A Look Back at X-Men 2099 #19 (1995)

Welcome back, superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts, X-Men fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Marvel Comics shared universe through one of the many tales of the X-Men 2099 monthly series.

Issue #18 had some political flavor as it tried to shake the foundation of the X-Men 2099 series. It also had symbolism that reminded me about the criminal past of Las Vegas, the twisted Black Panthers (the evil Marxist-Leninist and black power political organization of America) and the social unrest that happened in America during the era of Richard Nixon as US President. At this point in the series, the futuristic X-Men are a shell of themselves as the members have been separated and are involved in different developments far away from each other.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-Men 2099 #19, published by Marvel Comics in 1995 with a story written by John Francis Moore and drawn by Ron Lim.

Early story

The story begins inside an old facility in New Mexico. Shakti, who is only wearing a t-shirt and a panty – has been unconscious for several minutes. After waking up, she learns that a thermionic detonator (left by their former leader Xi’an) has been set to explode and time is quickly running out. She also realizes that the bodies of the Chosen have been taken.

In desperation, she wakes up Skullfire and Luna, and they ran out of the facility to save themselves. The facility blows up and Skullfire asks Shakti for an explanation. She reveals to him that Xi’an – whom she momentarily encountered several minutes prior – is responsible for the destruction and he clearly made an attempt to kill them all. As such, Xi’an is now an enemy of the X-Men.

Meanwhile in Las Vegas, a heavily mutated and oversized Lytton Synge grabs his sister Desdemona by the neck. While explaining details to him, Desdemona uses a failsafe device to cause him to stop moving and free her. She puts on additional gear that enables her to control Lytton’s body and she made it clear to him that he will be used against Halloween Jack…

Quality

A comic book page featuring a confrontation between a woman with pink hair and a villainous figure. The woman expresses anger while the villain makes a smug remark. Various characters engage in dialogue, highlighting tension and supernatural elements. — *Desdemona, Halloween Jack and Meanstreak are together again. Desdemona here had a desperate attempt to reclaim the casino and their company from Halloween Jack.*

There is a good amount of intrigue in this comic book covering the three plot threads. The thread of Shakti, Skullfire and Luna was very short but it added to the tension about having their former leader Xi’an as a deadly enemy.

On the other hand, the events set in Las Vegas saw the return of Lytton Synge in a bloated, Hulk-like figure as Desdemona used him to attack Halloween Jack who has gained control of the Synge business empire (at least in the building they are in) as he continues with his obsession of changing Las Vegas and moving forward with his plan that could mean doom for the city. In this particular plot thread, Halloween Jack has prepared highly advanced technology to redefine Las Vegas in the most phenomenal way. What I find disturbing is Meanstreak’s lack of morality as he keeps on assisting Halloween Jack (his old friend Jordan) with his sinister plan. This makes Meanstreak appear cold-hearted, sinister and unbecoming as an X-Men member.

Over at California, Krystalin pursues a mission to find Billy the Kid as she has absolutely no choice as the life of her brother is at stake. The Free Radicals literally have her cornered and she cannot do anything except doing what they want her to do. In this particular plot thread, the creators did a good job presenting Krystalin as desperate as she is in the middle of a conflict between the Panthers of Wakanda (where her brother belongs to) and the Free Radicals.

Conclusion

A comic book page featuring a distressed woman in a white outfit, looking alarmed as she interacts with a control panel, with countdown clocks and dialogue about a bomb and urgent questions. — *Shakti in a very dangerous situation with not much time left.*

X-Men 2099 #19 (1995) unsurprisingly moved plot developments forward. Apart from developing the X-Men members more, this comic book also expanded the lore of 2099 America nicely. At this stage, I am eager to find out what would happen next to the X-Men members in their respective plot threads. That said, I am still engaged enough to continue with the remaining X-Men 2099 issues that I have yet to read.

Overall, X-Men 2099 #19 (1995) is recommended.

A Look Back at X-Men 2099 #18 (1995)

September 28, 2026September 22, 2026carlocarrasco

After 17 issues read, it is clear that the futuristic X-Men were destined to be separated from each other before getting back together against all odds. By having the team in disarray and the members separated with different situations that affected them, it provided the comic book creators opportunities to really develop each member extensively while expanding the lore of Marvel 2099 in creative ways. After seventeen issues, Skullfire has transformed into a more reasonable person who aligned himself with Shakti closely. Meanstreak meanwhile went to Las Vegas with Halloween Jack to do something that could alter the city seriously. Krystalin in California is on a quest to find her kidnapped brother.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at X-Men 2099 #18, published by Marvel Comics in 1995 with a story written by John Francis Moore and drawn by Ron Lim.

