Typhoon Enteng victims of Muntinlupa receive assistance from City Government

Very recently in the progressive City of Muntinlupa, local residents who got displaced by Typhoon Enteng received assistance from the City Government, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Mayor Ruffy Biazon and local officials visited the victims and distributed goods to them at the evacuation centers.

The Muntinlupa City government distributed relief goods on Sept. 3 to families that were affected by tropical storm Enteng and now temporarily sheltered in evacuation centers in the city.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon, together with city and barangay officials, went to different evacuation centers in barangays to distribute the goods.

On Sept. 2, Biazon went to Barangays Bayanan (which has the highest number of evacuees), Cupang and Poblacion.

The Victoria Homes and Villa Carolina 1 Subdivision in Barangay Tunasan were visited by Gender and Development Office focal point system Chairperson Trina Biazon together with Barangay Captain Dave Arcilla and former barangay captain Walter Arcilla and distributed hot meals.

Muntinlupa’s Social Services Department (SSD) also gave emergency kits that include hygiene supplies, basic kitchen utensils, gas stove, grocery items and rice.

The Muntinlupa City Health Office distributed doxycycline capsules to barangay health workers and evacuees as protection against leptospirosis.

Local hero of Muntinlupa City commended by Mayor Biazon

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, a man who risked his life to save his young relatives during a fire that destroyed their home was commended by Mayor Ruffy Biazon, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon commended a man for his heroic act of saving his two nephews and a niece from their burning house in Barangay Buli.

A fire hit a residential area in Manatra in Barangay Buli, Muntinlupa on Aug. 19, razing houses and displacing families.

Biazon visited the Buli evacuation center where 58 families or more than 200 individuals are staying. During his visit, Biazon met Freddie whose arms are bandaged due to burns.

According to the mayor, Freddie suffered burns when he rescued his two nephews and a niece–Precious, Vhon and Kerth–from their burning house during the fire.

He said the three children were trapped inside the comfort room and could not get out.

Precious was attending her online class when the fire erupted and quickly spread. Some of the family members were able to get out of the burning house but Precious and her two cousins were left inside and quickly went to the comfort room.

According to Precious, because of the intense heat, she didn’t know what to do and she seemed to have accepted what would happen to them.

Suddenly, their uncle Freddie arrived and he pulled them out of the burning house. The fire was already big but they all tried to get out.

Precious and her two cousins were very thankful to their Uncle Freddie for saving them and getting out without any injury.

They called their uncle a “superhero” and they are wishing that his burns would heal soon.

“Hanga ako kay Freddie sa kanyang tapang at walang pag-aatubili na pagligtas sa kanyang mga pamangkin. Although may injury, mabuti nakaligtas siya at sina Precious, Vhon, at Kerth (I am truly amazed at Freddie for his bravery and no hesitation to rescue his nephews and niece. Although he has injury, it’s good that he and Precious, Vhon and Kerth safely escaped),” Biazon said.

SM Investments Corporation acquiring 184 hectares of land in Muntinlupa City

Something significant could happen within the City of Muntinlupa in the near future as SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) is acquiring 184 hectares of land there as part of a property-for-shares swap with subsidiary Intercontinental Development Corporation (ICDC), according to a Manila Bulletin business news report.

SM Investments Corporation (SMIC), the flagship of the Sy family, is acquiring 184 hectares of land in Muntinlupa City from a nearly wholly-owned subsidiary, Intercontinental Development Corporation (ICDC), through a property-for-shares swap.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, SMIC said its Board has approved the swap of SMIC with 96.75 percent-owned subsidiary ICDC, which will convey to SMIC its lands in Susana Heights, Muntinlupa City, in exchange for new SMIC common shares.

“In accordance with applicable Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rules and regulations, the respective Boards of Directors of the SMIC and ICDC deemed it necessary and advisable to enter into the Transaction,” SMIC said.

It added that the swap aims to optimize the properties’ utilization and development and align with their broader business strategies.

SMIC said it will increase its real estate assets through the acquisition of the properties, although the acquisition will have no material effect on its business, financial condition, or operations.

One of the country’s biggest conglomerates, SMIC, reported a 10 percent improvement in consolidated net income to P40.2 billion in the first half of 2024 from P36.5 billion in the same period last year. The firm said this reflected a 13 percent growth in net income to P21.8 billion in the second quarter.

Consolidated revenues rose five percent in the first half to P301.4 billion from P286.7 billion year-on-year and grew six percent to P157.7 billion in the second quarter.

“SM’s double-digit growth in the first half results reflects a positive environment for our businesses,” said SM Investments President and CEO Frederic C. DyBuncio.

Recently the City Government of Muntinlupa won prestigious awards during the 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony which took place in Quezon City, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The Muntinlupa City government bagged awards at the 2024 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony organized by the National Nutrition Council (NNC)-National Capital Region on Aug. 16 at the Novotel Hotel in Quezon City.

