IDF Says There Won’t Be Major Fights Left In Lebanon Within A Few Days

Following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s declaration of direct talks with the Lebanese government for potential peace, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that within a few days, there won’t be major fights remaining in Lebanon although it might have to engage in limited fighting with the leftover Hezbollah terrorists in specific parts of the country, according to a news report by The Jerusalem Post.

The IDF on Monday said that once it completes its operation against Hezbollah in Bint Jbil in southern Lebanon in the coming days, there will not be any remaining major fights for it to undertake in the area.

In addition, the IDF added that there were still several areas where it would continue to clear Hezbollah weapons that it had found during its invasion of southern Lebanon. Such clearing operations could continue for a longer, somewhat indefinite period.

Further, the IDF might still engage in limited fighting with leftover Hezbollah forces in parts of southern Lebanon who have not withdrawn north of the Litani River with most of Hezbollah’s other forces.

IDF will have no remaining strategic targets in southern Lebanon – However, broadly speaking, the IDF will have no remaining strategic targets in southern Lebanon, and for several days since the Iran ceasefire on Tuesday-Wednesday of last week, the military has refrained from attacks in Beirut and other more strategic areas for Hezbollah.

Even ongoing air force attacks are more focused now on preventing real-time rocket crew threats to Israel’s home front than they are on eliminating Hezbollah’s deeper capabilities, which had been a goal of the IDF when the Israel-Hezbollah conflict was still at its height.

Regarding the Bint Jbil battle, which has already lasted several days, the IDF has already broken into the heart of the village.

Division 98 caught Hezbollah’s dozens or more fighters there by surprise, surrounding them from all sides before they could find a way to retreat and escape.

The Givati Brigade, the Paratroopers Brigade, and multiple commando units, including Maglan, have been involved in the battles in and around Bint Jbil.

Since Division 98 entered the Bint Jbil area, the IDF said that it has successfully eliminated rocket fire on Israel from the area.

Given that some of the heaviest fire from Lebanon had been from Bint Jbil, this has also reduced Hezbollah’s ability to fire on northern Israel in broader strategic terms.

That said, Hezbollah still has significant volumes of rockets that can strike northern Israel from deeper parts of Lebanon beyond the Litani River.

The IDF admitted that despite a huge invasion of southern Lebanon for three months in the fall of 2024, it had failed to fully clear Bint Jbil of weapons at the time.

This current invasion of Bint Jbil is, in part, a corrective measure for that oversight. In addition to Division 98, Divisions 162, 146, 91, and 36 are operating in southern Lebanon.

Collectively, the IDF has killed around 1,400 Hezbollah fighters, around 100 in the Bint Jbil area.

Strong Office Demand In The Philippines During 1st Quarter Of 2026

During the January-March period this year, demand in the office market of the Philippines has been strong as net absorption jumped 77% year-on-year, according to a news report by BusinessWorld.

THE PHILIPPINE office market started 2026 with stronger net demand, as net absorption rose 77% year on year to 133,000 square meters (sq.m.) in the first quarter (Q1), property consultancy firm Leechiu Property Consultants (LPC) said.

Gross demand, however, reached 234,000 sq.m., down 22% from the previous quarter, which LPC said was “consistent with typical first-quarter seasonal patterns.”

LPC Director of Commercial Leasing Mikko Barranda said market conditions remain stable but are becoming more complex.

“At this point, the market remains on track, but the path forward is becoming less straightforward,” he said during a briefing on Tuesday.

He added that “tenants are becoming more discerning and intentional in their real estate decisions, which must be matched by greater flexibility from the market.”

Traditional occupiers drove demand, accounting for 143,000 sq.m., or 61% of total take-up. Information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) firms contributed 79,000 sq.m., or 34%.

Expansion deals dominated both segments, with 112,000 sq.m. recorded for traditional tenants and 51,000 sq.m. for IT-BPM firms. Demand for managed facilities rose to 31,000 sq.m. as occupiers sought “ready-to-use spaces,” LPC said.

The increase in net demand was partly driven by a 62% year-on-year decline in vacated space to 101,000 sq.m. for the quarter.

LPC attributed the improvement mainly to the “absence of Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO)-related exits.”

