DTI Defers Mandatory Trustmark Due To Backlash From Online Merchants

In response to backlash from online merchants, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officially deferred the mandatory Trademark, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Trustmark will be voluntary until December 31, 2025.

After facing backlash from online merchants, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will no longer mandate the E-Commerce Philippine Trustmark, instead making the requirement voluntary until the end of the year.

In a statement, the DTI said the move was announced by Trade Secretary Cristina Roque during a town hall meeting about the trustmark’s implementation on Wednesday, Oct. 15.

Roque said that hearing directly from stakeholders made the agency want to improve the trustmark to make it more “useful, fair, and helpful for both businesses and consumers.”

“After all, our shared goal is to make e-commerce in the Philippines safer and more trustworthy for everyone,” she said.

The secretary—and the DTI as a whole—has been on the receiving end of outrage among online merchants, who have been labeling the trustmark as an additional burden.

The DTI even disabled the comment feature on its Facebook page after being bombarded with criticism on every post, even those unrelated to the trustmark.

The trustmark, aligned with the Internet Transactions Act, serves as a digital badge to ensure that online platforms and merchants are compliant with fair e-commerce practices. It is designed to help consumers identify legitimate businesses, protecting them against unfair trade practices, scams, and other fraudulent activities.

Under the new policy, the DTI said that the trustmark will be voluntary until Dec. 31. So far, the DTI is still finalizing supplemental guidelines for this policy, including fees that depend on the size or type of business, among other details.

By early 2026, the department is expected to evaluate whether the trustmark registration will remain voluntary.

#1 Tour of Tokyo Game Show 2025 – When I was very young, I used to be obsessed with visiting the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) in direct connection with my love for playing video games and arcade games. The obsession is now gone now that I am much older and console gaming has changed drastically over the past thirty years. From time to time, I watch videos on YouTube that explored the TGS and found two videos of this year’s TGS that are amusing to watch. Watch the videos below.

#2 Pasta in Japan and more – Moving from steak, I found another video about pasta – spaghetti specifically – prepared by Japanese cooks in a local food joint (referred to as a pasta shop) to a lot of people who clearly enjoyed what they ate. You might learn something new about how to prepare a spaghetti for others. Watch the video below.

#3 Learn to Reject Radical Islam – Asmongold TV posted recently a video in which he reacted to another video that specifically focused on how a certain country rejected radical Islam. It is indeed a very sensitive matter but it still is significant because there are so many Islamists – both people from Muslim-majority nations and people in the West who declared themselves strong believers of Islam – worldwide and they are always destructive and extreme. There are these Westerner Islamists who arrogantly declared they want to destroy Western civilization and replace it entirely with Islam. Go watch Asmongold TV’s video now.

#4 Rocky V revisited – Way back in January 1991, I saw Rocky V inside the local cinema with my father and brother. Having enjoyed the first four Rocky movies a lot, we were excited to see Sylvester Stallone reprise his iconic role in the fifth movie even as we wondered where the story will go following Rocky’s victory over Ivan Drago. Ultimately, we, along with many others, left the cinema feeling disappointed with Rocky V’s story and direction. Even though the 1990 film – which had Tommy Morrison and Sage Stallone as new additions plus the short return of Burgess Meredith – was disliked by a lot of Rocky fans, Rocky V still went on to become a popular feature in many movie reaction videos as well as retro video reviews. Man Arrested In Parañaque City Over Large-Scale Illegal Recruitment

Recently in the city of Parañaque, local police officers armed with a warrant arrested a wanted person for large-scale illegal recruitment, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Police arrested a man wanted for large-scale illegal recruitment in Parañaque City on Oct. 7.

The suspect, identified as Jan, 37, of Barangay San Antonio, Parañaque City, was arrested at around 5:09 p.m. at City of Dreams, Barangay Tambo.

The suspect, ranked as the Top 6 most wanted person at the station level, was arrested by members of the Parañaque City Police Warrant and Subpoena Section during the conduct of “Oplan Galugad.”

Jan was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Ma. Christina De Pio Lim of Parañaque City Regional Trial Court, Branch 260, Parañaque City, with no bail recommended.

A Look Back at Uncanny X-Men #284 (1992)

Welcome back superhero enthusiasts, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts, Marvel Comics fans and comic book collectors! Today we go back to the early 1990s to explore one of the many tales of the Marvel shared universe through the Uncanny X-Men series.

