10.6 Million Foreign Tourists Visited Vietnam In January-May 2026 Period

carlocarrasco

Vietnam, a nation that was previously ravaged by war, continues to be a strong magnet of visitors as 10.6 million foreign tourists have visited in the first five months of this year, according to a news report by VnExpress. The reported figure is significant as Vietnam attracted over 21 million foreign tourists last year.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report of VnExpress. Some parts in boldface…

Vietnam received a record 10.6 million international visitors in the first five months of 2026, up 14.9% year-on-year.

Data released by the General Statistics Office shows there were 1.78 million arrivals in May alone, up 17%.

The 10 largest source of visitors during the period were mainland China, South Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Cambodia, the U.S., India, Japan, the Philippines and Australia.

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism attributed the strong growth to the country’s reputation as a safe and stable destination amid global political uncertainty.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think Vietnam will be able to attract as many as 25 million foreign tourists by the end of 2026? Do you plan to visit Vietnam someday?

American AI Companies Targeting IT-BPM Sector Of The Philippines

American AI Companies Targeting IT-BPM Sector Of The Philippines

carlocarrasco

With a thriving information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) sector, the Philippines is attracting the attention of American artificial intelligence (AI) firms due to revenues generated and the existing large employment base, according to a Manila Bulletin news report citing the United States Commercial Service (USCS).

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

The Philippines’ information technology and business process management (IT-BPM) sector has emerged as the most viable investment destination for American artificial intelligence (AI) firms, according to the United States Commercial Service (USCS).

USCS Manila commercial specialist Easter Villanueva said the IT-BPM sector is a promising market for US-based AI companies given the revenues it generates and its large employment base.

“Given the size of this sector, AI could play an important role in modernization, productivity, and movement toward higher value services,” she said in a webinar organized by the USCS last week.

The IT-BPM sector generated more than $40 billion in revenues last year, up five percent from $38 billion in 2024, based on data from the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP).

IBPAP said the industry employed 1.9 million workers last year, four percent higher than the previous year’s 1.82 million employees.

This year, the IT-BPM industry is expected to generate $42 billion in revenues and create 1.97 million jobs.

As AI threatens to disrupt the industry, Villanueva said the sector is increasingly becoming more open to integrating AI into its operations, especially when it comes to voice-based services.

“I would think that they would be very much willing to explore [AI], since it is also important for workforce development,” said Villanueva.

“They want to also protect the jobs here in this market, [so] they would want to upskill their agents to be able to integrate their daily operations with AI,” she added.

Aside from the IT-BPM sector, other promising industries for American AI companies include digital transformation, financial services, telecommunications, healthcare, energy, infrastructure, and the public sector.

Villanueva said there are also opportunities in cybersecurity, data governance, and responsible AI, especially as companies become more conscious of data privacy and security.

Based on USCS estimates, AI adoption in the country remains limited, with only about 14.9 percent of companies currently using AI tools.

“This is not yet a mature AI market, and many buyers are still learning what AI can do, what it cannot do, how much it will cost, and how results can be measured. For US companies, this means that the opportunity is not only to sell, but also to educate, build trust, and demonstrate practical value,” said Villanueva.

For AI companies looking to enter the market, she said it is critical to make their use case clear by helping address a specific problem with measurable outcomes while offering cost-effective solutions.

She also recommended that firms work with local partners for market access and implementation support, embed data privacy and AI governance measures early, and adopt a consultative approach with buyers.

“Buyers can be price-sensitive, and companies may face competition from lower-cost providers…So the opportunity is real, but it will require patience, education, and a clear business case,” Villanueva said.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think several AI firms in the United States will proceed to tap the IT-BPM sector of the Philippines soon? What kind of business developments do you think will happen once American AI firms start investing in the Philippines’ IT-BPM sector? Do you think political scandals or government-related blunders of the Philippines might discourage American AI companies from investing?

Food Cart Program In Las Piñas City Expanded To Include More Families

Food Cart Program In Las Piñas City Expanded To Include More Families

carlocarrasco

Recently in Las Piñas City, the new food cart program was expanded to include more families so they could improve their livelihoods and be able to start small-sized businesses of their own, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

Fifteen families in Las Piñas City have been given a fresh opportunity to improve their livelihoods after the city government distributed additional food carts under its ongoing assistance program.

