Security guard in Las Piñas City apprehended for frustrated homicide and violation of the gun ban

Some of you must have read my previous post about a security guard in Parañaque who got arrested. Something similar happened in Las Piñas City, this time it’s about a security guard who got apprehended for homicide and for violating the current ban on guns, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

A security guard was arrested in violation of the Commission on Election’s (Comelec) gun ban and for shooting a man he was arguing with in Las Pinas City early Friday morning (April 8).

Police identified the suspect as Pablito Baculba, 56, a resident of Las Pinas City. He is now confined at the Las Pinas police custodial facility and was charged for violation of the Comelec’s gun ban and frustrated homicide.

The victim, identified as Michael Joquino, was rushed to the Las Pinas District Hospital for a gunshot wound in the stomach.

Police said the incident happened at around 3:00 a.m. at STI Building located along Abel Nosce St., BF Resort Village, Barangay Talon Dos, Las Pinas City.

The police said a heated argument ensued between Baculba and the victim that led to the shooting incident.

A witness reported the incident to the Las Pinas police Talon Sub-Station that led to the arrest of the suspect.

The above report ended stating that a .38 caliber revolver with four pieces of live ammunition and an empty shell were recovered by the police.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, what is your reaction about this latest development? Does this latest news make you feel uncomfortable about going out in public? Do you believe that the COMELEC’s gun ban is effective in keeping your local community safe?

Security guard apprehended in Parañaque City over the killing of a man who allegedly tried to steal a motorcycle

Recently there was an incident that happened within Parañaque City which involves shooting, chasing and death. The suspect here is a security guard who shot someone who allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the most recent report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

A 34-year-old security guard was arrested after he shot and killed an unidentified man who allegedly tried to steal his parked motorcycle in Paranaque City Monday morning, April 4.

Police identified the suspect as Edison Donato, a security guard of VICAN Security Services and resident of Barangay East Rembo, Makati City.

According to the police report, the incident happened around 8:40 a.m. in front of Baima Jiang KTV and Restaurant on Roxas Boulevard in Barangay Tambo.

Investigation showed the suspect was standing in front of the restaurant when he noticed the man allegedly trying to steal his parked motorcycle.

A delivery rider told police that he saw Donato chasing the alleged thief.

The witness said Donato tried to handcuff the unidentified thief but the latter tried to shoot the guard.

Donato in return took his service firearm and shot the man dead.

Members of the Paranaque City Police who were conducting routine patrol in the area arrested Donato.

Police recovered from the scene one .38-caliber revolver with three live ammunition and two spent shells, one improvised handgun, and one Yamaha Mio 125.

The security guard is now detained at the Paranaque police custodial facility pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.

The above report ended stating that the victim was “about 5’5” tall, skinny built, brown complexioned and has a devil skull tattoo on left wrist. He was wearing a white construction helmet, a black and white printed long sleeved shirt, a pair of black shorts and black construction safety shoes.”

A Look Back at Sludge #7 (1994)

Disclaimer: This is my original work with details sourced from reading the comic book and doing personal research. Anyone who wants to use this article, in part or in whole, needs to secure first my permission and agree to cite me as the source and author. Let it be known that any unauthorized use of this article will constrain the author to pursue the remedies under R.A. No. 8293, the Revised Penal Code, and/or all applicable legal actions under the laws of the Philippines.

Welcome back, superhero fans, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Ultraverse of Malibu Comics and examine one of its many stories told through an issue of the Sludge comic book series.

In my previous Sludge retro comic book review, the stakes were raised for Sludge and the city of New York as a new conflict started brewing that brought in two gangs along with the Pump and his own gang, and even mercenaries. Issue #6 was the start of a new multi-part storyline that Steve Gerber crafted and it encouraged re-reading the early issues of the Sludge series to understand the scope of the new conflict.

With those details laid down, here is a look back at Sludge #7, published by Malibu Comics in 1994 with a story written by Steve Gerber and drawn by Aaron Lopresti.

The cover.

Early story

The story begins with a man and a woman on bed. Their privacy gets interrupted when the Pump suddenly appears in frightening fashion. It turns out, Sludge was in the middle of a nightmare and even sees a frightening vision of Edna. He then makes his way through in the sewer.

One morning at the Eretz Shalom Cemetery, a police investigation is being conducted as the local authorities found several dead bodies as well as scorched ground, bodies fused together and a some odor. Shelley, the very determined reporter of the New York Daily Globe, tries to uncover details at the crime scene only to be interrupted by a detective named Quinn. In response to her question, Quinn admits they are just discovering things and trying to figure things out.

Suddenly a lady wearing a suit and necktie approaches them…

Quality

Avoiding the touch of Sludge is a must!

