Ramos and Avanzado top Super Sprint 13-15 contests of 2024 NTT Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT), age-group winners declared

Youth triathletes Euan Arrow Ramos and Eleora Avanzado emerged victorious in the Super Sprint-13-15 contests during the 2^nd day of action of the 2024 NTT AST Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone yesterday, according to Triathlon Philippines. The day also saw many age-group triathlon contests as well.

Euan Arrow Ramos and Eleora Avanzado came up with impressive performances to reign supreme in the Super Sprint 13-15 category in the 2024 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) here on Sunday.

Ramos of Baguio Benget Triathlon clocked 35 minutes and 34 seconds to claim victory in the men’s division in the race held at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Boardwalk.

Get Coach’D Army bets Peter Sancho Del Rosario (36:42) and Diego Jose Dimayuga (36:58) pocketed the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Avanzado, meanwhile, submitted the best time of 39:26 to capture the gold medal in the women’s division of the event presented by NTT and Asian Triathlon and organized by Triathlon Philippines in cooperation with SBMA.

Christy Ann Perez of TLTG-Go for Gold registered 40:00 to settle for the silver medal while Yvaine Osias secured the bronze medal in 41 minutes and 42 seconds.

The winners are aspiring to represent the country in the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games that will take place in Dakar, Senegal in 2026.

In the Sprint age group, Daniel Cadavos (1:08:25) ruled the men’s 16-19 over Jacob Tan and Peter Jaynario, who both finished the race in 1:09:00.

Podium winners in other categories were John Wayne Ybanez (1:06:33), Daniel Nazarro (1:07:37) and Carlos Santiago Arenas (1:08:40) in the men’s 20-29; Allan Racines (1:19:51), Samuel Ebuen Bada (1:25:03) and Benjamin Asiddao Jr. (1:44:00) in the men’s 30-39; Raffy Dolor (1:17:37), Bryan Lucas (1:19:04) and TJ Rabena (1:25:25) in the men’s 40-49; Dato Arroyo (1:31:46), Diosdado Soriano (1:38:37) and Joey Gatchalian (1:47:43) in the men’s 50-above.

The top three winners in the women’s division were Dhana Victoria Seda-Loboy (1:17:51), Aira Danara Gregorio (1:19:19) and Akyzxa Tangalin (1:25:29) in the 16-19; Anne Geleene De Vera (1:40:16), Manell Queen Aquino (2:29:58) and Paula Patrice (2:45:26) in the 20-29; Yasuko Sato (1:29:34), Eda Maningat (1:38:01) and Chiaki Otsuka (1:39:36) in the 30-39; Alfie Yu (1:45:03), Aubrey Ambata (2:22:16) and Lourdes Alejandro (2:22:47) in the 40-above.

Meanwhile, JB John Piodo (2:27:10) won the gold medal in Standard men’s 18-24 category over Ronald Mendez (2:28:01) and Loyd Allen Bergonio (2:28:38).

Other top three finishers were Julius Constantino (2:19:00), David Gordon (2:38:02) and Ron Eirrol Perez-Mazo (2:38:47) in the men’s 25-29; Deo Timbol (2:12:57), Jemuel Clemente (2:26:22) and Ashley Tuazon (2:40:10) in the men’s 30-34; Luigi Victor Robles (2:18:16), Tranayn Leo Brian Cayabyab (2:27:56) and Angelo Blanco (2:34:41) in the men’s 35-39; Jonathan Arellano (2:25:30), Marlon Cataquis (2:34:56) and Alexander Badajos (2:36:42) in the men’s 40-44; Ricarte Dayata (2:41:00), Marvin Baldemor (2:43:39) and Joffrey Ano (2:44:22) in the men’s 45-49; Philip Bucad (2:35:39), Junrox Roque (2:37:22) and Geron Guanlao (2:39:38) in the men’s 50-54; Emmanuel Mondero (2:31:55), Benjamin Tan (2:51:57) and Ronald Allan Ginez (2:56:52) in the men’s 55-59; and Eduardo Francisco (3:06:44), Thierry Mauranne (3:14:55) and Benjamin Villagracia (3:28:54) in the men’s 60- above.

