Nationwide voter registration for BSKE set for August 1 to 10, 2025

In preparation for the next edition of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) announced that the nationwide voter registration process will be held from August 1 to 10, 2025, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the resumption of the nationwide voter registration next month for the conduct of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) later this year.

Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said the Commission’s seven-member panel has approved the holding of the 10-day voter registration activities from Aug. 1 to 10.

“The Commission en banc has approved the resumption of voter registration for the BSKE,” he said in an interview.

He noted that the resumption of the voter registration has been decided to ensure that those looking to vote in the village and youth polls will be able to vote, particularly those aged 15 to 17 years old.

“We are still waiting if the BSKE will push through or not. The problem is, if it pushes through on Dec. 1 and we have not conducted voter registration, we won’t have voters, especially in the 15 to 17 years old age group,” he explained.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has yet to sign the proposed bill setting the terms of village and youth officials.

#1 Minty Comedic Arts examines Not Another Teen Movie – As it is undeniably true that Hollywood produced a lot of teen movies from the 1980s into the 1990s, it was inevitable that a parody movie referencing them would get released. 2001’s Not Another Teen Movie did exactly that and by today’s standards, the parody production itself has lots of interesting details to explore which you can see in Minty Comedic Arts’ video below.

#2 Michael Jordan’s memorable moves in Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals – Remember when Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to its 6^th NBA championship in 1998? It took him and his team a lot of effort to win over the revenge-hungry Utah Jazz (which had the homecourt advantage) in the NBA Finals of that year. But there’s more! Before the 1997-98 season even started, there was a lot of intrigue and tension behind the scenes within the Chicago Bulls. Not only that, the Indiana Pacers pushed the Bulls to a full seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals. Radiant Silvergun arguably revived the shoot-them-up genre in arcades while Ikaruga had more puzzle-inspired elements to its gameplay. #4 Reaction videos of Jurassic Park III – When Jurassic Park III opened in cinemas in 2001, I was not too excited about it because The Lost World: Jurassic Park was a major disappointment, and my interest in cinematic dinosaurs was weak. I eventually saw the movie at a time when the lineup of movies screened in cinemas was really weak (note: Jurassic Park III was already over a month old in the cinemas) and I got barely entertained. To this day, some Jurassic Park franchise fans are divided over the 3^rd movie’s quality – some found it faster-paced and more fun than its 1997 predecessor while others viewed it as a very rushed side story pretending to be a sequel. #5 You, Me and the Movies react to The Thing (1982) – When The Thing was first released in 1982, the reception from movie critics was negative and the film ended up grossing less than $20 million in the American box office. Recently in the City of Las Piñas, literacy was emphasized during the launch of Brigada Eskwela in Barangay Elias Aldana which Mayor-elect April Aguilar attended, the City Government announced via social media.

The Schools Division Office (SDO) of Las Piñas City officially started the weeklong Brigada Eskwela 2025 on Tuesday, June 10, at the Las Piñas Elementary School Central in Elias Aldana. Aligned with the national theme “Sama-sama Para sa Bayang Bumabasa,” this year’s kickoff emphasized the collective effort to improve reading proficiency among learners across the country.

The event gathered stakeholders from various sectors, including local government officials, partner organizations, and school personnel, who pledged their commitment to support the public school system through volunteerism, resource mobilization, and active participation in school readiness activities. Highlights of the program included the ceremonial signing of the Pledge of Commitment and the awarding of certificates to institutional partners who have continuously supported Brigada Eskwela through the years.

Mayor-elect April Aguilar attended the event and expressed her full support for the campaign. She acknowledged the importance of collaboration between government, schools, and the community in ensuring that Las Piñas learners are equipped with strong literacy foundations.

Muntinlupa City Government releases school supplies to public school students

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, the City Government officially started distributing free school supplies and shoes to public school students – early education to senior high school – in preparation for the new school year of 2025-2026, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The Muntinlupa City government has started the distribution of free Balik Eskwela packages to public school students.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon visited schools to distribute the free school supplies and shoes, which will benefit nearly 100,000 public school students from early education to senior high school.

Each Balik Eskwela package contains backpacks, notebooks, pad papers, pens and pencils, pencil case and black leather shoes.

This is the third year that the Biazon administration will give free school supplies to public school students in Muntinlupa.

