Commercenter, the nice sprawling shopping mall located in Filinvest City in Alabang, Muntinlupa, recently announced via social media that its 4-screen cinemas will be closing on March 15, 2025 and still they promised something new is coming.

While our curtains will officially close on March 15, this isn’t the end. Something exciting is on the way to Commercenter and we can’t wait to share it with you. Stay tuned! 😉✨

For transparency, posted below is the screenshot of one of the images that came with the social media post of Commercenter.

For the newcomers reading this, the cinemas of Commercenter opened in the late part of 2014 and its cinemas each had nice and comfortable seats with a good sound system and screen. Each cinema has over a hundred seats to accommodate moviegoers.

I myself saw lots of movies at Commercenter from 2014 to 2023 (note: I have not seen movies inside any cinema for 2024). While I cannot recall all the films I saw inside the cinemas of the sprawling mall, I saw the following there: Sound of Freedom (read my movie review by clicking here), Wonder Woman (my review here), The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, Write About Love (my review here), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Deadpool, Deadpool 2, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, X-Men: Apocalypse, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Aquaman, Terminator: Dark Fate, The Batman, Jurassic World, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (my review here) to name some.

*The last movie I saw at Commercenter was Sound of Freedom.*

In my experience, watching movies inside Commercenter was fun and comfortable. The mall is a short drive away from home and there are nice restaurants and stores inside. After watching a movie, I could enjoy a meal at Sigekiya Ramen or at The Black Pig or at Akrotiri, have coffee at The Coffee Syndicate or at The Bingsu. Or buy a snack at ASSI Fresh Plaza.

As such, it is really saddening to learn that Commercenter’s cinemas will be closing down soon. I can only speculate that not enough moviegoers in this post-pandemic age could support the cinemas of the mall and not enough private groups booked the cinemas for their events or gatherings. It seems to me that streaming – which became the new standard of watching movies since the COVID-19 pandemic – is a factor as well. Lastly, Commercenter charged P400 per ticket for foreign movies which is quite expensive for local moviegoers.

By adding Commercenter’s closing cinemas to the already closed old original cinemas of nearby Festival Mall, that would combine to a total of fourteen closed screens/cinemas. Festival Mall still has its 4-screen modern cinemas while Alabang Town Center’s cinemas are still operating. Without Commercenter as a movie venue, people living within Filinvest City and in the nearby communities will have to visit ATC and Festival Mall for the movie theater experience within Alabang.

Man arrested in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City, for illegal sale of firearms

Very recently in Parañaque City, local police officers pulled off a successful entrapment operation in Barangay BF Homes that resulted in the arrest of man over his engagement in the illegal sale of firearms, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

A man engaged in illegal sale of firearms was arrested by members of the Southern Police District (SPD) in an entrapment operation in Parañaque City on March 4.

The suspect, identified as alias “Enrique,” 45, a resident of Sampaloc Site, Parañaque City, was collared at around 11:30 p.m. in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.

Acting on the report of a regular confidential informant, the District Special Operation Unit (DSOU), in coordination with the District Intelligence Division (DID) and the Parañaque City Police Station, conducted a buy-bust operation against the suspect.

The police seized from the suspect a .45-caliber pistol with magazine loaded with five live ammunition placed in a black sling bag.

COMELEC declares that candidates are not required to attend election debates

As the May 2025 National and Local Elections slowly get closer, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) declared that candidates are not required to attend debates, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said participation of the national and local candidates in election debates is not mandatory.

“Requiring candidates to attend debates is not yet provided in the guidelines as we are still studying its constitutionality,” Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said in an interview. He said Comelec will not organize debates for the May 12 mid-term elections.

“The Comelec is not conducting these debates, but other groups and organizations. That is really up to them,” he said.

The poll body, however, said organizers must make sure that all candidates are invited to participate in the election debates.

“Not even one candidate should be excluded. Everyone must be invited,” he said.

Suspect arrested in Parañaque City for robbing a woman in another city

Recently in Parañaque City, law enforcers apprehended a man at his home in Barangay Baclaran for committing robbery in Caloocan City, according to a Philippine Daily Inquirer news report.

