Bada and Caluya Dominate Junior Elite Category Of 2026 National Age Group Triathlon in Subic Bay

Darrell Johnson Bada and Anisha Eunice Caluya were crowned champions in the junior elite division of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone yesterday.

The 17-year-old Bada clocked 56 minutes and 57 seconds to finish the sprint race covering 750m swim, 18km bike and 5km run. The bike stage has a distance of 20km but was reduced due to a road repair.

Euan Arrow Ramos placed second with a time of 58:57 followed by Peter Sacho Del Rosario (59:12).

“I always give my best in every race, the goal is to win and I’m glad I did it,” said Bada, a Grade 12 student at Subic Colleges in Olongapo City.

“Last year, I was in the second pack. This year, I was in the first pack and eventually won the title,” added the gold medalist at the 2025 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup Subic Bay (SuBIT).

Caluya, on the other hand, registered the best time of 1:07:09 in the women’s division. Christy Ann Perez (1:07:56) and Aira Danara Gregorio (1:08:38) were second and third, respectively.

Meanwhile, Cebuanos Kim Andrew Remolino and Matthew Justine Hermosa had a 1-2 finish in the men’s elite division of the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corporation, Z-Bitt and SBMA Tourism.

Remolino clocked 56:17 followed by Hermosa (56:21) and Dayshaun Karl Ramos (56:44).

“I came here prepared and I’m happy with the result,” said Remolino, who together with Hermosa will join the PRISAA Regional qualifying on March 13-14 in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy (1:07:49) and Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz (1:08:42) were the top two finishers in the women’s division of NAGT, Triathlon Philippines’ grassroots and talent identification program.

The Subic Bay leg of the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series was supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Funtastic Subic, Terrace Hotel Subic Bay, and Fitbar.

Filipino-French Alaina Bouffaut and Diego Jose Dimayuga Top 13-15 category of 2026 National Age Group Triathlon in Subic Bay

Diego Jose Dimayuga and Alaina Bouffaut of Get Coach’d Academy headed by Doray Ellis topped the super sprint U15 (13-15 years old) category of the opening leg of the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone yesterday.

Dimayuga clocked 31:46 to win the gold medal in the boys division, while teammate Pio Mishael Gabriel placed second (33:31) followed by Joseph Ian Caluste of BE TRITANS (34:15).

Bouffaut and teammate Naomi Rozeboom also had a 1-2 finish in the girls division of the event sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corporation, Z-Bitt and SBMA Tourism.

Bouffaut submitted the best time of 37:39. Rozeboom was second in 37.51, while Lauren Lee Tan placed third (37:55), beating Diego’s sister, Naomi Rosalie (37:56).

Dimayuga, the newest member of the national elite pool, and Bouffaut are scheduled to compete at the Asian Junior and U23 Championships on May 12-15 in Hong Kong.

In the super tri kids division, Marcus Jayden Balaquit of Wavemakers Swim Team and Danica Angodung were crowned champions in the 11-12 category.

Eli Juan Dela Cruz of Team Megawide and Ami Takei of Team Honu (9-10 years old); Ethan Geronimo of OJT and Francesca Bader Mendoza of Gas Coaching/Ace Seawolves (7-8 years old); and Jewel Hunter Galang and Ylianna Devera of TLTG (6 years old and under) were the other winners in the event organized by Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) as part of its grassroots and talent identification program.

The Subic Bay leg of the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series was supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Funtastic Subic, Terrace Hotel Subic Bay, and Fitbar.

2026 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) Set For May 2 And 3, Registration Ongoing

The Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – the longest running international triathlon event of the Philippines – will be held on May 2 and 3, 2026, inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and already online registration (note: RaceYa account is required) is ongoing.

The event is formally referred to as the 2026 NTT Asia Triathlon Cup Subic Bay International Triathlon which will be organized by Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) and is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Gatorade and the Western Guaranty Corporation.

Available details

On May 2, Sprint Distance (750 Meter Swim – 20 Kilometer Bike – 5 Kilometer Run) races will be held.