Cover of X-Men 2094 comic book, featuring characters in dynamic poses with vibrant colors and the title prominently displayed. — *The cover.*

Early story

The story begins in Berkeley where Krystalin and her companion visit a ruined part of the city. She is told that it is best for them to turn around but Krystalin insists on finding the Free Radicals who are responsible for kidnapping her brother Zak. As they walk further, they both fall into a trap door only to find themselves in a very dark wind tunnel which caused their fall to slow down. After landing on the floor, gas is suddenly pumped on them. A very bright light followed which disoriented them both. A man and woman appear to take them in. Krystalin decides to fight and find her brother.

Meanwhile in the mountains of New Mexico, three intruders appeared inside a secret laboratory while Shakti struggles to sleep. The intruders analyze Zhao’s attempt to make analogs of the original 20^th century X-Men members which ended in failure. One of them thinks that Shakti has finally halted and reversed the deterioration. Using technology, they have the three fossilized bodies teleported to the Theater of Pain.

Shakti, who has been unable to sleep, senses the presence of a mutant inside the laboratory…

Quality

A group of diverse, stylized characters in a comic book setting, gathered in a futuristic underground location. The central figure, wearing a yellow robe and holding a glowing orb, is flanked by various characters with unique features, including a woman in black, a man with a muscular build, and a child with colorful attire, all engaged in a discussion. — *Krystalin and her companion meet the Free Radicals, a group of dangerous freaks.*

As expected, this comic book continues the tales of the previous issue, specifically Krystalin’s quest and Halloween Jack’s takeover of Las Vegas. Things, however, turned for the weird and the wild.

Krystalin’s quest for her kidnapped brother Zack led her to facing off with the Free Radicals, a group of freaks composed of scientists who have been waging guerilla war against governmental and corporate oppression. Elements of politics were mixed into the narrative of Krystalin’s tale as it brings back memories of radicalized groups in America who engaged in crime, political activism and terrorism during the rule of President Richard Nixon (for insight, click here). As expected, Krystalin finds herself on a huge disadvantage and her will to get her brother (a highly prominent part of the Panthers) back really got tested here.

As for the other important tale, Halloween Jack (assisted by Meanstreak) pushed forward with his insane intention to take over the Synge casino and bring down the syndicate while Desdemona Synge is helpless. This tale easily reminds me of the Las Vegas legacy of crime, particularly with the establishment of businesses owned by gangsters many decades ago. As Marvel 2099 has a strong anti-corporate message (which confirms the Leftist bias and philosophies with Marvel Comics and creators during the 1990s), the boundary that separated good and evil got blurred away in this tale. While Halloween Jack believes he is doing something good and significant by bringing down the Synge empire and changing Las Vegas, he does not realize he himself is evil and is executing a plan of one evil force replacing the current evil force. This should remind you about the Black Panthers, the Palestinian terrorists, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and other wicked forces of the world who see themselves as liberators and went to the extremes with violence and coercion.

Along the way, Meanstreak assists Halloween Jack without any hesitation which made him a pawn of evil. As such, Meanstreak’s character and moral standing got compromised a lot which makes his membership of the X-Men questionable.

Indeed, there is a lot of symbolism in the tales of Krystalin and Halloween Jack here and the undeniable thing is that John Francis Moore implemented a good amount of depth within.

Conclusion

A comic book panel featuring a dialogue between two characters. One character, a shadowy figure in a black suit, speaks to another character, a woman with long dark hair, wearing a yellow top and black shorts. A glowing green container is present in the background, indicating a sci-fi setting. — *Shakti, who has the ability to sense the presence of mutants, encounters the intruder.*

X-Men 2099 #18 (1995) is clearly an attempt to shake the foundation of the series itself. Las Vegas has always been a key location since the beginning, and the Synge empire was the original enemy of the futuristic X-Men. Even as the mentioned two tales resulted in the weird and the wild, the creators succeeded in ensuring a cohesive read.

Overall, X-Men 2099 #18 (1995) is recommended.

