The Philippine government reaffirmed its commitment to further strengthen its partnership with Israel, spanning key areas, such as agriculture and security.

Speaking at the Israel Independence Day reception in Makati on Thursday night, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jesus Domingo said Manila is eager to “further strengthen” this multifaceted partnership with the Jewish state.

Domingo said the two states share a deep and unique friendship rooted in history when the Philippines opened its door to Jewish people fleeing the Holocaust and voted in favor of a United Nations resolution to establish the State of Israel.

“These historical cornerstones form the bedrock of our strong bilateral ties over the decades, our relationship continues to expand,” he said, citing the dynamic Philippine-Israel cooperation on agriculture, technology and innovation, and security.

People-to-people connections, he added, have grown through tourism, culture exchanges, and the two nations’ shared democratic values.

“We are confident that by continuing to work together, we can achieve greater prosperity and security for both our nations and contribute positively to the global community,” he said.

Outgoing Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss, meanwhile, conveyed similar hopes for stronger Philippine-Israel relations as he noted the new depth in the two states’ partnership over the past years.

This newest development shows the continuing growth of Israel-Philippines ties through the high level officials during the event in Makati. Even as anti-Semitism intensifies and Islamo-Leftists forces (including their mainstream news media partners-in-crime) around the world keep on condemning Israel, the government of the Philippines still recognizes the Jewish state and values Israel-Philippines ties. Pray to the Lord that President Bongbong Marcos will make moves for better engagement with Israel.

Overseas, Israel is making notable progress against the remaining forces of the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in Gaza, while keeping a close watch on the terrorist state Iran which itself is negotiating with Trump-led America. Watch closely what will happen next and never lose sight on the deceptive moves of the sinister leaders of Qatar who openly support Palestinian terrorists, hate Israel and shamelessly propagate Islamic terrorism through Al Jazeera.

To my fellow Filipinos reading this, I encourage you to accept the truth that Israel is the land God designated specifically for the Jewish people (read Genesis 35:10-12) and His command must be followed without hesitation. If you want to be blessed further by the Lord, do so by loving and blessing the Jewish people (Genesis 12:1-3). I did my part when I was in Israel. Also, let me remind you all that the ties between the Jews and Christians are truly biblical!

I encourage you all to pray to the Lord God in support of Israel, to love and bless the Jewish people, and pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray to Him so that Israel-Philippines ties and cooperation will keep growing stronger and more resilient no matter what happens around the world.

If you truly believe in Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit and God the Heavenly Father wholeheartedly and you continue to be faithful, you should be aware that Christians are meant to stand united with Israel and love the Jewish people no matter what. Do not forget to read the Holy Bible, then pray in tongues to the Lord in the privacy of your room with the door shut.

Always be the fearless and aggressive church of Lord Jesus! Always stand in support of Israel and its ties with the Philippines!

Parañaque City’s incoming 2nd District Representative Brian Yamsuan aims to reduce people dependence on ayuda (dole outs) as he stepped up the implementation of the government’s livelihood programs, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Part of his efforts include the refiling of bills in the next Congress.

For context about what happened in the recent elections, Yamsuan ran under the Team Pag-Asa banner and his teammates include Vice Mayor-elect Benjo Bernabe, and the re-elected City Councilors Tess de Asis, Binky Favis and Shannin Olivarez. Yamsuan won over 2nd District Representative Gus Tambunting with a lead of almost ten thousand votes. Parañaque City 2nd district Representative-elect Brian Raymund Yamsuan has stepped up the implementation of the government’s livelihood programs in a bid to reduce district folk’s dependence on “ayuda” or dole outs.

Yamsuan said he has begun exploring tie-ups with non-government organizations (NGOs) to assist in training qualified beneficiaries of his “Dagdag-Puhunan” and “Bigay-Negosyo” entrepreneurship programs.

The solon, who represents Bicol Saro Party-list in the 19th Congress, has been implementing these in the district since last year in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Yamsuan also said he will re-file bills in the incoming 20th Congress that aim to create local job facilitation offices for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs), and promote entrepreneurship by creating a sustainable financing program for micro and small enterprises, to name a few.