On May 3, the Standard Distance (1.5 Km Swim – 40 Km Bike – 10 Km Run), Sprint Distance, Super Sprint Distance (500 M swim – 13 Km Bike – 2.5 Km Run) and Super TriKids events will take place.

Race categories are the Elite, Age Group Sprint, Age Group Standard, Age Group U15 Super Sprint and Super TriKids

Registration fees

The Early Bird period of registration fees is now in effect and the fees are as follows:

Standard Distance – P6,000 plus online registration fees

Sprint Distance – P5,500 plus online registration fees

Super Sprint Distance – P4,500 plus online registration fees

Super TriKids – P3,500 plus online registration fees

The Early Bird period of registration will last until February 28, 2026.

Effective March 1, 2026, the Regular registration fees will take effect which are as follows:

Standard Distance – P6,500 plus online registration fees

Sprint Distance – P6,000 plus online registration fees

Super Sprint Distance – P5,000 plus online registration fees

Super TriKids – P4,000 plus online registration fees

The Regular period of registration will last until March 31, 2026.

Effective April 1, 2026, the Late registration fees will take effect which are as follows:

Standard Distance – P7,500 plus online registration fees

Sprint Distance – P7,000 plus online registration fees

Super Sprint Distance – P6,000 plus online registration fees

Super TriKids – P5,000 plus online registration fees

Malaysia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) has set the goal of the country being overall champions at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in 2027, which will be hosted by Malaysia.

Newly appointed Youth and Sports Minister Mohd Taufiq Johari said after taking office on Jan. 16 that the ministry, together with the National Sports Council (NSC), will strengthen cooperation with national sports associations and others to work towards that goal.

He expressed confidence that Malaysia could emerge as the strongest team at the SEA Games 2027, and voiced optimism about repeating the overall championship the country secured when it last hosted the event in 2017.

Taufiq praised the dedication and fighting spirit displayed by Malaysian athletes at the SEA Games 2025 in Thailand, saying he hoped they will maintain the same qualities when Malaysia hosts the Games in 2027.

He added that the KBS, together with the NSC and relevant agencies, have already drawn up detailed plans and a clear timeline, including the organization of workshops, to ensure medal targets can be achieved.

Apart from being a highly competitive nation in the SEA Games, Malaysia itself is the 2nd most visited nation of Southeast Asia in 2025. Hosting the SEA Games in 2027 could help it attract more foreign tourists in the short term.

Local residents of Muntinlupa City who won medals in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Thailand were congratulated by the City Government, according to a news report by the Manila Bulletin.

The Muntinlupa City government congratulated residents who won medals at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.

They are Daryl John Mercado, Mark Jesus San Jose and Kaila Napolis who won a bronze medal each in different sports in the SEA Games.

Mercado, a resident of Barangay Tunasan, Muntinlupa, won a bronze medal in the Men’s 55kg Judo Shiai.

“Isa na namang Muntinlupeño ang nagbigay karangalan sa ating lungsod matapos makasungkit ng medalya sa 33rd Southeast Asian Games sa Thailand! (Another Muntinlupa man brought honor to our city after winning a medal in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand!” the city government posted on Facebook.

It added that Mercado is a project of the city government’s grassroots sports program. He is the current coach of the Muntinlupa Judo Club.

San Jose, a resident of Barangay Putatan, won a bronze medal in Men’s Bowling while Napolis of Barangay Poblacion won the same medal in the Women’s 57kg Jiu-jitsu Ne-waza.

This past weekend, national triathlete Kira Ellis achieved tremendous honor for the Philippines by winning the gold in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup held at Riga, Latvia, according to a Manila Bulletin sports news report.

For the newcomers reading this, Kira Ellis came back from injury and was sidelined for several months which makes her victory in Latvia even more special not only for her career but for the entire nation. Triathlete Kira Ellis lived up to her lofty billing as she captured the Junior Women crown in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Cup in Riga, Latvia over the weekend.