Venezuela’s Acting President Thanks Trump and Rubio for Oil Deal

September 2, 2026September 1, 2026carlocarrasco

The United States and Venezuela signed a major deal regarding oil and Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez is thankful to President Donald J. Trump and State Secretary Marco Rubio for it, according to a news report by Newsmax.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt of Newsmax’s report. Some parts in boldface…

Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodriguez thanked President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the oil agreement between the two countries.

The deal drew rave reviews from conservatives and criticism from Democrats.

“That is why we chose the path of diplomacy with the United States of America, to transform our differences into cooperation. And that cooperation into investment, production, well-being, and concrete results for Venezuelans,” Rodriguez said in a televised address Saturday.

“I thank President Donald Trump, Secretary Rubio, and his government for the efforts made by both their administration and ours, as well as the entire Venezuelan team that dedicated their time to reaching this agreement,” she said.

Rodriguez said the pact would run 25 years and target production of more than 1.5 million barrels a day.

She said Venezuela would receive about $19 a barrel, which could generate more than $209 billion for the state.

“It’s no use having our oil reserves underground just so they appear in a statistic or an accounting record and we can say we’re the country with the world’s largest reserves when we can’t convert them into development for Venezuela,” she said.

“Our reserves must be transformed into well-being, prosperity, and happiness for this country and enable us to restore our productive capacity so that we can establish ourselves as an energy and manufacturing powerhouse.“

Rodriguez added that the change would strengthen energy security in the Western Hemisphere and promote greater stability and balance in global energy markets.

Trump announced the agreement Friday, calling it “THE BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY!”

It covers 65 billion barrels of proven reserves across 17 fields, with the U.S. receiving 55% of output, including an ownership stake.

The White House has described 100-year development rights, a term Rodriguez did not repeat.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think the US-Venezuela oil deal will be beneficial for both nations? Do you think the deal will help America economically in the long run? What is your view of Venezuela since the dictator Nicolas Maduro was removed by America?

Law to Punish Japanese Flag Desecration Takes Effect

August 14, 2026August 13, 2026carlocarrasco

If you are caught desecrating the national flag there in Japan, you will eventually get arrested and get punished by means of imprisonment and penalty fees as a new law took effect, according to a news article by Jiji Press. About a month ago, the law to punish the desecration of Japan’s flag was enacted by the nation’s Parliament and was a legislative victory for the administration of Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae, their partner Japan Innovation Party and even some opposition members.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news article of Jiji Press. Some parts in boldface…

A law to criminalize acts of damaging Japan’s national flag came into effect Thursday, amid unresolved concerns about its impact on expressive activities following criticisms that the scope of punishable acts is unclear.

Under the Japanese law, those who publicly damage, remove or deface the national flag in a way that causes people to feel extremely uncomfortable or disgusted could face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 200,000 yen. Livestreams of such acts are subject to punishment, while archive broadcasts are not.

The law seeks to protect tangible objects used as a national flag. Creative works, such as anime and images produced with generative artificial intelligence, as well as flag-shaped decorations on children’s meals and flag-inspired patterns on clothes are excluded from the scope of the law.

The legislation stipulates that whether an act is punishable is determined through a comprehensive assessment of the objective circumstances, including the external form of the act and the surrounding situation, while giving consideration to the freedom of expression and belief.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Are you aware that previously Japan had laws protecting international flags but none for the Japanese flag? What comes to your mind when you see Islamists and Leftists who damage or even burn the Japanese flag publicly? If you are residing in Japan right now, would you be willing to report the acts of flag desecration to the local authorities immediately?

Japan’s Parliament Enacts National Flag Vandalism Bill

July 18, 2026July 17, 2026carlocarrasco

Japan’s Parliament enacted a bill that would criminalize acts of damaging the national flag, according to a news report by Kyodo News. This new development is the latest legislative victory for Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae whose administration, parliamentary partner and even a few opposition elements submitted it. Those who opposed the bill called it “divisive” and “unconstitutional”.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the report of Kyodo News. Some parts in boldface…

Japan’s parliament on Friday enacted a divisive law introducing criminal penalties for desecrating the national flag, achieving a key legislative goal of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in the current Diet session.

The ruling parties argued the law was needed because Japan already criminalized desecration of foreign flags but had no equivalent provision covering its own. Some opposition parties and legal experts criticized the measure, saying it may infringe on freedom of expression and could be unconstitutional.

The bill, jointly submitted by the ruling coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and Japan Innovation Party, along with the opposition Democratic Party for the People and Sanseito, cleared the House of Councillors.