Mayor April Aguilar announced that the food carts were awarded to selected beneficiaries to help them start small businesses and generate extra income for their households. This latest batch of recipients adds to the six families who received food carts on May 2.

Some of those earlier beneficiaries have already launched ventures this summer, selling refreshing “samalamig” drinks and popular street food favorites known as “tusok-tusok.”

These affordable snacks not only bring joy to local communities but also provide steady earnings for the families involved.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying the food carts would help them meet their daily needs and give them a chance to build a more stable source of livelihood for their families.

The mayor said the local government remains committed to implementing programs that create jobs and livelihood opportunities for Las Piñeros as part of the city’s continuing efforts to improve the quality of life of its residents.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, what is your reaction to this development? Are you delighted to see more families getting included in the local food cart program under the City Government?

Dredging Of 870-Meter Stretch Of Las Piñas City River Completed

Dredging Of 870-Meter Stretch Of Las Piñas City River Completed

carlocarrasco

Recently in Las Piñas City, the City Government and its City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) successfully completed the dredging and desilting of the 870-meter stretch of Las Piñas which is crucial as the rainy season has officially started, according to a news report by Manila Bulletin. This was done to prevent potential flooding while also improving the flow of water.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

As part of its preparations for the rainy season, the Las Piñas City government has completed dredging and desilting operations along an 870-meter stretch of the Las Piñas River, reinforcing its commitment to flood mitigation and environmental protection.

The cleanup, led by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO), covered portions of Barangays Pulanglupa Uno, Pulanglupa Dos, and Manuyo Dos.

The initiative aims to improve water flow, remove accumulated silt and debris, and reduce the risk of flooding in nearby communities.

Mayor April Aguilar personally inspected the ongoing dredging activities to ensure the effective implementation of measures designed to keep waterways clear and functional, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.

According to Aguilar, maintaining unobstructed waterways is a key component of its disaster preparedness program. By removing sediment buildup from rivers and drainage channels, the city hopes to minimize flooding and protect residents and properties from the effects of severe weather.

She emphasized that similar environmental and flood-control initiatives will continue through CENRO as part of the city government’s long-term strategy to safeguard communities and preserve the environment.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, what is your reaction to this development? Do you think the City Government and the CENRO are doing good enough to prevent flooding this new rainy season?

carlocarrasco

Japan and the United States have formally confirmed their partnership on the Genesis Mission project and together they will invest heavily on it and cooperate closely over the next several years, according to a news report by NHK World. That said, Japan is officially the first international partner on the ambitious project.

Officially launched by US President Donald Trump in late-2025, Genesis Mission unites the US Department of Energy (DOE) National Labs, industry, academia, and more to harness AI for breakthroughs in energy dominance, discovery science, and national security.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the NHK World report. Some parts in boldface…

Japan will join a US national project called “Genesis Mission,” which is aimed at accelerating scientific research and technological innovation by using artificial intelligence and supercomputers.

Japan will be the project’s first international partner.

The US and Japanese governments will each invest 500 million dollars in the project over five years.

US President Donald Trump’s administration launched the project last November.

Delegates from the US Department of Energy, Japanese ministries of education, science and technology as well as Economy, Trade and Industry signed the statement of intent at the DOE in Washington on Thursday.

DOE Under Secretary for Science and Genesis Mission Lead Dario Gil said it is a “defining moment” for the next era of science.

Under the partnership, US national laboratories and leading Japanese research institutions, including Riken and the National Institute for Materials Science, will boost research collaborations to advance breakthroughs in areas such as quantum information science, fusion energy and biotechnology.

The move is also aimed at strengthening the two partners’ global competitiveness in science and technology with China in mind.

The US and Japanese governments also plan to discuss how to ensure the protection of crucial databases and intellectual property.

The vice-minister for policy coordination of the Japanese education, science and technology ministry, Kakita Yasuyoshi, said Japan has abundant quality data resources obtained through research and development.