Despite being the lone Filipina and Asian in the class, Ellis, 18, impressed and timed in one hour, five minutes, and seven seconds in the 750m-swim, 22km-bike, and 5.1km-run event to outshine 15 other foreign rivals.

It was also a sort of stellar comeback for Ellis who suffered a shin splint (medial tibial stress syndrome) that sidelined her for six months.

The feat just added to Ellis’ trophy collection that includes golds in 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup in Malaysia and in 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! Yesterday in Vietnam, John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa won the duathlon (run-bike-run) titles for the Philippines during the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships.

Duathletes John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa emerged as champions in contrasting fashion in the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships in Tam Chuc Complex, Vietnam.

Ranked No. 75 in World Triathlon ranking and 11th placer in the February in the Asian Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain, Ciron covered 5km run, 30km bike and 5km grind in 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds (1:01:30).

Ciron finished 1 min and1 sec clear of heavy favorite Pam Tien San, the Hanoi and Cambodia Southeast Asian Games duathlon titleholder, who prevailed over Indonesian Parth Sachin Mirage in a photo finish.

Trupa, who in February earned a ticket for the World Games along top Filipino triathlete Kim Mangrobang and Franklin Yee, climbed the top of the podium on a technicality.

Finishing second unofficially (1:04;14), 41 sec behind Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Tuy Van, she was declared the gold medalist when Nguyen was disqualified on account of failure to serve her penalty for an infraction.

Sharing the victory stand with Trupa were a couple of Singaporeans—Louisa Marie Middleditch, runner-up (1:04:19), and Rachel Hew, bronze medalist (1:05:01).

Sam Corpuz who sees action in the championships that mimics the SEA Games where triathlon, aquathlon and duathlon are included in the program, along with Ciron and Tropa plus Coach Raymond Torio are supported by both Jeremy Go of Go for Philippines and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! The Vermosa Sports Hub will be hosting the National Age Group Aquathlon and the National Age Group Duathlon events this weekend in Cavite. Specifically, the aquathlon is on March 1 while the duathlon is on March 2. There will also be several significant athletes participating in the said events.

These events of Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) are supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc., Fitbar and RaceYa. Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub is the venue partner.

Recently, the news article of the National Age Group Aquathlon and National Age Group Duathlon was published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) with an emphasis on who will be competing this weekend. Posted below is the excerpt of the news release but be aware the word “championships” is inaccurate. Some parts in boldface.

All is set for the National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon Championships this weekend at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.

The aquathlon event is set on March 1 and the duathlon the next day.

Merry Joy Trupa and Marion Kim Mangrobang lead the title contenders in a duathlon in the tournament organized by the Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) headed by Tom Carrasco.

Trupa won the silver medal while Mangrobang settled for the bronze medal at the 2025 Asia Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain last Sunday.

Trupa finished the 5km run-30km bike-5km run in 1:29:16, behind Chinese Ziqing Lu (1:28:24). Mangrobang champion, clocked 1:33:14.

Mangrobang is a three-time champion in triathlon and back-to-back gold medalist in duathlon at the SEA Games.

She leads the women’s Elite, Under 23 and Junior squad which include Raven Faith Alcoseba, Kira Ellis, Erika Nicole Burgos, Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz and Katrina Salazar.

The men’s Elite and Under 23 team is composed of Filipino-Spanish Fernando Casares, Andrew Kim Remolino, Matthew Justine Hermosa, Joshua Alexander Ramos, Iñaki Emil Lorbes, Juan Miguel Tayag and Juan Francisco Baniqued, while the Junior Elite roster has Dayshaun Karl Ramos, Darell Johnson Bada, Euan Arrow Ramos and Peter Sancho del Rosario.

SEA Games double-gold medalist John Leerams Chicano banners the men’s duathlon team. Joining him are Maynard Pecson, John Patrick Ciron, Irienold Reig Jr. and Franklin Yee.

