Ciron and Trupa win duathlon titles in Vietnam

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! Yesterday in Vietnam, John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa won the duathlon (run-bike-run) titles for the Philippines during the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships.

Duathletes John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa emerged as champions in contrasting fashion in the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships in Tam Chuc Complex, Vietnam.

Ranked No. 75 in World Triathlon ranking and 11th placer in the February in the Asian Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain, Ciron covered 5km run, 30km bike and 5km grind in 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds (1:01:30).

Ciron finished 1 min and1 sec clear of heavy favorite Pam Tien San, the Hanoi and Cambodia Southeast Asian Games duathlon titleholder, who prevailed over Indonesian Parth Sachin Mirage in a photo finish.

Trupa, who in February earned a ticket for the World Games along top Filipino triathlete Kim Mangrobang and Franklin Yee, climbed the top of the podium on a technicality.

Finishing second unofficially (1:04;14), 41 sec behind Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Tuy Van, she was declared the gold medalist when Nguyen was disqualified on account of failure to serve her penalty for an infraction.

Sharing the victory stand with Trupa were a couple of Singaporeans—Louisa Marie Middleditch, runner-up (1:04:19), and Rachel Hew, bronze medalist (1:05:01).

Sam Corpuz who sees action in the championships that mimics the SEA Games where triathlon, aquathlon and duathlon are included in the program, along with Ciron and Tropa plus Coach Raymond Torio are supported by both Jeremy Go of Go for Philippines and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Dimayuga wins silver medal for Philippines in Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! This past weekend in Hong Kong, the youthful Diego Jose Dimayuga won for the Philippines a silver medal in the 13-15 category during the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025.

A surprise package in the youngest bet, Diego Jose Dimayuga, prevented PHI from medal shutout in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025 in Hong Kong yesterday.

Dimayuga, mentored by Doray Ellis, snatched the silver medal in the 13-15 years category, aggregating 35 minutes and 32 seconds on splits of 00:05:43 swim (T1/15 sec), 19 min bike (T2/1 min 27 sec) and 8 min 7 sec bike.

Going into the run after the 400-meter swim and 11-km bike, Dimayuga, the self-funded grandson of ex-University of the Philippines regent Francis Laurel, and eventual champion, hometown favorite Yik Hei Lau were neck-and neck.

Yik poured it on in the 2.5-Kilometer run that saw him breast the tape at 35:40, 52 seconds ahead of Dimayuga. Completing the podium finishers was another Hong Kongite, Tze Kiu Tam, who finished 11 seconds behind Dimayuga.

The other members of the PHI squad supported by Philippine Sports Commission seeing action in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships Hong Kong 2025 included: Raven Alcoseba, Sam Corpus, Erika Burgos, Kim Remolino, Mateo Hermosa, Dash and Josh Ramos.

Team manager is Ting Joson with Doray Ellis, Louann Ramos and Andoy Remolino as coaches.

#1 The next Xbox will include Steam and PlayStation? – The vibe of the next-generation of console gaming is only intensifying by the day. When it comes to Xbox itself, there is speculation that the next-generation Xbox will not only be a hybrid PC console but also include access to Steam games and even those of PlayStation. I know it sound crazy but if it is clear that Microsoft is doing its own approach on the next-generation Xbox in radically different way compared with PlayStation and Nintendo. #2 PatmanQC examines NBA Jam – Were you able to play basketball videos in the arcades way back in the 1990s? Back then, NBA Jam was a massive excess attracting so many players and generating lots of income for arcade operators. The game also sold a lot on many game consoles as well. NBA Jam is a 2-on-2 arcade-style basketball game with emphasis on fast-paced scoring without the hindrance of normal basketball rules. #3 Slope’s Game Room examines the Strike games franchise – Remember back long ago when Electronic Arts (EA) released a series of military themed shooter games on game consoles? I’m referring to the Strike series of games that include Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Urban Strike, Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike. Those games were released across two console generations in the 1990s and the series has not been revived until now. To look back at EA’s Strike games, watch the video by Slope’s Game Room.

