AHVA Announces 2026 Bar Exams Security Plan for September 6, 9 and 13

Once again, San Beda College Alabang (SBCA) inside Alabang Hills Village will be hosting the bar exams schedule for September 6, 9 and 13. In relation to this, the Alabang Hills Village Association (AHVA) announced the security plan to ensure safe, secure and traffic-free conditions along Don Manolo and Don Jesus Boulevards during the conduct of the exams.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the AHVA’s official announcement. Some parts in boldface…

We would like to inform you that the Supreme Court of the Philippines has once again decided to have the 2026 Bar Exams conducted at San Beda College Alabang (SBCA). Exam dates/times are set for September 6, 9 & 13, from 0700H to 1800H.*

For this 3-day event, AHVA Security has developed a comprehensive security plan in coordination with relevant authorities. The objective of the plan is to ensure safe, secure and traffic-free conditions along Don Manolo and Don Jesus Boulevards during the conduct of the exams.

Following are the restrictions:

A. VEHICLE CONTROL

During the examination dates, only vehicles with valid AHVA stickers and Supreme Court car passes will be authorized to enter Alabang- Zapote & Tirona gates.
Vehicles of expected visitors, delivery & village workers are requested to enter the Don Jesus Blvd gate

B. CROWD CONTROL

Bar supporters and well wishers are not allowed to gather at the drop-off area and in Alabang-Zapote & Tirona gates
Village workers with valid AHVA IDs are requested to enter the Don Jesus Blvd gate
Media Personnel who wish to cover the on- going bar examination are not allowed to enter the village.

You can visit their office at 1 Don Jesus Boulevard inside Alabang Hills Village from Monday to Friday, 8AM to 5PM. America Sanctions ICC President and Trial Lawyer

Following the start of the campaign to dismantle the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) threat to national sovereignty, the United States Department of State announced it has sanctioned two ICC officials namely their president Tomoko Akane of Japan and trial lawyer Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal. Already the Prime Minister of Japan described the sanctions on the ICC president as “very unfortunate.”

To put things in perspective, posted below is the entire statement of the US State Department by Secretary Marco Rubio. Some parts in boldface…

The Trump Administration has been clear: the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a corrupt and fatally politicized supranational court that has maliciously abused its authority and exceeded its mandate. We will not tolerate its assault on state sovereignty.

In furtherance of the diplomatic campaign we launched last month to address the ICC’s abuses of power, I am designating two ICC officials – President of the ICC, Tomoko Akane of Japan, and ICC Senior Trial Lawyer, Abdoulaye Seye of Senegal – pursuant to Executive Order 14203, “Imposing Sanctions on the International Criminal Court.” These individuals have directly engaged in efforts by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute officials whose government has not consented to ICC jurisdiction.

The ICC has repeatedly attempted to assert authority over nationals of the United States and other countries that have not consented to its jurisdiction or ratified the Rome Statute. This sets a dangerous precedent for all nations.

Our whole of government campaign to dismantle the threat posed by the ICC to national sovereignty will be sweeping and we expect more countries to join our campaign by ending their funding and participation in this politicized and unaccountable court. The ICC’s ability to target American nationals and those of other non-States Parties must end. The Trump Administration stands ready to take additional measures, if necessary, to systematically dismantle the ICC until it is incapable of threatening American sovereignty.

Japan’s reaction – Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae described the sanctions against ICC president Akane as “very unfortunate.” She told reporters that her government will deal with the situation by “continuing communication with relevant nations including the United States.” Japan is known to have supported the ICC for many years already.

#1 Ashleigh Burton reacts to Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb – When it comes to movies about the Cold War and the rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union, Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 movie Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb stood out with its very unique presentation backed with memorable performances by Peter Sellers and George C. Scott. The film was a satire about the Cold War tensions between America and Russia, and it gave moviegoers a unique look as to what could have happened behind the secured government offices and how each nation communicated with each other over the hotline. Kubrick’s film is so significant, it got featured in many movie reaction videos on YouTube and I had fun watching Ashleigh Burton’s reaction video. Go watch it now!