“Ang kailangan natin mabigyan ng mga oportunidad ang mga tao na umangat ang kanilang estado ng pamumuhay. Hindi yung basta magbibigay lang tayo ng ayuda ng walang follow-through. Ang pagbabago magsisimula rin sa mga tao mismo. Bibigyan natin sila ng oportunidad para magtiwala sila sa kanilang sarili na makapagbago at mag-rely sa kanilang kakayahan sa halip na umasa na lamang sa ayuda,” Yamsuan said in a recent media interview.

(What we need is to provide opportunities for people to elevate their standard of living, instead of just giving dole outs without any follow-through. Change will start with the people themselves. We will provide them the opportunity so that they will have the confidence to change and rely on their capabilities instead of just depending on dole outs.)

This “follow through” involves providing livelihood training and seminars for ‘ayuda’ beneficiaries to encourage them to set up micro businesses and “graduate” from being doleout recipients, he said.

Yamsuan said his Dagdag-Puhunan and Bigay Negosyo programs provide comprehensive livelihood training for applicants before they can qualify as beneficiaries. 

These programs will be enhanced to include financial literacy seminars to educate people on how to prudently save, spend or invest their ayuda or earnings from livelihood programs.

“Ang ‘ayuda’ kailangan pa rin yan ng ating mga mahihirap na kababayan, kasi pantawid nila yan (Our poor countrymen still need dole outs because it will serve as a lifeline for them),” But we will teach them how to use it wisely. The same goes for those who have received assistance through our livelihood programs,” Yamsuan said.

Yamsuan said his twin programs can lead to success stories if beneficiaries use the funds given to them wisely.

This past weekend in the City of Muntinlupa, local police officers aided by barangay officials apprehended suspects who were responsible for the theft of brass markers of a city monument, according to a GMA Network news report.

The brass markers of a monument honoring World War II guerillas in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa City were found stolen.

The suspects were arrested through the efforts of the police and barangay officials, and will face charges, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon said he went to the Philippine National Police (PNP) station at Alabang Junction where the suspects were brought for investigation.

The suspects revealed that they sold the brass markers to a certain junk shop. The junk shop owner will also face charges for violation of the Anti-Fencing Law. Biazon however said the brass markers may have already been melted.

Earlier, the local government unit offered a P100,000 reward to anyone who can give information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects in the theft of the brass markers.

The monument is located at the plaza of Barangay Alabang. Every February 4, the city recognizes the sacrifice and heroism of the guerillas during World War II.

Trade Secretary Cristina Roque has met with executives of Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation (PPIH) to expand trade opportunities for Philippine products.

PPIH is the Japanese retail powerhouse behind Don Quijote and Don Don Donki store chains.

In a statement on Tuesday, DTI said the meeting, held on May 19 in Tokyo, centered on expanding the sourcing of Philippine products for inclusion in PPIH’s global store network, particularly in Japan, the United States, and other Asian markets.

The recent engagement with PPIH officials is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to deepen trade and investment ties with key global partners, with the representatives from both parties eyeing collaborative solutions to address regulatory and packaging requirements, facilitating smoother entry of Philippine products into foreign retail markets.

During the meeting, PPIH expressed strong interest in increasing the visibility of Filipino-made goods in their retail ecosystem, both as standalone Philippine-branded products and as ingredients or components for Japanese-packaged offerings tailored to local markets.

PPIH identified food and wellness items, natural and sustainable home goods, and unique lifestyle products as key areas of sourcing interest.

They also expressed interest to connect directly with more Philippine exporters and manufacturers, beyond current intermediaries, to gain better access to new and trending products.

“We welcome every opportunity to introduce Filipino products to the world — especially through partners who share our commitment to innovation, inclusion, and excellence. The nine foreigners – who had two Filipino companions – who were recently caught in the Cebu airport carrying undeclared amounts of cash of over P440 million and some foreign currency will be deported after their local cases get resolved, according to a GMA Network news report.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Tuesday it is seeking to deport the nine foreigners arrested at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport for carrying undeclared bags of cash amounting to over P440 million.

According to Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval, the deportation proceedings are ongoing.

The nine foreigners and two Filipinos were arrested by the Philippine National Police Aviation Security as they were attempting to board a private plane to Manila at about 10:30 p.m.