With Trupa in the women’s team are Jena Valdez and Bea Marie Quiambao.

Cebu-based SEA Games medalists Andrew Kim Remolino and Raven Faith Alcoseba successfully defended their respective titles in the elite category of the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) opening leg at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Boardwalk in Zambales yesterday.

Remolino finished the 750 Meter swim – 20 Kilometer bike – 5 Km run race in 56 minutes and 46 seconds to beat teammate Matthew Justine Hermosa (56:47) and Joshua Alexander Ramos of Baguio City (57:23) in the men’s division.

“Halos sabay-sabay lang kami nina Matthew, [Iñaki Emil] Lorbes, Joshua at Dayshaun Karl [Ramos] after ng swim until sa bike transition. Nag-breakaway kami ni Matthew pag-start ng run, then nag-sprint na kami sa last 150 meters,” explained the 23-year-old Remolino, a 2nd year marketing student at University of San Carlos.

In the women’s division, Alcoseba clocked 1:05:19 to claim her fourth straight title in the event organized by the Triathlon Philipines headed by Tom Carrasco.

Erika Nicole Burgos of Tanauan, Batangas (1:06:56) and Katrina Salazar of Mandaluyong City (1:08:53) placed second and third, respectively.

“I had a good training. It’s nice to win again,” said Alcoseba, fourth year civil engineering student at De La Salle University. She won one gold (4x200m freestyle relay), two silver (400m Individual Medley and 800m freestyle) and one bronze (400m freestyle relay) medals in the UAAP Season 87 swimming competition.

In the Junior Elite category, the top three finishers in the men’s division were Dayshaun Karl Ramos (57:17), Darell Johnson Bada (59:38) and Euan Arrow Ramos (59:40) while in the women’s division were Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy (1:09:54), Maria Celinda (1:14:50) and Candace Marie (1:15:12).

In the age group sprint, which also covered 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km, the winners in the men’s division were Christopher Adrian Te of TDN Con-Steel Builders (16-19), Daniel Nazarro of Baguio Benguet Triathlon (20-29), Norman Resurrecion of FITPH (30-39), Raffy Dolor of Artemis Victory (40-49), Joey Veloso of Paynet Amigo Tri (50-59), and Michiel Van Der Auwera of Westgrove (60 and over).

Champions in the women’s division were Aira Danara Soguilon Gregorio of DentalWay-HTC-GTT (16-19), Edellaine Mae Digos of Olongapo Junior Trackers Multisports (20-29), Rhia Mae Alexandra Stawicki of Triclark Triathlon Team (30-39), Franchesca Carpo of Polotri Team (40-49), Bic Ferreria of Amigo Tri (50 and over).

Recently the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) got recognized yet again in the field of sports tourism as it won the Destination of the Year award for 2023 during the 6th Philippine Sports Tourism Awards, according to the social media announcement via the FUNtastic Subic Bay Facebook page.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the social media post. Some parts in boldface…

We’re thrilled to announce that Subic Bay has once again been recognized as the 𝑫𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒀𝒆𝒂𝒓 (for 2023) at the prestigious 6th Philippine Sports Tourism Awards!

This marks our fourth win, following our previous victories in 2019 for Sports Tourism Destination Marketing of the Year, 2018 for Event of the Year (International), and 2017 for Destination of the Year.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Chairman and Administrator Engr. Eduardo L. Aliño, the SBMA Board of Directors, the SBMA working group, our partner organizers, and all our stakeholders for their unwavering commitment to making Subic Bay a premier sports tourism destination. This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts. Congratulations to all of us!

I personally have visited the Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) from time to time since 1994. I have witnessed how much Subic Bay evolved as a tourism destination, a shopping destination as well as a special events destination. The tourism team of the SBMA has a long track record of sports tourism development and the hosting of many kinds of sports events. That being said, it is not surprising to me that the SBMA won another sports tourism award.

For the newcomers reading this, Subic Bay was the host venue of selected events of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). Each year, Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) organizes the Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) there.
