Over 10,000 public elementary school students receive scholarship allowance in Muntinlupa City

Recently in the progressive City of Muntinlupa, over ten thousand students enrolled in public elementary schools received their scholarship allowance from the City Government, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

A total of 10,273 students from public elementary schools received their scholarship allowance from the Muntinlupa City government.

The Muntinlupa Scholarship Division (MSD) of the city government distributed the first tranche of educational assistance amounting P2,500 to each student in seven public elementary schools in the city.

Under the first tranche of the educational assistance program, elementary pupils will get P2,500 each, junior high school students will receive P3,000 each, senior high school students will get P3,500 each, and students under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Program will receive P3,000 each covering six months.

According to the MSD, of the 10,273 students, the following received their educational assistance to date: Itaas Elementary School – 1,940 pupils; Sucat Elementary Zone 3, 402; Sucat Elementary School Zone 4 – 333; Muntinlupa Elementary School – 1,721; F. De Mesa Elementary School – 1,160; Buli Elementary School – 988; Putatan Elementary School – 1,960; and Tunasan Elementary School – 1,769.

The first tranche of educational assistance covers five months from August to December 2023.

The Muntinlupa City government announced the opening of a connecting road between two villages to ease traffic and provide easy access to residents.

The opening of the access road between the government housing project Katarungan Village and South Greenheights Village will happen soon.

According to the city government, the connecting road between R. Pamatina Street in Katarungan Village and Rosemary Street in South Greenheights Village is being built with the pavement being constructed, and installation of lights and security guard post.

The homeowners associations of the two villages signed a memorandum of agreement on Dec. 18 last year to approve the opening of the access road.

“Malaking kapakinabangan kasi they don’t have to go to the National Road papunta ng Daang Hari, Alabang o papunta ng Poblacion so magiging parang declogging road para doon sa dalawang villages (This will have huge benefit because they don’t have to go to the National Road to go to Daang Hari [Road] in Alabang or [Barangay] Poblacion so it will be like a declogging road for the two villages),” said City Administrator Allan Cachuela.

The award, which recognizes the city’s outstanding performance in local disaster risk reduction and management, comes after Las Piñas scored a 2.37 rating in the 23rd Gawad KALASAG Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices (LDRRMCOs) for the calendar year 2023. The Las Piñas City Health Office (CHO) launched a pneumonia vaccination drive in two communities to safeguard the health of the city’s senior citizens on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Las Piñas Vice-Mayor April Aguilar said the vaccination drive was held at Barangays Almanza Dos and Pamplona Tres with over 1,100 senior citizens getting the pneumonia vaccine.

Aguilar said the vaccination drive is part of the city’s ongoing effort to protect the elderly population who are vulnerable to respiratory diseases like pneumonia.

She said the initiative is especially crucial as pneumonia remains one of the leading causes of illness and death among senior citizens in the Philippines.

The vice-mayor who supervised the vaccination drive emphasized the local government’s commitment to the health and well-being of the senior residents.

BIR now capable of tracking social media influencers’ earnings

Social media influencers of the Philippines who make a lot of money should be aware that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) now has methods to track their earnings online, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. As far as the BIR is concerned, the influencers cannot hide from them.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has cautioned social media influencers considering tax evasion, emphasizing that the agency has mechanisms to accurately ascertain the earnings of all individuals involved.

BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. said the bureau has various methods to effectively obtain and verify the actual earnings of influencers by collaborating with their online platform providers.

“If others think they can hide it, they’re mistaken. We have mechanisms in place to obtain information from these entities about their revenues, so we can access that data,” Lumagui told reporters on Wednesday, Jan. 24.

The BIR categorizes social media influencers as individuals who generate income from their digital posts, identifying them as self-employed individuals operating as sole proprietors.

Despite the BIR’s best efforts, there have been numerous reports indicating that many social media influencers have chosen to ignore the bureau’s requests for voluntary compliance with tax laws.

In 2021, the BIR launched a campagin to address tax non-compliance among influencers, targeting around 250 prominent social media personalities who were believed to have earned substantial incomes and received various benefits.

Under Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 97-2021, influencers are required to pay their income and business tax obligations, including either a percentage tax or a value-added tax.

However, the BIR faced a setback after several influential figures promptly deactivated their social media accounts for various reasons following the issuance of RMC 97-2021.

The Las Piñas City government received various recognitions for its commitment to excellence in public service and community development.

Vice-Mayor April Aguilar, who led the regular flag raising ceremony on Monday, Jan. 15 held at the City Hall grounds, thanked the national bodies for the recognition given to the city government.

