COVID-19 Crisis: Go Negosyo Founder says that private hospitals can be deputized to procure and administer bivalent vaccines

Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion is back in the news. This time, he emphasized that private hospitals can be helpful in the nation’s recovery from COVID-19 with regards to procuring and administering vaccines to patients who can afford them and are willing to pay for them, the Manila Bulletin reported.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

A former presidential economic adviser on Thursday, Nov. 3, underscored the key role of private hospitals in procuring and administering bivalent Covid-19 vaccines to those who are willing to pay for them.

Amid the plans of the Marcos administration to procure a limited number of bivalent vaccines, which provide broader protection against the original Covid-19 and a component of the Omicron variant, Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion said that private hospitals can be deputized by the government to procure and administer the bivalent vaccines.

He stated this as he estimated that the government will bring in a limited number of vaccines considering that it is still assessing how much it can procure and how much can be delivered.

The 10 million doses, or however much the government decides to buy, will of course be set aside for the priority sectors, namely the elderly, the immunocompromised and those with comorbidities; but there may be others outside of these priority sectors who would also want the bivalent vaccines,” Concepcion said.

Since all private hospitals are capable of handling vaccinations and all can explore agreements with the government as part of the private sector, he raised the idea of allowing private hospitals to procure the bivalent vaccines and administer them to those who want to pay for them.

Dr. Benjamin Co, chief medical officer of Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings, agreed with the ex-economic adviser’s proposal.

I think the best option is to make it available for a fee or at cost. For those who can very well afford it, they can get it from private clinics that offer this and we can charge an administration fee plus the cost of the vaccine,” he said in a statement.

He added that bivalent vaccinations can also become part of the private hospitals’ corporate social responsibility efforts.

“The remaining free vaccines can be appropriated to the rest of the Filipinos who cannot afford this but would like to get vaccinated,” Co suggested.

Recruiting help from the private sector will also unburden the government and allow it to focus on the vulnerable sectors of society, according to Vaccine Experts Panel member Dr. Rontgene Solante, who is also the chairman of Adult Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine at San Lazaro Hospital.

“Private sector involvement is another important layer to achieve higher vaccine accessibility and coverage,” he said.

“This is critical especially with waning interest in booster doses of Covid vaccines. Government should always find ways to engage with the private sector, which has been an important partner of DOH (Department of Health) during the pandemic,” Solante added.

Bivalent Covid vaccines provide broader protection against Covid-19 and better protection against its Omicron variant.

However, all Covid-19 vaccines are still under Emergency Use Authorization, which means only the government can procure and administer the vaccines.

In order to sell the vaccines to the public, vaccine manufacturers need a Certificate of Product Registration (CPR).

As you can in the above article, key steps and legal changes are needed in order to pave the way for private hospitals to get deputized and become key players in the nation’s recovery from COVID-19.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this latest series of developments? If COVID-19 vaccines are offered by private hospitals with price tags, are you willing to pay for them? What do you think is the single biggest disadvantage of government-led handling of COVID-19 vaccines? Do you think that the anti-vaccine fanatics are planning to organize activities to disrupt COVID-19 vaccination around the country?

Watch Planetshakers’ GREATER: Live At Chapel worship video and praise the Lord

Welcome back, my fellow Christians, music enthusiasts and all those who seek the Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit! I really love the way Planetshakers leads the praise and worship of the Lord. This past September, God blessed the Philippines with Planetshakers worship events and I am very thankful to Him as I was able to attend the September 10 worship event and got blessed in return. I was among the many thousands who attended that night and praised the Lord with Planetshakers leading the way to Him with their incredible music, the powerful prayers led by Pastor Sam Evans and dazzling lights.

Planetshakers’ return here in the Philippines was part of their Greater Asia Tour this year and their latest album is titled GREATER. For the newcomers reading this, Planetshakers is a Christian church based in Australia and their worship music team produced a lot of worship songs that became not only popular with Christians around the world but also became part of their worship of the Lord. I reviewed several Planetshakers worship songs on this website and I encourage you to take to read my Christian Music Appreciation (CMA) featurearticles of their worship songs by clicking herehereherehereherehere and here.