“Ginagawa natin ang lahat para masuportahan ang kinabukasan ng kabataang Muntinlupeño. Kaya yearly din ang distribution natin ng Balik Eskwela packages bilang tulong sa mga gastusin ng mga pamilya at paghahanda ng mga estudyante sa panibagong school year (We are doing everything we can to support the future of Muntinlupeño youth. That is why we also distribute Balik Eskwela packages annually to help families with their expenses and prepare students for the new school year),” Biazon posted on Facebook.

Parañaque Congressman-elect Yamsuan eyes expansion of BAON program for poor-but-deserving students among constituents

Incoming Parañaque 2^nd District Representative Brian Yamsuan confirmed that he intends to expand the BAON (Bigay Ayuda at Oportunidad sa Nakababata) program to help the poor-but-deserving students among the constituents and he will do it once he takes office, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. In fact, there were already thousands of students in District 2 of Parañaque who benefited from the said program this year.

For context about the recent National and Local Elections, Yamsuan ran under the Team Pag-Asa banner and his successful teammates include Vice Mayor-elect Benjo Bernabe, and the re-elected City Councilors Tess de Asis, Binky Favis and Shannin Olivarez. Yamsuan won over 2^nd District Representative Gus Tambunting with a lead of almost ten thousand votes. The 2^nd District includes large communities such as Barangay BF Homes, BF Homes subdivision and Tahanan Village. Parañaque City 2nd district Representative-elect Brian Raymund Yamsuan is eyeing the expansion of his “ayuda” program for poor but deserving students among his constituents.

“Our BAON (Bigay Ayuda at Oportunidad sa Nakababata) program had huge impact on the youth in the second district. We will continue implementing and find ways to broaden its scope to benefit more Parañaqueños in the district,” Yamsuan said in a statement Tuesday, May 27.

“We will start on day one of my term,” he declared ahead of the 20th Congress.

Yamsuan, Bicol Saro Party-list’s lone nominee in the current 19th Congress, said education would be among his priorities as he endeavors to empower the youth and help them take charge of their future.

“Our goal is to make education affordable and easily accessible to give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed in overcoming life’s challenges and carving a stable and vibrant future,” he said.

“Edukasyon, sipag at determinasyon ang pinanghawakan ko noon para makaahon sa kahirapan kaya’t alam ko na kung mabibigyan lamang ng maayos na edukasyon ay may naghihintay na matatag na bukas para sa bawat masisipag na Parañaqueno ng second district,” added the former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assistant secretary.

(Education, diligence and determination were what I held onto in the past to rise above poverty, which is why I know that a stable future awaits every hardworking Parañaquenõ in the second district if given the chance to have a proper education.)

BAON, which Yamsuan started implementing in the district last year, provides a one-time P5,000 educational assistance to each qualified student-beneficiary, and P10,000 each to Dean’s Listers or those With High Honors.

As of April 2025, BAON has benefited about 5,000 students in the elementary, high school and college levels who are residents of Parañaque’s 2nd district.

Yamsuan said that on top of continuing his BAON program, he is also in talks with fellow lawmakers to determine how to increase government funding for the Parañaque City campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) so that more underprivileged but deserving students from the second district would be able to study in this state educational institution.

Established through the efforts of the city’s former mayor, Florencio Bernabe Jr., PUP Parañaque offers academic programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in computer engineering, hospitality management, information technology, and office administration. It also offers a Diploma in Office Management Technology-Legal Office Management.

Bada, Okuma rule Junior Elite contests in 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup

Filipino Darell Johnson Bada dominated the Sprint Junior Elite Men during the 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup held yesterday at the Subic Freeport Zone.

Bada won the gold with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 46 seconds (1:01:46). Japan’s Main Takata (1:02:10) and Filipino John Michael Lalimos (1:02:26) were second and third, respectively.

“I really want to win so I did my best,” said Bada, who finished third last year with a time of 1:03:22.

“The swim was very hard, the bike was challenging, I broke away early in the running stage,” he added.

Euan Arrow Ramos, the U15 super sprint champion last year, settled for eighth place with a time of 1:07:38. He dropped one of his shoes after the swim phase but still registered the fastest time of 33:08 in the bike phase. However, he ran out of energy in the running stage.

