been signed with the goal of winding down the military conflict and starting a negotiating window of sixty days. US President Donald Trump himself sign it while attending the G7 Summit in France.

For Israeli officials however, they feared that Iran will not live up to the deal and will most likely use the 60-day window to strengthen its position, exploit potential loopholes and even prolong the process, according to a news article by The Jerusalem Post. There is no guarantee that Iran will be prevented from launching ballistic missiles at Israel.

Israeli defense officials fear Tehran will use the 60-day window to buy time and strengthen its position, with Iran expected to receive significant relief in economic sanctions and in fuel and oil trade, according to an N12 news site report.

Israeli intelligence assessments, as conveyed to the political echelon in recent days, indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, most likely does not want to reach a final agreement.

In other words, the negotiations being held by the Revolutionary Guards, as well as the approval of the framework agreement, stem from a desire to secure control of the Strait of Hormuz and to receive an economic boost from the United States.

Thus, Iran will aim to prolong the process and avoid rushing to reach a final agreement, the officials fear.

“We should not expect anything else from a vengeful regime. Lack of transparency from Washington concerns government – Furthermore, Israel’s defense establishment is becoming increasingly concerned about a lack of transparency from the Trump administration regarding the Memorandum of Understanding with Iran set to be signed in Switzerland on Friday, sources told N12 News on Wednesday.

Officials are also concerned about how the interim period will unfold, with Iran expected to face significant economic sanctions and fuel and oil relief.

Israeli intelligence assessments suggest that Iran may seek to delay negotiations on the nuclear issue while using the time to shorten its breakout timeline toward a nuclear weapon. Conversely, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that Iran will begin negotiations on the nuclear issue “on the very day we sign the MoU,” according to the report.

The US’s withholding of details in the agreement, reportedly out of concern that Israeli leaks could derail Friday’s signing, points to the extent of the current divergence between Washington and Jerusalem on Iran, N12 reported.

In fairness to the United States, President Trump officially stated that if the terrorist regime of Iran wants to change the peace agreement or fails to comply, American will “go back to shooting at them, dropping bombs on their head.”

Trump also contrasted the new deal with the Obama-era JCPOA, arguing the previous administration tried to “bribe their way out of it.”

#1 Retrospective Videos Of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon – Back in 2000, I was fortunate enough to have seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the local cinema here in the Philippines. Directed by Ang Lee, the film was a dramatic martial arts film set in ancient China. Apart from having established Asian actors Michelle Yeoh, Pei-Pei Cheng and Chow-Yun Fat, the movie’s huge success made Zhang Zhiyi an instant star as she carried a very important role. Its importance in the history of global movies was realized when it earned ten Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. To this day, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a highly admired film and it is not surprising to see it being featured in many YouTube videos. What I posted below are for your enjoyment and enlightenment. Observe how the film impacts YouTubers in their reaction videos.

#3 The Resident Evil Trilogy On PlayStation Revisited – When I was very young, I was fortunate enough to play Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on the PlayStation. The survival horror genre Capcom started with the first RE game really grew not only in popularity and commercial sales, but also in clever game design that included cinema-like storytelling strongly focused on the zombie apocalypse. By the end of 1999, the RE trilogy on PlayStation positively impacted video gaming as a whole and the characters Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield became wildly popular with gamers. #5 You, Me and the Movies React To Showdown In Little Tokyo – I was a teenager when Showdown In Little Tokyo was released in local cinemas here in the Philippines way back in 1991. I never saw it on the big screen back then but I do remember the aggressive pre-release promotions that include previews and an in-depth behind-the-scenes making on TV. The local buzz in 1991 was this…the film was entertaining and the team-up between Dolph Lundgren and the late Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) was well-received. Japanese Prime Minister Hails US-Iran Deal

During her European visit, Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae hailed the deal between the United States and the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran to end the fighting while paving the way for international oil tankers to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a news report by Kyodo News. Japan also remained consistent in its opposition to Iran’s nuclear weapons ambition.

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Monday hailed a U.S.-Iranian deal aimed at ending their monthslong war as a “big step” to de-escalating the conflict that has brought uncertainty to the global economy and roiled her resource-poor country.

Takaichi, who stopped by Italy before attending the Group of Seven summit in France, also told reporters Japan will take part in a joint statement issued by four European nations that welcomed the development and touched on minesweeping operations toward achieving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

“We have been asked to participate…and we will,” the prime minister said about the statement by the leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Italy, after U.S. President Donald Trump said a deal with Iran has been reached that will lead to the reopening of the key energy artery, which has been effectively closed amid the conflict.