Most recently, Planetshakers launched on their YouTube channel the official video of GREATER – Live At Chapel which shows them leading the worship of the Lord on-location on a mountaintop vista near Melbourne in Australia with several Planetshakers Bible College students participating. The video has several GREATER album songs played such as Beauty For Ashes, No. 1 Sound, Greater, Victory of Jesus, Move in Power, Psalm 23, Emmanuel, Heaven is My Home, It is Done, Stay (You Are Good) and Never Thirst Again.

The GREATER – Live At Chapel video on YouTube is 57 minutes long and you can watch it right here right now!

To add more emphasis about worshiping the Lord with music and a lot of heart, posted below are selected scriptures from the Holy Bible…

Go ahead—sing your new song to the Lord!

Let everyone in every language sing him a new song.

Don’t stop! Keep on singing! Make his name famous!

Tell everyone every day how wonderful he is.

Give them the good news of our great Savior.

Take the message of his glory and miracles to every nation.

Tell them about all the amazing things he has done.

For the Lord’s greatness is beyond description,

and he deserves all the praise that comes to him.

He is our King-God, and it’s right to be in holy awe of him.

Other gods are absolutely worthless.

For the Lord God is Creator-God,

who spread the splendor of the skies!

Breathtaking brilliance and awe-inspiring majesty

radiate from his shining presence.

His stunning beauty overwhelms all who come before him.

Surrender to the Lord Yahweh, all you nations and peoples.

Surrender to him all your pride and strength.

Confess that Yahweh alone deserves all the glory and honor.

Bring an offering and come celebrate in his courts.

Come worship the Lord God wearing the splendor of holiness.

Let everyone wait in wonder as they tremble in awe before him.

Tell the nations plainly that Yahweh rules over all!

He is doing a great job, and nothing will disrupt him,

for he treats everyone fair and square.

Let the skies sing for joy! Let the earth join in the chorus.

Let oceans thunder and fields echo this ecstatic praise

until every swaying tree of every forest joins in,

lifting up their songs of joyous praise to him!

For here he comes, the Lord God,

and he’s ready to judge the world.

He will do what’s right and can be trusted

to always do what’s fair.

Psalms 96:1-13 (TPT)

Planetshakers with their students worship the Lord together at this very scenic location. Pastor Sam Evans, Joth Hunt and the others are here.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Praise God in his holy sanctuary!

Praise him in his stronghold in the sky!

Praise him for his mighty miracles!

Praise him for his magnificent greatness!

Praise him with trumpets blasting!

Praise him with piano and guitar!

Praise him with drums and dancing!

Praise him with loud clashing of cymbals!

Praise him upon the high-sounding cymbals!

Let everyone everywhere join in the crescendo

of ecstatic praise to Yahweh!

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!

Psalms 150:1-6 (TPT)

Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; meditate on and talk of all His marvelous deeds and devoutly praise them.

Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek and require the Lord [as their indispensable necessity].

Psalm 105:2-3 (AMPC)

The cross of Lord Jesus at the mountaintop. Let this image remind you to worship the Lord always and forever. Jesus is Lord and Savior of all!

LTO revokes licenses of two drivers involved in separate Parañaque City incidents

Remember the BF Homes incident of the street cleaner who got ran over as well as the other incident that resulted in the death of a 3-year-old girl? Both incidents happened in different parts of Parañaque City and each incident involved sports utility vehicles (SUVs). It turns out, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) revoked the respective licenses of the two drivers who were involved in the said incidents, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Inquirer news report. Some parts in boldface…

The licenses of two drivers have been revoked after they were found guilty of reckless driving for bumping two children – killing one of them, and running over a street sweeper in Parañaque City.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) said it canceled the driver’s licenses of Raymond Zapirain and Rodolfo Cudiamat and held them liable for the administrative violation of reckless driving as they were tagged as “improper persons to operate motor vehicles.

Zapirain and Cudiamat were also ordered to pay fines of P2,000 and were perpetually disqualified from securing a driver’s license and driving a motor vehicle, according to the regulatory office.

The LTO noted that Zapirain is the registered owner and driver of the SUV that hit and seriously injured 63-year-old street sweeper Doreen Bacus last September 24 in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.

The incident was caught on CCTV, which showed the street sweeper doing her job while on the side of the road and Zapirain suddenly bumping her. The victim was then dragged and eventually ran over by the vehicle.

