Recently in the City of Las Piñas, a former employee of the City Government revealed how she survived breast cancer with the help of the local green card program, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

A breast cancer survivor was emotional in narrating how she survived the disease with the help of green card program, a hospitalization support of the Las Piñas city government that subsidizes P30,000 of the total bill of a confined patient.

Clara Cruz, a former employee at the City Hall, said she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 1919 and was operated on at the San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Cruz said she underwent chemotherapy and was very thankful to Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice-Mayor April Aguilar because she was able to use her green card twice with their approval.

 Aguilar said the green card program is an important part of the city’s health subsidy program designed to deliver essential medical benefits to residents.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, more than two hundred pregnant women attended the “Buntis Congress” in Barangay Almanza Uno which is part of the local efforts to promote maternal and child health, according to the City Government’s social media post.

The City Health Office, led by OIC Dr. Juliana Gonzalez, successfully conducted the “Buntis Congress” on Thursday, July 11, at the Almanza Uno Covered Court. The event saw the participation of more than 200 pregnant women who were eager to learn about various health and wellness topics critical for their journey to motherhood.

The event featured several educational lectures, including sessions on safe motherhood, responsible parenthood and family planning, health for mother and child through good diet and supplementation, and maintaining oral health during pregnancy and for the child. These sessions aimed to equip the attendees with valuable (knowledge) to ensure the well-being of both mother and child.

In addition to the informative lectures, the event also included a raffle and numerous giveaways, generously sponsored by Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar, further emphasizing the city’s commitment to supporting its residents’ health and welfare.

Kira Ellis wins Junior Women gold medal in 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup Kampar

Kira Ellis of the Philippines won the gold medal of the Junior Women triathlon contest of the 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup held at Kampar, Malaysia.

Ellis won the sprint distance (750 M swim – 20 Km bike – 5 Km run) Junior Women race in one hour, five minutes and thirty-two seconds (1:05:32). Her opponents Seoeun Park (South Korea) and Diana Biktimrova (Uzbekistan) followed at 2nd and 3rd place with times of 1:07:42 and 1:07:45 respectively.

Meanwhile, Ellis’ teammate Samantha Corpuz finished at 4th place clocking in 1:08:02. For the complete results of the Junior Women contest, click here.

According to a news release from Triathlon Philippines, Kira Ellis showed tremendous improvements after a Philippine Sports Commission-funded five-week training camp in Portugal under coach Sergio Santos. She competed in the tough European Junior Cup in Hungary last Sunday where she qualified to the finals and placed 16th among 30 competitors.

#1 The fall of Humza Yousaf and vindication of author J.K. Rowling – In case you missed the news, Humza Yousaf (born in Scotland to Pakistani immigrants) stepped down as First Minister of Scotland as he faced imminent votes of no confidence in himself and in his government. This vindicated Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling who opposed Scotland’s new hate crime laws (which extends to people who identified as transgendered and yet ignored biological women) and pointed out Humza Yousaf’s contempt for women. #2 PatmanQC’s video documentary of P.O.W.: Prisoners of War – P.O.W.: Prisoners of Wars was one of those classic arcade games that I never got to play. It was made by SNK which is the same company behind the popular fighting game franchises King of Fighters, Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting. P.O.W.: Prisoners of War was a Cold War-inspired side-scrolling beat-them-up game that achieved big success in Japan. #3 The significance of Rik Smits in the NBA – When it comes to the NBA, one has to take a look at the contributions of retired player Rik Smits (the Dunking Dutchman). Smits’ name may not have the big attraction of other centers of his era such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal, Patrick Ewing and Robert Parish, but still he was a really solid center as well as a huge factor behind the rise of the Indiana Pacers in the 1990s. #4 X-Men: The Last Stand movie reaction videos – For a movie declared as an inferior or disappointing follow-up to 2003’s X2: X-Men United, X-Men: The Last Stand still became a popular film subject in several movie reaction videos on YouTube. Just type the keywords on YouTube’ search engine and you will find a lot of movie reaction videos of the Brett Ratner-directed superhero movie. For your entertainment, the most enjoyable movie reaction videos have been posted below.

#5 You, Me and the Movies’ reaction video of Clash of the Titans (1981) – As a young boy, I saw Clash of the Titans (1981) and it was an entertaining ride of its time. This was one of those many fantasy movies that were released in the 1980s and it was the final work of stop-motion visual effects legend Ray Harryhausen. Recently, You, Men and the Movies published their reaction video of it which is entertaining and you can watch it below.