As far as storytelling goes, this tale is a very solid follow-up to the previous issue. While issue #6 showed the start of a big conflict involving three groups, this one shows the emotional and physical impact on the gang leaders (John Paul Marcello and the Dragon Fang) and the unrelenting pursuit of the Pump and his minions on wrecking down society by means of drug pushing and violence. In a way, this Ultraverse story daringly showed its own portrayal of illegal drugs and gang wars while also showing Sludge suffering more and getting even more desperate with his life. I should also state that there are scenes that added detective story and suspense vibes into the narrative.

It should be noted that at this point in the Sludge series, the titular character does some things here that would maker readers question his moves and his sanity, especially since the Pump (note: the Ultraverse’ very own Satan figure) keeps on tempting and manipulating him. Sludge, who was once a crooked cop when he was still human, clearly is vulnerable deep inside and he also is not resistant to the evil influences around him. Very notably, the story by Steve Gerber is strong enough to make me go on to read the next issue.

Conclusion

Shelley of the city newspaper at the scene of the crime.

Sludge #7 (1994) is the kind of comic book that will make you think deeply about the true nature of the titular character and why should you keep on reading each new comic book of this series when you learn that the said character is far from being heroic. The lines that separate good and evil is very blurred at this stage of the Sludge series. This is one clever and really engaging piece of work done by the Gerber-Lopresti team, and at the same time it is also one of the most intriguing Ultraverse tales ever told. That being said, the comic book’s concept is incidentally not ideal for readers who seek good-versus-evil conflicts that get resolved.

If you are seriously planning to buy an existing hard copy of Sludge #7 (1994) be aware that as of this writing, MileHighComics.com shows that the near-mint copy of the regular edition costs $16.

Overall, Sludge #7 (1994) is recommended.

Las Piñas City Government issues advisory about fake Friendship Route stickers and the scammers selling them

For those of you who heard about the recent developments about the Friendship Route stickers of the City of Las Piñas, be aware that the City Government declared that such stickers are absolutely NOT FOR SALE, as reported by the Manila Bulletin.

That being said, there are scammers who are selling illegal versions of the Friendship Route stickers to motorists who are eager to acquire them so that they can move better around the city. Those who engage in the selling fake Friendship Route stickers can get themselves into trouble according to city regulations. Clearly the only way for motorists to acquire legitimate Friendship Route stickers is through the City Government by means of applying online.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

The Las Pinas City government advised motorists, who are using public or private roads as alternative routes to ease or decongest traffic along the main thoroughfares in the city, not to deal with unscrupulous persons selling fake friendship route stickers.

The city government issued the advisory after a fake Las Pinas City government account was created, selling fake friendship stickers for P600 to P,1000.

The city government reiterated its call to motorists who wish to avail of a free friendship route sticker to visit the link bit.ly/LPCFriendshipStickerApp.

Persons caught selling fake friendship route stickers will be slapped with a fine of P3,000 to P5,000, according to city officials.

The city government issued on March 17 guidelines on how to apply for the friendship route stickers.

It said the vehicle’s official receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR) of the owner should be registered with Las Piñas address.

Las Pinas residents can still avail of the stickers even as their vehicle is not registered in the city by just showing driver’s license or any other documents that will prove that the applicant is a city resident.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City who still has yet to acquire a legitimate Friendship Route sticker from the City Government, have you applied already online? If you did, how was the experience of the online application? If you ever spot someone selling fake Friendship Route stickers, would you report them to the local authorities?

Chinese national arrested in Parañaque City by immigration agents

Another Chinese national was arrested in the City of Parañaque recently, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The arrest was done by agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) as the said foreigner overstayed in the country and was allegedly responsible in forcing women from another country to work in prostitution joints locally.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested an overstaying Chinese national who was allegedly forcing Korean women to work in prostitution dens in the country.

In a report to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. Identified the foreigner as 35-year-old Jin Mingchun.

He was collared at his residence in Parañaque City after an informant accused him of forcing several Korean women to work in prostitution dens.

The informer alleged that Jin’s usual modus is to confiscate the passport of his victims. He would then allegedly drug them in hotel rooms where his customers are billeted.

The arresting agents were armed with a mission order issued by Morente upon learning that the suspect had been overstaying for more than two years.

Morente ordered the legal division to initiate deportation proceedings against Jin for being an overstaying and undesirable alien.

“Aliens like him who prey on women are automatically disqualified to stay in the country and should be expelled and banned from returning,” Morente said.

The above report ended stating that the Chinese suspect has been detained at a warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City. His deportation is pending.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are living in Parañaque City, are you concerned that there could be more undesirable foreigners like the reported suspect living in your city and secretly forcing women to work in the local prostitution joints? Did the number of criminal activities in your local community increase since after Chinese nationals started living there?

