Philippines Wins Three Triathlon Relay Gold Medals At The 2025 SEA Games

The Philippines won the gold medals in the all-women triathlon relay, the all-men triathlon relay and the mixed triathlon events of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) held yesterday in Thailand which has since been reported by GMA News (click here) and the Philippine Daily Inquirer (click here and here) and revealed via social media by Triathlon Philippines and the Philippine Sports Commission (click here, here, here and here). The Philippines continued its golden surge in the 2025 SEA Games after its triathlon teams delivered a pair of gold medals on Wednesday in Thailand.

The men’s and women’s squads both ruled the team relay competitions, adding two more gold medals to the country’s tally with three days left in the biennial event.

The women’s team, composed of Kira Ellis, Kim Mangrobang, and Raven Alcoseba, reigned supreme after clocking in one hour, 10 minutes, and 14 seconds.

Indonesia’s Martina Ayu Pratiwi, Kayla Nadia Shafa, and Renata Berliana Aditya copped the silver with 1:10:48 while Singapore’s Yen Ling Kathlyn Yeo, Louisa Marie Middleditch, and Herlene Natasha Yu settled for bronze with 1:12:00.

The Philippine men’s team also shone with Aki Lorbes, Matthew Hermosa, and Fernando Casares by finishing the relay in one hour, four minutes, and five seconds.

The Philippines proved its dominance in triathlon after ruling the mixed team relay in the 2025 Southeast Asian Games on Wednesday in Thailand.

The quartet of Kira Ellis, Fernando Casares, Kim Remolino, and Raven Alcoseba dominated the event to clinch the country’s third triathlon gold medal.

Earlier, Ellis and Alcoseba teamed up with Kim Mangrobang to reign supreme in the women’s team relay while Cesares connived with Aki Lorbes and Matthew Hermosa to emerge victorious in the men’s team relay event.

The Philippines first stamped its authority in the mixed relay back in 2019, with former triathlon stars John Chicano, Maria Claire Adorna, along with Mangrobang and Casares, leading the charge to gold.

In the sports story of the Manila Standard, a tactical move was done which turned out to be crucial in achieving the gold medal victories.

For the newcomers reading this, yesterday was the 2^nd day of SEA Games action for the Philippine’s multisport team. There are still other multisport contests pending as of this writing.

Team Philippines nabbed two silver medals and a bronze in the aquathlon in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games on Tuesday at Leam Mae Phim, Klaeng Distic in Rayong.

Kira Ellis, Matthew Hermosa, Raven Faith Alcoseba, and Andrew Remolino clocked 1:04:58 to finish with a silver medal in the mixed team relay final.

The group fell short of surpassing Indonesia’s 1:04:14 as the latter won gold in the event. Malaysia finished with a bronze medal, finishing the race at 1:08:37.

Ellis, with Erika Nicole Burgos and Kim Mangrobang, also had a runner-up finish in the women’s relay final, with a time of 51:46.

Indonesia escaped the Philippines anew, winning the gold with a time of 51:23. Singapore won bronze with a 53:58 finish.

Remolino, Inaki Emil Lorbes, and Joshua Alexander Ramos earned a bronze medal from the men’s relay event, clocking 47:52.

Aliligay and Salazar Triumph In National Duathlon Championships 2025

Lowegene Aliligay and Katrina Salazar emerged as the champions of the National Duathlon Championships (NDC) 2025 held yesterday at Villar City, Bacoor, Cavite.

Lowegene Aliligay of Isabela ruled the men’s elite division Sunday in the National Duathlon Championships at the Villar City in Bacoor, Cavite.

The 26-year-old registered 58:51 to claim his first National title.

“I trained for two months to prepare for this tournament and I am so happy and proud of my achievement here,” said Aliligay, who hails from Barangay San Fabian in Echague town.

Daniel Cadavos (58:56) placed second followed by Mark Ryan Lago of Trece Martires, Cavite (1:01:57).

Katrina Salazar shared the limelight with Aliligay, dominating the women’s division with a time 1:07:25. Jena Valdez (1:08:30) got the silver medal.

Salazar, a third-year dentistry student from University of the East, secured her second gold medal this year after her victory in the National Aquathlon Championships last month.

Meanwhile, Eric Joachim Hechanova of Go-for-Gold clocked 58:38 to win the gold medal in the men’s junior elite division of the event organized by Triathlon Philippines headed by Tom Carrasco.

His teammate Justhene Navaluna took the silver with a time of 58:59 while Darell Johnson Bada (1:00:53) got the bronze.

“The course was good and I’m happy to win,” said the 17-year-old Hechanova, who hails from Lingayen, Pangasinan. He won the 5,000 meters event at the 2024 Batang Pinoy National Championships in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Anisha Eunice Caluya clocked 1:13:08 followed by Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy (1:13:28) in the women’s junior division of the event supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.

The National Duathlon Championships 2025 is special event by Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) supported by venue partner Villar City, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corporation and RaceYa.