The suspects—including six Chinese and individuals from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Kazakhstan—were found carrying seven bags instead of the declared three bags containing up to P441,922,542, USD$168,730 (around P9.342 Million), and HKD$1,000 (around P71,000).

The BI said that aside from deportation proceedings, the group may also face criminal and anti-money laundering charges before local courts.

NEWLY proclaimed Parañaque 2nd District Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan assured his new constituents that achieving his goal of elevating the standard of public service in the district would be characterized by fair and equal treatment for all.

Yamsuan made this assurance following his stunning win over the district’s long-time incumbent congressman, Gus Tambunting.

At the May 10 miting de avance of Yamsuan and his fellow candidates under Team Pagasa, he made this fearless forecast: “Ako si Brian Yamsuan, ang magiging susunod na congressman ng District 2 ng lungsod ng Parañaque!”, followed by thunderous cheers from thousands of supporters.

Yamsuan won amid complaints of vote buying involving Tambunting, who was slapped with a show-cause order by the Comelec Kontra Bigay committee and ordered to respond to the allegations.

“Bawat Parañaqueño na nangangailangan sa Distrito Dos ay sisikapin nating matulungan. Babaguhin natin ang dating sistema. Tulad ng lagi ko ng ginagawa noon sa aking masigasig na paglilingkod sa distrito bago pa man ako mahalal, wala tayong papaboran, walang palakasan,” Yamsuan said of his hard-won mandate in Parañaque’s 2nd District.

The Congressman-Elect said he will also reach out to Parañaqueños who might have been displaced from their jobs following the outcome of the recent elections to offer them livelihood opportunities available through government programs he had coordinated with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“We will begin carrying out our H.O.P.E. agenda for the district on Day One of our assumption to office,” Yamsuan said.

This reform agenda aims to ensure that Parañaque’s 2nd District residents are: 1) provided quality and affordable Health and medical care; 2) equipped with adequate job and livelihood Opportunities to elevate their living standards; 3) assured of Peace and safety in their communities; and 4) guaranteed access to quality Education.

The second batch of Korean volunteer-teachers was deployed to childhood development centers (CDC) in Muntinlupa.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon welcomed the 10 new Korean volunteers coming from different backgrounds including education, media and arts, advertising and sanitation engineering.

“Ready na silang makipag-collaborate sa ating CDC teachers and workers, at matuto rin mula sa ating communities (They are ready to collaborate with our CDC teachers and workers, and also learn from our communities),” posted on Facebook.

The program is part of the partnership between the Muntinlupa City government, Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA), aiming to improve child development in the city.

“We are excited to welcome this new wave of knowledge-sharing and cultural exchange with our Korean friends. We hope our Korean friends will also discover and appreciate the richness of Filipino culture and the warm spirit of Muntinlupeños,” Biazon added.

As some of you may already be aware, long-time City Councilor Mark Anthony Santos pulled off a major upset over Senator Cynthia Villar in the recent local elections and has since been proclaimed as the next Congressional Representative of the city. The Congressman-elect was interviewed by ABS-CBN through their ANC Headstart program and he hopes to inspire future leaders who previously were not given chances to serve.

For historical context, different members of the influential Villar family represented Las Piñas in the House of Representatives since 1992, and there were also members who went on to get elected as Philippine Senators. Senator Cynthia Villar was first elected to the Senate in 2013 and her 2nd 6-year term is ending soon. Before she entered the Senate, she was also the city’s Congressional Representative. Mark Antony Santos, the newly-elected congressional representative of Las Piñas, said Thursday it was “not in my wildest dreams” to challenge the Villar family’s decades-long hold in the post.

“Not in my wildest dream talaga na tumakbo and to fight against a well-entrenched family in Las Piñas,” he told ANC’s Headstart.

Santos was proclaimed Las Piñas congressman-elect after defeating Sen. Cynthia Villar. As of Thursday’s partial and unofficial count, Santos had obtained 108,206 votes while Villar only had 78,526 votes.

It was one of the most stunning upsets in the 2025 midterm polls considering that the Villars had occupied the said congressional post since 1992.