Aguilar said the city was honored with a Plaque of Recognition for its active role in the 2023 Parañaque KALIPI Summit, emphasizing its contributions to women’s empowerment and nation-building.

She said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) awarded the city for its exemplary implementation of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps), highlighting its timely submission of monitoring tools and effective program execution.

The DSWD also recognized the city for its effective management of social welfare programs like the KADIWA and supplementary feeding programs.

The vice-mayor also said the chief of Public Information Office, Paul Ahljay San Miguel, received a Certificate of Recognition from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation and the Most Outstanding Tourism Officers Club/Association award from the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines, Inc.

Aguilar said the recognition from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation underscored the city’s dedication to health care and tourism development.

She said the National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC) also recognized the city government for its support to the press community.

#1 The precise differences between Christianity and Islam, Lord Jesus and Muhammad, and the Holy Bible and the Quran explained – The YouTube channel HolyLandSite is a favorite of mine as it has published a lot of very credible and detailed explanatory videos about the Holy Land in Israel, Christianity, the Jews and how everything is connected with the Holy Bible (the Word of God). In the recent video they published recently, the precise differences between Christianity and Islam, between Lord Jesus and Muhammad, and between the Holy Bible and the Quran are explained in detail by Pastor Todd. I strongly recommend watching the video below…

#2 The deep hatred of the Palestinians towards Israel explained – There is no doubt that hatred, violence and murder are core values that the Palestinians have been oriented with while living under very evil leaders (murderer/terrorist Yasser Arafat is just one of them). To date, there are very few Palestinians who overcame their evil orientation and pushed back against their evil leaders to become good people. In the video below, YouTuber Oren explains in detail why so many Palestinians grew up with hate and live by hate towards Israel and its people. #3 Remembering the past video game company Working Designs – It has been almost twenty years since American game company Working Designs closed down and ended their business. For the newcomers reading this, Working Designs is best known for localizing several video games from different Japanese companies for the North American market and among their best known releases were Lunar: The Silver Star Story, Lunar: Eternal Blue, Dragon Force and Magic Knight Rayearth. Their business history is very interesting to examine and for your viewing pleasure, posted below is one video about Working Designs’ legacy and another video about their games released across different platforms.

#4 Man of Steel video reviews, analysis, trivia and reaction videos – The cinematic universe of DC Comics superheroes that started in 2013’s Man of Steel is officially over and the newest film Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom won’t match its predecessor’s massive commercial success. Unofficially referred to as the DCEU (DC Extended Universe), the past cinematic universe of Warner Bros. had a very inconsistent record of commercial and critical results. That being said, it is high time to go all the way back to the very beginning with Man of Steel (starring Henry Cavill as Superman) through a series of varied videos I found for you to watch.

#5 DeepStar Six videos – Believe it or not, way back in 1989 there was not one, not two, but three movies that had underwater settings. One of them was DeepStar Six which was directed by original Friday The 13^th movie director Sean S. Cunningham and, for some reason, was released in cinemas here in the Philippines with the title “Alien from the Deep.” While it grossed less than Leviathan and was made for a fraction of the budget of James Cameron’s The Abyss, DeepStar Six still has a long-lasting following and different kinds of videos about it were made. Muntinlupa City’s residents and achievements highlighted during 106th founding anniversary celebration

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, the outstanding residents and the achievements of the city were highlighted by Mayor Ruffy Biazon during the celebration of the city’s 106th founding anniversary, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon paid tribute to outstanding residents, including most valuable player in basketball Karl Kevin Argana Quiambao, and cited the gains of the city government this year as Muntinlupa celebrated its 106th founding anniversary on Dec. 19.

“Today, we stand on the shoulders of those who came before us, proud inheritors of a legacy that stretches back over a century. In fact, it has been 38,690 days since Muntinlupa was established as an independent municipality by the stroke of a pen by an American Governor-General of the Philippines,” said Biazon in his address at the anniversary celebration.

It was on Dec. 19, 2017 when Governor-General Francis Burton Harrison signed Executive Order No. 108 that made Muntinlupa a municipality.

“Muntinlupa remains a beacon of strength and resilience. Our city has weathered storms, both literal and metaphorical, and emerged stronger each time. As we reflect on the past year, let us not only acknowledge the challenges we faced but also celebrate the victories, both big and small, that have shaped our community,” said Biazon.

Awards – Biazon cited the different awards the Muntinlupa City government received this year.

One of them was the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), which, he said, meant that the city government has been delivering excellent services to the public.