Cudiamat, on the other hand, was the driver of a vehicle involved in another hit-and-run incident where one of the two victims died.

Last September 20, two children were walking along Bodoni Street corner Extra Street, Fourth Estate, Brgy. San Antonio, also in Parañaque City, when they were hit by Cudiamat’s vehicle, resulting in the death of a three-year-old.

Our roads have no room for these ill-disciplined drivers who continue to ignore our traffic laws, even to the point of feigning innocence that what happened was an accident,” LTO Chief Teofilo Guadiz said in a statement Thursday.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What is your reaction to this recent development? Do you think the LTO rendered the right actions on the reported drivers? Do you believe justice has been done for the victims?

Police officers successfully rescue Chinese citizen in Parañaque City

In Parañaque City, a Chinese national was rescued from his captors as a result of a successful operation by the police, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The rescue happened on the evening of October 31, 2022.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

A Chinese man was rescued from his four abductors during a police operation in Parañaque City on Monday night, Oct. 31.

Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Brion Kraft identified the rescued victim as Chen Peng, 27.

The suspects — Qiang Wang, 34, also a Chinese national; Novin Yusuff, 42, driver; Joseph Barbas, 45; and Nino Felisan, 30 — were arrested during the rescue operation.

Kraft said Peng was recovered around 9:10 p.m. during a follow-up operation at the corner of Bradco Avenue and Macapagal Boulevard beside Aseana Power Station in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

The SPD chief said prior to the rescue operation, the sister of the victim, Wang Ting, assisted by an interpreter, Huang Jin, reported to Tambo Police Station that her brother was being held by four men inside a gray metallic van with plate No. IAD 774.

Kraft said members of the Tambo Police Station immediately conducted a rescue operation leading to the arrest of the four suspects.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think about this recent development? Do you think abductions and kidnapping are still serious problems in Parañaque City? Are you thankful to the police for the successful rescue operation?

Local authorities arrest Ghanaian national suspected of masterminding ATM hacking ring

Have you been withdrawing money from certain ATMs (automatic teller machines) lately? Did you notice something wrong with the same accounts you withdrew money from? The Manila Bulletin reported that in recent times, personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) aided by the Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) arrested a Ghanaian national on suspicion of masterminding a ring of hackers that targeted ATMs. The same news report showed some interesting details about the suspect.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives have arrested a (Ghanaian) national posing as a missionary but is suspected to be the mastermind of a West African syndicate hacking automated teller machines (ATMs).

Immigration intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said 34-year-old Victor Patrick was apprehended in a joint operation with the Intelligence Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) last Oct. 14 in a mall in Bicutan, Taguig City.

Manahan said the ISAFP reported that the alien was the principal suspect in hacking ATM machines installed by banks in Moonwalk, Paranaque City.

Manahan said Patrick arrived in the country last April 20, 2019 as tourist and later applied for a missionary visa using a Cebu-based company which turned out to be non-existing.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said Patrick will be deported for obtaining an immigration document under false representation.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Did you withdraw money from ATMs in Parañaque that the suspect allegedly hacked? If so, did you notice discrepancies on your account related to the withdrawals you made?

Four individuals arrested inside Manila Memorial Park for drinking liquor, causing alarm and scandal

In Parañaque City, local authorities responded to the call of a concerned citizen which resulted in the arrest of four individuals inside Manila Memorial Park, Barangay BF Homes for drinking liquor and causing alarm and scandal, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The arrest happened on October 31, 2022 and one of the suspects used a firearm.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Four persons were arrested by the police for drinking liquor inside the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City on Monday, Oct. 31.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Kirby John Brion Kraft said the arrested individuals were identified as cemetery maintenance personnel Danilo Conot, 56; and cemetery caretakers Leonie Carpio, 29; Gregorio Donor III, 30; and John Kennedy Ibañez, 22.

Kraft said the suspects were arrested around 3:50 a.m. inside the Manila Memorial Park Cemetery at BF Homes, Parañaque City.

He said members of the Parañaque City Police responded to a call of a concerned citizen claiming that a group of persons were drinking in a vacant lawn inside the cemetery, and one of them fired a firearm.