According to NNC-NCR, Muntinlupa LGU “has been recognized as 1st Year Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) Maintenance Contender!”

The “prestigious award is presented to LGUs that demonstrate efficient and effective nutrition program management, leading to sustained nutrition improvements among their population.”

“We successfully maintained our CROWN (Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition) Contender status for the first year—patunay na consistent tayo sa mahusay na implementation ng ating nutrition programs and services since our first Green Banner Award in 2019 (proof that we are consistent in great implementation of our nutrition programs and services since our first Green Banner Award in 2019),” according to Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon.

In addition, Muntinlupa was bestowed the award for Best in Documentation of Nutrition Programs, “acknowledging their exemplary performance in documenting nutrition programs and projects which contributed to high-quality nutrition program management.”

Muntinlupa’s Dr. Magdalena Meana also won runner-up as the Regional Outstanding City Nutrition Action Officer (CNAO).

Biazon, meanwhile, received the Nutrition Leadership Award as chairperson of the Muntinlupa City Nutrition Committee.

“These awards reflect our dedication to keeping our community healthy,” said Biazon.

CMCI 2024: Muntinlupa is the 4th Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City of the nation, 1st on Innovation

The latest results of the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) for the year 2024 showed that the City of Muntinlupa is now the 4^th Most Competitive Highly Urbanized City (HUC) of the nation as well as a very high finisher among other categories including 1^st place on Innovation.

Muntinlupa City, which was the 5^th Most Competitive last year, scored 53.5967 points in total on Competitiveness among HUCs ranking 4^th out of 33 overall.

Along the way, the city scored 12.2489 points for 1^st place on the category of Innovation, 15.2697 points on Resiliency for 2^nd place, 10.1075 points on Infrastructure for 3^rd place, 11.9714 points on Government Efficiency for 6^th place, and 3.9992 points on Economic Dynamism for 17^th place. On the category of the Most Improved Rankings for 2024 among HUCs, Muntinlupa finished 7^th place.

In addition, the City of Muntinlupa won awards during the Creative Cities and Municipalities Congress held on August 23, 2024, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The awards are related to the CMCI 2024 research and results.

Muntinlupa City Government issues warning about quality of air in relation to Taal volcanic smog

In response to the smog from Taal Volcano that reached the City of Muntinlupa, the City Government issued a warning about the unhealthy air quality, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The Muntinlupa City government warned the public of unhealthy air quality on Aug. 18 as volcanic smog, or vog, from Taal Volcano had reached the city.

Residents woke up to hazy weather. Mayor Ruffy Biazon held a live broadcast on Facebook to warn residents to be careful when going out and advised them to wear masks for protection.

“While we were sleeping, the volcanic smog from Taal Volcano reached us,” he said, adding that he observed “hazy air.”

Biazon said children who are already in schools should stay in classrooms as the city government will continue to monitor air quality. If needed, the mayor said he will suspend afternoon classes. He also said it’s up to parents to decide.

“Tandaan ninyo, kung kayo ay hindi komportable na palabasin ang anak ninyo, huwag ninyo na palabasin (Remember, if you are not comfortable letting your child go out, don’t let them go out),” said Biazon.

The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management said the current air quality in Muntinlupa is “unhealthy.”

It explained that volcanic smog consists of sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas and other volcanic gasses that mixes with atmospheric oxygen, moisture, dust and sunlight.

“As a reminder, vog consists of fine droplets containing volcanic gas such as SO2 which is acidic and can cause irritation of the eyes, throat and respiratory tract with severities depending on the gas concentrations and durations of exposure. People who may be particularly sensitive to vog are those with health conditions such as asthma, lung disease and heart disease, the elderly, pregnant women and children,” according to a past advisory from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

According to the IQAir website, Muntinlupa has an air quality index (AQI) of 154 or unhealthy level. The PM2.5 concentration in Muntinlupa is 60 µg/m3, based on IQAir data.

“PM2.5 concentration in Muntinlupa is currently 12 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value. PM2.5 is measured by micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m3). According to the U.S. EPA NAAQS, any measurement greater than 9.0 μg/m3 (US AQI 50) can be dangerous to human health,” according to the website.

Mom Teodula Pesigan celebrated her 100th birthday with a P100,000 cash gift from the Muntinlupa City government.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon personally visited Pesigan at her house in Barangay Putatan to hand over the P100,000 gift, a program of the city government through its Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs.

“At her age, very sharp pa ang kanyang isip (At her age, her mind is still very sharp),” said Biazon.

When he asked about her secret to long life, her family responded that she likes to eat lechon and liempo.

“It was a great and fun experience na makilala at makausap si Nanay Dulay (It was a great and fun experience to meet and talk to Nanay Dulay),” the mayor added.