Three Chinese nationals apprehended in Parañaque City over kidnap of a fellow citizen

Another kidnapping incident involving Chinese nationals happened again in the City of Parañaque recently and the good news is that three suspects were arrested, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

Three Chinese nationals were arrested by patrolling policemen when a fellow citizen whom they kidnapped screamed for help in Paranaque City on Tuesday night.

Police identified the suspects as Zhao Lian, 40; Su Xiaoxi, 34; and Long Chen 33. They were charged with kidnapping and illegal detention and are now all detained at the Paranaque City Police custodial facility.

Police said that prior to the incident, the victim, Niu Weicheng, applied for a job and agreed to meet his supposed employer.

The victim told police that he was fetched by the suspects in Makati City for a swab test.

However, the suspects brought him to Norway Building, Kassel Residences in Barangay Moonwalk, Paranaque City, where he was detained at about 9:00 p.m.

He also told police that the suspects demanded P600,000 from him, or else he will be sold as a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) worker in Cavite City.

The above report ended stating that Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg said that their police officers heard the victim scream for help while patrolling. Fortunately for the victim, the police officers responded which led to the arrest of the suspects.

For the newcomers reading this, the disturbing trend of Chinese nationals kidnapping their fellow Chinese people has been going on for years now. Parañaque itself has been a hot spot for crimes involving Chinese. For added insight, check out this February 2020 news video below…

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are living in Parañaque City, do you believe that Chinese nationals are causing trouble in your local community? Are you concerned that a household in your local community occupied by Chinese nationals could be used for illegal activities such as the imprisonment of kidnap victims, smuggling, prostitution and the like? Do you believe it is high time for local authorities to investigate the POGOs? Does Parañaque need strong rules against kidnapping?

One of the victims rescued in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City, turned out to be a Taiwanese fugitive

In relation to what happened recently in Barangay BF Homes in Parañaque City, the local authorities just revealed that one of the victims rescued turned out to be a Taiwanese citizen who has been wanted in her homeland for fraud, according to a Manila Bulletin follow-up story. In their previous report, the two victims of kidnapping were described as Chinese nationals.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the most recent report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

One of the two foreigners who were rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) during a raid in Parañaque City on Feb. 26, turned out to be a fugitive wanted in Taiwan for fraud.

AKG director Brig. Gen. Ruldolph Dimas said they discovered that Li-You Ci is a Taiwanese and is wanted at the course of the investigation after the rescue operation in Parañaque City where three of his captors were killed in a brief gunbattle.

We immediately served the arrest warrant for her after verification. Documentation will be undertaken prior to her turnover to the Bureau of Immigration for the deportation proceedings,” said Dimas.

Li was kidnapped by a group of Chinese armed men in Pasay City. She was then kept in a safe house of the suspects while negotiations for her release were being conducted.

The warrant of arrest was issued by the Taiwan Kinmen District Prosecutors Office and was served on March 1,

The AKG, however, could not provide details as to why Li is (being) sought by Taiwanese authorities.

The above report ended stating that despite this strange turn of events, the filing of the case for kidnapping will still push through.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think about this latest news development? If you are a resident of Parañaque City, are you concerned that houses within your local community occupied by foreigners could have fugitives and other criminals in hiding?

You may answer in the comments below. If you prefer to answer privately, you may do so by sending me a direct message online.

3 Chinese nationals killed, 2 others rescued in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City

It seems that Parañaque City is still a hot spot for criminal activities that involve Chinese nationals as something happened in Barangay BF Homes that saw the deaths of three Chinese nationals as crime suspects and two others as kidnap victims who got rescued, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

Three Chinese nationals, who allegedly kidnapped two fellow citizens, were killed during a police rescue operation in Parañaque City on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 27.

Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, Southern Police District (SPD) director, said the suspects were killed in a shootout with members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group, Pasay and Paranaque police at about 5:50 p.m. on Vicente Recto St. at Barangay BF Homes, Paranaque City.

Macaraeg said that prior to the encounter, a suspect identified as Lorriel Lozano, 22, admitted his involvement in the kidnapping-for-ransom of one Ling Qang Chang, 43, in Pasay City.

The SPD chief said the joint team launched a rescue operation after learning that two foreigners identified as Zhou Xiang Kin, 42, and Li Ci You, 33, were also kidnapped and being detained inside a dog cage on the second floor of the suspects’ house.

Macaraeg said the operatives were fired upon by the suspects upon arrival in the area. The cops retaliated, wounding the three Chinese kidnappers.

The police rushed the suspects to the Medical Center Paranaque, but they were declared dead on arrival.