#4 VKunia reacts to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice – I recently browsed through the many videos of YouTuber VKunia and took time to watch her reaction video of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film directed by Zack Snyder is significant not in a positive way but because of its very dark approach on storytelling and spectacle involving DC Comics’ icons Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The way it was presented, not even the combined talents of Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and others could spare the film from negative reception. I think by today’s standards, this is a superhero film that can only entertain a limited type of people. Still, I find VKunia’s reactions to it a must-watch.

#5 Woke garbage in comic books exposed and explained – As a geek, I really hate it when these modern day Leftists – Communists, socialists, Marxists, liberals, diversity zealots, inclusion zealots, LGBTQ activists and Islamo-Leftists – ruin movies and video games by emphasizing their radical agenda through them. The same has happened in comic books and it is clear that the Leftists working for the publishers made established superhero icons look terrible. These unfortunate developments will remind you that comic books are meant for escapism and not political agenda which comic book legends Jim Shooter and Stan Lee confirmed long ago. Watch and learn from the video of YouTuber Ranting for Vengeance right now.

#6 The free speech solution against DEI poison – In this John Stossel video I recently saw, the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) was discussed and it turns out there is a free speech solution against the woke virus. This is about the ongoing information war between the Satanic Left and the ones who believe in common sense and reality.

#7 Ashleigh Burton reacts to The Breakfast Club – Were you able to watch any movies written or directed by the late John Hughes? A lot of people considered Hughes’ works collectively defined the cinematic American teenagers of the 1980s. One of the more popular works of Hughes was The Breakfast Club and Ashleigh Burton’s reaction video is a must-see.

#1 Forza Motorsport (2005) revisited – The first time I ever played first-ever Forza Motorsport video game was on a rented original Xbox console in 2005. Right from the start, I was very impressed with how realistic yet accessible the game played even as it was designed by Turn 10 as a simulation. Years later, I played the succeeding Forza Motorsport games and became a fan of the series on Xbox consoles. It was delightful for me to watch the Forza Motorsport retrospective video by YouTuber Camp Xbox which you can view below.

#2 You, Me and the Movies react to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle movies of 1990 and 1991 – Here in the Philippines, I saw the films Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze in local cinemas in 1990 and 1991 respectively. Each viewing experience was in a fully packed cinema which was not surprising because the TMNT franchise – specifically the animated series on TV – was already very popular among Filipinos and there was excitement to see the live-action versions of the popular turtles, Splinter, Shredder and April O’Neil. That being said, you should see You, Me and the Movies’ reaction videos of the two films.

#3 Israeli Air Force flies over the funeral of Hezbollah’s late leader – Several months after the successful elimination of Hezbollah leader and terrorist Nasrallah, a funeral for him was held in Lebanon and there were officials from terrorist state Iran who attended. And then something happened…fighter jets of the Israeli Air Force flew over the funeral and literally took the thunder away. The terrorist group of Hezbollah got very humiliated. #4 In-depth look back at the “DCEU” movies – Remember the DC superhero movies of the so-called DCEU (DC Extended Universe)? This year, Warner Bros., DC and director James Gunn will release an all-new Superman movie and now is a good time to look back at the previous franchise of DC superhero movies released from 2013 to 2023, and I found a very comprehensive video from YouTuber FilmyHead for you to watch.

#5 PatmanQC examines Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters – I never got to play the late-1980s game Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters in the arcade nor any of its ports. Being curious, I took time out to watch PatmanQC’s video about the game. It turns out, the game itself is an inspired piece of work and it was made by Atari. I urge you to watch the video below.

#6 Popcorn in Bed reacts to Starship Troopers – When it was first released in 1997, a lot of movie critics and moviegoers did not fully understand the themes and meaning of Starship Troopers. While many viewed it as a big-budget, loud and action-packed sci-fi flick, there was a minority of people who realized director Paul Verhoeven’s (RoboCop, Total Recall) use of irony within the narrative. Months ago, Popcorn in Bed posted her reaction video and you should see how the film affects her.