Champions in the Sprint para-triathlon were Alex Silverio (PT4); Raul Angoluan (PT5); Jerome Nelmida and Al-Shyrel Amiladjid (PTVI); and Steve and Audrey Coleman (SPC).

In the Super Tri-Kids, Bruen Lukas Platz clocked 33:59 to win the boys 11-12 category, beating Joeffrey Fiam Arellano (34:52) and Kurt Evans Cruz (35:10).

Lauren Lee Tan (33:57) topped the girls division while teammate Aliya Nora Adre (34:15) placed third. Alaina Bouffaut (33:58) was second.

The top three finishers in the 9-10 category were Chris Donovan (25:30), Jon David Julian (25:54) and Thomas Mhigel Edangal (26:30) in the boys division, while in the girls division were Mitch Raine Salva (26:10), Lagnajita Bhakat (28:59) and Zoe Angel Da Silva (29:23).

Winners in the 7-8 category were Eli Julian Dela Cruz (21:10), Zavier Prequenza (22:03) and Aleph Ignacio Javier Avellanosa (23:07) in the boys division, while in the girls division were Ami Takei (20:55), Isabelle Georgina Delos Santos (23:54) and Stacey Ailia Aisha Escala (54:40).

Ruan Azriel Santos (11:52) and Jan Cristel Culanag (15:38) dominated in the 6-and-under category.

The SuBIT, which is the longest running Olympic distance triathlon in Asia, is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Asian Center for Insulation, Standard Insurance, Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corp. and Fitbar.

Australia and South Korea top elite contests of 2024 NTT Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT)

Australia’s Luke Bate and South Korea’s Jeong Hye Rim respectively won the Men’s Elite and Women’s Elite titles of the 2024 NTT AST Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone yesterday, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) sports news report.

Australian Luke Bate came up with an impressive performance to win the men’s elite title in the 2024 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) here on Saturday.

The 25-year-old from Perth submitted the best aggregate time of 54 minutes and 25 seconds in the race held over 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Boardwalk.

Compatriot Christopher Deegan posted 54:32 for second place while Japan’s Amu Omuro (54:38) was third.

Australians Rory Thornhill (54:48) and Jack Chrome (55:00) came fourth and fifth, respectively, followed by Japanese Satoshi Iwamoto (55:13), Hokuto Obara, (55:28) and Kenshin Mori (55:34); Korean Kim Jusin (55:41); and Australian Samuel Mileham (55:47).

“I’ve been racing for eight years so I really wanted to win,” said the 6-foot-1 Bate, who resides in Wollongong City.

“It’s my first time in the Philippines, I’m glad I won,” said Bate, currently No. 8 in Australia. “I hope I can come back next year. It depends on my schedule.”

Cebuano Andrew Kim Remolino, who won two silvers in triathlon and one silver in duathlon at the South East Asian (SEA) Games, was the best finisher among the locals. He clocked 56:09 for 13th place, while province mate Matthew Justine Hermosa (56:38) was 16th.

Joshua Ramos of Baguio Benguet Triathlon (56:53) was 19th, and Filipino-Spanish Fernando Jose Casares, a two-time SEAG gold winner, was 23rd with a time of 57:44.

Meanwhile, South Korean Jeong Hye Rim registered 1:01:22 to secure the women’s title in the event presented by NTT and Asian Triathlon and organized by Triathlon Philippines in cooperation with SBMA.

Iceland’s Edda Hannesdottir (1:01:32) took the silver medal while Australia’s Chloe Bateup (1:01:47) settled for the bronze.

Indonesia’s Martina Ayu Pratiwi (1:02:11) was fourth followed by Japan’s Manami Hayashi (1:02:15), Filipino Raven Faith Alcoseba (1:02:20), Guam’s Manami Iijima (1:02:31), Japan’s Himeka Sato (1:02:38), and South Korea’s Kim Gyuri (1:03:19) and Kim Ji Yeon (1:03:50).

“It’s too hot, (but) except for the weather, I’m okay,” the 25-year-old Jeong said through an interpreter.

Jeong, who hails from Daejon City, was only hoping for a podium finish after placing 20th last year. She first joined in 2018.

“I did not expect to win. It’s been six years since I first joined the tournament, so I am very happy that I won the gold medal,” said Jeong, who pocketed the bronze medal in the junior division of the 2016 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico.