The firm said occupiers have “largely completed right-sizing and are no longer giving up additional space.”

In Metro Manila, Makati City led office transactions with 76,800 sq.m., equivalent to 54% of its total demand in 2025. LPC said 63% of these transactions were located along Ayala Avenue, with 70% involving semi-fitted or fitted units.

“Makati remains attractive as occupiers take advantage of competitive rents and fitted spaces, while maintaining the prestige of an Ayala Avenue address,” the firm said.

Bonifacio Global City (BGC) maintained the lowest vacancy rate at 8%, compared with the Metro Manila average of 18%.

Outside Metro Manila, demand reached 34,000 sq.m., led by Cebu with 11,700 sq.m., followed by Iloilo with 11,000 sq.m. and Clark with 6,600 sq.m.

LPC said provincial demand remains concentrated in “established IT-BPM hubs and infrastructure-linked corridors.”

Total office stock reached 2.7 million sq.m. in Metro Manila and 723,000 sq.m. in the provinces.

Metro Manila is expected to add 807,000 sq.m. of new office supply through 2028, with Quezon City accounting for 240,000 sq.m.

Two individuals, including a newly identified big-time drug personality, were arrested in a buy-bust operation launched by the Parañaque City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) early Wednesday morning, April 8.

Parañaque City Police chief Col. Nicolas Piñon identified the suspects as Roy, 33, tagged as a high-value drug dealer, and Rafael, 54, classified as a street-level drug suspect.

They were apprehended at around 12:05 a.m. on Tulips Street in Tramo Uno, Parañaque City.

Police said the operation was carried out in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) after the suspects were placed under monitoring for alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.

An undercover operative was able to purchase suspected shabu from the suspects, which led to their immediate arrest.

Authorities recovered nine heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing approximately 210 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated value of ₱1,428,000.

Yee, Trupa rule National Age Group Duathlon Elite Sprint Category

FRANKLIN Yee and Mary Joy Trupa defended their respective titles in the elite sprint category of the National Age Group Duathlon held at Villar City in Las Piñas City yesterday.

The 23-year-old Yee, a native of Bogo City, Cebu dominated the race (5km run-20km bike-2.5km run) in 56:20, improving the 57:13 he registered last year.

John Patrick Ciron of Iriga City, Camarines Sur finished second in 56.43, also an improvement as he clocked 57:26 to secure the bronze medal last year. Maynard Pecson of Baguio City ranked third with a time of 58:56.

“I’m happy to win again,” said Yee, a 4th year business management student at the University of San Carlos.

Pecson, the second-best Filipino finisher at the Ironman 70.3 in Davao two weeks ago, did not expect to medal.

“There are many strong competitors, especially the young ones,” said the 27-year-old Pecson, a graduating tourism management student from St. Louis University.

In the women’s division, 23-year-old Trupa bagged the gold medal in 1:06:51.

“I’m glad that I won, the goal is to keep on improving,” said Trupa, who graduated from the Tarlac Agricultural University in Camiling with a agri-business degree last January.

“I can now focus on my training and competitions,” said Trupa, who together with Yee and Pecson, will join the T100 Singapore event on April 25-26.

Meanwhile, Hermogenes Branzuela (57:46) ranked first in the men’s junior elite division of the tournament supported by Villar City, Gatorade, Milo, C-Vitt and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Eric Hechanova (1:01:35) was second followed by Anxader Gomez (1:03:06).

Anisha Eunice Caluya (1:09:54), Candace Marie Socito (1:15:58) and Scottie Lee Awitan (1:20:20) were the podium finishers in the women’s junior elite division of the tournament, which is part of Triathlon Philippines’ grassroots and talent identification program.

Philippines Inflation Jumps To 4.1% In March 2026

With the sharp spikes on fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East, the inflation rate of the Philippines jumped to 4.1% for the month of March 2026, according to a news report by GMA Network.

Inflation rate sped up in March driven by the series of hikes in the retail prices of petroleum products due to the ongoing war in the Middle East, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday.

At a press briefing, National Statistician and PSA chief Claire Dennis Mapa said inflation — the rate of increase in the prices of goods and services — accelerated to 4.1% last month from 2.4% in February 2026 and 1.8% in March 2025.

