To the people of Parañaque City, did you notice something highly unusual in your community? Did you somehow purchase items that turned out to be fake? Have you been often using the products you bought recently?
Well, you might want to practice caution because a few days ago it was reported through the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that billions of pesos worth of fake products were seized by Customs agents in the City of Parañaque, specifically in Barangay Baclaran (or simply Baclaran as written in the report).
You want details? Check out this excerpt from the PNA’s report. Some parts in boldface…
Bureau of Customs (BOC) officers have seized some PHP2 billion worth of various counterfeit items in Parañaque City.
In a statement on Friday, the bureau said the goods were seized during an inspection of storage facilities by the Intelligence Group’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) – Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) in Baclaran on Thursday.
The items are composed of earphones, shoes, and bags bearing known registered trademarks such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Onitsuka Tiger, Vans, Adidas, Nike, JBL, Sony, and Jordan.
The team also discovered counterfeit personal care products such as Cetaphil, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Vaseline, Jergens, Dove, Nivea, Glutamax, Kojic, Joe Malone, Bulgari, D&G, Channel, Victoria’s Secret, Hugo Boss, and Clinique.
The haul is one of the bureau’s biggest seizure of counterfeit goods this year.
The inspection was conducted through a letter of authority (LOA) and mission order (MO) signed by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.
The imported items were seized for the possible violation of Section 118 (f) of the Republic Act (RA) 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and RA 8293 also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (IPCP).
The BOC also stated that beauty products and perfume found to be fake may contain chemicals that are toxic and harmful to users. Now check out this related news video.
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think about the Philippine News Agency’s report and the above news video? Did you notice something strange going on in your local community there in Parañaque City? Do you believe that fake goods are being moved around your community? Who do you think is responsible for all those fake goods that the BOC seized in Baclaran?
Now that you read about the fake goods raided by Customs, do you feel discouraged about online shopping?
Have you heard about the Parañaque Renaissance? If you did, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?

As a geek, I often enjoyed the science fiction (sci-fi) genre of entertainment. Star Wars made its mark in movies, video games (note: I enjoyed playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on the original Xbox console), toys and comic books. I love watching V: The Original Miniseries and in recent times I successfully bought myself a Blu-ray copy of it to enjoy it all over again in high-definition. On Xbox 360, I enjoyed heavily replaying the three Mass Effect games (2007-2012) and even had one last replay of the entire trilogy using the backward compatibility feature on Xbox One a few years ago.
When it comes to recent gaming, I deeply enjoyed playing The Outer Worlds in its full design and concept (note: with the Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos DLC expansion packs included) from start to finish on my aging Xbox One console. That sci-fi RPG developed by Obsidian Entertainment is the best of its kind that I have played in the 8th console generation.
For the future, there are two things that keep me really interested in the sci-fi RPG sub-genre of video gaming as well as gaming on Xbox.
First is Bethesda’s Starfield which is anticipated to be exclusive to Xbox and PC and may be released in 2022. As the Xbox-Bethesda showcase on June 13 is approaching, my anticipation for Starfield is growing even though the key details about it remain a mystery. Having played Bethesda’s Fallout 4 on Xbox One and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Xbox 360, I can imagine Starfield having 3rd person and 1st person views with in-depth exploration, varied forms of interacting with other characters and NPCs (non-playable characters), and shooting plus some melee combat.
The brand-new sci-fi RPG from Bethesda!
As Starfield is sci-fi in concept, there will surely be lots of gameplay features that will make it different from Fallout and Elder Scroll games, and stand out among sci-fi RPGs. I am anticipating space travel, spaceship battles, visiting planets, customizing spaceships, encountering alien lifeforms, the exploration of space stations and more. Such sci-fi concepts remind me of what I enjoyed in Mass Effect games and in The Outer Worlds, but given Bethesda’s RPG design and approach to gameplay, I am confident that Starfield will have features that will make it different as far as sci-fi concepts and game design go.
The lack of clear details about Starfield only make its anticipated unveiling at the Xbox-Bethesda special event even more attractive. I am confident that Todd Howard will make the big presentation of it.
Second is the future of The Outer Worlds as a game franchise under the control of Team Xbox and Xbox game studio Obsidian Entertainment (note: they were acquired in 2018). To make things clear, game publishing label Private Division (under Take-Two) has the publishing rights of the original game that came out to multiple platforms in 2019. As to who owns the The Outer Worlds as an intellectual property, it is Microsoft which is the result of its acquisition of Obsidian (the creator of The Outer Worlds) which happened during the development of the said game. That being said, Private Division and Take-Two stake is limited to the first game. The rest (note: future iterations) belong to Microsoft and Team Xbox and Obsidian will be managing it.