The SPD chief said police immediately responded and found the group having fun while drinking and arrested them.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think about this recent development? A Look Back at The Solution #17 (1995)

Disclaimer: This is my original work with details sourced from reading the comic book and doing personal research. Anyone who wants to use this article, in part or in whole, needs to secure first my permission and agree to cite me as the source and author. Let it be known that any unauthorized use of this article will constrain the author to pursue the remedies under R.A. No. 8293, the Revised Penal Code, and/or all applicable legal actions under the laws of the Philippines.

Welcome back superhero fans, 1990s arts and culture enthusiasts, Ultraverse fans and comic book collectors! Today we revisit the Ultraverse through the monthly series of The Solution. To be more precise, this review is about the 17th and final issue ever published.

In my previous retro review, The Solution daringly infiltrated a secret in Taiwan knowing that a major meeting between the heads of gangs will take place there. For Lela Cho/Tech, this is an opportunity for her to recover the company she lost to the Dragon Fang gang (read The Solution #6). Unfortunately for Lela and her teammates, the opposition were prepared for them.

With those details laid down, here is a look back The Solution #17, published by Malibu Comics in 1995 with a story written by the late James Hudnall and drawn by John Statema.

The cover.

Early story

The story begins with the arrival of the so-called lords of the Dragon Fang gang at the facility in Taiwan. As far as they know, The Solution has been brought down and the leader Lela Cho has been captured. They entered with a feeling of triumph only to see a large number of human bodies and severed body parts on the floor.

Inside, the insidious Casino has Lela Cho restrained helplessly on a high-tech chair. The Solution’s leader has been drugged by Casino who tells her that she (Lela) will be brought to some brothel in Thailand.

In another part of the facility, two armed guards approach the motionless body of Dropkick on the floor. Suddenly, The Solution’s martial artist moves and knocks the two guards out…

Quality

A very vulnerable Lela Cho in front of Casino.

In consideration of the build-up that started in the few previous issues, this particular comic book proved to be a worthy pay-off complete with a few notable twists that surprised me. Without spoiling the plot, I can say that the story is intriguing, the spectacle is plenty and the creative managed to keep things fresh. Along the way, there is some really relevant story elements that will compel you to re-read the early issues of The Solution series, especially when it comes to Casino who previously encountered the titular team.

As a good-versus-evil story, this one does not go over the edge and it certainly is not brainless entertainment. There is a lot more behind The Solution’s conflict with the Dragon Fang gang here and the impact can be felt more by those who actually started reading this particular series from issue #1.

On the visuals, John Statema’s return here is a very welcome move simply because, in my honest opinion, his style and approach to art really defined the looks of both the series and The Solution itself.

Conclusion

Shadowmage takes on the Commie from Cambodia.

Being the concluding issue of its own series, The Solution #17 (1995) is a solidly fun and intriguing read. Not only did it conclude the build-up that preceded it, it also encouraged revisiting the earlier issues of the series for a deeper understanding of the opposition forces such as Casino and the Dragon Fang gang. While this was the last The Solution series entry, there was a promise of further adventures as it was made clear that another “era” awaited Lela Cho and her team. Unfortunately, as comic book publishing history showed, The Solution as a publishing franchise came to an end as the Ultraverse itself faded to obscurity under the banner of Marvel Comics (which acquired Malibu Comics in 1994). Take note that The Strangers concluded without a really conclusive story (there were even art works for issues #25 to #27) and Prototype ended with a story that felt like a substitute issue. That being said, the only way to keep enjoying The Solution is by simply repeat reading the entire series as well as finding the team’s appearances in other Ultraverse comic books. In my view, The Solution is one of the very best Ultraverse teams!

Overall, The Solution #17 (1995) is recommended.

As this is end of my retro reviews of The Solution, posted below are images of fashion models whom I find suitable as cosplay photography models for Lela Cho/Tech and Shadowmage. Please tell me if the models looked their parts. Enjoy!

Model Saria Chen as Tech.
Saria Chen as Lela Cho in civilian form.
Model Shannon Barker as Shadowmage.