Santos was long-time councilor in the city, and aligned with the Aguilars, a family who is also related to the Villars.

The new congressman denied that his victory was only a result of the alleged infighting between the 2 political families, adding that he was an “independent” candidate.

Santos said his advocacy in the upcoming Congress is to push for socialized housing.

He said he hoped that his win could be an inspiration for leaders who were “never given a chance” due to the country’s political landscape.

On April 30, 2025, Fukuya Japanese Restaurant inside Festival Mall closed down after having its final day of operations which saddened a lot of loyal customers. At 8:41 in morning of that same day, the restaurant announced via social media that they were going to close down which went as follows:

It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing our last day of operations today. We would like to thank our valued customers whom we consider a part of the Fukuya family for your patronage and support since we opened our doors in 1995. We truly cherish the memories we have of you and it is our pleasure to have served you. To our generations of patrons, thank you for your kind words and loyalty to Fukuya. You have made our journey all the more fulfilling. May God bless you all!

For the newcomers reading this, Fukuya Japanese Restaurant first opened at SM Southmall in Las Piñas City in the mid-1990s and my first time ever to eat at their place was in 1997. They eventually opened in Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa some years later and lasted there until April 30 this year. Be aware that a change of ownership of Festival Mall took place months ago which might be related to Fukuya’s closure.

Being fond of Japanese food, I can say that the demise of Fukuya Japanese Restaurant is very unfortunate. To be clear, the number of Japanese restaurants and other businesses selling certain types of Japanese food at Festival Mall has increased over the past several years. In fact, there are certain Japanese restaurants there that sold meals at notably higher prices when compared to similar offerings from Fukuya Japanese Restaurant. Clearly Fukuya had a lot of competitors at Festival Mall alone.

More on Fukuya, there are best known for the Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki (read my old article by clicking here) which was always served freshly cooked, very flavorful and filling. I had their Okonomiyaki many times and always had a great taste backed with satisfaction. I also tried Okonomiyaki at other Japanese restaurants at Festival Mall but none of them ever came close to what Fukuya had.

Fukuya also served Futo Maki/Futomaki, Yakisoba, ramen, Bento meals, Tempura, sushi, sashimi, Teppanyaki, Udon, Soba and a lot more. They also had value meals to accommodate customers with limited funds.

While the pandemic is over and the Philippine economy is growing, there are still a lot of internal and external economic forces that make operating businesses challenging. As for the rental fees of Festival Mall under the new owner, I heard allegations that the rates went up. Apart from Fukuya, I noticed a local printing and photocopying business there closed down recently, and I used to have documents photocopied there.  

Now that Fukuya Japanese Restaurant is gone, customers who are looking for Japanese meals that are affordable will have to look elsewhere. As of this writing, Fukuya has not updated their Facebook page since April 30, 2025. While their FB page is still active, I can only wonder if the business owners could be planning a revival of Fukuya someday. DILG urges LGUs to adopt cashless payments for government transactions

By emphasizing transparence, efficiency and public conveniences as key factors, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged local government units (LGUs) nationwide to adopt cashless payments for government transactions, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The DILG clarified, however, that the traditional modes of payments must still be accepted by LGUs.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) called on the local government units (LGUs) on Saturday, May 17, to promote electronic payment and collection systems as an alternative to the traditional mode of payment in government transactions.

The DILG memorandum circular encourages the LGUs to implement EPCS for collecting local taxes, fees, and other charges, in accordance with Executive Order No. 170, series of 2022 on the use of digital payments for government transactions.

Further, the DILG asserted that digital payments improve transparency, efficiency and public convenience with the LGUs being encouraged to offer secure, accessible digital options, ensure payment channels are user-friendly, and partner with authorized providers, including government servicing banks.

“All efforts must align with the National Retail Payment System Framework and the Data Privacy Act,’’ the DILG emphasized.

“LGUs are also expected to define clear procedures for issuing electronic invoices and billing notices, consistent with guidelines from the Commission on Audit and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas,’’ it added.

While promoting digitalization, the DILG clarified that the LGUs must still accept cash and other traditional modes of payment to ensure accessibility for all.

To support its full implementation, the DILG prodded the LGUs to pass enabling ordinances and issue local policies.