This was the quickest inflation rate since the 4.4% in July 2024.

Year-to-date inflation rate stood at 2.8%, still within the government’s 2% to 4% ceiling.

Mapa said the main culprit from the higher inflation print was Transport index which saw an inflation rate of 9.9%, a reversal from 0.3% decline month-on-month, and a 54.8% share to the overall uptrend.

“Ang nag-ambag sa mas mataas na antas ng inflation ng Transport nitong Marso 2026 ay ang pagtaas ng presyo mula sa pagbaba ng presyo noong Pebrero 2026 ng mga gasolina at diesel,” he said.

(The main contributor to the higher Transport inflation in March 2026 was the increase in the prices of gasoline and diesel from a decline seen in February 2026.)

In particular, inflation for gasoline soared to 27.3% last month from -5.7% in February while diesel’s inflation rose to 59.5% from -1.3% a month prior.

The global oil price shock amid the continuing US-Israel versus Iran conflict has caused petroleum pump prices in the country to jack up to historic highs in March.

Also contributing to inflation acceleration in March was the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages index which climbed to 3% from 1.8% in February with an overall share of 26.9% to the uptrend, driven by cereals (such as rice) growing 3.7% from -1.3% in the prior month.

The inflation for Housing, Water, Gas and Other Fuels index likewise increased to 4.5% from 3.5% month-on-month with a share of 12.7% on the back of increments across electricity (9.2% from 6.7%), LPG (2.2% from -2.2%), and rentals (3.2% from 3%).

Inflation felt by the bottom 30% income households clocked in at 4.2% from 2.5% in February, bringing its first quarter average to 2.8%.

The inflation for the bottom 30% income class was brought about by the 3.9% growth in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages as well as Transport which posted a 7.2% from a contraction of 0.6% in the previous month.

Expansion Contract Worth Almost P600 Million Signed By Best Western Plus Hotel Subic

Best Western Plus Hotel Subic, the 4-star hotel located along Dewey Avenue, signed the expansion project contract worth almost P600 million with the proponent Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), according to the SBMA’s official announcement.

Best Western Plus Hotel Subic has confirmed plans to expand its operations after signing the contract that will allow the construction of a new building beside the current hotel.

The expansion project was signed between the proponent, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and developer Simon & Stanley International Trading and Development Co. Inc.

SBMA Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño and Best Western Plus Hotel Subic Chairman and CEO Jaime “Jack” Uy led the contract signing for the expansion project at the Corporate Boardroom of the Administration Building on March 31, 2026.

Architect Jayson Steffen Uy, Vice-president for Facility and Construction of Savers Group Holdings Inc. (SGHI), shared that the new building will consist of 120 additional hotel rooms, several commercial spaces, a three-floor parking area, restaurants, and parks.

SGHI is the exclusive developer for Best Western in the Philippines as the conglomerate that owns and manages Best Western Plus Hotel Subic.

Uy added that the new building will be an extension of Best Western with infused committed investment worth P587,967,200.00.

“With the current need for more spaces, function halls, and rooms, we decided to expand our operations in Subic,” Uy added.

The official stated that the design phase should be finished either this year or next year while the construction should be able to commence as early as the first quarter of 2027.

“As for employees, the company intends to source its manpower requirements locally,” he further said.

Meanwhile, SBMA Director Ted Del Rosario, Senior Deputy Administrator (SDA) Renato Lee III, SDA Ramon O. Agregado, and other agency officials were also present during the said contract signing ceremony.

Chairman Aliño welcomed the expansion project of Best Western Plus Hotel Subic, citing the growing need of hotels and establishments in Subic Bay Freeport. He added that aside from the company’s committed investment, the agency also welcomes the job opportunities from the expansion project.

Transgendered Suspect Arrested In Parañaque City For Victimizing Japanese National, Two Other Transgendered Suspects On The Loose

A manhunt has been launched to find the two transgendered suspects who escaped.

A supposed dating app meet-up turned into a violent incident after a Japanese national was allegedly duped, assaulted, and robbed by three transgender suspects inside a hotel room in Parañaque City on April 8.