#6 PatmanQC’s Super Pac-Man retrospective video – I first learned about Super Pac-Man way back in the 1980s by seeing it on TV but I never got to play it in the arcades. In recent times, I downloaded Pac-Man Museum+ through Xbox Game Pass (XGP) and finally got to play Super Pac-Man on my Xbox Series X. I had fun playing it as I adjusted with the gameplay which had notable differences compared to the original Pac-Man arcade game. #7 Extensive look back at Sega Saturn games – YouTuber Sega Lord X recently published this extensive video looking back at the Sega Saturn and its games. This is a must-see video because the Sega Saturn had numerous games and many of them were actually fun to play. Ignore those articles that called the Saturn a bad console and just focus on the games by watching the video below.

#8 FilmComicsExplained’s video about how to survive Deep Impact – In relation to my previous post highlighting the movie reaction video of Deep Impact (by YouTuber Popcorn in Bed), posted below is FilmComicsExplained’s video is focused on survival within the context of the 1998 film. There are some sensible and notable points of discussion made which should encourage people to replay Deep Impact and even question the way governments deal with disaster management on a massive scale. The City of Las Piñas has inaugurated a new Women’s Crisis Center in Sta. Cecilia Village, Barangay Talon Dos, providing essential services to women aged 18-59 who face gender-based violence. The center, which opened its doors on May 8th with City Mayor Imelda T. Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar in attendance, aims to support up to 40 women with temporary shelter and rehabilitation services.

This initiative responds to a rising number of violence cases against women in the area, attributed to increased awareness of women’s rights. The facility offers a comprehensive range of services designed to promote healing and recovery, including counseling, legal assistance, and livelihood training.

In addition to serving as a protective haven, the center functions as a Livelihood Center, aligning with Mayor Aguilar’s focus on enhancing economic opportunities for women through skill development. The diverse programs aim to empower women to rebuild their lives and achieve economic independence.

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, local residents Annie Ramirez and Kaila Napolis were formally honored by the City Government for winning medals for the Philippines in the jiu-jitsu events of the 19th Asian Games that took place in China, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The City Government approved two resolutions for them which were signed by Mayor Ruffy Biazon. Previously they were congratulated.

The Muntinlupa City government honored Asian Games medalists and residents Annie Ramirez and Kaila Napolis for their feats.

In two resolutions, the Muntinlupa City Council congratulated Ramirez for winning a gold medal in jiu-jitsu (57 kg) and Napolis for taking home a bronze medal in jiu-jitsu (52 kg) at the 19th Asian Games held in China.

Resolution Nos. 2023-339 and 2023-340 for the two medalists were signed by Mayor Ruffy Biazon.


“Annie Ramirez, a three-time Asian champion, defended her unbeaten run and ruled the Women’s Jiu-Jitsu Competition (57 kg) in the recently concluded Asian Games,” according to Resolution No. 2023-340.

Resolution No. 2023-339 stated that “Napolis, a two-time world championships medalist, secured the Bronze Medal in Women’s Jiu-jitsu (52kg) adding it to the 18 medals bagged by the Philippine Athletes in the recently concluded Asian Games.”

“The Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Muntinlupa is extending its heartfelt congratulations to all the Muntinlupeno Athletes and Coaches …for bringing honor and prestige to the City of Muntinlupa and serve as epitome of excellence and inspiration to our youth,” the two resolutions added.

Recently, the City Government of Muntinlupa congratulated local resident Kaila Napolis for winning the 52Kg women’s jiu-jitsu gold medal in the 2023 World Combat Games that took place in Saudi Arabia.

The congratulatory message was done through the City Government’s official Facebook page on October 28 with a picture post. For the newcomers reading this, this is not the first time Napolis made big achievements in international sports events and has been congratulated by the City Government before (read my past blog posts by clicking here, here, here and here).

The Philippines claimed its first gold medal in the 2023 World Combat Games following the triumph of ju-jitsu fighter Kaila Jenna Napolis at the King Saud University Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).

“It’s my first time to qualify in such an event. It feels surreal to be able to get a gold medal especially here in the World Combat Games,” the 25-year-old Napolis told the Philippine News Agency on Thursday.

She scored a 2-0 victory over Anael Pannetier of France in the final of the women’s -52kg Ne-Waza.

“She looks intimidating by her stance and she’s a bit bigger than me so I’m very nervous going into the match. I feel like throwing up but I had to focus and give it my all because it is finals already,” shared Napolis, who defeated Adriana Cruz of Colombia, 6-0, in the quarterfinal and Mongljin Ganbaatar of Mongolia via submission in the semifinal.

“When I stepped on the mat, my mind was cleared already. I just wanna execute my techniques first and have a very good control on her,” added the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games gold medalist and Hangzhou Asian Games silver medalist.

Napolis was grateful to national coach John Baylon for accompanying her in the tournament.