Takaichi noted it is important that the contents of the memorandum of understanding, which Trump said will be signed Friday, are “steadily implemented” as well as the “free and safe navigation” of vessels through the strait.

Japan, which has traditionally maintained amicable ties with Iran, has been making “proactive diplomatic efforts” based on the position that “what matters most is de-escalation of the situation,” she also said.

The joint statement by the European nations vowed support for the implementation of the U.S.-Iran deal “rapidly and comprehensively,” while noting that “the urgent re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz with unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation is essential.”

“We are committed to playing our part to achieve this — in accordance with our respective constitutional requirements — including through a strictly defensive and independent mission to reassure commercial shipping and conduct mine clearance operations,” it said.

With discussions between the United States and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear development to start after the signing of the deal, the statement also said the European countries are “prepared to lift relevant sanctions in response to clear, verifiable steps by Iran” toward scrapping its program.

Takaichi reiterated Japan’s position of opposing Iran’s development of nuclear weapons, citing her country’s experience of being the only country to have suffered atomic bombing in the final stage of World War II.

In Tokyo, Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara said at a press conference that the memorandum, if implemented properly, would “help reduce risks to both the Japanese and global economies by ensuring free and safe navigation” through the strait.

A Look Back at Gen13 #4 (1994)

Welcome back, superhero fans, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts, Image Comics fans and comic book collectors! Today we go back to the mid-1990s to examine one of the many tales of Jim Lee’s original WildStorm universe through the original Gen13 mini-series.

In the previous issue, Dale Keown’s Pitt made a crossover appearance, and his presence was strongly felt. For International Operations (IO), John Lynch and the Black Razors, Pitt is a monster that could handle and transport safely. Their stop at the IO facility in the middle of desert disturbed Ivana and only added tension as Caitlin Fairchild daringly returned to rescue her friends (who endured torture and humiliation under Threshold). Things intensified when Fairchild encountered Pitt.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Gen13 #4, published by Image Comics in 1994 with a story written by Jim Lee and Brandon Choi with artwork done by Jeffrey Scott Campbell. This is the fourth issue of the mini-series.

Early story

The story begins inside the facility in the middle of the desert. Fairchild and the freed Pitt find themselves cornered by John Lynch, Ivana and several armored personnel with their guns aimed at them.

Lynch wants the two secured and escorted to the holding cells. Ivana, who is already upset over the immense damage caused by Fairchild and Pitt moments earlier, wants the two killed instead. Lynch tells her to stop worrying as he will take both Fairchild and Pitt with him the next morning. Ivana responds negatively and orders the Black Razors to have Lynch arrested.

As the Black Razors did not immediately respond to her, Ivana grabs a machine gun and kills them in front of Lynch. Fairchild seized the moment to sweep Ivana and her two red-colored armed guards off their feet to cause them to lose their balance. As Fairchild and Pitt begin to make their next move, more armed guards under Ivana arrived.

Meanwhile on another part of the facility, Grunge, Roxy, Rainmaker and Burnout are on the loose and they have the blonde young boy Timmy with them…

Quality

*Facing certain death, Roxy uses her power to overcome the two armed troopers of Ivana.*

At this particular stage of the mini-series, the story here is creatively a handsome pay-off to what was built up in the previous issue. As Caitlin Fairchild got delayed in her pursuit to rescue her friends, those four young people saw their respective super abilities manifest which enabled them to overcome tough and violent odds. Grunge here got braver, Roxy learned more how to handle her power properly and the more. As such, the building blocks of Gen13 as a team have started to take shape while still leaving some room left for suspense and surprises. In short, there is more to come after this story and the creative team carefully paced the storytelling, the spectacle and the character development.

Dale Keown’s Pitt continued to have a presence here and he does have an exit that is worth the attention of readers. Anyone who is not fan of Pitt will be able to discover something new and interesting about the character. In some ways, this comic book – plus issue #3 – made me a bit interested to read the Pitt comic books that were published under the Image Comics banner.

*Team 7 made a quick appearance here. This was a clever way to promote the Team 7 mini-series to WildStorm fans.*

John Lynch, one of the more established characters of WildStorm who appeared in mostly supporting roles, got a bigger spotlight here as he uses his authority as an IO executive which impacted the direction of the story. To be clear, Lynch is not in line with the managers of the facility (which belongs to IO) and his conflict with Ivana led to violence in the facility. What happened also led to his encounter with the Gen13 teenagers. As Lynch realizes their potential, he takes action using IO’s resources to even the odds as Ivana’s troops begin to arrive.

