#3 The Wholesome Hotel In Las Vegas – The first time I ever visited Las Vegas was in 1989. I was only 13-years-old back then and our family stayed in Circus Circus Hotel and Casino. Even though the hotel had gambling joints within, I still noticed how family-friendly the place was as it had an indoor circus venue, circus games, makeshift museums and a video arcade (where I played many classic arcade games). If there were any significant changes that happened through the decades, it would be the presence of an indoor amusement park with rides which reflects the hotel’s focus on attracting families and tourists who have limited budgets. In the history of video games, the first PlayStation console was rich with RPGs in the late 1990s. Some of them turned out to be rushed and incomplete. Las Piñas City Government Receives New Training Equipment From TESDA

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the City Government (specifically the Las Piñas City Manpower Training Center) received from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) new training tools, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Mayor April Aguilar led the ceremonial signing of the deed with TESDA officials.

The Las Piñas City Manpower Training Center (LPCMTC) received new tools and equipment following the signing of a Deed of Donation from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)–NCR and the TESDA Muntinlupa District.

Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar led the ceremonial signing with TESDA-NCR Regional Director Angelina Carreon, TESDA MuntiParLas Tapat District Director, TESDA-NCR Assistant Regional Director Gerardo Mercado, and LPCMTC head Engineer Noel Cuevas.

Aguilar said the event marked another milestone in strengthening the city’s technical and vocational training programs.

She said that various tool kits and equipment were awarded for use in LPCMTC’s training courses. These include equipment for assembling electronic products, solar night and post lamps, automotive servicing, cookery, bread making, and servicing consumer and industrial electronics modules and systems.

The mayor added that additional tools for preparing hot and cold meals were also provided.

Aguilar said that with improved training facilities and complete equipment, Las Piñeros are now better equipped to gain employment or start their own livelihoods.

Parañaque Shooting Incident Suspect Apprehended

After doing a 48-hour manhunt, the local police officers finally apprehended the suspect behind the shooting incident that happened inside a local community which resulted in two fatalities and four people injured, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

Police arrested the alleged gunman in a fatal shooting at a condominium basketball court in Parañaque City, which killed two men and critically wounded four others, after a 48-hour manhunt.

The suspect, identified as William, 59, a resident of Barangay Marcelo Green, Parañaque City, was nabbed at around 8:30 p.m. in a condominium unit in Barangay Moonwalk.

According to Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo, the suspect shot dead Edwin, 57, and Arjay, 29, and wounded four others who were then playing basketball. Recovered from the suspect were two 9mm pistols, multiple magazines, and ammunition.

Police discovered during investigation that the suspect had a homicide case in Taguig City in 2012, and a warrant of arrest had been issued against him by a Regional Trial Court in June 2023.

Probers learned that the suspect had argued with one of the fatalities and the wounded victims three months ago.

According to a report from Parañaque City Police chief Col. Nicolas Pinon, the suspect reportedly went down from his unit, entered through the main gate of the basketball court, and started firing shots at a group of men playing basketball.

Pinon said that based on CCTV footage obtained by the police, the group of men scampered in different directions while two victims were critically wounded and later died from bullet wounds.

The city police chief said the suspect exited through the main gate of the basketball court and fled on foot toward a mall after the shooting.

The four injured victims were rushed to a hospital after the incident and were reportedly in unstable condition.

Chinese National Arrested In Batangas For Posing As A Filipino

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apprehended in Batangas a Chinese national who posed as a Filipino citizen, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. The suspect has a history of acquiring Philippine passports and a driver’s license in the country.

A foreigner has been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Batangas for posing as a Filipino and for “fraudulently acquiring” Philippine documents.

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony M. Viado presented before the media on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the arrested foreigner who was identified as Chinese national Zhi Ling Guan. He said that Zhi admitted he is not a Filipino.

Viado said that Zhi also uses the aliases Shis Nengyuan and Mike Sy. The “fake” Filipino was arrested last Feb. 20 at the Batangas port, he also said.

Viado said that the Chinese national was using fraudulently his acquired Philippine passports and driver’s license using the name Mark Sy.

“Philippine citizenship is not a commodity that can be fabricated or acquired through deception,” Viado declared.

He warned: “Any foreign national who falsely claims to be Filipino and manipulates our systems to secure official documents will face arrest, detention, and deportation.”

He said the BI acted on the information it received from the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) which sought the verification of the identity of the person.