All centenarian residents of Muntinlupa get P100,000 cash gift under City Ordinance No. 2018-147.

Under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, all Filipinos aged 100 and above will be given cash gifts to recognize their contribution to the country, added Biazon.

Muntinlupa City Government officially denies release of P1,000 for elderly locals aged 70-79

In the City of Muntinlupa, the City Government issued an official denial in response to the circulating information that local senior citizens aged 70 to 79-years-old will be receiving P1,000 each from the local authorities, according to a GMA Network news report.

The local government of Muntinlupa City on Tuesday warned the public that it is not distributing P1,000 birthday cash gifts to residents who are 70 to 79 years old.

The city government noted that it is just currently doing surveys among its elderly residents to organize the city’s database.

“Kung mayroon man pong kumuha ng inyong impormasyon, ito ay para ito sa validation ng datos ng ating senior citizens. Gusto po nating maayos ang database at tama ang impormasyon na basehan ng mga programa ng lungsod,” the statement read.

(If anyone is asking for your information, this is only for the validation of our data on senior citizens. We just want to organize our database and make sure that we have the right information for the city’s programs.)

The city encouraged its residents to report any suspicious messages to the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group: (02) 8723 0401 (loc. 7491), 0968-8674302 (Smart), 0967-1360322 (Globe), and 0992-9893889 (DITO).

Further, the city government advised that senior citizens may reach out to the Office for Senior Citizen’s Affairs at the Bayanan Baywalk or the satellite office at South Park Center.

NLCOM helps Typhoon Carina victims in Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Manila and Cavite

Were there many people in your local community whose lives got disrupted by the weather effects of Typhoon Carina?

Recently New Life Community Care Foundation International, Inc. (NLCOM) – the compassion arm of New Life Philippines located inside Alabang Hills Village in Muntinlupa City – announced through social media that it has provided assistance and relief to typhoon victims in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Manila and Cavite.

Typhoon Carina has since left the Philippines but the people who got affected by it are still struggling to get back to normal. That being said, NLCOM’s assistance for the victims who called for help was crucial and their staff worked hard with the preparations of relief.

NLCOM immediately swung into action as Super Typhoon Carina left its trail of destruction on Thursday morning.

Its emergency response team was mobilized, coordinating with partners, conducting assessments, and delivering relief bags and hot meals to nearby areas gravely affected by the flooding.

A total of 200 relief bags were distributed to families in Baseco Compound (Port Area, Manila), Muntinlupa, and Pulang Lupa (Las Pinas) on July 25. We also served a total of 1,300 hot meals to flood victims the same day in Wawa (Bacoor Cavite), San Isidro, San Dionisio, and Sto Nino (all in Parañaque).

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, the opening of classes in public schools was observed by new Education Secretary Sonny Angara, Mayor Ruffy Biazon and Congressman Jaime Fresnedi, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Education Sec. Sonny Angara, Mayor Ruffy Biazon and Rep. Jaime Fresnedi visited a high school in Muntinlupa on July 29 to observe the opening of classes.

Biazon and Fresnedi accompanied Angara when he visited Muntinlupa National High School Main in NBP Reservation, Barangay Poblacion.

All public schools in Muntinlupa from Kindergarten to Senior High School opened on July 29 as scheduled.

Dr. Violeta Gonzales, head of the Schools Division Office (SDO)-Muntinlupa City, said the opening of classes pushed through since schools in the city were not affected by the onslaught of Habagat (southwest monsoon) and Typhoon Carina.

Many public schools in areas in the country that were hit by heavy rains and floods delayed the opening of classes.

“Ang announcement ng DepEd ay para lamang sa mga paaralang ginagamit pa bilang evacuation centers, binaha, at napinsala. Tayo po sa Muntinlupa, kasabay ng karamihan ng mga lungsod sa NCR, ay magbubukas ng klase bukas dahil maayos na po ang kondisyon ng ating mga paaralan (The announcement by DepEd [Department of Education] is only for schools being used as evacuation centers, flooded and damaged. We in Muntinlupa, along with the majority of cities in NCR, will open classes tomorrow because our schools are in good condition),” said Gonzales on July 28.

“We want to build what you have here para mas de-kalidad pa ang makukuha nyo in the coming years (We want to build what you have here so that you will get more high quality in the coming years),” said Angara.

He added, “We’re very pleasantly surprised with how smooth things run here. Sa ibang pinuntahan namin double shift. Ma-swerte po ang mga students dahil number one, unified ang political leaders dito, ang beneficiaries ng taong bayan. At secondly, very helpful ang city government and the national government to partner, dapat ganon para umunlad ang isang school district.”

Also accompanying Angara were DepEd Usec. Revsee Escubedo, Deped RD-NCR Joyce Andaya, MNHS principal Dr. Florante Marmeto and Gonzales.