Parañaque City Police chief Col. Nicolas Pinon identified the victim as Uri, 26, who was staying at Seaside Drive, Entertainment City, Barangay Tambo.

Police arrested one of the suspects, identified as Justine, while two others, known only as Riley and Kitty, managed to escape and are now the subject of a manhunt.

According to the victim, he met Riley through a dating app and agreed to meet at his hotel room. Riley later arrived with companions Justine and Kitty.

Once inside, the suspects allegedly stripped the victim and forced him to perform a sexual act. They then demanded P20,000 each, but the victim refused.

The situation escalated when the suspects allegedly assaulted him—kicking him and threatening him with a stun gun pointed at his face—forcing him to comply and agree to withdraw money.

Police said Justine accompanied the victim to an ATM, where Uri discreetly sought help by typing “Please help me” on his phone and showing it to a hotel receptionist.

The receptionist immediately alerted hotel security, and with the help of a Japanese interpreter, authorities were able to arrest Justine.

However, upon returning to his room, the victim discovered that the remaining suspects had fled and his belongings had been ransacked. Around 200,000 yuan and P9,000 in cash were reported missing.

Justine is now detained at the Parañaque police custodial facility and faces robbery charges.

Netanyahu Declares Direct Talks With Lebanon On Disarmament Of Hezbollah And Peace

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday announced that his cabinet would begin ceasefire and Hezbollah disarmament talks with Lebanon “as soon as possible,” in light of the current active warfront between the IDF and Hezbollah and the upcoming peace talks with Iran in Islamabad.

Netanyahu’s decision was motivated by “Lebanon’s repeated requests to open direct negotiations with Israel,” the prime minister said, adding that “negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.”

This announcement came just minutes before Hezbollah launched a barrage of rockets, triggering sirens in northern Israel.

In a video statement later on Thursday, Netanyahu reiterated these points, adding: “I have already brokered peace with Arab countries four times, and I intend to do it again.”

Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad said on Thursday that the group rejected direct negotiations with Israel and that the Lebanese government should demand a ceasefire as a precondition before any further steps are taken.

The negotiations, expected to begin on Tuesday, will be conducted between Israeli ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter and Lebanese ambassador to the United States Nada Hamadeh Moawad, Israeli sources told The Jerusalem Post.

Michel Issa, the US ambassador to Lebanon, is expected to mediate the talks, sources said.

Israeli sources stated that there is currently no ceasefire and that Israeli forces will remain on the ground in Lebanon in the immediate future to act against any threat from Hezbollah.

An hour before Netanyahu’s statement, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said he was pursuing a diplomatic track on this matter that was beginning to be seen “positively” by international actors, according to Reuters.

A senior Lebanese official also told Reuters that Lebanon had spent the last day pushing for a temporary ceasefire to allow for broader talks with Israel, describing the effort as a “separate track but the same model” as the US-Iran truce.

Cebu Taxi Driver Ordered By LTFRB To Surrender His License For Overcharging K-pop Star

For some time now, the Philippines has been underperforming in the race of attracting foreign tourists and its 2025 numbers have been disappointing. Recently, Philippine tourism suffered another blackeye as a taxi driver in Cebu overcharged a very prominent entertainer from South Korea – K-pop star Soobin – and already the details of the incident spread like wildfire on social media and in foreign news, according to a news article by VnExpress. The said taxi driver has been suspended for 30-days and was ordered by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to surrender his driver’s license.

Philippine authorities have taken action against a taxi driver who overcharged Soobin, a member of the K-pop group Tomorrow X Together, during a trip to Cebu.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, a video posted April 1 on the group’s official YouTube channel, titled “Soobin’s Super Fun and Super Tiring Vacation,” shows the singer and his friend navigating the incident. In the footage, Soobin and the friend arrive at the airport and attempt to take a taxi to their accommodation.

“I checked beforehand, it should be about 300 pesos (US$17),” Soobin says in the video, as quoted by Chosun Biz. “If they charge more than 300 pesos, let’s act angry once.”