#7 Ashleigh Burton reacts to The Thomas Crown Affair – Remember watching The Thomas Crown Affair in 1999? Some people perceived it as a clever remake of the 1968 original while there were others who found it to be Pierce Brosnan’s most notable non-James Bond role of the 1990s. Recently, Ashleigh Burton saw the film and you must watch her reaction video below.

2025 National Age Group Aquathlon and National Age Group Duathlon highlights at Vermosa Sports Hub

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! The highlights of the 2025 National Age Group Aquathlon and 2025 National Age Group Duathlon held this past weekend at the Vermosa Sports Hub are revealed below.

Alaina Bouffaut displayed her best form to dominate the girls Under-15 category in the National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon at the Ayala-Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite.

The 12-year-old Filipino-French finished the 400m swim-2.5km run aquathlon competition in 18 minutes and 17 seconds to beat Christy Ann Perez (18:35) and Naomi Rozeboom (18:45) last Saturday.

On Sunday, she claimed victory in duathlon (3km run-10km bike-1.5km run) with a time of 41:48, prevailing over Kaia Christiana Gica (42:32) and Naomi Rozeboom (42:44).

“I feel good,” said Bouffaut, whose mother is from Cagayan Valley.

“It’s nice to win, this is my first time competing in the U15 category,” added the Grade 7 student who dominated the 11-12 category for two years.

Bouffaut’s schoolmate, Johan Joey Marcelo won the gold medal in duathlon with a time of 35:30.

“I felt that I’m going to get a podium, but not the gold,” said the 14-year-old Marcelo, a member of Sante Barley Nextstep Tri Team.

“I was not feeling well since Wednesday, I just took a rest. I’m happy that I won,” added Marcelo, who bagged a silver medal in the Ironkids Subic and a bronze in Ironkids Duathlon in Davao last year.

Meanwhile, Ruan Azriel Santos and Jan Christel Culanag also pocketed two gold medals in the 6 and under category of the tournament which is part of Triathlon Philippines’ grassroots and talent identification program.

Santos (4:31) beat Ivo Gadiel Kanlas (4:49) in aquathlon (50m swim-200m run). He clocked 14:01 in duathlon (400m run-1km bike-200m run).

Culanag (4:49) beat Rafaela Tifany Marie Culala (12:12) in aquathlon and clocked 14:01 to win the gold medal in duathlon over Lucia Ysabel Sarmenta (20:02) in the girls division.

Other Super Tri Kids duathlon winners were Thomas Miguel Edangal and Naomi Dimayuga in the 11-12 category (2km-8km-1km); Enrique Jose Dela Rosa and Pia Gienne Meiko Gito in the 9-10 category (1km-6km-500m); and Zavier Caeden Prequenza and Stacey Ailia Aisha Escala in the 7-8 category (800m-2km-400m).

Other champions in aquathlon were Pele Matteo Latonio and Elise Salas in the 11-12 category (300m-1.5km); Jairus Achilles Bongotan and Athena Masadao in the 9-10 category (200m-1km); and Eli Julian Dela Cruz and Stacey Ailia Aisha Escala in the 7-8 category (100m-500m).

In the sprint elite category in duathlon (5km-20km-2.5km), Franklin Yee and Merry Joy Trupa ruled their respective divisions.

Yee won the gold medal in 57:13 over Irienold Reig Jr. (57:16) and Patrick Ciron (57:26) in the men’s division.

Trupa clocked 1:05:41 to beat Katrina Salazar (1:05:56) and Rachel Sarah Wei Ying (1:06:57) in the women’s division.

The National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon tournaments were supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Milo, Asian Centre for Insulation, Gatorade, Fitbar and RaceYa.

John Alexander Ramos and Erika Nicole Burgos won their respective Elite titles during the 2025 National Age Group Aquathlon event yesterday at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite, according to a sports news article published by the Philippine New Agency (PNA).