A quick look back at 2019’s The Outer Worlds.
To put things in perspective, check out this excerpt from Gamasutra’s May 19, 2021 article which was updated with clarifications from Take-Two. Some parts in boldface…
A spokesperson from Private Division, the American publisher owned by Take-Two, has explained the company won’t be involved with “future iterations” of The Outer Worlds franchise, noting that Obsidian and owner Microsoft will be steering the ship moving forward.
Microsoft has been looking to expand its stable of first-party titles for some time, having spent huge sums of cash on a variety of studios over the past few years, such as its recent $7.5 billion acquisition of Bethesda.
Although the company purchased Obsidian back in 2018, The Outer Worlds developer worked with Take-Two’s subsidiary Private Division to publish the game. Recent remarks from Take-Two president Karl Slatoff had indicated that relationship would continue, but an update from Private Division has confirmed that Microsoft now intends to take charge of the franchise.
“Private Division is still supporting and marketing The Outer Worlds, including the upcoming release of Murder on Eridanos DLC on Nintendo Switch,” said the company. “Moving forward, Obsidian and Microsoft will be publishing future iterations in the franchise, and we’re absolutely thrilled to see where they take it.“
Now that it is clear that Microsoft, Team Xbox and Obsidian Entertainment have The Outer Worlds under their belt and with commercial and critical success achieved with the first game, it is anticipated that the developers behind it may announce a sequel during the Xbox-Bethesda showcase on June 13. Here’s an excerpt from Windows Central Gaming’s recent article…
Building content for E3 takes a huge chunk of dev time, and many of these games are just in deep content development right now, rather than being prepped for marketing materials.
Obsidian, however, could appear in a big way. I’ve been told conflicting information about the possibility of Avowed being at the show, which is Obsidian’s first-person RPG set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, making me think there’s a 50/50 chance we could see something on it. I’ve also been told that, surprisingly, Outer Worlds 2 may be announced.
And then there is this video by Colteastwood mentioning that Obsidian is ready to announce The Outer Worlds sequel at the June 13 showcase.
I believe it is inevitable that Starfield and The Outer Worlds will be confirmed very soon as Xbox and PC-exclusive franchises (beyond the games, take note) of the sci-fi RPG sub-genre.
While I can only speculate what story concept, characters and game design for Starfield will turn out with under Bethesda, I can imagine future games of The Outer Worlds getting more varied in terms of game design, characters, settings, in-game environments, storytelling, exploration and more now that Obsidian has better resources under Team Xbox.
As it is clear Obsidian is very busy already working on the fantasy RPG Avowed, it is very likely they will make the announcement of the sequel to The Outer Worlds in the form of a CGI trailer. As to how The Outer Worlds 2 will turn out in the years to come, I hope the developers will add spaceship battles (with real-time shooting on other ships for great interaction), more boarding of other spaceships, more varieties of monsters and enemies to fight with on-foot, building a brand-new colony or settlement and the like.
With the upcoming Starfield and future The Outer World games under the Xbox umbrella, sci-fi role-playing games will not only establish Xbox as the haven for RPG enthusiasts in the years to come but also help increase the Xbox Game Pass (XGP) base of paying subscribers, help increase the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X console userbase and help the overall Xbox LIVE membership grow a lot! Also imagine the many other fans of The Outer Worlds on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch (who don’t own Xbox consoles) buy Xbox Series consoles for the sequels.
More on the sci-fi RPG sub-genre, I can say that Team Xbox, Bethesda and Obsidian have a potential gold mine once their upcoming games turn out great, keep gamers very happy and convince them and other enthusiasts of RPGs and science fiction to come back for more.
If the current success of EA’s Mass Effect: Legendary Edition indicates anything, it only serves as a reminder that the Mass Effect franchise’s greatness happened long ago and EA and BioWare themselves still have yet to achieve brand new success with the said franchise without resorting to nostalgia.
The way things are right now, Team Xbox/Bethesda/Obsidian are in better positions than EA/BioWare when it comes to making great sci-fi RPGs. For the Xbox fans who love RPGs and science fiction, the games from Bethesda and Obsidian are sure to be exclusive on their consoles plus Windows PC.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…
Aside from the manual and online registration, Vice Mayor April Aguilar said Las Piñas is also offering on-site assisted registration in the city’s vaccination venues.
Aguilar said registration officers will be deployed in vaccination sites to assist visitors or passers-by who wish to be listed for vaccination.