However, a taxi driver subsequently approaches them and initially quotes the pair 500 pesos. After failing to negotiate, Soobin gets into the taxi, only for the driver to suddenly demand 1,000 pesos, claiming it was a “car with expensive gas.”

Soobin immediately confronts the driver, saying, “Did you hear that? I’m going to report you,” while documenting the attempted overcharge.

His friend later remarks, “Still, it’s better that we arrived safely. We’re so tired,” and Soobin ultimately pays the originally agreed 500 pesos.

Following the broadcast, the Philippines’ Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ordered the driver to surrender his license plate and driver’s license and imposed a 30-day suspension.

“The taxi driver excessively charged the fare and deliberately did not use the meter during the ride,” the board said, as quoted by the South China Morning Post. “This is a serious offense that tarnished our country’s honor in the international community.”

Philippine National Police Chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. also ordered a nationwide crackdown on taxi drivers accused of overcharging passengers. Authorities have since been deployed to monitor transportation hubs, particularly airports.

As the fragile two-week ceasefire between the United States and the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran hangs on, Israel struck the terrorists in Lebanon successfully eliminating the commander of the Lebanese Resistance Brigade as well as the secretary of the chief of terrorist group Hezbollah, according to a news report by The Jerusalem Post.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from The Jerusalem Post’s news report. Some parts in boldface…

The IDF said Thursday killed Maher Qassem Hamdan, the Commander of the Lebanese Resistance Brigades terrorist organization in the Chebaa area in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, in addition to seven others fleeing the area.

Hamdan was responsible for terrorist recruitment, weapons supply, and funding the Lebanese Resistance Brigades in Chebaa, according to the IDF, which added that the organization is funded by the Hezbollah terror organization and is connected to it directly.

The IDF also said Thursday that it killed Ali Yusuf Harshi, a close aide to Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, in a strike in Beirut on Wednesday, as part of a broader wave of attacks on Hezbollah infrastructure across Lebanon.

Harshi was Qassem’s personal secretary and nephew, who also served as a senior advisor and played a central role in managing and securing the Hezbollah leader’s office.

The IDF added that overnight strikes targeted two key crossings used by Hezbollah operatives to move between areas north and south of the Litani River and transfer weapons. Around 10 weapons storage sites, launchers, and command centers in southern Lebanon were struck as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the group’s military capabilities, the IDF said.

Separately, IDF troops from the 401st Brigade located a shaft leading to a subterranean site from which a terrorist emerged and was killed in close-quarters combat earlier this week. Inside, troops discovered a cache of weapons, including explosives, rockets, RPG launchers, grenades, and additional equipment, according to the military.

Moreover, the IDF said later Thursday that it carried out a strike in the Sidon area, killing Maher Qassem Hamdan, commander of the Lebanese Brigades in the Shebaa region, along with eight additional operatives who were attempting to flee the area.

Meanwhile, troops from the 215th Fire Brigade killed in recent days over 70 Hezbollah terrorists, including a cell preparing mortar fire against Israeli forces, the IDF said.

Earlier on Thursday, the IDF published footage of Paratroopers Brigade troops operating under the 98th Division during ground operations in southern Lebanon over the past week, targeting dozens of Hezbollah operatives and uncovering hidden weapons.

The military said troops moved into additional areas as part of efforts to establish operational control and reinforce Israel’s forward defensive line along the northern border. The operations were aimed at removing threats to Israeli civilians in the north while degrading Hezbollah’s infrastructure in the area, according to the military.

Troops located and seized a range of weapons, the IDF said, including firearms, magazines, and explosive devices that had been concealed, often within civilian areas, for use against IDF troops. The military added that the weapons caches were embedded within operational zones used by Hezbollah.

The Paratroopers Brigade has now established operational control over key sectors in southern Lebanon, according to the IDF, and continues to carry out strikes on what it described as terrorist infrastructure.

IDF activity in Lebanon aimed at reducing threats to frontline communities – The activity marks a continued expansion of Israeli ground maneuvers in Lebanon, as the military seeks to push Hezbollah forces further from the border and reduce immediate threats to northern communities.

The IDF released initial footage and images from the operations, showing troops conducting searches, locating weapons, and operating in built-up and rural terrain across southern Lebanon.