#2 Behind the Scenes Making of Resident Evil (1996) – It has been over thirty years since Resident Evil was first released and today it has grown into a multimedia entertainment franchise still driven by video game productions. Although many video game publications published a lot of articles about the original game from 1996, none of them captured the behind-the-scenes making at Capcom which the YouTube video below features. Even if you are not a Resident Evil fan, I still encourage you to watch it as you can learn a lot about the process, the hard work done by the Japanese and insight shared by Shinji Mikami.

Recently, record-breaking rainfall hit Chiba Prefecture causing a lot of flood and hardship for the Japanese. #7 Role-playing Games About 1990s Anime – Believe it or not, there are indeed role-playing games (RPGs) based on anime properties that were popular in the 1990s. #8 Assorted Pacific Rim Reaction Videos – When Pacific Rim was released in cinemas worldwide in 2013, I never bothered to watch it in the local cinema. The movie eventually grossed over $400 million worldwide through theaters and a lot of people enjoyed its high-quality visuals, intense battles and the special attention to detail invested on the size and scale of the locations. #10 Shallow Focus is a Disease in Movies – There is a new trend that has influence the production of movies in Hollywood (AKA Commiewood) for many years now and it has literally become a disease which made the viewing of movies undesirable. The disease is shallow focus which occurs when the area of sharpness in front of a camera lens is very narrow which results in blurry backgrounds. Shallow focus is being abused in modern-day filmmaking and it is only getting worse. Muntinlupa City Mayor Laments Dumping of Trash into Drainage Systems

As personnel of the City Government of Muntinlupa worked hard unclogging the drainage systems, Mayor Ruffy Biazon lamented the dumping of trash into them which resulted in flooding in different parts of the city, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon lamented the dumping of trash into drainage systems, which contributes to flooding in various barangays.

Personnel from the Muntinlupa City government have been unclogging drainage systems in different areas.

Biazon said a tire was found in a drainage ditch on Narra Street in Lakeview, Barangay Putatan.

“Palaisipan talaga sa akin bakit sa aming declogging ng mga drainage sa iba’t ibang lugar sa Muntinlupa, may nakukuhang gulong na nakabara (It’s really a mystery to me why, when we declog drainages in various areas in Muntinlupa, we find tires),” he said.

He added that such obstructions are a major obstacle to the flow of water. The mayor has instructed the city’s Engineering Office to continue declogging operations.

However, he noted that because there are so many drainage systems, the Engineering Office cannot handle them all at once.

The mayor stressed the importance of barangay cooperation to ensure proper drainage flow.

“Hindi makakaila na ang basura ay may kontribusyon sa pagbaha. Kahit regular ang declogging pero patuloy pa rin ang walang pakundangan na pagkalat ng basura, mahihirapan tayong makamit ang efficient na pagdaloy ng ating drainage systems. Lahat tayo may responsibilidad sa pananatili ng kalinisan ng ating lungsod (It cannot be denied that garbage contributes to flooding. Even if declogging is done regularly, if garbage continues to be spread carelessly, it will be difficult for us to achieve efficient flow in our drainage systems. We all have a responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of our city),” he said.

Vietnamese National Arrested In Parañaque City Over Financial Crime

Recently in the City of Parañaque, a woman from Vietnam was arrested for estafa over a money deal in which she failed to release P70,000 to a Chinese national who transferred foreign currency to her, according to a news report by The Daily Tribune.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from The Daily Tribune report. Some parts in boldface…

A 32-year-old Vietnamese national was arrested in Parañaque City after allegedly receiving 7,607.98 Chinese yuan through Alipay but failing to turn over the agreed P70,000 equivalent in Philippine currency to a Chinese national.

The incident occurred on 7 August at around 3:20 p.m. at Bayview Garden Homes 2 along Roxas Boulevard in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City. The complainant was identified as a 28-year-old Chinese national.

Initial investigation showed that the two met through a Telegram group where the suspect allegedly offered money exchange services.

The complainant transferred 7,607.98 Chinese yuan to an Alipay account designated by the suspect in exchange for P70,000.

However, the suspect allegedly failed to deliver the agreed cash and repeatedly made excuses when the complainant demanded payment, prompting him to seek police assistance and file charges.

The Vietnamese national was arrested for alleged violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code, or estafa.

A Look Back at Robin #1 (1991)

Welcome back superhero enthusiasts, 1990s culture enthusiasts and comic book collectors! Today we go back to the year 1991 to explore a part of the DC Comics shared universe through one very notable comic book featuring Batman’s sidekick Robin.