A male robbery suspect was arrested in his Parañaque City home after supposedly stealing P2,820 from a 24-year-old female victim in Caloocan City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced.

In a report on Tuesday evening, the NCRPO said the suspect held up the victim and her companion by brandishing a firearm and blocking their path along Santo Cristo Street in Barangay 187, Caloocan City at 5:30 a.m. on Feb. 24.

The victim reported the incident to the Caloocan City Police Station, providing a detailed description of the suspect and positively identifying the suspect upon presentation of a scanned photo of the latter.

The suspect had previous cases across Caloocan City, Quezon City and Bulacan province, the NCRPO said.

A follow-up operation by a cyber patrol unit tracker team led to his arrest at 7:20 p.m. also on Feb. 24 in his residence in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City, where authorities also discovered a hand grenade.

Welcome back my readers, YouTube viewers and all others who followed this series of articles focused on YouTube videos worth watching. Have you been searching for something fun or interesting to watch on YouTube? Do you feel bored right now and you crave for something to see on the world’s most popular online video destination?

I recommend you check out the following topics and the related videos I found.

#1 The Beastmaster revisited – I find it curious that there are not too many movie reaction videos about the 1982 fantasy film The Beastmaster starring Marc Singer. The film was not a big hit in cinemas but it was viewed by millions of viewers on home video and cable TV which resulted in a dedicated following. When it comes to searching for video reviews of the movie, there are more available for viewing on YouTube. For the Beastmaster fans reading this and for those who enjoy the fantasy genre, I posted below a reaction video by You, Me and the Movies, and a video review by Decker Shado.

#2 Misha Petrov’s inspiring testimony – Being a Leftist is not only a terrible way of living as it includes living with a very distorted view of reality, rebelling against family and order, and being twisted. YouTuber Misha Petrov was once a Leftist and she eventually left the Satanic Left to be liberated. Very clearly, being liberal means being foolish and wokeness is a disease that truly ruins those trapped by it. Learn from Misha Petrov’s inspiring testimony in the PragerU video below.

#3 Do not be fooled by socialist influencers – I like watching the videos of John Stossel as there are often informative and engaging. Recently, Stossel posted a video about what the many socialist influencers get wrong. It is a reminder that no matter how powerful the words spoken and no matter how unique the presentations looked like, socialists do not want you to know the truth that does not back up their claims. That being said, I encourage you to watch Stossel’s explanatory video below.

#4 Why the playable hero of Oblivion starts inside a prison – If there is anything consequential about the release of the current Xbox-exclusive fantasy role-playing game (RPG) Avowed, it is the renewed public interest in two well established games that have similarities with the Obsidian-developed game – The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. My previous blog post had a comparative video featuring Avowed and Oblivion. More on Bethesda’s 2006 RPG, it is remembered that the hero gamers got to play as started inside a prison whenever they begin the single-player campaign. As to why the playable hero is already behind bars, watch the analytical video below from YouTuber A Bard’s Ballad.

#5 VKunia and Ashleigh Burton’s respective Captain America: The Winter Soldier reaction videos – Back in 2014, I saw Captain America: The Winter Soldier on opening day in a local cinema here in the Philippines and it was a very thrilling and engaging experience. Back then, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was still expanding its lore during the Phase 2 stage, and the Captain America movie itself was really a superhero tale told in the form of an espionage thriller. It was a bold creative direction that really paid off for Marvel Studios. When it comes to the YouTube reaction videos of it available, I find the ones from VKunia and Ashleigh Burton the most entertaining. If you have not seen the movie yet, I urge you to watch it first. Otherwise, enjoy the videos below.

#6 PatmanQC examines R-Type – When it comes to sci-fi themed, 2D side-scrolling shooters in video games, Japan a lot of them and arguably the most popular game franchise related to the sub-genre is Konami’s Gradius. There is, however, another sci-fi 2D side-scrolling shooter series that started in Japanese arcades – R-Type. Like Gradius, R-Type went on to have sequels and many of its games were released on many platforms through the decades. To find out how R-Type started and what were the inspirations behind it, watch PatmanQC’s in-depth video below.