In a recent post by the City Government on its official Facebook page, those who register on-site will be given a profiling form for them to disclose their details. This third way of registration should attract the attention of those who don’t have smartphones or computers, those who don’t have access to the Internet and those who could not register themselves the manual way.
In relation, the number of residents who got vaccinated has exceeded the 80,000 mark. In fact, most recently, the latest count was updated by the local health office as 86,137 as of June 2, 2021. The breakdowns are 57,597 who were vaccinated with the first dose, and 28,540 residents who received successfully their second dose. The grand total of Las Piñas should reach 100,000 soon.
Let this be a key reference for you.
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Are you an unregistered Las Piñas resident who feels intimidated with the manual and online registration methods that were available? Does the addition of on-site assisted registration encourage you to get registered? If you were to choose among the three methods, which one appeals to you the most?
Does this latest development from the City Government encourage you to get registered and line up for the free COVID-19 vaccine?
To those who got vaccinated already in Las Piñas City, how long did it take you to get vaccinated during your time at the local vaccinate site? Were the personnel gentle and helpful towards you? Were walk-ins allowed?
To Las Piñas City residents who successfully got vaccinated with two doses, are you thankful to the City Government officials, personnel and their strategic partners for organizing the local vaccination program during this time of crisis?

But there is more! According to an article published by Philippine News Agency (PNA), Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that further supplies of Sputnik V vaccine doses will keep coming to the Philippines.
To put things in perspective, posted blow is an excerpt from the PNA’s article. Some parts in boldface…
The Philippines can expect more Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine doses in the coming months after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to increase the volume of deliveries.
According to a statement from the Office of the President (OP), Putin made this commitment in a telesummit with President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday.
“President Putin said that Russia will increase the volume of deliveries of Sputnik V vaccines to the Philippines,” the OP statement read.
Duterte, for his part, thanked Putin for making Sputnik V available to the Philippines and reiterated the importance of the expeditious delivery of ordered vaccines.
On May 30, the Philippines received 50,000 more doses of the Sputnik V vaccines.
The country has so far received a total of 80,000 Sputnik V doses, including the latest shipment.
In relation to the above details, check out this news video by GMA Network.
For the newcomers reading this, Sputnik V is an adenovirus viral vector vaccine for COVID-19 developed by Russia-based Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. When the first batch of the Russian vaccines arrived in early May, the City of Muntinlupa was one of the first cities to receive them. In connection to the latest batch that arrived from Russia, Sputnik V has finally made its way to the island province of Cebu. I should state that President Putin’s vow to deliver more of his nation’s vaccines into the Philippines is significant and the results will be seen in the months to come.
To learn about Sputnik V, watch these two videos…
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Does this news about Sputnik V boost your confidence with vaccines for COVID-19? How crucial is President Putin’s vow (on delivering more Sputnik V vaccines to the Philippines) considering the ongoing efforts of vaccination in the Philippines? Were you vaccinated with the Russian vaccine?

According to a recent news report by the Manila Bulletin, over eighty thousand residents of Las Piñas City got vaccinated for COVID-19. To be more specific, the official count was at 82,526 residents who received the first and second doses of the free vaccines. This was announced by the City Government of Las Piñas to the Manila Bulletin just as a brand-new vaccination site opened within the city lately.
To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report which highlighted the new vaccination site. Some parts in boldface…
The Las Pinas City government’s biggest vaccination site located at The Tent, Vista Global South in C5 Extension, is now open to serve residents and can accommodate around 650 to 1,000 vaccinees a day.
Paul San Miguel, public Information chief, said the new vaccination site is an addition to the 14 existing centers that provide service to around 300 people a day.
San Miguel said the city government now has a total of 15 vaccination sites around the city and will add five more centers to speed-up the vaccination program of the city.
He also said the city government already vaccinated around 82,526 residents with the first and second doses against COVID-19.
The Las Pinas City government also emphasized the importance of vaccination in a Facebook post and reminded residents who have not been inoculated to register for it.
San Miguel said the city government is also giving free face masks to those who are given the vaccines in all vaccination centers.
Mayor Imelda Aguilar also urged city residents to observe the basic health protocols to stop the spread of the virus.
The above is really good news for city residents. The Tent along C5 Extension should help the many registered residents in terms of getting vaccinated in a more comfortable and more spacious place. The said new vaccination should also help somewhat in decongesting the traffic at the smaller vaccination sites around the city. For all other residents who have not yet registered, local registration for free COVID-19 vaccines in the city is still ongoing and the details as well as steps can be read right here.