Jeong debuted at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games where she won the silver medal in the mixed relay. At the 2022 Hangzhou Asiad, she was seventh in the individual event.

In the junior elite category, the top three finishers in the men’s division were Dayshaun Karl Ramos (1:02:05), Juan Miguel Tayag (1:02:40), and Darell Johnson (1:03:22).

The winners in the women’s division were Naomi Felicity Aytin (1:18:42), Edellaine Mae Diggs (1:18:36), and Maria Celinda Raagas (1:19:05).

Muntinlupa City raises monthly allowance of Class A athletes

Recently in the progressive City of Muntinlupa, the City Government formally raise the monthly allowance of its athletes under Class A who represented the city in competitions locally and overseas, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The raise was done by means of legislation.

The Muntinlupa City government has increased the monthly allowance of its Class A athletes who represent the city in local and international competitions.

Ordinance 2024-164, passed by the Muntinlupa City Council, was signed by Mayor Ruffy Biazon on April 11.

Under the ordinance, a Class A athlete is someone who has shown excellence in sports and is representing Muntinlupa in regional, national, international and invitational competitions including the Olympics, Asian Games, SEA Games, world championships, Philippine National Games, national finals, Philippine Youth Games, and Palarong Pambansa.

For 2024, Class A athletes from the years 2022 to 2023 will receive a monthly allowance of P1,000 while additional athletes will start from P500 per month.

For 2025, Class A athletes of 2023 will get P1,500 per month; P2,000 per month in 2026; P2,500 per month in 2027; and P3,000 per month in 2028.

The allowance can be used by athletes to buy food and medicine, transportation, equipment for training, playing uniform and other expenses for their studies, the ordinance stated.

The criteria for the selection of Class A athletes are: should be a resident of Muntinlupa for at least one year during the time of his training or joining a competition; recommended by the coach; and those who represent Muntinlupa who win gold, silver and bronze medals in international, national, regional and invitational competitions certified by the Philippine Sports Commission, National Sports Association, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Education and International Sports Federation.

National triathlete Kim Mangrobang an awardee of the Women in Sports Awards, event scheduled for March 20, 2024

Elite triathlete and back-to-back Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) medalist Kim Mangrobang has officially been confirmed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as an awardee of the Women in Sports Awards which will happen on March 20, 2024 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

In a March 8, 2024 official letter addressed to Mangrobang, PSC Commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo wrote:

It is with immense pleasure and that we extend our warmest congratulations to You.

You have been distinguished as an awardee at the upcoming Women in Sports Awards, scheduled for 20 March 2024, at the prestigious Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

This distinguished event, the first of its kind in our nation, serves to recognize exemplary women athletes who have demonstrated outstanding prowess or given significant contributions into their respective fields in sports.

The Women in Sports Awards aim to highlight the extraordinary accomplishments of female athletes, offering them the recognition they truly deserve. This accolade not only celebrates their successes but also aims to inspire future generations of athletes to pursue excellence and foster a robust culture of sportsmanship and vitality within our community.

For the newcomers reading this, Kim Mangrobang (full name: Marion Kim Mangrobang) is one of the finest triathletes of the Philippines. Team Xbox should focus more on their fans and make more Xbox-exclusive games with the long-term in mind

In recent times, Team Xbox and their studios officially confirmed that the Xbox-original (read: previously Xbox-exclusive) games Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Grounded and Sea of Thieves are heading to consoles of Sony and Nintendo. This is the result of what was discussed during the podcast (note: “the four games”) that had top Xbox officials updating people about their business plan and current direction. In case you missed that, watch the podcast right below…

To make things clear for the newcomers reading this, Team Xbox itself has already been publishing games on non-Xbox platforms for several years now. I’m talking about established titles like Minecraft and, in very recent times, the many games of Bethesda. By adding the newly acquired Activision-Blizzard into the Xbox family of companies, you can see Team Xbox’s publishing side has grown even bigger and the business impact should be felt over the next few years.

That being said, I should state that Phil Spencer and his Xbox team leaders should NOT neglect Xbox fans even as the business is moving towards multi-platform publishing and the “console-less” future in the 2030s.