#7 Baywatch revisited by Minty Comedic Arts – Back in 1989, Baywatch was launched on television and it went on to become a massive hit with TV viewers around the world. The series about attractive lifeguards working at beaches lasted more than ten seasons and ultimately became a pop culture phenomenon. It was also the sexiest show on TV during its time. Of course, there are lots of interesting details about the series and I urge you to watch the trivia video of Minty Comedic Arts below.

#8 Palestinian clerics openly call for genocide against Jews – As I mentioned before, the Palestinians have stake in the land of Israel and they as a people have destroyed their credibility a long time ago by following the their terrorist leaders and brainwashing children to hate the Jewish people. In recent times, religious leaders of the Palestinians used sermons calling for the extermination of the Jews. That being said, it is not surprising that the mainstream news media (which have not only a liberal bias but also Islamo-Leftist beliefs) does not even bother to cover the recent Palestinian campaign of hate targeting the Jewish people and Israel. While those corrupted news media outlets are staying away, CBN News covered the very issue. Watch their news video below. Keep on standing in support of Israel and push back against evil acts of the Palestinian terrorists and the wicked Palestinian Authority.

UBS Investment Bank Global Research economist sees Philippine economy growing by 5.9% this year

A senior economist of the UBS Investment Bank Global Research stated that the economy of the Philippines will grow better this year by 5.9%, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article. In 2024, the economy grew by 5.6%.

Philippine economic growth is expected to accelerate this year on the back of higher investments and consumption, an economist of UBS Investment Bank Global Research said.

In a virtual briefing on Wednesday, UBS Investment Bank Global Research Senior ASEAN and Asia Economist Grace Lim said the Philippine economy is projected to grow by 5.9 percent this year from 5.6 percent in 2024.

“We see an improving growth outlook for the Philippines,” Lim said. “The underlying positive growth delta is driven by domestic demand as both investment and consumption accelerate in 2025.“

She said private investments would recover gradually as financial conditions become less restrictive and consumer sentiment gradually picks up. Solid labor income growth and the easing of food inflation will also help boost consumption growth.

“Consumption, as well, is likely to be positive amidst the improving fundamentals and the resilient labor market, which, I should add, is one of the most significant support for Philippines demand,” she said.

Lim said government spending and the continued growth in services exports would also support economic growth.

“What is also often underappreciated is the bright spot of services exports, especially in the BPO sector,” she said.

Lim said she expects the country’s BPO sector to remain resilient this year.

Higher tariffs – Asked about the impact of tariff trade escalation on the Philippine economy, Lim said the Philippines is in a “rather defensive market in the event of potential trade tariff escalation.”

“That’s because the Philippines is primarily domestic-oriented with investment as a percentage of GDP 23 percent, consumption over 70 percent. So not very trade-exposed,” she said.

She pointed out that in the case of trade tariff escalation, the Philippine peso could also be a relative outperformer in the region.

“That said, we do think that if tariffs are universal, then obviously there could be weaker prospects for currencies in general, but even in that scenario, it would not be a very big depreciation,” she said.

NBI arrests 20 foreigners in Parañaque City for illegal POGO operation

Recently in Parañaque City, elements of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested twenty foreigners who were caught operating a Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) at an Aseana City building, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday announced the arrest of 20 foreign nationals operating an illegal Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub in Parañaque City.

In a statement on Friday, the NBI said the suspects were arrested in an operation on Feb. 25 at Aseana 3, West Tower, 8912 Avenue, following a complaint of the wife of a Chinese national working for a POGO company operating under the trade name “LWE.”

She alleged that her husband, who worked as a customer service representative, was being held against his will by his employers.

During the operation, agents of the NBI Special Task Force uncovered a fully operational online scam hub.

The arrested foreigners have been charged before the city prosecutor’s office for violating Section 4(b)(1) (Social Engineering Schemes) of Republic Act (RA) 12010, or the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act (AFASA) in relation to RA 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

The City of Las Piñas, through the City Health Office, continued its commitment to accessible healthcare by holding another Health and Wellness Caravan on Tuesday, February 18, at the Bernabe Covered Court in Pulanglupa Uno. Over 700 residents availed themselves of the free health services provided during the event.