The SPD chief said they could not yet release the names of the slain suspects because the PNP is still conducting investigation on the kidnapping incidents involving Chinese nationals.

Macaraeg said the operatives recovered at the crime scene a 12-gauge shotgun, a .45-caliber pistol, one .9mm Uzi, a .9mm pistol, one black Toyota Innova, a white Kymco motorcycle, assorted military and police uniforms, ammunitions, cartridge cases, bullet vests, and gun parts.

For added insight, watch the related ABS-CBN and GMA Network news videos below…

The above news story that took place within Barangay BF Homes is pretty disturbing not just because it took place within a residential area, but also because the suspects accumulated deadly weapons and lots of military and police uniforms. It seems the suspects are working for some powerful people who have yet to be identified. Having that much guns, ammunition and clothing resembling local authorities is very disturbing to say the least. We can only hope that the police will be able to find out who the superiors and financiers of the suspects are.

The kidnapping of Chinese nationals committed by their fellow citizens here in the Philippines is not unusual. More on Parañaque itself, there was a gang composed of almost all Chinese nationals that got arrested for attempting to kidnap another Chinese citizen. With regards to foreigners causing disturbance within Parañaque with other forms of criminal activities, there was even an illegal online gaming operation involving several Chinese and Filipino citizens in Barangay Tambo. As for the cyber sex den in Parañaque that got stopped by the NBI, that illegal operation also involved a Chinese citizen.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are living in Parañaque City, do you believe that Chinese nationals are causing trouble in your local community? Are you concerned that a house in your local community occupied by Chinese nationals could be used for illegal activities like kidnapping, hacking, cybersex, prostitution, torture, smuggling, and imprisonment of other people?

If ever you spot an act of kidnapping happening, are you willing to report the incident to the local police?

Illegal drugs worth more than P350,000 seized in Parañaque City

Another drugs-related development happened recently in Parañaque City and the illegal substances are estimated to be worth over P350,000, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

A 53 year-old man was arrested by members of the Paranaque Police Sub-Station 4 after he was caught in possession of suspected shabu worth more than P350,000 on Feb. 26.

Col. Maximo Sebastian, Paranaque police chief, identified the suspect as Johnny de Leon who was arrested at about 1:30 a.m. at Small Ville beside Olivarez Condominium in Barangay San Dionisio, Paranaque.

Sebastian said prior to the arrest of the suspect, members of the Paranaque Police Sub-Station 4 were conducting “Oplan Galugad” when they were approached by a concerned citizen who reported of an ongoing illegal drug trade.

The police proceeded to the place to verify the report and caught the suspect in the act of sealing a plastic sachet containing shabu with the use of his lighter.

During a body search, the police found two plastic sachets of shabu placed inside a coin pouch.

Sebastian said recovered from the suspect 51.67 grams of shabu amounting to P351,356.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Parañaque City, what is your reaction to this latest news story? Do you consider your city as the hot spot for illegal drugs?

Wanted foreigners arrested by immigration officials

Here in the Philippines, personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) successfully apprehended three foreigners – two from South Korea and one from China – who were wanted in their respective countries. According to a Manila Bulletin news report, the three were arrested in two separate operations.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has arrested two South Koreans wanted for telecom fraud and a Chinese charged with economic crimes in their respective countries.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Koreans Kim Changhan, 25, and Kim Junhee, 38, were arrested last week by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) in separate operations conducted in Makati City and Porac, Pampanga.

On the other hand, 51-year-old Chinese woman Zhang Yujie was (collared) in Mandaluyong City last Friday.

The BI chief said that the two South Koreans already have summary deportation orders issued against them in 2019 and 2020 for being undesirable aliens.

FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said the deportation order against Kim Changan was in relation to an arrest warrant issued by the Seoul Central District Court in October 2020 while Kim Junhee faces a warrant issued by Seoul Nambu District Court in July 2019.

Information obtained from the Interpol’s national central bureau (NCB) in Manila revealed that Kim Changan is the leader of a telecom fraud syndicate based in Sandong-sung China engaged in voice phishing that defrauded their compatriots of more than 63 million won or nearly US$53 million.

For the newcomers reading this, there are wanted foreigners or undesirable aliens who are present here in the Philippines and it takes time and effort to apprehend them. This past January in Parañaque City, a foreign fugitive was arrested and he turned out to be listed in the Interpol’s Red Notice. Still in Parañaque, a Malaysian national and his Filipino partner got arrested for falsification of documents and usurpation of authority right inside a police station. The two suspects tried to fool the police into releasing Chinese nationals who were arrested for kidnapping.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Are you suspicious of foreigners living in your local community right now? Do you believe that the immigration officials are the doing good enough to get rid of the undesirable aliens?