Joshua Alexander Ramos delivered a fine performance to claim victory in the Standard Men Elite of the National Age Group Aquathlon 2025 at the Ayala-Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite on Saturday.

The 23-year-old member of the Baguio Benguet Triathlon club clocked 31 minutes and 19 seconds in the 1km-swim and 5km-run competition.

“I joined this tournament to test my fitness and I’m glad I won,” said Ramos, a second-year marketing management student at the University of Baguio.

Last year, he was runner-up to Cebuano Kim Andrew Remolino in the race that only covered 500 meters (swim) and 2.5 km. (run).

Remolino and Matthew Hermosa did not join due to a Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) regional qualifying.

“Even if they are not here, I can say that I gave my best,” said Ramos, who won four medals in swimming – two golds (400m and 1500 freestyle), one silver (4x200m freestyle), and one bronze (4×100 freestyle) at the 2024 PRISAA National Games in Legazpi City, Albay.

Iñaki Emil Lorbes registered 31:28 to finish second despite nursing a right ankle injury he sustained two weeks ago in training. Irienold Reig Jr. (32:12) was third.

Meanwhile, Erika Nicole Burgos defended the women’s title, clocking 34 minutes and 17 seconds to prevail over Wan Ting of Singapore (35:01) and Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz (35:50).

“The course is difficult, it’s exhausting,” said Burgos of Tanauan, Batangas.

She will join the National Age Group Duathlon on Sunday.

“I’ll do my best to win (in the National),” said Burgos, who won the gold medal in the 2023 Asian Duathlon Championships at the New Clark City Sports Complex.

In the Junior Elite category, Joshua’s younger brother, Dayshaun Karl, topped the men’s division in 16:37. Darell Johnson Bada (16:40) ranked second followed by Peter Sancho Del Rosario (16:44).

Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy clocked 18:45 to win the women’s title over Maria Celinda Raagas (21:42).

Edison Badillo (PTS2), Raul Angoluan (PTS3), Alex Silverio (PTS4), and Joshua Nelmida with guide Bernard Matthew Cruz (PTVI) won their respective divisions in the para category of the event organized by the Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) headed by Tom Carrasco.

2025 National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon set to happen at Vermosa Sports Hub this weekend

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! The Vermosa Sports Hub will be hosting the National Age Group Aquathlon and the National Age Group Duathlon events this weekend in Cavite. Specifically, the aquathlon is on March 1 while the duathlon is on March 2. There will also be several significant athletes participating in the said events.

These events of Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) are supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc., Fitbar and RaceYa. Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub is the venue partner.

Recently, the news article of the National Age Group Aquathlon and National Age Group Duathlon was published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) with an emphasis on who will be competing this weekend. Posted below is the excerpt of the news release but be aware the word “championships” is inaccurate. Some parts in boldface.

All is set for the National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon Championships this weekend at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.

The aquathlon event is set on March 1 and the duathlon the next day.

Merry Joy Trupa and Marion Kim Mangrobang lead the title contenders in a duathlon in the tournament organized by the Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) headed by Tom Carrasco.

Trupa won the silver medal while Mangrobang settled for the bronze medal at the 2025 Asia Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain last Sunday.

Trupa finished the 5km run-30km bike-5km run in 1:29:16, behind Chinese Ziqing Lu (1:28:24). Mangrobang champion, clocked 1:33:14.

Mangrobang is a three-time champion in triathlon and back-to-back gold medalist in duathlon at the SEA Games.

She leads the women’s Elite, Under 23 and Junior squad which include Raven Faith Alcoseba, Kira Ellis, Erika Nicole Burgos, Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz and Katrina Salazar.

The men’s Elite and Under 23 team is composed of Filipino-Spanish Fernando Casares, Andrew Kim Remolino, Matthew Justine Hermosa, Joshua Alexander Ramos, Iñaki Emil Lorbes, Juan Miguel Tayag and Juan Francisco Baniqued, while the Junior Elite roster has Dayshaun Karl Ramos, Darell Johnson Bada, Euan Arrow Ramos and Peter Sancho del Rosario.