Under the law, individuals who damage, remove or defile the national flag in a way that arouses “strong feelings of discomfort or disgust” in others could face up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 200,000 yen ($1,200).

The penalties mirror existing provisions in the Penal Code on desecration of foreign flags and follow an October agreement between the LDP and JIP identifying the legal discrepancy as one to be resolved.

Parliamentary debate centered on the law’s implications for constitutional rights and what constitutes a punishable act, with the opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan among its critics.

Under the law, whether an act is punishable will be determined based on the circumstances as a whole. LDP lawmakers cited as possible violations stomping on a flag, covering it with mud in a street or park, and soiling it with feces or urine.

Livestreaming the cutting up or burning of a Japanese flag in a private space is also punishable, although a provision making the subsequent sharing of such footage an offense was dropped during negotiations to secure the DPP and Sanseito’s support for the bill.

A supplementary provision calls for a review around three years after the law takes effect to determine whether additional measures are needed in light of developments such as the online dissemination of images of flag desecration.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think Japan’s parliament did the right move enacting the national flag vandalism proposal? Do you believe that desecrating your nation’s flag should be penalized? What is your opinion about the Islamists and Leftists – both foreigners and citizens – in America and Europe who burned national flags so publicly and shamelessly? Did you notice social media posts that captured images of Leftists and woke nuts in Japan who desecrated the Japanese flag?

You may answer in the comments below. If you prefer to answer privately, you may do so by sending me a direct message online.

Security Alert Issued By US Embassy After Two Americans Got Killed In Philippine Province

May 2, 2026May 1, 2026carlocarrasco

In response to the killings of two Americans during a clash between Filipino soldiers and a terrorist group in the province of Negros Occidental, the United States Embassy in the Philippines (Manila) issued a security alert for its citizens and advised them to follow local laws to avoid situations with heightened security risk, according to a news report by GMA News.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the news report of GMA News. Some parts in boldface…

The United States Embassy in Manila on Friday issued a security alert for its citizens in the Philippines following the deaths of two Americans in a reported clash in Toboso, Negros Occidental.

In the security alert, the US embassy flagged as “areas of heightened concern” the rural and mountainous parts of Leyte, Mindoro, Negros, and Samar.

“We advise Americans in the Philippines and around the world to abide by local laws and to avoid situations with elevated security risk,” the embassy said.

Two US citizens were among those 19 killed in the operation of the Philippine Army against alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members in Barangay Salamanca on April 19.

The embassy informed its citizens that the NPA is designated a foreign terrorist organization by the US and Philippine governments.

“Anyone in proximity of NPA elements is at grave risk of arrest, injury, or death. Foreign terrorist organizations actively recruit Americans to participate directly in terrorist activities and/or provide financial support,” it said.

The US embassy urged Americans in the Philippines and worldwide to follow local laws and avoid situations with heightened security risks.

US citizens are also advised not to affiliate with insurgent or terrorist groups and to immediately leave areas where armed individuals not linked to police or military forces are present. It also cautioned that some non-governmental organizations may have ties to armed groups.

Americans planning humanitarian work were encouraged to coordinate with organizations registered with the Philippines National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency and local government units to ensure safety and proper documentation.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think Leftist and terrorist groups in the Philippines are still attracting American citizens to come into the country to get involved with them? Do you consider the Philippines a hot spot of Islamo-Leftists, woke forces and terrorists?

You may answer in the comments below. If you prefer to answer privately, you may do so by sending me a direct message online.

What to watch on YouTube right now – Part 117

January 7, 2026January 8, 2026carlocarrasco

Welcome back my readers, YouTube viewers and all others who followed this series of articles focused on YouTube videos worth watching. Have you been searching for something fun or interesting to watch on YouTube? Do you feel bored right now and you crave for something to see on the world’s most popular online video destination?

I recommend you check out the following videos I found.

#1 Supergirl 1984 Revisited – As some of you might know by now, there is a new standalone Supergirl movie from James Gunn’s DCU coming out this year. The first trailer attracted many millions of views on YouTube and yet people are divided over it as they noticed many elements of James Gunn’s cinematic style (note: Gunn is NOT the director of the upcoming movie) in it. Some long-time Supergirl fans and comic readers don’t like the modern portrayal of the character since she appeared in James Gunn’s Superman. Times like these, it is nice to revisit the 1984 Supergirl movie that starred Helen Slater. Watch the retrospective video below.