For decades, the Caped Crusader Batman (who is business tycoon Bruce Wayne during the day) had Robin as his skilled teenage partner fighting countless waves of criminals in many comic books published through the decades. The most notable fact about Robin is that there are three different characters who took the role as Batman’s sidekick…Dick Grayson (who later joined the Teen Titans and became Nightwing), Jason Todd (who died as a result of a warehouse explosion set up by the Joker who beat him mercilessly) and Tim Drake. Behind the scenes at DC Comics, a decision was made to publish a comic book mini-series featuring Tim Drake Robin.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Robin #1, published in 1991 by DC Comics with a story written by Chuck Dixon and drawn by the late Tom Lyle.

Early story

The story begins inside the Batcave. Tim Drake is still adjusting in his new role as Robin and right in front of Bruce Wayne (wearing his Batman costume), he feels uneasy deep inside even though he got the role after wanting it so badly. He just could not tell him how much it scares him.

Even though Tim admits he feels unsure and needs more time, Bruce tells him he is ready to be his partner. Still the new Boy Wonder says he is not sure if he has what it takes. Bruce reminds Tim that he has proven to be smart after figuring out correctly his secret identity as Batman. He tells him that he needs to develop himself more to gain his edge.

Meanwhile in Japan, the deadly assassin Lady Shiva meets the martial artist Koroshi and discovers he has been paralyzed and limited on a wheelchair…

Quality

*Tim Drake undergoes training in Paris. Bruce Wayne sent him there to improve himself by learning from a master.*

As a tale strongly focused on Robin, this comic book has a fine blend of action, discovery, intrigue and even elements of culture clash. It gradually dramatizes Tim Drake’s development into Robin showing moments of trial-and-error, getting himself educated far away from home, experiencing humiliation and overcoming the odds while having limitations.

The script written by Chuck Dixon is not limited to presenting how the newest Robin came to be. I enjoyed how Dixon crafted Tim Drake’s private talks with Batman and the butler Alfred Pennyworth. Each interaction with the established characters were rich in details and there is that sense of the new Robin looking up to Batman as his mentor and to Alfred as a guidance councilor.

*The new Robin learns valuable lessons from Alfred at Wayne’s residence.*

By going all the way to France to learn from an Asian master, Tim Drake’s journey has some similarities with how Bruce Wayne developed himself into becoming Batman. It should be noted that this tale took place sometime after the death of his predecessor Jason Todd (beaten by the Joker who eventually became the Islamic terrorist regime of Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations) and it is indeed a part of Batman becoming more stable after overcoming the trauma of Todd’s demise.

For those who still find Robin as an unbelievable teenage crime fighter simply because of his youth, there are young gangsters in this tale that symbolically are the opposites of Batman’s sidekick. This was Chuck Dixon’s way of reminding people that there are indeed teenage criminals or youth gangs that exist around the world. Such young criminals or abusers still exist to this day and Robin’s status as a teenage crime fighter is clearly justified.

As a standalone tale, this comic book is pretty good and there is clear coordination between Chuck Dixon and Tom Lyle who did a fine job visualizing the script. Lyle’s art has this fine balance visualizing character development scenes, transition scenes and dynamic action. Historically, Lyle went on to draw the Robin II and Robin III mini-series for DC Comics before moving to Marvel Comics to work on Spider-Man comic books. In this very comic book, you can see how talented Lyle really was on illustrations.

Conclusion

*Batman and Robin in an early scene in this comic book. Pay attention to the details.*

Even though I am not a fan of Robin, I can say that the Dixon-Lyle duo succeeded in making Robin #1 (1991) a really entertaining and engaging read. It definitely is a strong start to a Robin mini-series and also serves as a defining moment for Batman’s sidekick who also got modernized at the time.

Overall, Robin #1 (1991) is recommended.

#1 You, Me and the Movies React to Cloak & Dagger (1984) – As some of you readers might know already, I enjoyed the 1984 movie Cloak & Dagger (starring Henry Thomas) and I also liked playing the arcade game that appeared in it as a fictional Atari 5200 game. When it comes to retro gaming, the film strongly resonates with gamers who were old enough to have seen it and played games related with Atari on console and arcades in the 1980s. As such, it is not surprising to see that there are pretty few movie reaction videos of Cloak & Dagger on YouTube. To my personal delight, You, Me and the Movies posted a reaction video of the film and it is entertaining to watch!