SEA Games double-gold medalist John Leerams Chicano banners the men’s duathlon team. Joining him are Maynard Pecson, John Patrick Ciron, Irienold Reig Jr. and Franklin Yee.

With Trupa in the women’s team are Jena Valdez and Bea Marie Quiambao.

DOTr’s “road safety park” to rise in Muntinlupa City

Yesterday in Muntinlupa City, the “road safety park” project of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) was formally started with a groundbreaking ceremony at the Muntinlupa Sports Center, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Thursday broke ground for a new ‘road safety park’ in Muntinlupa City that seeks to promote active transportation through the construction of road safety features and cycling facilities.

The park is being built on a 3,140-square meter lot at the Muntinlupa Sports Center and will be connected to public road transport.

It will feature bike lane classes, public transport stops, a road signage park, and a footbridge, and will be connected to public road transport.

“Through these initiatives, we are not only building infrastructure — we are fostering a culture of safety, sustainability, and inclusivity,” DOTr Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Jesus Ortega said during the groundbreaking rites.

He said cyclists will be able to enjoy end-of-trip cycling facilities featuring a bicycle parking shed with u-shaped racks and a bicycle repair station.

“These efforts will benefit thousands of people, including students, employees, and visitors, as we work together to transform Muntinlupa into a model city for active transport and road safety.”

#1 Saving Private Ryan reaction videos – I still remember the day I saw Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan in the local cinema in 1998. It was a mesmerizing war movie experience. Considering its acclaimed status, commercial success and impact on pop culture, it is not surprising that the movie is the subject of many movie reaction videos on YouTube. That being said, I spotted a few must-see videos. If you have not seen the movie yet, watch it first. Otherwise, enjoy the videos below.

#2 Woke game companies panic as gamers reject their games – There is no doubt that the woke virus and the pathetic DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) have infected a lot of video game companies, most notably Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. This explains why several video games ended up as creative promotions of identity politics, woke concepts and feminist garbage done at the expense of quality and fun. That being said, a lot of gamers collectively rejected the woke games by not buying them, as well as avoiding future woke releases. #3 US President Trump’s plan for the American takeover of the Gaza Strip – I can clearly say that US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a plan for America to take over the Gaza Strip (which is physically located within Israel and borders Egypt in the southwest) to redevelop it was both totally surprising and very ambitious. 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup set for May 3 and 4, registration ongoing

The next edition of the long-running Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – also referred to as the 2025 NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup – will be held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone on May 3 and 4, 2025, and already online registration is ongoing. This special event is a project of Triathlon Philippines, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and Funtastic Subic presented by NTT and Asia Triathlon

The 2-day event supported by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc. and Fitbar will have the Standard Elite, U15 and Super Tri-Kids races on May 3 (Saturday). On May 4 (Sunday), the races for Sprint Jr. Elite, Sprint Para, Sprint Age Group and Standard Age Group will happen.

Race distances are as follows: Standard Distance 1.5 Km swim – 40 Km bike – 10 Km run, Sprint Distance 750 M swim – 20 Km bike – 5 Km run, and U15 Distance 500 M swim – 10 Km bike – 2 Km run.

Race distance for Super Tri-Kids are as follows: 6 and under 50 M swim – 1 Km bike – 400 M run, 7-8 100 M swim – 2 Km bike – 800 M run, 9-10 200 M swim – 6 Km bike – 1 Km run, and 11-12 400 M swim – 8 Km bike – 2 Km run.

Registration fees are as follows: Standard Distance Php 6,500 + online reg fees, Sprint Distance Php 6,000 + online reg fees, U15 Distance Php 5,000 + online reg fees, and Super TriKids Php 4,000 + online reg fees.

Effective April 1, 2025, the registration fees will be as follows: Standard Distance Php 7,500 + online reg fees, Sprint Distance Php 7,000 + online reg fees, U15 Distance Php 6,000 + online reg fees and Super TriKids Php 5,000 + online reg fees.