In relation to what Spencer said during the podcast, the single-player games his team heavily invested in such as Starfield, Forza Motorsport (2023), Forza Horizon 5, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are still exclusive on Xbox consoles plus Windows PC and Xbox Game Pass (the popular subscription service itself will not be made available on non-Xbox platforms anytime soon).

There are also more Xbox-exclusive titles that have yet to be released such as Towerborne, South of Midnight, Clockwork Revolution, The Outer Worlds 2, the Fable reboot plus the very delayed ones such as Perfect Dark and Everwild.

While it is true that those are a lot of Xbox-exclusive games that fans and other gamers (who are seeking fun and unique games to play that are NOT available on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles) can look forward to over the next few years, I still say that Team Xbox should invest more to make even more exclusive games and become more aggressive.

In the previous Xbox console generations, there were these exclusive games that had “Only on Xbox” placed on the front covers of their respective boxes. Check out the games below…

*Way back in 2002, this was the exclusive adventure and platform game to enjoy on the original Xbox console! It was flawed but still had fun.*

*If you are a long-time Xbox fan, were you able to buy this for your Xbox 360 console?*

*This exclusive game on Xbox 360 is a classic shooter to enjoy!*

And, yes, there was a time when Team Xbox invested a lot to make exclusive sports video games under their Xbox Sports Network (XSN) franchise. Even the Top Spin game series actually started on the original Xbox console under the XSN label.

*During the weeks leading to the launch of the original Xbox console in late 2001, I played NFL Fever 2002 on an Xbox kiosk. This was Microsoft’s exclusive NFL video game.*

*An exclusive racing game on the original Xbox that is rarely talked about. This game received many positive reviews at the time of its release.*

*The exclusive NBA basketball of Team Xbox from 2002.*

It is absolutely true that Top Spin started as an Xbox-exclusive tennis video game made to entertain gamers on the console while also serving as a suitable competitor against Sega’s Virtua Tennis and Nintendo’s Mario Tennis.

Indeed, “Only on Xbox” in the old days had a very strong meaning – something fun and unique (if not special) was prepared for gamers and the only platform to play was on the Xbox console!

Going to the present leadership of Team Xbox, they seriously need to refocus on the exclusive games and confirm their dedication to all Xbox fans as well as the gamers seeking something fun and special to play on Xbox consoles or on Windows PC. A lot of people spent so much money to buy an Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S or a new PC for their entertainment needs and having more exclusive games will add even more value into the ecosystem of Microsoft.

I really wish to see Phil Spencer and his team move aggressively to produce even more Xbox-exclusive games not just for this current console generation but also for the next generation and even further. Perhaps Team Xbox should explore making exclusive sports video games (note: challenging 2K and Visual Concepts’ dominance on NBA video games could do good for the gamers and the industry) or make games on genres they have been ignoring.

Whether Team Xbox utilizes its own game studios or make deals with independent studios through their Xbox Game Studios Publishing, making more exclusive games is crucial and when it is well executed, Xbox fans and other gamers will benefit. Seriously, the shift to releasing Xbox-original games to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles should not be the main goal because it clearly does NOT justify betraying Xbox fans around the world.

Retro Gaming Ads Blast – Part 4

Welcome back readers, fellow geeks and retro gaming fans!

In this edition of the Retro Gaming Ads Blast (RGAB) series, we will examine print ads from the 1990s that caught my attention and I will explain why they are worth look back at. In retrospect, the 1990s was a decade of serious changes in the world of electronic gaming as the industry saw the shift of graphics from 2D sprites and flat backgrounds to 3D polygons, the shift from cartridges to CDs for software distribution, and more.

For the newcomers reading this, Retro Gaming Ads Blast (RGAB) looks back at the many print ads of games (console, arcade, computer and handheld) that were published in comic books, magazines, flyers and newspapers long before smartphones, social media, the worldwide web and streaming became popular. To put things in perspective, people back in the 1980s and 1990s were more trusting of print media for game details and images.