Japan Approves Bills To Raise Visa Fees And Introduce Online Pre-Entry Screening

Japan Approves Bills To Raise Visa Fees And Introduce Online Pre-Entry Screening

carlocarrasco

Recently members of Japan’s parliament approved an immigration control law revision that effectively raised fees for foreigners applying for residence status while also paving the way for the introduction of the online pre-entry screening covering those coming from abroad, according to a news report by Kyodo News.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Kyodo News report. Some parts in boldface…

Japan’s parliament on Friday passed an immigration control law revision to raise the maximum fee for residence status applications by foreigners and introduce an online pre-entry travel authorization system for overseas arrivals.

Once the fee changes are implemented later this fiscal year, the upper limit will be set at 100,000 yen ($630) for visa renewals and 300,000 yen for permanent residency applications, marking a sharp increase from the existing threshold of 10,000 yen.

The fees are currently 6,000 yen for changing residence status or extending the period of stay and 10,000 yen for permanent residency. The new fees will be formally set by a Cabinet order after soliciting public comments.

The government, which has cited rising costs for the revision, has said it will ease the payment burden on humanitarian grounds and for those facing financial difficulties, but lawmakers have pointed out during parliamentary deliberations that the criteria for such considerations remain unclear.

The Immigration Services Agency plans to formulate guidelines setting forth specific requirements and other details.

The latest revision also includes the establishment of the Japan Electronic System for Travel Authorization, with an eye on implementation in fiscal 2028.

The system, aimed at preventing terrorism and illegal employment, targets 74 countries and regions whose citizens qualify for visa-free entry for short stays.

Travelers will be required to provide information online, such as their name, purpose of visit, and destination, several days prior to departure, which will be cross-checked against criminal records and other databases.

If there is a suspicion of illegal overstaying, travelers will be denied boarding on planes or ships.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think the newly approved measures will help Japan control immigration better while also enhancing the security of its citizens? Do you think the raised fees will discourage Third World foreigners from migrating to Japan?

Stabbing Incident In Parañaque City Captured On Victim’s Social Media Livestream, Suspect Arrested In Makati City

Stabbing Incident In Parañaque City Captured On Victim’s Social Media Livestream, Suspect Arrested In Makati City

carlocarrasco

Recently in the City of Parañaque, a man stabbed his neighbor within the Silverio Compound and the incident was streamed live on social media on the part of the victim who eventually passed away, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The suspect was eventually apprehended in Makati City.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report of Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

A 34-year-old man was arrested after allegedly slashing and stabbing his 45-year-old neighbor to death in an attack that was captured on the victim’s social media livestream.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, May 28, in Silverio Compound, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City, while the victim, alias “Tata,” was reportedly doing laundry outside his home.

Footage from the victim’s livestream showed the suspect, identified as alias “Omay,” suddenly attacking him with a bladed weapon, slashing his neck and repeatedly stabbing him.

The victim attempted to evade the attack, and at one point, the suspect dropped the knife he was holding. However, authorities said the suspect drew another knife and continued the assault.

He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital by concerned neighbors, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The victim’s cousin said they had exchanged messages shortly before the incident and were shocked to learn about the attack through relatives who had seen the livestream. She later received a call from a doctor informing her that the victim had died.

According to Parañaque City Police chief Col. Nicolas Piñon, investigators found that the victim and the suspect had a longstanding dispute as they were neighbors.

Police said the two had reportedly exchanged heated remarks a day before the killing, and the conflict had not been resolved.

Investigators recovered one of the knives allegedly used in the attack at the crime scene. Following the incident, the suspect fled and went into hiding. He was arrested during a hot pursuit operation in Barangay Singkamas, Makati City, on June 1.

Piñon said police received information on the suspect’s whereabouts and continuously tracked him from the time of the incident until his arrest.

The victim’s family welcomed the arrest and called for justice, expressing grief over the sudden loss of their loved one.

Meanwhile, the suspect’s brother said the suspect contacted him on May 31 and expressed his intention to surrender and take responsibility for what had happened.

Let me end this post by asking you readers: What do you think about this recent development? If you are a resident of Parañaque, are you concerned that tensions between neighbors could someday lead to physical violence?

What To Watch On YouTube Right Now – Part 140

What To Watch On YouTube Right Now – Part 140

carlocarrasco

Welcome back my readers, YouTube viewers and all others who followed this series of articles focused on YouTube videos worth watching.