For those who missed out on the recent Las Piñas City COVID-19 vaccination news, new vaccination sites are being established and residents who successfully got vaccinated can become eligible in a city raffle draw and have chances to win goods, motorcycles and a house-and-lot. There are certain requirements to qualify for the program and in order to get vaccinated, unvaccinated residents are welcome to register via the City Government’s online system at bit.ly/LasPiñasVaccination
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think of The Tent as the newest vaccination site in the city? Is the City Government working hard and fast enough to set up new vaccination sites? Does Representative Camille Villar’s incentive program convince you to come out, get registered and line up for the free COVID-19 vaccine in your city? Were you able to get vaccinated in an orderly and efficient manner?

We all know that the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcaseis fast approaching and it certainly is the most anticipated digital event for fans of both Xbox and Bethesda. The June 13, 2021 event will surely have a lot of eager fans waiting not only for exciting new games but also truly great stuff.
Get ready for this, Xbox fans, Bethesda fans and all others who love video games.
Previously, I posted what I hoped to see at the Xbox-Bethesda event. In relation to those, it is clear that while things are looking strongly positive ever since the integration of Bethesda into Xbox, Team Xbox itself and its head Phil Spencer still have a lot to prove on June 13. In fact, the stakes are much higher now and there is simply no room left for any error. They have to deliver great stuff this time around and they really need to exceed last year’s Xbox Games Showcase (which I found to be good but not great) not by just a few feet higher but many miles higher.
Simply put, good enough is simply NOT good enough this time around.
What I meant earlier by great stuff that needs to be delivered by Team Xbox refers to the following: fulfilling the highly anticipated showcases of Halo Infinite and Starfield complete with all the relevant details (including final release dates); showing more of their 1st party games being made by their many Xbox game studios; and confirming what games were finalized between Xbox Publishing and 3rd party game makers. They should also show more gameplay footage by means of demonstrations, make new announcements with regards to improving the already enjoyable Xbox Game Pass (XGP) service, and come up with surprises that will be remembered with excitement!
For Starfield, I believe it is high time for Xbox-Bethesda to showcase the game a lot with gameplay footage and confirm once and for all that it is indeed exclusive to Xbox Series consoles and Windows PC…all of these with Todd Howard as the presenter whenever possible. Such details will strengthen the fans’ trust in Xbox-Bethesda, and at the same time silence the people who hate Xbox.
What Microsoft owns, Sony and Nintendo simply have no rights to.
More on 1st party games and projects, Team Xbox should provide at least updates (if not gameplay demos or trailers that use captured gameplay footage or short video clips about the productions) of games they announced previously such as Fable, Forza Motorsport, Avowed, Perfect Dark and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
When it comes to the unexpected (AKA the surprises), it would be exciting to see the following happen if ever possible:
Xbox Publishing announcing that it has made a deal with Deep Silver and secured the rumored Saints Row 5 as an Xbox-exclusive game.
Team Xbox (through its publishing arm) announcing that it has renewed its ties with Mistwalker to create a sequel to the Xbox favorite JRPG Lost Odyssey…with Hironobu Sakaguchi as presenter.
Konami announcing the release of all Suikoden RPGs on Xbox LIVE and Xbox Game Pass.
Sega announcing a remastered version of Shining Force III (with all 3 chapters translated into English for the first time ever) for release on Xbox LIVE and Xbox Game Pass.
Xbox game studio and RPG specialist Obsidian Entertainment – already very busy making Avowed – announcing a sequel to The Outer Worlds (confirming that Microsoft has rightfully gained control of the franchise) exclusively for Xbox Series consoles and PC.
Capcom announcing a new Dead Rising game – be it a sequel or a series reboot – exclusively for Xbox Series consoles and PC.
EA and BioWare announcing a brand-new Mass Effect game at the Xbox-Bethesda event.
Square Enix announcing it will release Dragon’s Quest XII on Xbox LIVE and Xbox Game Pass with series creator Yuji Horii doing the presentation.
Capcom announcing a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica (much in the styles of the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3)
To watch the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase on June 13, posted below are the links for your reference.
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: When it comes to the unexpected, what kind of announcements would really surprise you at the Xbox-Bethesda event? Do you hope to see Halo Infinite truly have an open-world design? Do you think that Mexico will be the setting for Forza Horizon 5? Is Starfield your most anticipated game from Bethesda right now? Do you think it is possible for a Lost Odyssey sequel to be made? Do you believe that Phil Spencer and the rest of Team Xbox have what it takes to deliver great stuff and surprises in the Xbox-Bethesda special event?