“Biometric checks and inter-agency verification established that the fingerprints appearing in identification documents under the name ‘Mike Sy’ matched those of Zhi Ling Guan, a Chinese national,” he also said.

Better than Streaming: Do You Have Ben-Hur 4K Blu-Ray In Your Collection?

Welcome back fellow geeks, Blu-ray collectors and movie buffs!

I previously blogged about what was back then the upcoming release of the 4K Blu-ray of the classic and multi-awarded movie Ben-Hur (1959). In recent times, my copy of Ben-Hur 4K Blu-ray arrived and having replayed the movie using my Xbox Series X console, I can say that I had a grand experience watching it and it looks better than ever!

To begin with, my set came with two 4K Blu-ray discs (one disc with 100 Gigabytes and the other with 66 Gigabytes in capacity) that carried the movie in two parts in native 4K visuals (there was an intermission in the film itself). The other disc (50 Gigabytes) contained mainly the special features and extras which should delight the long-time fans and moviegoers who want to learn more about the movie, who was who and what the film’s history was about.

*This is the first 4K Blu-ray disc which contains the first portion of the movie of 2 hours and 20 minutes. Behind it is the 2nd 4K Blu-ray disc and the special features-only disc (green).*

With regards to my personal viewing experience, I can say that Ben-Hur looks very stunning in native 4K visuals. With the 4K resolution, I was able to spot some tiny details I did not notice before. The colors look more vibrant compared to what I saw on DVD and on cable TV, and the same can be said about the clarity (the lighting and contrasting were adjusted with better visuals in mind). There is also a boost on the sharpness.

I did not spot any visual blemishes and the all the way until the very end, the film looked more lively than ever before. That said, the famous chariot scene is at its greatest in native 4K. Not only that, the great cinematography captured by the team of director William Wyler also looks better than ever. For a preview of how much an improvement Ben-Hur 4K Blu-ray is over the previous Blu-ray disc release, watch the video below and look closely at the still images compared.

Adding more impact to the visuals, unsurprisingly, are the very solid performances of Charlton Heston as Judah Ben-Hur, Stephen Boyd as the antagonistic Messala of the evil Roman Empire, Haya Harareet as Esther and Hugh Griffith as the loud Arab to name a few. The actors’ performances deserve your attention, especially when it comes to following the story and remembering the personal directions each character took and how they developed over time.

It is now safe to say that the visuals of Ben-Hur 4K Blu-ray are truly excellent and the extra stuff provide good enough value for those who want more from the movie. I am very happy with Ben-Hur 4K Blu-ray and I will replay it again soon. Viewing the classic movie in native 4K and with lively colors is a grand experience which streaming cannot match! It is easily one of the very best movies in my 4K Blu-ray collection now!

Two Suspects Arrested In Parañaque City For Selling Fake Luxury Bags

Recently in the city of Parañaque, two individuals were arrested by the local police for selling fake luxury bags, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin. The law enforcers responded to a complaint filed by a victim.

Police arrested two suspects in an entrapment operation for allegedly selling fake luxury bags on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 26.

The suspects were identified as Glen, 25, and Imel, 29, both residents of Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City.

They were arrested at a dining establishment along Aseana Avenue in Barangay Tambo during an entrapment operation conducted by members of the Station Intelligence Section and the Investigation and Detective Management Section, in coordination with the AFP Army Intelligence Regiment.

Police said the arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by a 29-year-old call center agent, who reported that the suspects sold her a fake “Birkin” bag from Hermès worth P700,000 last Feb. 7.

The victim told police that the bag was confirmed to be counterfeit after it underwent validation and authentication.

Authorities conducted the entrapment operation after the victim reported that the suspects contacted her again, offering to sell a “Kelly 25” bag from Hermès worth P950,000.

During the arrest, police recovered from the suspects a white Kelly 25 bag and a black Kelly 25 bag, both branded as Hermès, as well as items bearing brands such as Chanel and Coach. A magnifying loupe glass was also seized.

Authorities likewise confiscated several mobile devices, including an iPhone 13, a Samsung Galaxy 11, a Tecno Go Spark 2, and an iPhone 6, along with P2,000 in cash and 98 pieces of boodle money.