Have you been searching for something fun or interesting to watch on YouTube? Do you feel bored right now and you crave for something to see on the world’s most popular online video destination?

I recommend you check out the following videos I found.

#1 Retro Videos Of Scary Movie (2000) – Some of you might be aware that a brand new Scary Movie (2026) is coming out very soon. Although it’s nice to see Anna Faris and the Wayans brothers in the trailer of the new movie, I am not very motivated to see it. That said, I am more nostalgic about the original Scary Movie of 2000 and that film is significant as there are many retrospective videos about it in YouTube. As such, I posted below the selected videos of Scary Movie (2000) for your enjoyment.

#2 How Tekken 3 Was Made Possible On PlayStation – When I first played Tekken 3 in the arcades in 1997, I was already an avid fan of Tekken 2 which I played a lot on the PlayStation console. Back then, I wondered how Namco would be able to port Tekken 3 on PlayStation are the arcade version had much more powerful hardware. A year later, Tekken 3 was released on PlayStation and I played it a lot. The more I played it, the more impressed I was with how the game looked and felt on PlayStation. Not only that, Tekken 3 on PlayStation had features that the original arcade version did not offer. To find out how Namco made the “impossible port” of Tekken 3 using the PlayStation’s aging hardware, watch the video below.

#3 1990s NBA Plays That Are Still Great To Watch – Remember how exciting NBA basketball action was back in the 1990s? It was during the 1990s when the NBA became a global phenomenon, when the NBA had such super stars like Michael Jordan, Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal and others who made great basketball plays. Back in those days, the Internet was slowly emerging and there obviously was no social media to amplify the great NBA moments. Posted below is a video that looks back at sixty great NBA plays that would have rocked the world had social media existed much earlier.

#4 Lunch At Ginza – Have you ever been to Ginza when you visited Japan? For the newcomers reading this, Ginza is the premier upscale district in Tokyo famous for shopping, fine dining and entertainment. Believe it or not, there are places in Ginza where visitors can have lunch at affordable rates and be satisfied. Watch and learn from the Nippon TV video below.

#5 You, Me And The Movies React To Resident Evil: Degeneration – When the computer-generated movie Resident Evil: Degeneration was released in 2008, it created a lot of buzz for the dedicated fans of the Resident Evil video games, particularly those who followed the iconic characters Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield (the Resident Evil 2 characters). The limited theatrical releases did not stop the movie from achieving good box office numbers and it went on to sell a lot on DVD and Blu-ray later. But has the movie aged well and does anyone here enjoy it more than the live-action Resident Evil movies of Milla Jovovich? Watch the reaction video below and observe how it impacts You, Me and the Movies.

#6 Shoplifting Rampage By Hijabi Muslim Goes Very Wrong – Did you notice any woman wearing a hijab who engaged in theft lately? Overseas, someone committed shoplifting and things went very wrong. If you manage a store or if you care much about preventing the crime of theft from happening, you better watch the video below and pay close attention to the details. Do not let the Islamists manipulate you and never let them terrorize you.

#7 Origin of The Jackal – You ever heard of The Jackal in comic books? The Jackal is one of Spider-Man’s super villains and he is involved in one of the most tragic events of the icon’s life and also in the sagas about clones. Veteran creator J.M. DeMatteis called the Jackal as “a terrific villain.” To get to know more about the Jackal, watch the video below.

#8 Rhetorical Thrill Reacts To Toy Soldiers – Remember back in the 1990s when there was a slew of action or adventure films with terrorists as the antagonists? This was the so-called “Die Hard effect” in reference to the 1988 classic action film that starred Bruce Willis. In 1991, the movie Toy Soldiers was released and it was about an all-male boarding school that got occupied by terrorists, and only a group of rebellious students can achieve a breakthrough. Recently, Rhetorical Thrill posted her reaction video about Toy Soldiers and it is entertaining to watch.