#2 The Katsu Phenomenon – When was the last time you had a fried pork cutlet for a meal? In Japanese cuisine, katsu is a popular dish of crispy, deep fried cutlets typically made with pork (tonkatsu) or chicken (chicken katsu) served with rice, cabbage and a tangy sauce. Tonkatsu itself is very common in Japan and Japanese restaurants here in my native Philippines offer it to customers. When it comes to pork-related meals I ate in my life, the tonkatsu is a standout meal. Katsu itself gained popularity around the world and it has become a food phenomenon influencing how deep fried cutlets are prepared and served to customers in different forms. Watch and learn from the Nippon TV feature video below.

#3 Ulysses 31 Revisited – Have you ever seen the early 1980s Japanese-French anime series Ulysses 31? I saw some episodes of it on local TV here in the Philippines in the early 1990s and it was a very unique type of anime with science fiction concepts and spectacle. Anyone who is familiar with The Odyssey will be able to related with it. Apart from being a joint production between Japanese and French entities, Ulysses 31 was ahead of its time and it never made an impact with American viewers not because of its quality but because of a costly mistake with the music and wrongful distribution in America. To learn more about Ulysses 31, watch the retrospective videos below.

#4 Rhetorical Thrill Replays The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers – Did you ever watch The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in the cinema and somehow never replayed it? If you did, how much of the 2002 film do you still remember? YouTuber Rhetorical Thrill confirmed she saw it in the cinema once and has not seen the film in a very long time. That said, watch her reaction video below.

#5 American Woman Who Was Trapped In Iran – Iran is in the news lately. Many Iranians are protesting on the streets and they are strong defying the Islamic terrorist regime. Iran turned evil and twisted since 1979 and their loss to Israel during the 12-Day War of 2025 left their regime crippled. Speaking of Iran, have you learned about the true story of an American woman who was trapped in Iran (because of her abusive Iranian husband’s deception) and could not leave the country without her daughter? The true story that led to the production of the 1991 movie Not Without My Daughter (starring Sally Field) is revealed in detail in the video below. I encourage you to watch it.

#6 Ashleigh Burton Reacts To Avengers Movies – There was a time when Marvel Studios released great superhero movies and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) had really entertaining flicks released from 2008 to 2019. After the release of Avengers: Endgame, the MCU went downhill as Marvel Studios and Disney proceeded with a very woke direction which turned away a lot of the fans who enjoyed the superhero movies of 2008-2019. That being said, now is a good time to look back at The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame through the reaction videos of Ashleigh Burton posted below. These are from the days of glory of the MCU.

#7 You, Me and The Movies React To Rocky III – Starring and directed by Sylvester Stallone, Rocky III was a crucial turning point of its film franchise. The first two movies were dramas with boxing matches as the payoffs and conclusion. In Rocky III, the tone shifted more towards action with a strong focus on changing Rocky himself as he faces his toughest opponent yet. YouTuber You, Me and the Movies posted its reaction video of the 1982 movie and you can see for yourselves how it impacts them.

#8 Wild Arms Retrospective – In 1997, I played Wild Arms on the PlayStation. It was Japanese role-playing game (JRPG) developed by Media.Vision and published by Sony which turned out to be fun and adventurous while maintaining strong focus on three main characters (note: they are the only characters you get to play). Two years later, I played Wild Arms 2 but never managed to finish it. The Wild Arms game franchise is turning thirty this year although it has been many years since the last game was released. To discover more about the PlayStation-exclusive JRPG series, watch the retrospective video below.

#9 Trump In 2025 – A lot has happened since Donald Trump returned as President of the United States on January 20, 2025. Apart from implementing changes to reshape America in ways that the Democrats and the Satanic Left do not like, Trump made his nation’s presence felt strongly in the international community. Not only did Trump’s tariffs compel nations to negotiate, America helped Israel with the 12-Day War by dropping massive bunker-busting bombs on Iran’s nuclear sites. This was followed by Trump’s military operations against Islamic terrorists and narco-terrorists. To find out more, watch and learn from the in-depth video below.

What to watch on YouTube right now – Part 115

December 22, 2025December 16, 2025carlocarrasco

I recommend you check out the following videos I found.