This past weekend, Philippine team members Irienold Reig, Jr., and Katrina Almuete Salazar won the Sprint Elite titles of the 2025 National Aquathlon Championships in Quezon City. The official race results have been released online by Triathlon Philippines (click here).

Irienold Reig hugged the limelight in the National Aquathlon Championships 2025 after dominating the sprint men’s elite division Sunday at the Amoranto Sports Center in Quezon City.

The Quezon City resident clocked 17 minutes and 11 seconds.

Juan Miguel Tayag of Angeles City, Pampanga bagged the silver medal with a time of 17:20 while Daniel Cadavos of Bukidnon settled for the bronze medal in 17:41.

“The goal is to win and I’m glad that I accomplished it today,” said Reig, who placed third behind Joshua Alexander Ramos and Iñaki Emil Lorbes in the Standard Elite category of the National Age Group Aquathlon at the Ayala-Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite last March.

Reig (7:20) was behind Tayag (7:17) in the swim stage, but came back strong in the running stage with a time of 9:18 against Tayag’s 9:30.

“I’ll keep on training and hope to win more titles,” said Reig, runner-up to Matthew Hermosa in the Sun Life 5150 Bohol triathlon last July.

Katrina Almuete Salazar, a fourth year dentistry student from University of the East, topped the women’s Elite division in 19 minutes and 23 seconds.

“I’m happy with my performance, this is a training race just to chck my condition,” said Salazar, who competed in the Asian Triathlon Cup in Gamagori, Japan last week.

In the junior category, Darell Johnson Bada was crowned champion in the men’s division after crossing the finish line with a time 0f 16 minutes and 51 second. Giro Don Rafael Gito (17:13) was second followed by John Micheal Lalimos (17:16).

The women’s title went to Anisha Eunice Caluya, who clocked 18:53. Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy (19:57) took the silver medal while Qaantreulle Light Wangkay (21:22) bagged the bronze medal.

Quezon City Vice Mayor Gian Sotto awarded the medals to the podium finishers.

“Thank you for the Triathlon Philippines for giving us the opportunity, thank you for partnering with us in the government to make everything possible,” said Sotto, who was accompanied by Amoranto Sports Complex head Martin Julian Vicente Manese.

Kira Ellis Wins 2025 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Title

This past weekend, national triathlete Kira Ellis achieved tremendous honor for the Philippines by winning the gold in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup held at Riga, Latvia, according to a Manila Bulletin sports news report.

For the newcomers reading this, Kira Ellis came back from injury and was sidelined for several months which makes her victory in Latvia even more special not only for her career but for the entire nation. Triathlete Kira Ellis lived up to her lofty billing as she captured the Junior Women crown in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Cup in Riga, Latvia over the weekend.

Despite being the lone Filipina and Asian in the class, Ellis, 18, impressed and timed in one hour, five minutes, and seven seconds in the 750m-swim, 22km-bike, and 5.1km-run event to outshine 15 other foreign rivals.

It was also a sort of stellar comeback for Ellis who suffered a shin splint (medial tibial stress syndrome) that sidelined her for six months.

The feat just added to Ellis’ trophy collection that includes golds in 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup in Malaysia and in 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

Bada, Okuma rule Junior Elite contests in 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup

Filipino Darell Johnson Bada dominated the Sprint Junior Elite Men during the 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup held yesterday at the Subic Freeport Zone.

Bada won the gold with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 46 seconds (1:01:46). Japan’s Main Takata (1:02:10) and Filipino John Michael Lalimos (1:02:26) were second and third, respectively.

“I really want to win so I did my best,” said Bada, who finished third last year with a time of 1:03:22.

“The swim was very hard, the bike was challenging, I broke away early in the running stage,” he added.

Euan Arrow Ramos, the U15 super sprint champion last year, settled for eighth place with a time of 1:07:38. He dropped one of his shoes after the swim phase but still registered the fastest time of 33:08 in the bike phase. However, he ran out of energy in the running stage.

In the Junior Elite Women contest, Yukiho Okuma of Japan clocked 1:08:13 to prevail over Filipinos Anisha Eunice Caluya (1:11:18) and Aira Danara Gregorio (1:12:17).

National athlete Kira Ellis, who has a shin injury, did not finish the race. She clocked 10:16 in swimming and 34:36 in cycling but skipped the running phase as advised by her coaches and physical therapist.

Meanwhile, Dustine Dan Eslay of 2600 Baguio topped the men’s 16-19 category in 1:07:24. in the sprint age group category of the tournament supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, Century Tuna, Sante Barley, Milo and Gatorade as the official hydration partner.

Winners in the men’s standard age group were Andie Jimeno (18-24), Rafael Sawali (25-29), Tristan Rene Santos (30-34), Mike Kramer (35-39), Craig Douglas (40-44), Marvin Baldemor (45-49), Junrox Roque (50-54), JT Gonzales (55-59), Cristobal Olivas (60-over).

In the sprint para category, the gold medalists were Edison Badillo (men PTS2); Raul Angoluan (men PTS3); Alex Silverio (men PTS4); Jerome Nelmida and Shyrnel Amiladjid (men PTVI); and Steven and Audrey Coleman (special category).