In closing this article, posted below are Xbox-related videos for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

As I was browsing for South Metro Manila news on the website of the Manila Bulletin, I found the latest crime news related to Parañaque. It is about local police officers succeeding in their buy-bust operation that resulted the seizure of over a million pesos worth of illegal drugs and the arrest of three suspects. The local police officers and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) deserve to admiration and thanks in the fight against what seems to be a wave of crime plaguing Parañaque a lot lately (read about the cyber sex den raid, the kidnapped Chinese national, the arrest of suspects related to illegal sale of COVID-19 test kits, illegal drugs in the city, the shooting incident and smuggled face shields in the city, and the arrest of a very wanted Japanese national).
To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from Manila Bulletin’s report. Some parts in boldface…
Southern Police District (SPD) Director, Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, identified the suspects as Mary Ann Villa, 31, of 75 Peras St., General Malvar Exit, Bagong Bario, Caloocan City; Christina Bungay, 33, of Block 13d Lot 20, Karimas Village, Barangay Panghulo, Malabon City; and Sohaily Batao, 30, of Phase 12 Barangay 188, Tala, Caloocan Cty.
Macaraeg said the suspects were arrested at about 2:50 p.m. on May 31 in front of a restaurant located along service road, Roxas Boulevard, Barangay Baclaran, Paranaque City.
He said that prior to the arrest of the suspects, members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) coordinated with the Paranaque Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) on the conduct of the buy-bust operation.
The SPD chief said that PDEA and SDEU operatives were able to confiscate a plastic sachets and bags containing a total of 200 grams of shabu worth P1,360,000.
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Do you believe that Parañaque will continue to be an attractive city for criminals? Who could be behind the smuggling of illegal drugs around the city? Does this latest Parañaque crime news make you feel safe or uneasy living in the city?
Have you heard about the Parañaque Renaissance? If you did, what is the first thing that comes to your mind?

As the old say goes – the more, the better! In the case of this ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Philippines needs all the vaccines it can get! A new development is brewing in relation to this.
Yesterday, it was announced through the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that ten million vaccines doses are being eyed by the national vaccination program as additional vaccines will arrive in this new month of June. In addition, the newest supply of COVID-19 vaccine from Russia called Sputnik V just arrived.
To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the PNA’s article. Some parts in boldface…
The national vaccination program is eyeing to reach 10 million doses by the middle of the year as the bulk of Sputnik, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca orders arrive within June.
On June 6, one million doses of China’s Sinovac are expected while 1.3 million and 900,000 US-made Pfizer jabs are arriving on June 7 and 11, respectively.
Moderna vaccines, also from the US, are scheduled for delivery on June 21.
“We are very thankful that we have already breached the five-million figure and this June, mapapabilis tayo (we will speed up). We are aiming to breach another five by the end of this month,” said National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. on Sunday night during the arrival of 50,000 doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccines at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“There will also be another batch from the COVAX facility this month most likely,” he added.
The Sputnik V jabs were taken to the PharmaServ cold storage in Marikina City.
So far, the country has received 80,000 doses of the Russian vaccines after the first two tranches of 15,000 doses each on May 1 and 12. Another shipment will arrive within 21 days.
Russian Ambassador to the Philippines Marat Pavlov, who also welcomed the delivery, said the occasion further strengthened cooperation between the two nations in fighting the pandemic.
“This is timely for the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Russia. It is important for us to help the Filipino people. [We hope to] contribute to the strength in our relationship,” he said in an interview.
Last week, Russian Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Morgulov said the vaccine allotment is one of the prominent areas for cooperation between the Philippines and Russia and expressed hope that more batches of the jabs could be delivered in the next months.
Indeed, more of the COVID-19 vaccines are coming in gradually here in the Philippines. Any new supply that arrives is welcome because there simply are not enough to vaccinate local citizens with the required two doses. And then there are also other challenges such as preserving the delicate vaccines and delivering them by the bulk to different cities, towns and barangays.
Meanwhile, the City of Muntinlupa confirmed that as of May 27, 2021, 46,015 residents have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, of which 16,989 have received their second dose. For those inoculated with their first dose, 22,758 received Sinovac, 16,771 were inoculated with AstraZeneca, 2,979 with Gamaleya’s Sputnik V, and 3,507 with Pfizer-BioNTech.
Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you were vaccinated already, how many doses were you inject with right now? What was the brand of vaccine you got injected with? Did you experience any tremendous chaos or disorganization when you lined up to get vaccinated at the local vaccination site?