The caravan offered a comprehensive range of services, including medical consultations, FBS/RBS screening, cholesterol examinations, chest X-rays, ECG, dental services, and nutrition counseling. In addition, residents benefited from risk assessments for non-communicable diseases, pneumococcal vaccinations for senior citizens, mobile birth registration, and assistance with Green Card and PhilHealth registration.

The event was made possible through the efforts of the City Health Office, under the leadership of Dr. Juliana Gonzalez, who emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare and the city’s proactive approach in addressing community health concerns. She highlighted that bringing healthcare services directly to the barangays ensures that more residents can access essential medical care and health education.

Muntinlupa City declared as smart, sustainable and strong

This past weekend, the 30^th anniversary of the cityhood of Muntinlupa was celebrated with special activities. On the afternoon of March 1, Mayor Ruffy Biazon delivered his State of the City Address declaring Muntinlupa as a smart, sustainable and strong city, according to the Manila Bulletin news report.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon said Muntinlupa has become a smart, sustainable and strong city with the use of technology and innovation, and solutions that maximize resources.

“Today we celebrate the 30th year since our home town became a city. Today we can say that Muntinlupa has transformed into a city that is Smart, Sustainable, and Strong,” said Biazon in his State of the City Address during the 30th Muntinlupa cityhood anniversary celebration on March 1.

He said, “Smart because we are utilizing technology and innovation to make the government more efficient in the use of resources, faster in the delivery of services, more streamlined in its processes and make decisions based on data gathered through its systems.”

The mayor said Muntinlupa is “sustainable because we adopt solutions that help us maximize our use of resources but still remain mindful of the needs of future generations. Strong because we remain resilient in the face of calamities, crisis, and challenges that put to the test our determination to survive and succeed.”

Muntinlupa became a highly-urbanized city with the signing of Republic Act 7926 on March 1, 1995.

In his speech, he mentioned what the city government has done since he assumed office in 2022 and the plans that will be implemented under his 7K Agenda.

“While we have come a long way from what was described as a sleepy town to a bustling, modern, highly urbanized city that it is now, the character of its people remains rooted in the traditional values of caring for the community, goodwill towards each other, and earning your keep through hard work,” he said.

He added, “Coming at the heels of the successes of those who laid the city’s foundation, we ask ourselves: what else can we do to achieve greater accomplishments? We ask this not to just simply outdo those we followed, but more to push ourselves to break new ground, find new paths and create through innovation.”

Kaunlaran (Development) – Under his “Kaunlaran” agenda, the mayor envisions Muntinlupa to be a “Model Smart Urban Village” of the region.

“We crafted our vision to visualize a future that we want for our people. But as I quote during my previous addresses – ‘The best way to predict the future is to create it,’” he said.

This year, he said, the city government is updating the Comprehensive Land and Water Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance, which “will provide a framework for the City’s physical development, and the smart and efficient allocation of land and water resources for various uses.”

The city government will implement key e-governance projects, including the Citizens’ Database and Muntizen ID, “a city-wide database and unified ID Card System to record and monitor the city’s population and migration information, as well as the provision and availment of City Government’s social, educational and medical benefits to our citizens.”

The city will also have the Centralized Geographic Information System (CGIS), “a software to map and digitalize geographic data of the City.”

Improving the MUNCONNECT, Muntinlupa’s public wi-fi system located in schools, business establishments and government facilities, is also being planned.

Biazon said the city government’s efforts were recognized through various awards including the Seal of Good Local Governance for the third consecutive year and ranking fourth among all highly-urbanized cities in the country in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index.

He thanked the business sector as the city government surpassed its business tax collection target in 2024, reaching P2.4 billion.

“Through our programs on business permit registrations complimented by ‘Ease of Doing Business’ strategies, we made sure that Muntinlupa is a City that remains Business-Friendly and attractive for new and thriving investment opportunities,” he said.