As of this writing, I really enjoyed reading the tales about the Gold Team of the X-Men under the co-writing of Whilce Portacio and John Byrne (click here, here and here). Following Bishop’s debut in issue #282, issue #283 featured his intense first-ever encounter with the X-Men while concluding the mutants mission (retrieving Jean Grey).

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Uncanny X-Men #284, published in 1992 by Marvel Comics with a story co-written by Whilce Portacio and by John Byrne (script). The art was done by Portacio with ink work by Art Thibert, Scott Williams and Karl Altstaetter.

Early story

The story begins at the Sakhali islands located off the coast of Siberian Russia and separated from Hokkaido of Japan. Previously a territory of China and explored by the Japanese, the island is now bustling with unusual activity as government officials and personnel of both Russia and Japan focus on a massive, sealed crater there. After meeting with the Russians and his fellow Japanese on location, the mutant Sunfire (Shiro Yoshida) proceeds to do a task with his immense power on the crater. The scientists quickly detect intense readings that went off the scale and it seems the void of the crater is responding to Sunfire’s assault. The void adapted its own frequencies with Sunfire’s and returns fire at him. The void then begins to change.

Elsewhere, the X-Men’s Gold Team are spending quality time together on board their supersonic blackbird heading home. Jean Grey, who previously occupied Emma Frost’s body temporarily, is back as herself and interacting with her teammates. With them is the unconscious body of Emma Frost (White Queen). Professor X and his mutants are uncertain as to what happened to Emma Frost’s mind and Bobby Drake (Iceman) speculates that she could have transferred her psyche into some unsuspecting victim (note: the party at the Hellfire Club’s headquarters in issue #281 was filled with hundreds of people).

Having heard Iceman’s opinion, Professor X decides to scan Emma Frost for the last dim echo of her personality. He tells Jean Grey to join him to scan Frost. Suddenly, the X-Men receive a distress call from the Sakhalin islands…

Quality

*After Sunfire got hit, a new batch of enemies emerged from the void.*

Following the intense and enduring events of issues #281 until #283, this comic book’s concept had Charles Xavier and the Gold Team get busy yet again due to an emergency at the Sakhalin islands. This opened the opportunity for Portacio and Byrne to introduce a new conflict at the said islands (which turns into a war zone), a new force of opposition for the X-Men and giving the Japanese mutant Sunfire a share of the spotlight in X-Men comics.

At the heart of the conflict is the crater and void at the mentioned islands which brought out a strong element of mystery slowly backed up with intriguing revelations. The new force of opposition are armored, human-like beings (whose heads, hair and masks easily remind me of the Predator design of Stan Winston in the movies) who are armed, dangerous and determined to achieve their goals no matter how difficult. What is intriguing is how the new beings (referred to as aliens) remain concerned and caring with each other even during the intense moments of their encounter with the X-Men.

The climax of the conflict here is a must-see. You just have to get a copy of this comic book to find out.

When it comes to the visuals, Portacio continues to deliver solid artworks which showcased intense scenes, scenic shots, dynamic superhero action and subtle moments of drama (especially when the X-Men are together and in comfort). As there were three guys who inked Portacio’s work, there is a noticeable inconsistency with the visuals as the story went on.

Conclusion

*Following their recent encounters with Bishop and Trevor Fitzroy, the X-Men still have the unconscious body of Emma Frost with them.*

While some readers might find the X-Men Gold Team’s involvement in the conflict rushed, Uncanny X-Men #284 (1992) remains an enjoyable read. As the situation is very new, the stakes are different here and for the most part, this comic book is a build-up of a new concept that just happened to be filled with a lot of action scenes. Portacio and Byrne delivered a fun-filled read with a good amount of intrigue and some surprises as they introduced a new force opposite the X-Men. And for the people are who are fond of Bishop, he and his companions are here but not with the X-Men.

Overall, Uncanny X-Men #284 (1992) is recommended.

Three Men Apprehended In Parañaque City Over Different Violations

Recently in the city of Parañaque, local police officers armed with warrants apprehended three suspects over different charges and one of them was arrested in one of the offices at City Hall, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Police arrested three men facing cases of frustrated murder and violation of the anti-fencing law in separate operations conducted by members of the Parañaque City Police Warrant and Subpoena Section on Oct. 6.

The suspects were identified as John John, 25, Toto, 23, and Sadam, 40. John John and Toto, both wanted for frustrated murder, were arrested at around 5:51 p.m. along Tramo I, Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City.