“It’s my first time to travel alone without a teammate so I’m super thankful to coach John for helping me with the training here, assisting me with the schedules, being my corner man and masseur,” said Napolis, a member of the Paranaque-based Checkmat Manila Club headed by coach Manny Jimenez.

“Kaila deserved the gold medal, she trained hard and came here prepared,” said Baylon, a nine-time judo gold medalist in the SEA Games. He also competed in the 1988 (Seoul) and 1992 (Barcelona) Olympics.

Recently in the progressive city of Muntinlupa, it was announced that local senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and pregnant women will be able to vote in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) as early as 5AM on October 30, 2023, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Take note that Muntinlupa City is officially a pilot area for early voting for the vulnerable sectors.

Muntinlupa City has been chosen as a pilot area for early voting for vulnerable sectors in the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) chose Muntinlupa as the pilot location for the early voting project.

“We welcome this initiative by the Comelec to test new ways in the voting process especially to help persons with disabilities (PWDs), seniors, and pregnant women–those who are recognized as especially vulnerable–and make the voting process easier and more accessible for them,” said Mayor Ruffy Biazon.

According to Muntinlupa City Election Officer Atty. Kimberly Joy Alzate-Cu, under the early voting scheme, PWDs, seniors, and heavily pregnant women will be allowed to vote in their registered voting centers from 5 a.m. – 7 a.m.

This will prioritize the vulnerable sectors in the voting process and to help them avoid the rush of voters during the regular voting hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on election day.

To avail of early voting, one must be enrolled in the voting center’s Accessible Polling Precinct (APP), which is located nearest to the voting center’s entrance.

If they are not enrolled, they may still vote in the center’s Emergency Accessible Polling Precinct (EAPP). This scheme designates an alternative temporary precinct where the vulnerable voter may cast their vote.

However, unlike the APP, which has its own voting machine and other materials and personnel, in the EAPP, the voter’s ballot will be fetched from their regular precinct by the support staff.

In addition, a companion assisting the PWD, senior, or pregnant voter may also vote during the early voting hours, provided they are also registered in the same voting center as the individual they are accompanying.

Recently in the progressive city of Muntinlupa, the City Government congratulated once again Annie Ramirez and Kaila Napolis for winning medals in women’s jiu-jitsu (in different weight categories) at the Asian Games, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Take note that the two Muntinlupa-based athletes won medals also in the last Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

Mayor Ruffy Biazon congratulated two Muntinlupa residents who bagged medals at the 19th Asian Games being held in Hangzhou, China.

Biazon honored Annie Ramirez, who won a gold medal in jiu-jitsu (women’s 57kg), and Kaila Napolis, who bagged a bronze medal in  jiu-jitsu (women’s 52kg).

The Muntinlupa PIO released this online.

“Congratulations sa mga atletang Muntinlupeñong nagwagi sa 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022! (Congratulations to Muntinlupa athletes who won in the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022),” Biazon posted on Facebook.

Ramirez, a resident of Barangay Cupang in Muntinlupa, won the Philippines’ third gold medal in the Asian Games. She previously won a gold medal in jiu-jitsu women’s newaza nogi-57 kg category at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

Napolis is a resident of Barangay Poblacion. She previously won a gold medal in the jiu-jitsu women’s newasa gi-52 kg in the 32nd SEA Games.

Las Piñas-based 2023 SEA Games medalists commended by Mayor and Vice Mayor

Recently in the city of Las Piñas, Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar-Nery welcomed local residents and 2023 SEA Games medalists Jocel Lyn Ninobla and Ana Alicia “Khate” Castillo at City Hall and had a meeting together, the City Government announced via their Facebook page post dated June 2.

Two remarkable athletes, Jocel Lyn Ninobla and Ana Alicia “Khate” Castillo, who proudly represented the Philippines at the recently concluded 2023 South East Asian Games in Cambodia, paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar on Thursday, June 1st in City Hall.

Jocel Lyn Ninobla, an outstanding taekwondo athlete, won a prestigious Gold medal at the Women’s Recognized Team Poomsae event and a Bronze medal in the Mixed Recognized Pair Poomsae event, highlighting her versatility and talent in the discipline. Jocel, an alumna of Divine Light Academy in Las Piñas, returned to her hometown to express her gratitude to the city that played a significant role in her journey.

Accompanying Jocel was Ana Alicia “Khate” Castillo, a basketball athlete who secured a Silver medal at the Women’s 5×5 Basketball event. She is a proud graduate of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Las Piñas.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar commended Jocel and Khate for their dedication, hard work, and perseverance, which led them to excel on the international stage and bring glory to both the Philippines and Las Piñas City.