“Muntinlupeño First” Emphasized In Mayor Biazon’s Speech

During the 31^st City Anniversary celebration of Muntinlupa City, the concept of “Muntinlupeño First” was emphasized by Mayor Ruffy Biazon during his State of the City Address held on March 2, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon emphasized the principle of “Muntinlupeño First” in his State of the City Address (SOCA) during the celebration of Muntinlupa’s 31st Cityhood Anniversary on March 2.

For Biazon, the phrase was not a rhetoric but a governing standard, a discipline that requires every government decision to begin with one question: “Makakabuti ba ito sa Muntinlupeño?” (Will this be good for Muntinlupeño?).”

He said public funds are sacred, that policy must be driven by evidence rather than expediency, and that true progress is built on systems, not personalities.

“When we put the Muntinlupeño first, we do not merely move forward. We move forward — together,” he said.

Strengthening systems – In his address, Mayor Biazon listed the achievements and outlined the city government’s continuing priorities in health, education, livelihood, environment, social justice, peace and order, and infrastructure, underscoring that disciplined governance produces measurable outcomes.

In healthcare, his administration continues to focus on maternal and child health, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, alongside expanded nutrition interventions and intensified immunization efforts.

At the city-run Ospital ng Muntinlupa, improvements are ongoing. The Emergency Room has been renovated, while the Out-Patient Department now operates in a new building designed to improve patient flow and comfort. Renovations are also in the pipeline for the patient rooms, dialysis center, laboratory facilities, operating rooms, and pharmacy.

“These are not cosmetic changes. They are deliberate investments in quality, safety, and dignity in healthcare delivery,” said Biazon .

Investing in education and local opportunity – Biazon reaffirmed the city government’s commitment to sustaining one of the largest local scholarship investments in the country, alongside strengthened technical-vocational training and industry partnerships aimed at linking education directly to employment.

“We are not only producing graduates. We are cultivating professionals. Opportunity must not depend on circumstance, it must be built into the system,” he said.

In employment, he reiterated the principle behind the 70–30 Local Employment Ordinance, which mandates that at least 70 percent of a company’s rank-and-file workforce be composed of Muntinlupeño residents.

“Muntinlupeño First remains clear. We protect local workers — but we also adapt responsibly to ensure that opportunity continues to come home,” he said.

Recognizing partners in progress – As part of the cityhood anniversary program, the city government recognized the top 10 taxpayers, whose contributions help fund scholarships, healthcare services, infrastructure, and social protection programs.

“Without you, we would not be able to implement programs that uplift hundreds of thousands of Muntinlupeños. Your contribution translates into real services, real opportunities, and real impact,” said Biazon.

New Debit Mastercard Launched By BPI

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) has launched a new debit Mastercard made from 100% recycled PVC-free plastic, as the Ayala-led lender boosts its sustainable banking efforts.

The new card will be available for free for clients who open an account through the bank’s branches and for existing clients with cards nearing expiry or are already due for renewal. Clients who switch to the new card will be charged a P200 replacement fee.

The card—which features a curved notch at the bottom left corner—can be requested through the BPI app or BPI Online, and may be available for pickup at the preferred branch.

“Reimagining the BPI Debit Mastercard to become an eco-friendly card is a testament to BPI’s commitment to its values of sustainability and innovation,” BPI Mass Retail head Jenny Lacerna said in an emailed statement.

“By using sustainable materials for our card, we hope to make sustainable behavior the default option for everyone,” she added.

Las Piñas City Government To Pursue Legal Action Versus Online Shopping Platforms Over The Selling Of Fake Friendship Route Stickers

The Las Piñas city government has intensified its crackdown on the illegal sale and use of counterfeit Friendship Route stickers and is preparing to pursue legal action against three online platforms.

Las Piñas City Mayor April Aguilar said the three online platforms were reportedly openly selling counterfeit Friendship Route stickers.

Aguilar stressed that legitimate Friendship Route stickers are distributed free of charge to residents of Las Piñas City.

She warned that selling or using fake stickers is a violation of City Ordinance No. 715-06 and may result in fines and possible imprisonment.

Under the ordinance, violators will be fined P500 for the first offense, P1,000 for the second offense, and P3,000 for succeeding offenses.

Those found violating other provisions of the ordinance may face a fine of up to P5,000 or imprisonment of up to six months, or both.

While the Manila Bulletin report did not mention the names of the online shopping platforms, the City Government’s official announcement explicitly mentioned Shopee, Lazada and Facebook Marketplace.