Conclusion

*Caitlin Fairchild, Pitt, John Lynch and Ivana early in the story.*

Compared to the previous issue, Gen13 #4 (1994) has stronger writing with regards to storytelling and character development. The plot really got deeper here even as twists and turns happened. At this stage, the facility has turned into a battle zone which literally placed the Gen13 teenagers and Lynch into a corner. This 4^th issue of the mini-series is very entertaining and gripping.

Overall, Gen13 #4 (1994) is highly recommended.

A Look Back at Gen13 #3 (1994)

With the first two issues over, the stakes have been raised now that Caitlin Fairchild has been separated from her eventual teammates. Fairchild is alone in the middle of the desert in Nevada and her pals – who went back to the International Operations (IO) facility that trained them – are in deep trouble already.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Gen13 #3, published by Image Comics in 1994 with a story written by Jim Lee and Brandon Choi with artwork done by Jeffrey Scott Campbell. This is the third issue of the mini-series.

Early story

The story begins in the desert. From a distance, Caitlin Fairchild spots a paramilitary convoy delivering something big and important. It turns out the convoy is handled by the Black Razors and they arrived at the IO facility in the middle of the night.

Ivana (one of leaders of the facility) woke up to personally examine what the convoy delivered to them unexpectedly. When she asked who is giving the orders, John Lynch (formerly of Team 7) appears and he tells her that he has an unidentified super-powered being that has to be secured at their facility only for the night.

Inside the heavy containment unit is Pitt…

Quality

I can say that the story here is both a thrill ride and also a build-up for what is clearly the next stage of the mini-series’ concept. The addition of Pitt here is actually a crossover-related appearance as the said character is a creation of Dale Keown (essentially a non-WildStorm character). Pitt’s presence added weight to the spectacle as a short fight between him and a stronger Caitland Fairchild over a misunderstanding took place.

One part of the narrative followed Fairchild who made the suicidal move to return to the facility alone as she decided to rescue her companions Roxy, Grunge, Rainmaker and Burnout. Even though she already has an idea that a trap could be set up for her, Fairchild has fully decided to pursue a rescue rather running away to freedom. As such, Fairchild here is braver, took huge risks to meet her new goals and has shown notable changes following what happened in the first two issues.

Another part of the plot follows Roxy, Grunge, Burnout and Rainmaker who have been held captive in very humiliating fashion as they have been stripped naked and have been restrained in ways that would outrage the human rights activists. The main antagonists Ivana, Threshold and Nicole wield absolute power in the facility and they are indeed ruthless. Ivana, who had to receive and meet John Lynch, is obsessed with experimenting on gen-active youth to create her own personal army of super-powered beings. Threshold helps her by torturing the captured companions of Fairchild and he is so cold-hearted, he actually enjoys performing both torture and humiliation.

The WildStorm universe veteran John Lynch (read my past reviews of Team 7 and The Kindred) appears here and was portrayed to be uncompromising and dead serious with his task handling Pitt’s transfer. His presence and interactions with Ivana shed more light on the purpose of International Operations (IO) and how the organization is connected with the youth program at the facility.

Conclusion

*Grunge gets tortured in front of his naked companions. Threshold takes pleasure in torturing him.*

Gen13 #3 (1994) has a lot of thrills plus intrigue and even some shock value that made it stand out among the many superhero comic books about powered teenagers published in the 1990s. There is clear development on Fairchild and what she does here is the result of the huge decision she made at the end of issue #2. Fairchild’s captured companions also got their fair share of development as well and it is here where their bond as a group really grows. Along the way, Pitt added the monster presence but with a touch of heroism instead of instant death towards others. Anyone who follows Pitt should see his crossover appearance here. Indeed, this third issue of the mini-series is still fun to read.

Overall, Gen13 #3 (1994) is recommended.

Following the recent meeting between Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and Philippines Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro in Singapore, the two nations will soon discuss the export of Japanese-produced surface-to-ship missiles to the Philippines which itself has been harassed a lot by Communist China at sea, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

It should be recalled that Japan successfully tested the Type 88 surface-to-ship system during the Balikatan exercise held in the Philippines and it has been considering exporting it to the nation for its defense enhancement.

Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro affirmed Sunday that talks will be launched on the export of surface-to-ship missiles from Japan to the Southeast Asian nation.

Koizumi revealed this in talks with reporters after holding a meeting with the Philippine defense chief in Singapore earlier in the day.

Type-88 surface-to-ship guided missiles of Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force (SDF) are expected to be a candidate.