Muntinlupa also received eight awards at the Urban Governance Exemplar Awards of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In city competitiveness, said Biazon, Muntinlupa garnered third place in resiliency and infrastructure pillars and fifth place overall most competitive local government unit among highly urbanized cities in the country.

Muntinlupa also received the Green Banner Seal of Compliance Award, “the highest recognition given to LGUs for its sustainable intervention programs to combat and completely eradicate malnutrition especially among children.”

“Each individual department and office of the City Government also has its own share of victories and triumphs. In the past year alone, we have welcomed and hosted several fellow local governments (cities and municipalities) both from Metro Manila and the provinces which conducted benchmarking activities and learning visits in the City,” said Biazon.

Outstanding residents – Biazon named residents who stood out in their respective fields this year.

One of them is tricycle driver Dexter Pacquiao from Barangay Cupang who returned P413,000 in cash that was left by an overseas Filipino worker (OFW).

Quiambao, a resident of Barangay Bayanan, was also hailed by the mayor for being the MVP in basketball in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86.

Biazon also mentioned athletes who won medals for the country in different sports events including the 19th Asian Games.

Among them were Asian Games gold medalist Annie Ramirez of Barangay Cupang who won the feat in the Jiu-Jitsu Women’s 57KG category, and bronze medalist Kaila Napolis of Barangay Poblacion who bagged the award in the Jiu-Jitsu Women’s 52KG category.

He also cited brothers Shugen at Keisei Nakano who won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in judo in the 32nd SEA Games, and Daryl Mercado who won a bronze medal in the same sport.

The mayor also mentioned three students of Colegio de Muntinlupa who competed in the 2023 Vex Robotics World Championship. They were Arthur Simundac, Kenneth De Guzman, and Mark Lawrence Ragus.

“It has been 437 days since I assumed the post of Mayor of Muntinlupa City. It is not just the leaders who make reform and progress happen..it is often the hard work of those on the ground,” said Biazon.

He added, “We are here now celebrating this significant day because of all the men and women who showed up, who fought hard, whose battles were marred by defeat and victory, but showed up nonetheless in the arena.”

Muntinlupa Mayor Biazon hopes Maynilad’s new water treatment plant in the city will solve water service interruptions

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon is hoping that Maynilad’s new water treatment plant in the city will solve water service interruptions that are being experienced by residents.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of Maynilad’s Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Muntinlupa on Dec. 15.

“We hope this new facility will help address challenges in water supply in Muntinlupa,” posted Biazon on Facebook.

Biazon joined the inauguration along with Muntinlupa Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, Poblacion Barangay Chairman Allen Ampaya, Environment Sec. Maria Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) Administrator Leonor Cleofas, and Maynilad Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan.

According to Maynilad, the Poblacion WTP has a capacity to produce 150 million liters of water per day.

Biazon said this December, the plant is expected to produce 50 million liters per day, and by the first half of 2024, it will go on full operations.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM) led today, December 15, 2023, the formal inauguration of Maynilad’s Poblacion Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Muntinlupa City.

Maynilad said the new WTP cost P11 billion and it is the company’s third water treatment facility that gets raw water from the Laguna Lake.

It said the new plant will service about one million customers in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Cavite.

“The additional water supply it produces will help to minimize service interruptions due to raw water quality shifts in Laguna Lake, which have been occurring with more frequency owing to the effects of climate change,” the company said in a press release.

It said the new treatment plant uses a multi-stage process of dissolved air flotation, cloth filter, biological aerated filter, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and chlorination to ensure that the water from Laguna Lake passes the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water (PNSDW) of the Department of Health.

DILG Secretary Abalos eyes total ban on firecrackers nationwide

Fire crackers should be banned in all local government units in the country, according to Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos on Monday.

In an ambush interview, Abalos said some local government units have already imposed a total ban on firecrackers and just designated an area for fireworks display.

“Marami naman tayong mga lungsod at mga munisipyo na mayroong ganito. Sana lahatin na natin. Kaya ako ay nananawagan sana naman magkaroon na tayo ng ganitong ordinansa,” Abalos said.

(There are many cities and municipalities that passed an ordinance on banning firecrackers, I hope all cities and municipalities will do the same. That is why I am calling for them to pass an ordinance already.)

“Anyway, kaya naman i-celebrate ang Bagong Taon nang maayos. Magkaroon ng fireworks display na lamang sa mga munisipyo sa isang lugar at maiwasan natin iyong ganitong disgrasya,” he added.

(Anyway, we can celebrate the New Year orderly. We should have a fireworks display in the municipalities in one area and avoid accidents.)