In the Junior Elite Women contest, Yukiho Okuma of Japan clocked 1:08:13 to prevail over Filipinos Anisha Eunice Caluya (1:11:18) and Aira Danara Gregorio (1:12:17).

National athlete Kira Ellis, who has a shin injury, did not finish the race. She clocked 10:16 in swimming and 34:36 in cycling but skipped the running phase as advised by her coaches and physical therapist.

Meanwhile, Dustine Dan Eslay of 2600 Baguio topped the men’s 16-19 category in 1:07:24. in the sprint age group category of the tournament supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Century Tuna, Sante Barley, Milo and Gatorade as the official hydration partner.

Winners in the men’s standard age group were Andie Jimeno (18-24), Rafael Sawali (25-29), Tristan Rene Santos (30-34), Mike Kramer (35-39), Craig Douglas (40-44), Marvin Baldemor (45-49), Junrox Roque (50-54), JT Gonzales (55-59), Cristobal Olivas (60-over).

In the sprint para category, the gold medalists were Edison Badillo (men PTS2); Raul Angoluan (men PTS3); Alex Silverio (men PTS4); Jerome Nelmida and Shyrnel Amiladjid (men PTVI); and Steven and Audrey Coleman (special category).

Japanese win Elite titles of 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup

Triathletes from Japan lived up to their billing as the best in Asia as Takuto Oshima and Manami Hayashi emerged as the Elite Male and Elite Female champion, respectively, in the 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup yesterday at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Oshima, No. 25 in the continental ranking and 151st in the world, and teammate top seed Maeda Ryousuke paced together the grind with Kazakh Daryn Konysbayev closing on them in the run stage.

Oshima, whose most recent podium finish was 2nd place in the 2025 Asia Triathlon Cup Chennai, clocked in 1 hour 50 minutes and 25 seconds with Konysbayev snatching the runner-up honors, 27 seconds behind. Maeda settled for third in 1:51:16.

The Elite Women contest ran true to form as odds-on favorite Hayashi turn the 31st staging of what is more popularly known as SUBIT her own show from start to finish she covered in 2:04:58.

Two Koreans joined Hayashi—Gaycon Park and Hyo Rim Jeong—at the podium of the one of the premier Asian triathlons with the former placing second (2:05:21) and the latter third (2:06:25).

Dayshaun Ramos was the top Filipino finisher at 14th position with a time of 1:54:53 and Raven Alcoseba as the # 1 Filipina, just off the top 10, checking in 2:14:16, in the event where the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority was the venue partner; with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Century Tuna, Sante Barley, Milo and Gatorade as major sponsors and Western Guaranty Assurance Corp., Subic Bay Travelers-Hotel and Fitbar as supporters.

Diego Dimayuga pounced on the tentativeness of his teammate at Coach D Academy in T2 (10 seconds longer) as he retained his title in the Boys 13-15 while Japanese Miharu Oka prevailed in Girls 13-15.

The last time the Japanese dominated the SUBIT was 2002.

Ciron and Trupa win duathlon titles in Vietnam

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! Yesterday in Vietnam, John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa won the duathlon (run-bike-run) titles for the Philippines during the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships.

Duathletes John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa emerged as champions in contrasting fashion in the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships in Tam Chuc Complex, Vietnam.

Ranked No. 75 in World Triathlon ranking and 11th placer in the February in the Asian Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain, Ciron covered 5km run, 30km bike and 5km grind in 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds (1:01:30).

Ciron finished 1 min and1 sec clear of heavy favorite Pam Tien San, the Hanoi and Cambodia Southeast Asian Games duathlon titleholder, who prevailed over Indonesian Parth Sachin Mirage in a photo finish.

Trupa, who in February earned a ticket for the World Games along top Filipino triathlete Kim Mangrobang and Franklin Yee, climbed the top of the podium on a technicality.

Finishing second unofficially (1:04;14), 41 sec behind Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Tuy Van, she was declared the gold medalist when Nguyen was disqualified on account of failure to serve her penalty for an infraction.

Sharing the victory stand with Trupa were a couple of Singaporeans—Louisa Marie Middleditch, runner-up (1:04:19), and Rachel Hew, bronze medalist (1:05:01).