#2 Minty Comedic Arts’ Exclusive Interview with Superboy TV star Gerard Christopher – If you were old enough to have seen the live-action Superboy series on TV a long time ago, you would remember that actor Gerard Christopher replaced John Newton as the star. Recently, Minty Comedic Arts posted his exclusive interview with Christopher (who played Superboy in over 70 episodes) and it is not just fun to watch but also surprising and insightful. At the same time, there is a lot to learn and discover from what Gerard Christopher revealed. That said, I encourage you to watch the video below.

#3 Yakisoba in Aichi Prefecture, Japan – I enjoy the taste of Yakisoba which is Japanese noodle stir-fried dish and it is often available in Japanese restaurants in the land of the rising sun as well in other parts of the world. In Aichi Prefecture, there is a family-owned restaurant that specializes in yakisoba. The dedicated cooking, careful processes and sound business management the food joint achieved resulted in a loyal customer base. There is a lot to learn and enjoy from the video below.

#4 Street Fighter II Is Unfair to Gamers? – Here is something that must be seen. Remember how intensely popular Street Fighter II and its updated versions were back in the 1990s? #5 The Death of Criticism with Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Let me ask you this…if the so-called professional movie critics and online influencers unanimously give high praise to a big-budget movie designed to make a lot of money, do you let the critical acclaim influence you into watching it and adjusting your personal standards on judging new movies? In his recent video, Ranting for Vengeance shared a warning about the death of criticism over Spider-Man: Brand New Day which opened with massive commercial success backed with acclaim from the media and a variety of personalities online. By today’s standards, there are many millions of people who got oriented with Spider-Man without ever reading the classic comic books, and there are those who use Spider-Man movies as their main references. What is telling, however, is how some people lowered their standards on judging new movies as a whole. To learn more, watch Ranting with Vengeance’s video below and pay attention to the details.

#6 Assorted Casino (1995) Reaction Videos – I missed out on Martin Scorsese’s 1995 film Casino during its theatrical run and I saw it on home video some years later. Loosely based on real-life events that happened in Las Vegas, the movie was very good with its presentation and the stylized approach on explaining the details regarding casinos and related businesses controlled by criminals. As such, it is not surprising that a lot of movie reaction videos of it were posted on YouTube and I found the most entertaining ones among them for you all to enjoy.

#7 Game Developers Who Went Woke And Ruined The Gaming Industry – I have been playing video games since I was a little boy. This current console gaming generation has been very disappointing and I can say that it is very disgusting that state of gaming deteriorated a lot over the past several years as many game developers hired Leftist activists (the woke, transgendered, social justice warriors, LGBTQ extremists, rabid feminists, racist minority members and other undesirable people) and let them make new video games that reflected their ugly agenda. A few days ago in the City of Muntinlupa, a tenant in the Park Trade Centre building in Barangay Ayala Alabang received a bomb threat which caused a disturbance and alerted the local police, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

An office in Barangay Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa, received a bomb threat on Monday, Aug. 10, prompting a police investigation.

At 2:29 p.m., the administrator of a tenant firm on the fourth floor of the Park Trade Centre building on Investment Drive received an email claiming explosives had been planted on the premises.

The building’s security immediately alerted the Muntinlupa police.

Personnel from the Station EOD and Canine Unit (SECU) arrived at 3:35 p.m. to investigate. They conducted interviews and a threat assessment before carrying out a paneling operation, or search sweep, across different areas of the office.

By 4:10 p.m., the team declared the office clear of explosives or hazardous materials.

Vietnam Attracts 416,000 Visitors From The Philippines During First 7 Months Of 2026

Among the fourteen million foreign tourists Vietnam attracted during the first seven months of 2026 are visitors from the Philippines totaling 416,000, according to report by VnExpress. The authorities have described the Philippines as having the biggest increase among Southeast Asian markets.