The Philippine side is believed to have shown an interest in procuring the missiles as the Japanese Self-Defense Forces used them in the Balikatan multilateral exercises conducted in Manila between April and May.

The SDF, which had taken part in the annual exercises organized by the United States and the Philippines as an observer since 2012, joined the drills on a full scale for the first time this year following the entry into force of the Japan-Philippine reciprocal access agreement in September 2025.

The possible procurement of Type-88 missiles is expected to help reinforce the deterrent and response capabilities of the Philippines, which is in confrontation with China in the South China Sea.

Koizumi also said he and Teodoro broadly agreed that Abukuma-class destroyers of Japan’s Maritime SDF will be transferred to the Philippines as soon as they are decommissioned.

Japan Commits To Transfer Military Equipment To The Philippines To Enhance Its Defense Capabilities

The Philippines’ capability to defend itself will be enhanced soon as Japan committed to transfer crucial military equipment to them as part of the defense cooperation, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Japan has pledged to beef up its defense cooperation with the Philippines through the provision of military equipment and technology aimed at enhancing the Philippine forces’ capabilities.

The commitment was made after a summit meeting between President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday.

In a joint statement, the two nations committed to step up collaboration to facilitate the transfer of defense equipment, including destroyers, TC-90 aircraft and radar systems.

This was in accordance with the two nations’ Agreement concerning the Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology and the Official Security Assistance (OSA), a collaborative effort to enhance defense capabilities and strengthen security cooperation.

Takaichi reaffirmed Tokyo’s commitment to contributing to the capacity building of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), especially in the maritime area.

The two leaders vowed to advance cooperation in defense sector to support the development of mutually beneficial industrial capabilities, enhance supply chain resilience, and contribute to interoperability and long-term defense readiness.

The Philippines welcomed Japan’s newly revised Three Principles on Transfer of Defense Equipment and Technology and its implementation guidelines, acknowledging that such efforts contribute to regional peace and stability.

Marcos and Takaichi recognized that the closer cooperation between their defense authorities in recent years has laid “a robust foundation for their bilateral partnership.”

They agreed to the early convening of the next Philippines-Japan ‘2+2′ (Foreign and Defense Ministerial Meeting) to strengthen strategic coordination and ensure effective high-level policy discussions.

Maritime cooperation – Both leaders also stressed the need to advance maritime cooperation, considering that the Philippines and Japan are “neighbors connected by the sea.”

They acknowledged that enhancing maritime cooperation, underpinned by respect for international law, promotes peace, stability, and mutual trust.

Marcos also expressed gratitude to Japan over its continued support in enhancing Philippine Coast Guard’s capabilities through the provision of patrol ships.

The two leaders vowed to promote mutual exchanges between the maritime law enforcement agencies through joint training and capacity-building activities aimed at ensuring maritime safety and upholding the rule of law in the Indo-Pacific.

Philippines President And US Secretary Of State Discuss Important Matters Over The Phone

During the morning yesterday, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos received a telephone call from United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and they discussed security and economic priorities, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. Rubio reaffirmed America’s commitment to peace and stability in the South China Sea and the Luzon Economic Corridor (for references, click here and here).

President Marcos and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed bilateral security and economic priorities, including developments in the South China Sea and regional energy concerns, during a phone call on Monday morning, June 1.

In a Facebook post, President Marcos described his phone call with Rubio as “productive.”

“I had a productive phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning, during which we discussed critical regional and economic priorities, and bilateral trade matters,” he said.

“Our exchange underscored our countries’ mutual commitment to strengthening the PH-US alliance and addressing shared regional interests,” he added.

Details of the conversation were first released by the US State Department through a readout attributed to spokesperson Thomas Pigott.

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to discuss a range of bilateral economic and security priorities, including efforts to advance peace and security in the South China Sea,” the statement read.

According to the US State Department, Rubio also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to the Luzon Economic Corridor — a trilateral initiative involving the Philippines, the US, and Japan aimed at accelerating infrastructure and investment projects in Luzon.

“The Secretary reaffirmed US commitment to developing the Luzon Economic Corridor and exploring ways to address the energy challenges in the region,” the statement added.

Rubio also underscored the strength of the long-standing alliance between Manila and Washington.

“The Secretary emphasized the strength of the United States-Philippines Alliance and the continued close cooperation as the two countries commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations and 75 years as Allies in 2026, the US readout stated.

The Philippines and the United States are treaty allies under the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty and have expanded defense cooperation in recent years amid growing tensions in the South China Sea.