Muntinlupa City Mayor Biazon tells residents to be vigilant as a new weather disturbance approaches

This past weekend was harsh for many people here in the Philippines due to the intense rain and wind caused by typhoon Paeng. The result was a lot of flooding, fallen trees and unstable power supply to say the least. Yesterday, the Manila Bulletin reported that Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon advised residents (who are still recovering from the last typhoon) to be vigilant as a new weather disturbance has entered the area of responsibility of Philippines.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon advised residents to be vigilant as another weather disturbance entered the Philippines.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Oct. 31 that tropical depression “Queenie” has entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

“At 5:00 AM today, the center of the Tropical Depression near Palau entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and was named #QueeniePH. Tropical Cyclone Bulletins will be issued beginning at 11:00 AM today,” PAGASA posted on its Facebook page.

The entry of “Queenie” came as tropical storm “Paeng” is still in the Philippine area of responsibility.

“Pumasok na sa Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) si #QueeniePH. Tututukan po natin yan para po sa nararapat na paghahanda (#QueeniePH has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility [PAR]. We will focus on this for the appropriate preparedness),” Biazon said.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a Muntinlupa City resident, what is your reaction to this development? Is your household ready for a new weather disturbance? How much damage did typhoon Paeng have on your household this past weekend?

Muntinlupa City receives Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) for 2022

Not so long after achieving honors related to the 2022 Cities and Municipalities Competitive Index, the City of Muntinlupa achieved another tremendous honor in the form of the Seal of Good Local Governance for this year, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

Muntinlupa received the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), an “award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program [that] aims to boost LGUs’ drive to constantly progress and/or sustain their notable performance across various governance areas.”

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Oct. 27 that there are 350 awardees this year consisting of 18 provinces, 60 cities and 272 municipalities in the Philippines.

The total number of awardees this year is 20.4 percent of the 1,715 provinces, cities and municipalities in the country covered by assessment.

Only five of the 17 local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) passed the assessment for SGLG and were named awardees this year. These are Muntinlupa, Caloocan, Mandaluyong, Navotas and Quezon City.

Congratulations, Muntinlupa City! We did it again! Muntinlupa City is among the awardees of the 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG)!” said Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon.

He added, “Maraming salamat sa mga katuwang natin sa paglilingkod, most especially to Cong. Jimmy Fresnedi sa kanyang leadership noong siya ang mayor ng ating lungsod (Thank you to our partners in service, most especially to Cong. Jimmy Fresnedi for his leadership when he was the mayor of our city).”

The SGLG, institutionalized through Republic Act 11292, is based on 10 assessment criteria.

“The SGLG maintains the ‘All-in’ principle where a local government must pass all governance areas,” according to a memorandum issued by the DILG.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a Muntinlupa City resident, what is your reaction to this development? Are you happy with what the city achieved in terms of being competitive with the many other highly urbanized cities?

Badly beaten Vietnamese woman rescued and two Chinese nationals arrested in Parañaque City

Recently in the City of Parañaque, local authorities rescued a badly beaten Vietnamese woman and arrested two Chinese nationals who were linked to her, according to a GMA Network news report published in Tagalog. What makes this case disturbing is that the intense physical abuse committed on the victim inside the apartment was captured on video.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the GMA Network news report with content translated into English. Some parts in boldface…

A Vietnamese woman was allegedly assaulted by her Chinese national (superior) in Parañaque City with bruises, cuts and wounds on her body and face.

According to John Consulta’s report on GMA News “24 Oras” this Thursday, Southern Police District-District Special Operations Unit (SPD-DSOU) personnel rescued the 26-year-old victim inside his employer’s condo unit.

The Chinese man was also seen in the video hurting the victim. The victim was rescued, and two Chinese (nationals) were arrested.

“When we sent (her) for medical treatment, (her) situation was really tragic because almost every part of (her) body was hurt,” said SPD District Director Pcol. Kirby Kraft.

Kraft added, the Chinese started hurting the Vietnamese when (she) said goodbye that (she) wanted to go back to Dubai where (she) used to work.

Kraft further said that the victim also revealed that the boss attempted to “sexually take advantage” of her.

Complaints of illegal detention, serious physical injury and acts of lasciviousness have been filed against the suspects.

For added insight, posted below is the related GMA News video in Tagalog. The captured footage of physical abuse is disturbing to watch.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: What do you think about this recent development? Do you believe that Parañaque City has lots of Chinese nationals who secretly enslaved and/or abused people (foreign or local) behind closed doors? Does this recent news report make you feel uneasy with having Chinese nationals residing in your local community right now?