They were arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Leilanie Marie N. Dacanay-Grimares, of Parañaque City Regional Trial Court, Branch 294, with a recommended bail of P200,000 each.

On the same day, Sadam, who is facing violation of Presidential Decree 1612, otherwise known as the Anti-Fencing Law, was arrested at around 1:40 p.m. at the Parañaque Workers Affairs Office, Parañaque City Hall in Barangay San Antonio, Parañaque City.

The same judge issued the warrant of arrest against Sadam with a recommended bail of P120,000.

Two Chinese Nationals Arrested By Immigration Agents In Parañaque City

Recently in the city of Parañaque, agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested two Chinese nationals – one fugitive and the other with a hold departure order from a local court – according to a news report by GMA News.

A Chinese national wanted in his home country for allegedly duping his victims of over $900,000 through fraudulent investment schemes was recently arrested in Parañaque City, the Bureau of Immigration said on Monday.

The BI’s Fugitive Search Unit collared the 36-year-old suspect during an operation along Aseana Avenue in Barangay Tambo in the evening of Sept. 29. Aside from being a fugitive, the suspect was also found to be an overstaying alien.

The Chinese national is wanted by the Jiutai District Court in Chang Chun City, Jilin Province, China, for illegal absorption of public deposits.

The suspect allegedly conspired with other Chinese nationals in defrauding 6.54 RMB (renminbi) or around $918,603 from 42 investors between 2016 and 2019 by enticing them to put their money in fraudulent investment schemes.

During the same operation, the BI agents also encountered another Chinese national, a 53-year-old man with active derogatory records and is facing a hold departure order from a Parañaque City court.

Both foreigners were taken into custody following booking and documentation procedures and will be turned over to the BI’s Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

Philippines September 2025 Inflation Reaches 1.7%

The annual inflation rate of the Philippines reached 1.7% this past September led by higher food prices, according to a BusinessWorld news report. Take note that August inflation was at 1.5% and business sentiment in the Philippines has weakened.

Philippine annual inflation quickened for a second month, but it was still below the central bank’s 2% to 4% comfort range for the year, reinforcing expectations that a policy decision this week will be a close call between cutting rates and pausing.

The consumer price index rose 1.7% in September led by higher food prices, up from August’s 1.5%, the statistics agency said on Tuesday. It was below the 2.0% median forecast in a Reuters poll, and brought year-to-date average inflation to 1.7%.

The September rate, the fastest since March, comes just days before the central bank’s penultimate policy meeting of the year on Thursday.

“For the upcoming policy meeting, the Monetary Board will review newly available information and reassess the impact of prior monetary actions in light of evolving economic conditions and their implications for inflation and growth,” the Philippine central bank said in a statement.

At its August policy meeting, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) signalled another reduction was still possible this year before it concludes its easing cycle.

#1 Heavy Steaks in Japan – If you were able to visit Japan, did you crave for steak as a meal there? I found another video by the Japanese Food Noodles channel that showed another place to enjoy steak. Apart from seeing the food cooked and served, there is something new to learn from the individuals who managed the food joint. Watch and learn from the video below.

#2 Overtourism in Japan – In Japan, there is a massive number for foreign tourists who kept coming in and spending quality time there. The number of visitors from overseas is so great, it is resulting in a mix of positive and negative results. While certain local businesses are benefiting from foreign tourists, others are experiencing negative effects such as littering, worsening traffic congestion and even the violation of privacy. Let’s be clear: overtourism in Japan is undeniably real and there are some foreign tourists who could not behave themselves. Watch and learn from the Nippon TV video below.

#3 The Twilight Zone Movie Tragedy and Trial – Have you ever seen the 1983 film Twilight Zone: The Movie? I did but not inside the cinema. I previously blogged about retrospective videos about it. The movie was an ambitious revival of The Twilight Zone franchise and among the directors who worked on it (note: the film had short stories) were Steven Spielberg and John Landis. The movie was mired in strong controversy due to the tragedy that happened in Landis’ segment starring Vic Morrow who died along with two minors her carried with him. Not only did deaths and injuries happen, there were also some violations of established laws committed. To find out what happened and how the trial against the filmmakers ultimately turned out, watch the video below.