Sam Corpuz who sees action in the championships that mimics the SEA Games where triathlon, aquathlon and duathlon are included in the program, along with Ciron and Tropa plus Coach Raymond Torio are supported by both Jeremy Go of Go for Philippines and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Dimayuga wins silver medal for Philippines in Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! This past weekend in Hong Kong, the youthful Diego Jose Dimayuga won for the Philippines a silver medal in the 13-15 category during the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025.

A surprise package in the youngest bet, Diego Jose Dimayuga, prevented PHI from medal shutout in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025 in Hong Kong yesterday.

Dimayuga, mentored by Doray Ellis, snatched the silver medal in the 13-15 years category, aggregating 35 minutes and 32 seconds on splits of 00:05:43 swim (T1/15 sec), 19 min bike (T2/1 min 27 sec) and 8 min 7 sec bike.

Going into the run after the 400-meter swim and 11-km bike, Dimayuga, the self-funded grandson of ex-University of the Philippines regent Francis Laurel, and eventual champion, hometown favorite Yik Hei Lau were neck-and neck.

Yik poured it on in the 2.5-Kilometer run that saw him breast the tape at 35:40, 52 seconds ahead of Dimayuga. Completing the podium finishers was another Hong Kongite, Tze Kiu Tam, who finished 11 seconds behind Dimayuga.

The other members of the PHI squad supported by Philippine Sports Commission seeing action in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships Hong Kong 2025 included: Raven Alcoseba, Sam Corpus, Erika Burgos, Kim Remolino, Mateo Hermosa, Dash and Josh Ramos.

Team manager is Ting Joson with Doray Ellis, Louann Ramos and Andoy Remolino as coaches.

#1 The next Xbox will include Steam and PlayStation? – The vibe of the next-generation of console gaming is only intensifying by the day. When it comes to Xbox itself, there is speculation that the next-generation Xbox will not only be a hybrid PC console but also include access to Steam games and even those of PlayStation. I know it sound crazy but if it is clear that Microsoft is doing its own approach on the next-generation Xbox in radically different way compared with PlayStation and Nintendo. #2 PatmanQC examines NBA Jam – Were you able to play basketball videos in the arcades way back in the 1990s? Back then, NBA Jam was a massive excess attracting so many players and generating lots of income for arcade operators. The game also sold a lot on many game consoles as well. NBA Jam is a 2-on-2 arcade-style basketball game with emphasis on fast-paced scoring without the hindrance of normal basketball rules. #3 Slope’s Game Room examines the Strike games franchise – Remember back long ago when Electronic Arts (EA) released a series of military themed shooter games on game consoles? I’m referring to the Strike series of games that include Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, Urban Strike, Soviet Strike and Nuclear Strike. Those games were released across two console generations in the 1990s and the series has not been revived until now. To look back at EA’s Strike games, watch the video by Slope’s Game Room.

#4 VKunia reacts to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice – I recently browsed through the many videos of YouTuber VKunia and took time to watch her reaction video of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film directed by Zack Snyder is significant not in a positive way but because of its very dark approach on storytelling and spectacle involving DC Comics’ icons Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The way it was presented, not even the combined talents of Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and others could spare the film from negative reception. I think by today’s standards, this is a superhero film that can only entertain a limited type of people. Still, I find VKunia’s reactions to it a must-watch.

#5 Woke garbage in comic books exposed and explained – As a geek, I really hate it when these modern day Leftists – Communists, socialists, Marxists, liberals, diversity zealots, inclusion zealots, LGBTQ activists and Islamo-Leftists – ruin movies and video games by emphasizing their radical agenda through them. The same has happened in comic books and it is clear that the Leftists working for the publishers made established superhero icons look terrible. These unfortunate developments will remind you that comic books are meant for escapism and not political agenda which comic book legends Jim Shooter and Stan Lee confirmed long ago. Watch and learn from the video of YouTuber Ranting for Vengeance right now.

#6 The free speech solution against DEI poison – In this John Stossel video I recently saw, the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) was discussed and it turns out there is a free speech solution against the woke virus. This is about the ongoing information war between the Satanic Left and the ones who believe in common sense and reality.

#7 Ashleigh Burton reacts to The Breakfast Club – Were you able to watch any movies written or directed by the late John Hughes? A lot of people considered Hughes’ works collectively defined the cinematic American teenagers of the 1980s. One of the more popular works of Hughes was The Breakfast Club and Ashleigh Burton’s reaction video is a must-see.