Japan And The Philippines Committed To Develop Luzon Economic Corridor

Japan And The Philippines Committed To Develop Luzon Economic Corridor

carlocarrasco

Following the big meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae and Philippines president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos in Tokyo, the two nations confirmed they will work together on developing the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) into an economic hub described as “world-class”, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the PNA news article. Some parts in boldface…

The Philippines and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to transform the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) into a “world-class economic hub,” recognizing its strategic role in strengthening regional economic architecture and global supply chain resilience.

In a joint statement following a summit meeting in Tokyo, Japan on Thursday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi pledged to deepen cooperation on high-impact infrastructure and economic initiatives under the LEC framework.

Priority areas include rail and port modernization, clean energy, semiconductor supply chains, digital connectivity, agribusiness, and civilian port upgrades.

“They also reaffirmed their strong commitment to transforming the LEC into a world-class economic hub that strengthens global supply chains, accelerates economic development, and delivers mutual economic prosperity,” the joint statement read.

The LEC is a trilateral initiative involving the Philippines, Japan, and the United States (US) aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic growth across Luzon, particularly along the Subic-Clark-Manila-Batangas corridor.

The Philippines and Japan acknowledged the importance of trilateral cooperation with the US and coordination with like-minded partners such as Australia and India in upholding a “free and open” international order based on the rule of law.

The two leaders emphasized that strengthening infrastructure connectivity and resilience through Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) is vital not only to the Philippines’ economic growth but also to regional stability.

Japan reaffirmed its support for “high-quality, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure development” to help advance the Philippines’ economic and social transformation.

The two countries also agreed to deepen cooperation in economic security, including efforts to strengthen resilient and diversified supply chains in critical minerals, renewable energy, automotive manufacturing, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI).

They likewise committed to enhancing collaboration on digital infrastructure, including undersea cables and 5G Open RAN technologies, while promoting secure and trustworthy AI ecosystems through the Japan-ASEAN Co-creation Initiative for AI.

On trade and investment, both sides stressed the importance of full implementation of existing agreements such as the Philippines-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, the ASEAN-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think Japan’s involvement in the Luzon Economic Corridor will be beneficial to the Philippines economically? What do you think Japan can gain from developing the Luzon Economic Corridor?

Philippines President And US Secretary Of State Discuss Important Matters Over The Phone

Philippines President And US Secretary Of State Discuss Important Matters Over The Phone

carlocarrasco

During the morning yesterday, Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos received a telephone call from United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio and they discussed security and economic priorities, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. Rubio reaffirmed America’s commitment to peace and stability in the South China Sea and the Luzon Economic Corridor (for references, click here and here).

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

President Marcos and United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed bilateral security and economic priorities, including developments in the South China Sea and regional energy concerns, during a phone call on Monday morning, June 1.

In a Facebook post, President Marcos described his phone call with Rubio as “productive.”

“I had a productive phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio this morning, during which we discussed critical regional and economic priorities, and bilateral trade matters,” he said.

“Our exchange underscored our countries’ mutual commitment to strengthening the PH-US alliance and addressing shared regional interests,” he added.

Details of the conversation were first released by the US State Department through a readout attributed to spokesperson Thomas Pigott.

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to discuss a range of bilateral economic and security priorities, including efforts to advance peace and security in the South China Sea,” the statement read.

According to the US State Department, Rubio also reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to the Luzon Economic Corridor — a trilateral initiative involving the Philippines, the US, and Japan aimed at accelerating infrastructure and investment projects in Luzon.

“The Secretary reaffirmed US commitment to developing the Luzon Economic Corridor and exploring ways to address the energy challenges in the region,” the statement added.

Rubio also underscored the strength of the long-standing alliance between Manila and Washington.

“The Secretary emphasized the strength of the United States-Philippines Alliance and the continued close cooperation as the two countries commemorate 80 years of diplomatic relations and 75 years as Allies in 2026, the US readout stated.

The Philippines and the United States are treaty allies under the 1951 Mutual Defense Treaty and have expanded defense cooperation in recent years amid growing tensions in the South China Sea.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this development? Do you think the current state of ties between America and the Philippines will eventually get stronger soon? Do you think the anticipated economic benefits of Pax Silica and the Luzon Economic Corridor will be realized before the end of President Marcos’ term? Do you think the Philippines will have to drop whatever agreements it recently made with America’s enemies such as Communist China, the Palestinian terrorists and the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran?