Japanese win Elite titles of 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup

Triathletes from Japan lived up to their billing as the best in Asia as Takuto Oshima and Manami Hayashi emerged as the Elite Male and Elite Female champion, respectively, in the 2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup yesterday at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Oshima, No. 25 in the continental ranking and 151st in the world, and teammate top seed Maeda Ryousuke paced together the grind with Kazakh Daryn Konysbayev closing on them in the run stage.

Oshima, whose most recent podium finish was 2nd place in the 2025 Asia Triathlon Cup Chennai, clocked in 1 hour 50 minutes and 25 seconds with Konysbayev snatching the runner-up honors, 27 seconds behind. Maeda settled for third in 1:51:16.

The Elite Women contest ran true to form as odds-on favorite Hayashi turn the 31st staging of what is more popularly known as SUBIT her own show from start to finish she covered in 2:04:58.

Two Koreans joined Hayashi—Gaycon Park and Hyo Rim Jeong—at the podium of the one of the premier Asian triathlons with the former placing second (2:05:21) and the latter third (2:06:25).

Dayshaun Ramos was the top Filipino finisher at 14th position with a time of 1:54:53 and Raven Alcoseba as the # 1 Filipina, just off the top 10, checking in 2:14:16, in the event where the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority was the venue partner; with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Century Tuna, Sante Barley, Milo and Gatorade as major sponsors and Western Guaranty Assurance Corp., Subic Bay Travelers-Hotel and Fitbar as supporters.

Diego Dimayuga pounced on the tentativeness of his teammate at Coach D Academy in T2 (10 seconds longer) as he retained his title in the Boys 13-15 while Japanese Miharu Oka prevailed in Girls 13-15.

The last time the Japanese dominated the SUBIT was 2002.

If you are interested to learn swimming during the summer season, be aware that the Summer Swimming Lessons 2025 program at Tropical Palace Resort Hotel in BF International, Las Piñas City will begin on April 30, 2025 and already enrollment is ongoing.

Coach Alec Dequiña will lead the teaching of the swimming lessons. Inside Tropical Palace Resort Hotel are the main swimming pool (rectangular) and the small pool (for younger and smaller swimmers).

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! Yesterday in Vietnam, John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa won the duathlon (run-bike-run) titles for the Philippines during the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships.

Duathletes John Patrick Ciron and Merry Joy Trupa emerged as champions in contrasting fashion in the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup & National Championships in Tam Chuc Complex, Vietnam.

Ranked No. 75 in World Triathlon ranking and 11th placer in the February in the Asian Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain, Ciron covered 5km run, 30km bike and 5km grind in 1 hour 1 minute and 30 seconds (1:01:30).

Ciron finished 1 min and1 sec clear of heavy favorite Pam Tien San, the Hanoi and Cambodia Southeast Asian Games duathlon titleholder, who prevailed over Indonesian Parth Sachin Mirage in a photo finish.

Trupa, who in February earned a ticket for the World Games along top Filipino triathlete Kim Mangrobang and Franklin Yee, climbed the top of the podium on a technicality.

Finishing second unofficially (1:04;14), 41 sec behind Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Tuy Van, she was declared the gold medalist when Nguyen was disqualified on account of failure to serve her penalty for an infraction.

Sharing the victory stand with Trupa were a couple of Singaporeans—Louisa Marie Middleditch, runner-up (1:04:19), and Rachel Hew, bronze medalist (1:05:01).

Sam Corpuz who sees action in the championships that mimics the SEA Games where triathlon, aquathlon and duathlon are included in the program, along with Ciron and Tropa plus Coach Raymond Torio are supported by both Jeremy Go of Go for Philippines and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Dimayuga wins silver medal for Philippines in Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025

A surprise package in the youngest bet, Diego Jose Dimayuga, prevented PHI from medal shutout in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025 in Hong Kong yesterday.

Dimayuga, mentored by Doray Ellis, snatched the silver medal in the 13-15 years category, aggregating 35 minutes and 32 seconds on splits of 00:05:43 swim (T1/15 sec), 19 min bike (T2/1 min 27 sec) and 8 min 7 sec bike.

Going into the run after the 400-meter swim and 11-km bike, Dimayuga, the self-funded grandson of ex-University of the Philippines regent Francis Laurel, and eventual champion, hometown favorite Yik Hei Lau were neck-and neck.

Yik poured it on in the 2.5-Kilometer run that saw him breast the tape at 35:40, 52 seconds ahead of Dimayuga. Completing the podium finishers was another Hong Kongite, Tze Kiu Tam, who finished 11 seconds behind Dimayuga.

The other members of the PHI squad supported by Philippine Sports Commission seeing action in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships Hong Kong 2025 included: Raven Alcoseba, Sam Corpus, Erika Burgos, Kim Remolino, Mateo Hermosa, Dash and Josh Ramos.

Team manager is Ting Joson with Doray Ellis, Louann Ramos and Andoy Remolino as coaches.