#1 Terminator 2 Arcade Game Revisited – As a teenager, I was a huge fan of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In 1992, the official arcade game of Terminator 2 arrived here in the Philippines and there was this time I played it in a Makati arcade (with one other player on the other gun), spent a lot of money on tokens for it and played the game extensively. As the game was very hard and overly chaotic, us players were unable to finish it. Recently, I saw this analytical, retrospective video about the Terminator 2 arcade game on YouTube by Mass Replay. It was a very engaging video to watch as it examines the game very closely, explains why it is so challenging to play and how much would it cost gamers today to finish it. Watch the video below and pay attention to the details.

#2 Problems With Windows 11 – Are you using Windows 11 on your personal computer? The way the Microsoft operating system is right now with artificial intelligence (AI) integrated, it has attracted a lot of user complaints over its reliability, lack of efficiency, features, forced updates and being not so user-friendly. The complaints and criticism over Windows 11 are only getting louder as of this writing and you can find out exactly why by watching the ColdFusion video below.

#3 Japan’s Ekiben – You might be familiar with the packed meal in Japan called bento. The Ekiben is a specific type of bento which is normally sold at train stations and those who bought it enjoy their meals while traveling. Ekiben comes with different types of food, ingredients and flavors, and it also highlights the local cuisine of the station or region it was sold in. To learn more about it, watch the Nippon TV video below.

#4 Sega’s Best Games On Xbox 360 – Over twenty years have passed since Microsoft first launched the Xbox 360 game console in America which eventually became the most popular gaming console in Xbox gaming history as well as having the best online gaming network of the 7^th console generation. As with the original Xbox console, Sega released several games on Xbox 360 (a mix of remastered games and brand new ones) via retail and through the Xbox network online (AKA Xbox LIVE). Recently Sega Lord X posted a video highlighting the best of what Sega released on the console, and it is fun to watch!

#5 Street Fighter 1994 Movie Revisited – In late 1994, the live-action movie Street Fighter was released in cinemas and there was buzz about it among Street Fighter II groups of fans of the time. Not only did the filmmakers have Jean-Claude Van Damme as its main attraction, they had to make up a functional story and cram a lot of characters into it. The film event had Australia’s icon Kylie Minogue as Cammy. To this day, some moviegoers (including gamers and fans of the Street Fighter franchise) enjoyed Street Fighter while there were others who found it very flawed. If you want to discover Street Fighter (1994) but are not willing to spend precious time and money on it, watch the videos below.

#6 Ashleigh Burton Reacts To National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – When it comes to movies set during the Christmas season, do you enjoy watching comedies? Way back in December of 1989, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – starring Chevy Chase – was released to mixed reviews but managed to achieve commercial success and movie buffs today consider it a classic of the Christmas season. How much of an impact the movie can have on first-timers can be seen in Ashleigh Burton’s reaction video below.

What to watch on YouTube right now – Part 114

December 15, 2025December 16, 2025carlocarrasco

I recommend you check out the following videos I found.

#1 Demolition Man Revisited – Way back in 1993, I completely missed out on Demolition Man in the local cinemas. The first time I saw it was on a rented laserdisc in 1995 and the film (starring Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes) turned out to be entertaining in a unique way. By today’s standards, Demolition Man is considered by many as a film ahead of its time as it accidentally predicted self-driving cars, video conferencing, heavy dependence on computers for solutions and more. As such, it is not surprising that a lot of retrospective and reaction videos of Demolition Man have filled YouTube. Posted below are the more entertaining videos to watch about the 1993 movie.

#2 Soy Milk Becomes More Popular In Japan – Soy milk is a dairy-free, plant-based drink made from water and ground soybeans. In recent times, soy milk has gotten tremendously more popular in Japan. Not only is it being consumed by the Japanese in its beverage form, soy milk also made its way into food items and snacks. There is a lot to learn about soy milk’s popularity in Japan in the video below.

#3 Resident Evil Illustrated Tales – Believe it or not, there was a time when comic books and illustrated tales about the Resident Evil games were published from the late 1990s to the early 2000s. Back then, WildStorm (WildCATs, StormWatch, Wetworks) was licensed to make comic adaptations of Resident Evil starting with the Resident Evil: The Official Comic Magazine (published through Image Comics, 1998-1999) which featured varied short stories that expanded the lore but not necessarily counted as canon with the games. YouTube ScorePN posted a video showcasing the Resident Evil illustrated tales so you don’t have to go to all the trouble of finding the comic books and magazines. Watch and enjoy the video below.