With those details laid down, here is the newest batch of retro gaming print ads for you to see and enjoy…

1. Castlevania: Bloodlines print ad

*Creepy looking but not horrific. The simplistic approach turned out to be effective on making Sega Genesis gamers excited for this Castlevania release.*

During the early stage of the so-called 16-bit console wars, Konami’s Castelvania series made the huge next-generation leap with Super Castlevania IV on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) which gave gamers loads of fun challenges along with technological improvements that added to the gameplay. Being a prolific multiplatform game maker, Konami knew it could not abandon its fans who own the 16-bit console of Sega and this led them to making a unique Castlevania experience with the Sega Genesis in mind – Castlevania: Bloodlines.

The above print ad of Castlevania: Bloodlines was very eye-catching as it showed a photographic presentation of the grave of the Belmont family (note: Simon Belmont is arguably the most known hero of the series) backed with a detailed text description as well as screenshots that showed exactly what Castlevania fans expected with gameplay and presentation. While the visual style of the ad had a subtle approach to horror, it succeeded in informing the public that another fun-filled Castlevania experience was coming. The game went on to be a hit among gamers and critics.

2. The Granstream Saga print ad

*THQ really tried hard to sell The Granstream Saga in North America at a time when a lot more Japanese RPGs started coming into the market.*

Back in the late 1990s, there was a slew of Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) that got released on the PlayStation console in North America arguably because of the massive sales success of Final Fantasy VII in 1997. In 1998, THQ (note: then a newcomer in video gaming) made the daring move to release The Granstream Saga in North America and it was part of the company’s plan of releasing more RPGs. With regards to the 1998 print ad, THQ marketing team wisely emphasized the fact that the game launched at #1 in Japan (published by Sony) although, strangely, the rest of the short descriptive text did not emphasize the fact that the game was one of the first fully polygonal RPGs ever released. The ad had one image of an animated cut scene while there were two gameplay images. When I first saw the print ad, I became interested with The Granstream Saga as I was fond of both RPGs and anime. I never got to play it due to a lack of time and money back then.

3. NBA Action 98 print ad

*Do you find this print ad funny or disturbing or both?*

The first time I saw Sega’s print ad of NBA Action 98 (a polygonal NBA basketball video game for the Sega Saturn), it caught my attention quickly mainly because of the concept of the imagery showing a really tall guy leaving the place after getting stretched to be tall (as emphasized by an adult operating a machine to stretch another kid’s body to get taller) as a kid from outside looks on. While it looked hilarious at first, the photographic imagery also had an unintentional dark tone as the adult operating the machine looked like he was torturing the kid. This print ad was really eye-catching in a rather disturbing fashion to me, so much so I did not have any interest left to check out the advertised game. The small size of the screenshots and the hard-to-read descriptive text did not help at all. In my view, this was a marketing misfire by Sega.

4. Flashback: The Quest for Identity print ad

*This was indeed an eye-catching print ad.*

Back in the 1990s, the CD-ROM was cutting edge technology in the world of computing and CDs (compact discs) helped game companies have their game content as well as multimedia files (example: full motion videos or animated scenes) released together conveniently. In the middle of the decade, a version of the game Flashback: The Quest for Identity (note: a game with computer-generated animation scenes previously released on PC) was released in cartridge format for the Sega Genesis as well as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). This was a big deal back in the days of the so-called 16-bit console war and the above print ad clearly emphasized it with the description “The First CD-ROM Game in a Cartridge!” The advertisers also assured consumers that the in-game 24 frames-per-second frame rate, the Hollywood-inspired high-quality visuals and related gameplay elements were intact for consoles. When I saw this particular ad, I became convinced to buy the game for my SNES (read my retro review by clicking here). To see how Flashback looks like on Sega Genesis, watch this.

5. Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean print ad

*To make things clear, Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean is not based on any anime property. It was the 3rd game of its series and the first and only one to be released in English.*

There is no denying the fact that Working Designs (closed since 2005) contributed a lot to console gaming by localizing and releasing several Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) in America at a time when such games were not yet popular. Apart from the Lunar RPGs and Dragon Force, the company brought Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean to the Sega Saturn console in America and they had a very eye-catching print ad promoting it. Like their ads for Lunar RPGs, the Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean print ad had a dominating anime-style artwork that highlighted the fantasy concept and characters, plus screenshots and in-game animated (note: not anime but detailed pixel artworks) sequences that were meant to attract RPG enthusiasts and gamers looking for the next-generation console gaming experiences. It should be noted that Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean was actually the 3^rd game of its franchise that started in Japan, and it was the first and only Albert Odyssey game to ever be released in English. To this day, Albert Odyssey: Legend of Eldean still has not been re-released nor remastered for other consoles and original Sega Saturn copies of the game are very expensive to acquire. That being said, this particular print ad is a lively reminder of Albert Odyssey’s only Western release.

6. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis print ad

*Capcom efficiently showed the new monster Nemesis, screenshots of the game and the return of Jill Valentine in this 1999 print ad.*

After the release of the best-selling and acclaimed Resident Evil 2, Capcom approved the production of several Resident Evil projects that include sequels and spin-offs. Along the way, Sony announced in 1999 that the PlayStation 2 console will come out in 2000 and this had an impact on Capcom’s RE projects as many of them were being developed for the aging PlayStation (PS1) console. Before the PS2 announcement, Capcom had a PS1 RE game project with its story set on a cruise ship. That project was abandoned following the PS2 announcement and because Capcom did not want to leave its fans to wait too long for another Resident Evil adventure on PS1, they reviewed their list of proposed spin-off games and went ahead making Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (Japanese title: Biohazard 3: Last Escape) for a late 1999 release while the PS1 console was still in good demand.

In the above 1999 print ad, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was shown with 3 screenshots assuring RE fans that the game has the tried-and-tested design of polygonal characters/monsters moving within pre-rendered environments, the action, the horror and adventure elements of the previous games. More notably, the new monster Nemesis had the biggest image and he rightfully became the main antagonist until the very end.

Lastly, the RE3 print ad featured the return of Jill Valentine (one of the protagonists of the first Resident Evil) and this time she had a clear sexualized look wearing a tube top and a mini-skirt. As I mentioned in my RE3 retro game review, I believe that the sexualized look of Jill was done by the game developers who were most likely influenced by the sexy appeal and iconography of the character Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series of games. Like Lara Croft, Jill is sexy and capable of fighting with guns and other weapons. Whatever the intention of Capcom and the development behind the game, the print ad (which even had wrongful details about the timing of the story) clearly worked on getting RE fans and gamers’ attention as Resident Evil 3: Nemesis sold more than 3 million copies on PS1.

Local swimmer who won medals overseas meets with Las Piñas City Mayor Aguilar at City Hall

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the City Government celebrated the achievement of a young local swimmer who brought home two bronze medals from a prestigious competition overseas and eventually met with Mayor Imelda Aguilar at City Hall, according to the social media post of the local authorities.

In a proud moment for Las Piñas, local swimmer James Allen Papango, who clinched bronze medals at the prestigious Asian Open Schools Invitational Aquatics Championships 2024 held in Bangkok, paid a courtesy visit to City Mayor Imelda Aguilar on Thursday, February 22.

James Allen Papango, a resident of Las Piñas and a beacon of youthful talent in sports, showcased exceptional prowess in the pool, bringing home bronze medals in both the 100m and 50m backstroke events against a competitive field of swimmers from across Asia. His achievements at the championships have not only placed him on the international swimming map but have also served as a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes in his hometown.

During the courtesy visit, Mayor Aguilar commended Papango for his hard work, dedication, and the honor he brought to Las Piñas.

#3 Score PN’s videos about comic book adaptations of Batman movies – When it comes to relevant and fun content related to the Resident Evil entertainment franchise, YouTube channel Score PN is a great source of videos to watch. That’s not to say the channel is limited only to Resident Evil stuff as it also has videos about other entertainment properties covering movies, comic books and video games. Among the many non-Resident Evil videos the channel has, I found its two videos about the comic book adaptations of the movies Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) fun and informative to watch. #4 Assorted retro gaming videos – There is no doubt that content about retro gaming is really popular not only with long-time gamers but also with much younger people who became fascinated with the way games from long ago looked and played. Cebu-based SEA Games medalists Remolino and Alcoseba win Sprint Elite titles of the 2024 National Age Group Triathlon Subic Bay Freeport race

The Cebu-based Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) medalists Andrew Kim Remolino and Raven Fatih Alcoseba outclassed their rivals to win the Sprint Elite titles during the Subic Bay Freeport Zone leg of the 2024 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series which was held at the Boardwalk area.

