The city government of Las Piñas has been recognized as one of the first local government units (LGUs) in the country to receive a Certificate of Recognition for Advancing Animal Welfare in the Philippines.

Mayor April Aguilar said the award was conferred by the Animal Health and Welfare Division of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) on the Las Piñas City Veterinary Services Office, headed by Dr. August Michael Basangan, in acknowledgment of its significant contributions to promoting and protecting animal welfare in the city.

Aguilar said the city was cited for its strong and consistent implementation of Republic Act 8485, also known as the Animal Welfare Act.

She added that Las Piñas continues to roll out various animal welfare programs, including free spay and neuter services, anti-rabies vaccination, monthly pet adoption events, pet registration, and pet microchipping.

Police arrested a construction worker, listed as the No. 8 Most Wanted Person at the station level, in Las Piñas City on Feb. 2

Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Wilson Delos Santos said the suspect, identified as alias DJ, 39, was nabbed at his residence on Gen. Luna Street, Barangay Manuyo Uno, Las Piñas City.

Delos Santos said the arrest was carried out by members of the Warrant and Subpoena Section for violation of Republic Act No. 7610, also known as the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The warrant of arrest for the service of sentence was issued by Judge Mildred Jacinto Marquez of the Las Piñas City Family Court, Branch 2. He is currently detained at the custodial facility of the Las Piñas City Police Station.

Las Piñas City Police chief Col. Wilson Delos Santos identified the suspect as alias “Boy,” 41, a resident of Barangay Talon 1, Las Piñas City.

Delos Santos said the arrest was carried out through a joint operation of the Dulag Municipal Police Station (MPS) and the Las Piñas City Police, particularly its Warrant and Subpoena Section.

The suspect was nabbed by virtue of a warrant of arrest for qualified rape of a minor issued on July 7, 2025 by Judge Avelino Decoroso M. Basco of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 34, Tacloban City, with no recommended bail.

Authorities from the Las Piñas City Police arrested two Indian nationals after swiftly resolving a robbery incident through a hot-pursuit operation aided by Global Positioning System (GPS) technology on Friday, Jan. 16.

Las Piñas Police Chief Col. Sandro Tafalla identified the suspects as “Sukhwinder,” 27, and “Jasdeep,” 33, both Indian nationals and residents of Taytay, Rizal. They were arrested at Villa Fidela Subdivision, Barangay Elias, Las Piñas City.

Tafalla said the victim, also an Indian national, 34, reported that he was approached by two men while parking his motorcycle in front of his residence. The suspects allegedly forcibly took his iPhone 16 Pro worth P73,000 and P10,000 in cash.

The victim added that after taking his valuables, the suspects immediately fled on board a motorcycle.

In a rapid, technology-driven response, Tafalla said responding police officers coordinated with the victim to activate the GPS feature of the stolen mobile phone, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

Authorities successfully recovered the stolen iPhone 16 Pro, the P10,000 cash, and a Motoposh EVO 150 motorcycle bearing plate number N580QH, along with the black-and-white helmets and red jacket allegedly worn by the suspects during the incident.

A group of men was arrested after allegedly stealing an underground copper cable belonging to an internet service provider along Alabang-Zapote Road in Las Piñas City.

According to Jamie Santos’ exclusive report on 24 Oras Weekend on Sunday, an investigation by the Las Piñas Police found that the 17 suspects are from Manila.

The suspects claimed they were recruited by an unidentified individual who promised to pay them P1,200 each in exchange for carrying a cargo.

They also claimed they were loaded into a closed van and brought to Las Piñas City, where they later discovered that the cargo contained internet cables, the report added.

Roving guards of the internet service provider allegedly caught the suspects loading the cables into the van, triggering a chase.

“Nagkaroon sila ng habulan. Paakyat ng Skyway ang van hanggang sa tumigil ito sa toll gate. Binangga ang barriers ng toll gate kaya hinold sila ng mga guwardiya.

(A chase ensued. The van was heading up the Skyway until it stopped at the toll gate.)

“Pagkatapos, tumawag ang toll gate security personnel sa HPG-Bicutan,” said Police Major Bobbe Imbo, chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Section of Las Piñas Police Station.

(After it crashed into the toll gate barriers, the guards held them, then the toll gate security personnel called the HPG-Bicutan.)

“Possible po na hindi nila alam ang bubuhatin. May isang tao lang na nag-recruit sa kanila at sinabi na may bubuhatin sila. Hindi nila nire-reveal ang pangalan,” he added.

(It is possible they did not know what they were carrying. They said there was only one person who recruited them and told them they had something to carry, but they are not revealing the name.)

Authorities seized a 150-meter cable valued at more than P500 million, as well as a bolt cutter. An estimated 1,400 subscribers lost internet connection due to the incident, the report said.