#4 Zaxxon Revisited – In the early 1980s, Sega made a huge splash in the arcades and game consoles with Zaxxon which is now considered a classic by many gamers. I only played it on the personal computer back in the 1980s. While my enjoyment of the game was very limited because of the not-so-friendly keyboard controls, I found Zaxxon an intriguing experience due to its isometric visual design and the illusion of 3D space that came with it. Sometimes I wished that Zaxxon would get remastered for the current console generation. That said, it’s now a good time to look back at the game in the two retrospective videos below.

#5 Ashleigh Burton Reacts To Lethal Weapon – Among all the Lethal Weapon movies released by Hollywood, the first film from 1987 is still the best in my view. Apart from having a strong script, the directing by Richard Donner got fine performances from Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, and the spectacle was executed with a lot of power while never feeling outlandish. That said, it is fun to replay the movie from time to time. To see how it impacts YouTuber Ashleigh Burton, watch her reaction video below.

Trump Administration Weighs Hitting UNRWA With Terrorism Sanctions

December 12, 2025December 11, 2025carlocarrasco

I want to make things very clear here…the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNWA) is a very twisted agency of the United Nations (UN) working in close partnership with Palestinian terrorists. It pretends to be providing relief and human development of Palestinian refugees when, in fact, it empowers Islamic terrorists. The wickedness of UNRWA is so clear and obvious, it is not surprising that officials of the Trump administration are already discussing hitting the agency with terrorism-related sanctions, according to a Newsmax news report.

Before examining the Newsmax report, you can learn first many details about UNRWA by watching the YouTube videos posted below. Pay close attention to the details.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report of Newsmax. Some parts in boldface…

Trump administration officials have held advanced discussions on hitting U.N. Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA with terrorism-related sanctions, said two sources with direct knowledge of the matter, prompting serious legal and humanitarian concerns inside the State Department.

The United Nations agency operates in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, providing aid, schooling, healthcare, social services and shelter to millions of Palestinians.

Top U.N. officials and the U.N. Security Council have described UNRWA as the backbone of the aid response in Gaza, where the two-year war between Israel and Palestinian terrorist group Hamas unleashed a humanitarian catastrophe.

The Trump administration, however, has accused the agency of links with Hamas, allegations UNRWA has vigorously disputed.

Washington was long UNRWA’s biggest donor, but halted funding in January 2024 after Israel accused about a dozen UNRWA staff of taking part in the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack that triggered the war in Gaza. Hamas killed more than 1,200 people and kidnapped another 251 people to Gaza.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio then accused the agency in October this year of becoming “a subsidiary of Hamas,” which the U.S. designated as a terrorist organization in 1997.

It was not immediately clear if current U.S. discussions were focused on sanctioning the entire agency – or just specific UNRWA officials or parts of its operation, and U.S. officials do not appear to have settled on the precise type of sanctions they would deploy against UNRWA.

The possibilities that State Department officials have discussed include declaring UNRWA a “foreign terrorist organization,” or FTO, the sources said, though it is not clear if that option – which would severely isolate UNRWA financially – is still a serious consideration.

Any blanket move against the entire organization could throw refugee relief efforts into disarray and cripple UNRWA, which is already facing a funding crisis.

Sanctioning UNRWA on terrorism-related grounds would be striking and unusual, as the United States is a member and the host country of the United Nations, which created the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in 1949.

William Deere, director of the UNRWA office in Washington, said the agency would be “disappointed” if U.S. officials were in fact discussing an FTO designation. He said such a move would be “both unprecedented and unwarranted.”

“Since January 2024, four independent entities have investigated UNRWA’s neutrality including the U.S. National Intelligence Council. While occurring at different times and from different perspectives, they have all come to the same conclusion: UNRWA is an indispensable, neutral, humanitarian actor,” Deere said.

In response to a request for comment, a State Department official called UNRWA a “corrupt organization with a proven track record of aiding and abetting terrorists.”

“Everything is on the table,” the official said. “No final decisions have yet been made.”

The White House did not respond to requests for comment.

The State Department and other departments have various sanctioning options at their disposal, which generally allow for asset freezes and travel bans targeted at specific individuals and entities.

An FTO designation would be among the most severe tools available to Washington and such designations are generally reserved for groups who kill civilians, like branches of Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think now is the time for the United States under President Donald Trump’s leadership to make significant moves to dismantle UNRWA on terrorism charges? Do you think the United Nations is lying and getting desperate in protecting UNRWA? Should UNRWA’s presence in the United States be close down? Do you think the evidence proving UNRWA’s links with Palestinian terrorist group Hamas is strong enough to justify sanctioning them?