The 416,000 of Philippine visitors is significant as there were over 480,000 Filipinos who visited Vietnam in the entire year of 2025. It is recalled that Filipino interest in visiting Vietnam has been strong and the governments of the two nations agreed to cooperate on tourism and air connectivity. As a tourist destination, the Philippines has been very weak attracting only 5.94 foreign tourists in 2025. Vietnam attracted over 21 million foreign tourists that same year.

The number of visitors from the Philippines to Vietnam jumped 63.6% year-on-year between January and July to 416,000, the biggest increase among Southeast Asian markets.

In the region, there were huge increases also in the number of arrivals from Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They increased by 40.8%, 31%, 27.3%, and 21.6%, according to the General Statistics Office.

The tourism industry attributed the jump in the number of visitors from Southeast Asia to a rapidly expanding flight network and growing demand for intra-regional travel.

Indonesia AirAsia launched a direct flight connecting Bali (Denpasar) and Da Nang on March 20 while Vietjet launched a direct route connecting Da Nang and Jakarta on April 29.

In March, Philippines AirAsia launched a new direct route linking Da Nang with Manila in the Philippines.

47 World War II Veterans Honored In Muntinlupa City

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, forty-seven World War II veterans were honored during a special ceremony hosted by the Mayor at the Museo ng Muntinlupa, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

Forty-seven Filipino World War II veterans were conferred the US Congressional Gold Medal in a ceremony held in Muntinlupa City.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon hosted the awarding ceremony at the Museo ng Muntinlupa.

“Ito ang pinakamataas na civilian honor mula sa U.S. Congress. So aside from their pension, our veterans are also given this tribute dahil sa kanilang kabayanihan (This is the highest civilian honor from the US Congress. So aside from their pension, our veterans are also given this tribute for their heroism),” he said.

The ceremony was attended by Lt. Col. Roy Stone, chief of staff of the Joint U.S. Military Assistance Group to the Philippines (JUSMAG-PHIL), and Senior Undersecretary Irineo Espino of the Department of National Defense.

They were joined by Muntinlupa Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, Usec. Reynaldo Mapagu of the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), and Krista Staley, assistant veterans service center manager of the Manila Regional Benefits Office of the US Department of Veterans Affairs.

The forty-seven posthumous awardees included Lieutenant Colonel Iluminado G. Vallejo Sr., Lieutenant Colonel Vicente O. Novales, Lieutenant Colonel Luis D. Vinoya, First Lieutenant Benjamin B. Gloria, Second Lieutenant Arsenio F. Librado Sr., Second Lieutenant Desiderio D. Malabuen, Second Lieutenant Francisco S. De Guzman, Master Sergeant Gregorio C. Nolasco, Master Sergeant Juan R. Peñamante, Technical Sergeant Pascual M. Tampil, Technical Sergeant Francisco D. De Leon, Staff Sergeant Alfredo F. Del Monte Sr., Sergeant Celso A. Escosia, Sergeant Manuel G. Abundancia Sr., Sergeant Marcelo S. Encarnacion, Sergeant Canuto G. Argame, Sergeant Victor S. Santos, Sergeant Victorio D. Montillano, and Sergeant Juan B. Gacutan.

They also included Corporal Sisenando E. De Castro, Corporal Sinfroso M. Pili, Corporal Glicerio R. Revillame, Corporal Jesus H. Gegato, Corporal Maximo E. Formaran, Corporal Damian P. Ogoc, Corporal Florentino D. Vargas, Private First Class Candido A. Luna, Private First Class Leopoldo V. Salavante, Private First Class Pedro R. Magbanua, Private First Class Regalado C. Ruiz, Private First Class Felix U. Castro, Private First Class Patrocinio G. Viñalon, Private First Class Severino A. Gasmin Sr., Private First Class Felicitos A. Lubrio, and Private First Class Bayani V. Gutierrez.

Other honorees were Private Paulo P. Damasco, Private Joaquin T. Taleon, Private Miguel P. Lopena, Private Tagumpay M. Villadolid, Private Romualdo N. Villanueva, Private Mariano N. Millama, Private Santos G. Orellana, Private Emeterio B. Pacate, Private Sixto M. Garbo, Private Uliran A. Ortiz, Private Igmedio V. Paliok, and Private Mamerto R. Pagkalinawan.

Stone said the US Congressional Gold Medal is a profound expression of America’s gratitude to Filipino World War II veterans for their courage, sacrifice, and service.