Remolino, who won a silver medal during the 2022 Vietnam SEA Games, won the 750 meter swim – 20 kilometer bike – 5 kilometer run contest in 56 minutes and 56 seconds followed by fellow Cebuano Matthew Justine Hermosa, (56:57) and Joshua Ramos of Baguio Benguet Triathlon (57:31).

“I had a good preparation for this tournament, so I am happy with my performance,” said the 23-year-old Remolino, who placed third behind Fil-Spanish Fernando Casares and Hermosa last year.

Despite his runner-up finish again, Hermosa managed to improve his 57:34 performance last year.

“I’m glad that I was able to set a personal best time. It’s a very close race and I know that Kim is my biggest challenge,” said the 5-foot-11 Hermosa, who together with Kira Ellis, Erika Nicole Burgos and Iñaki Lorbes, won the relay gold medal in aquathlon (500m swim and 2.5km run) at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

Hermosa, Dayshaun Ramos, Sam Corpuz and Kira Ellis also attended a 26-day training camp at the Rio Maior Sports Center in Portugal last year.

Alcoseba, a 2022 SEA Games medalist, clocked 1:03:55 to secure her third straight women’s title in the tournament organized by Triathlon Philippines headed by Ramon Marchan in cooperation with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA).

Erika Nicole Burgos submitted 1:05:39 to capture the silver medal while Kira Ellis took the bronze medal in 1:06:16.

”I tried to keep a positive attitude throughout the race. I’m happy to win again,” said the 21-year-old Alcoseba, a 3rd year civil engineering student at the De La Salle University.

Meanwhile, Dayshaun Ramos clocked 58 minutes and 44 seconds to pocket the gold medal in the men’s junior elite category. Darell Johnson Bada got the silver medal in 1:00:11 and Juan Miguel Tayag secured the bronze medal in 1:01:14.

Singaporean Janelle Susatra (1:07:17) won the women’s title over Erin Denise Burgos (1:16:33) and Adrian Ungos (1:19:53).

Ramos and Perez win Super Sprint titles of the 2024 National Age Group Triathlon Subic Bay Freeport race

This past Saturday, triathletes Euan Arrow Ramos and Christy Ann Perez won the Super Sprint category of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) tournament which was held at the Boardwalk in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Ramos from Baguio Benguet Triathlon Team finished the 500 meter swim – 10 kilometer bike – 2 kilometer run race in 33 minutes and 24 seconds in the boys’ 13-15 years old division. Peter Sancho Del Rosario (Getcoach’d Academy) finished 2^nd place in 35:19 followed by teammate Diego Jose Dimayuga (35:37).

Christy Ann Perez, a member of Go For Gold TLTG Cebu, registered the best time of 38:06 in the girls division, while teammate Yvaine Osias checked in third (39:00). Maria Zabelle Eugenio (Baguio Benguet Triathlon Team) ranked second (38:43).

Meanwhile, Hans Nathan Samputon (Ormoc Aquatic Edge) bagged the gold medal in the Super Kids boys 11-12 years old (400m swim, 8km bike and 2km run) category with a time of 34:28. Earl Pearson Jr. (Go For Gold TLTG Cebu) took the silver medal in 35.05 while Bricen Lukas Platz (Get Coach’D Academy clocked 38:26 to settle for the bronze medal.

In the girls division, the Top 3 finishers were Lauren Lee Tan of Ormoc Aquatic Edge (34:27), Henia Ethana Go of Gold TLTG Cebu (35:51) and Ava Victoria Banal of Baguio Benget Triathlon (38:48).

The Top 3 finishers in the boys division of the 9-10 years old (200m swim, 6km bike and 1km run) category, were Chris Donovan Lacuna (25:40), Matteo Carino (27:17) and Jon David Julian (27:19), while Pia Gito (28:13) got the gold and Juriel Brooke Julian (31:24) the silver in the girls division.

In the 7-8 years old (100m swim, 2km bike and 800m run), the winners in Ray Vincent Marchan (17:41) and Zavier Prequenza (21:35) in the boys division and Stacey Ailia Aisha (29:13) in the girls division.

Suchen Mooney (13:21) pocketed the gold and Dylan Shyam Bayarong (21:00) secured the silver medal in the boys 6 and under (50m swim, 1km bike and 400m run) category.