#4 Trump confronts the wicked United Nations and other evil stakeholders – Recently US President Donald Trump spoke to the members of the wicked United Nations in their building in New York City. He bravely confronted the many evil stakeholders there – the Islamo-Leftists, the socialists, the terrorist-loving members, the illegal immigration advocates and climate change zealots – and spoke the truth that they refused to realize. Watch and learn from the videos below.

#5 Top Secret! revisited – While the 1984 ZAZ comedy Top Secret! never came close to achieving the success and impact of 1980’s Airplane!, the movie still went on to entertain others who were born after it was released. Top Secret! is also the cinematic debut of the late Val Kilmer and it was an early showcase of his artistry and creativity. That being said, it is not surprising that there are lots of reaction videos of Top Secret! on YouTube and I found three entertaining videos for you to enjoy. Watch the videos below.

Philippines Trade Chief Points To Trump Tariffs As Country Braces For Dumping Of Products From Asian Neighbors

Here we go again with the perceived challenges related to the tariffs of Trump-led America. This time around the secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) pointed to the Trump tariffs which she said raised the risk of products from Asian neighbors getting dumped into the Philippines and potentially harm local industries, according to news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

For the newcomers reading this, the Trump administration had set a series of tariff rates for different nations in Asia. American tariff on Philippines-made products was set at 19% after the big meeting between US President Trump and Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

It is a known fact that many nations in Asia export their products to the United States but with the new tariffs in effect and the fact that the Philippines has a population of more than one hundred million people, the latter is anticipated to become the dumping ground of Asian products. This development is happening just as the economy of the Philippines will grow by less than 6% this year (click here, here and here). Recently, the US State Department published a report about pervasive corruption being a barrier to investment in the Philippines.

The recent increase in the United States’ tariff rates heightened the risk of Asian goods being dumped into the Philippine market, raising the need for more stringent measures to protect local industries, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque said Wednesday.

Roque, in an interview on the sidelines of the Federation of Philippine Industries Inc. Business Summit in Makati City, said they expect increased entry of steel, cement, and garments, among others.

She traced this to the attractiveness of the Philippines as a market, given the country’s large population of over 100 million. She said DTI will work closely with the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to ensure that only registered and properly taxed goods enter the country.

The DTI will also coordinate with local industries to prevent the continued spread of unregistered products in the market.

On Tuesday, personnel from DTI’s Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau seized around PHP2 million worth of substandard construction materials from 24 retailers in Central Luzon as it strengthened its drive against uncertified and unsafe products in the market.

“We need to protect the manufacturing industry of the Philippines. So us, being in government, and us making sure we protect the jobs of the people,” she said.

Roque also noted that although investments continue to pour in, the volume is not what they had expected, thus, the need to boost local industries.

“So, we try to help them resolve whatever issues they have. And then we also at least help them strengthen or level up their businesses,” she explained.

Better than Streaming: Minority Report 4K Blu-ray Set For Release This December

If you are looking for another Steven Spielberg film to be added to your 4K Blu-ray collection, be aware that the 2002 sci-fi film Minority Report (starring Tom Cruise) will be released on 4K Blu-ray format on December 9, 2025.

I am personally interested in the upcoming 4K Blu-ray release of Minority Report. I first saw that movie at the local cinema (note: it has officially closed down after years of neglect and deterioration) and I ended up being entertained and intrigued by its tone and Spielberg’s direction. Without spoiling the plot, I can say that the film is pretty cerebral and its scenes of spectacle were pay-offs to the build-ups.

Inspired by one of the sci-fi tales of the late Philip K. Dick, Minority Report is not exactly a film to watch for fun only as it will compel you to think about the conflicts between destiny and predictions, crime and law enforcement, and most notably the debate about arresting people who only thought about committing crime but did not execute it. Another good reason to watch it is the combined talents of Spielberg and Tom Cruise, and there is a lot of depth – including expository dialogue – to the script.

The scheduled December 2025 release of the 4K Blu-ray of Minority Report is quite timely. Today, a lot of moviegoers and some fans of Tom Cruise felt burned up with the Mission: Impossible film franchise. As for Spielberg, there has been nothing groundbreaking nor interesting about the films he directed over the past several years. Times like these, you’ll have to go back to the previous works of Spielberg and Cruise to enjoy something and Minority Report can fill that void.

If you are a 4K Blu-ray collector who has not yet seen Minority Report, better avoid watching any of the movie reaction videos or retro reviews or retrospectives of the film on YouTube.
