Ramos and Burgos top 2025 National Age Group Aquathlon event at Vermosa Sports Hub

John Alexander Ramos and Erika Nicole Burgos won their respective Elite titles during the 2025 National Age Group Aquathlon event yesterday at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite, according to a sports news article published by the Philippine New Agency (PNA).

Joshua Alexander Ramos delivered a fine performance to claim victory in the Standard Men Elite of the National Age Group Aquathlon 2025 at the Ayala-Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite on Saturday.

The 23-year-old member of the Baguio Benguet Triathlon club clocked 31 minutes and 19 seconds in the 1km-swim and 5km-run competition.

“I joined this tournament to test my fitness and I’m glad I won,” said Ramos, a second-year marketing management student at the University of Baguio.

Last year, he was runner-up to Cebuano Kim Andrew Remolino in the race that only covered 500 meters (swim) and 2.5 km. (run).

Remolino and Matthew Hermosa did not join due to a Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) regional qualifying.

“Even if they are not here, I can say that I gave my best,” said Ramos, who won four medals in swimming – two golds (400m and 1500 freestyle), one silver (4x200m freestyle), and one bronze (4×100 freestyle) at the 2024 PRISAA National Games in Legazpi City, Albay.

Iñaki Emil Lorbes registered 31:28 to finish second despite nursing a right ankle injury he sustained two weeks ago in training. Irienold Reig Jr. (32:12) was third.

Meanwhile, Erika Nicole Burgos defended the women’s title, clocking 34 minutes and 17 seconds to prevail over Wan Ting of Singapore (35:01) and Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz (35:50).

“The course is difficult, it’s exhausting,” said Burgos of Tanauan, Batangas.

She will join the National Age Group Duathlon on Sunday.

“I’ll do my best to win (in the National),” said Burgos, who won the gold medal in the 2023 Asian Duathlon Championships at the New Clark City Sports Complex.

In the Junior Elite category, Joshua’s younger brother, Dayshaun Karl, topped the men’s division in 16:37. Darell Johnson Bada (16:40) ranked second followed by Peter Sancho Del Rosario (16:44).

Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy clocked 18:45 to win the women’s title over Maria Celinda Raagas (21:42).

Edison Badillo (PTS2), Raul Angoluan (PTS3), Alex Silverio (PTS4), and Joshua Nelmida with guide Bernard Matthew Cruz (PTVI) won their respective divisions in the para category of the event organized by the Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) headed by Tom Carrasco.

2025 National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon set to happen at Vermosa Sports Hub this weekend

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! The Vermosa Sports Hub will be hosting the National Age Group Aquathlon and the National Age Group Duathlon events this weekend in Cavite. Specifically, the aquathlon is on March 1 while the duathlon is on March 2. There will also be several significant athletes participating in the said events.

These events of Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) are supported by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc., Fitbar and RaceYa. Recently, the news article of the National Age Group Aquathlon and National Age Group Duathlon was published by the Philippine News Agency (PNA) with an emphasis on who will be competing this weekend. All is set for the National Age Group Aquathlon and Duathlon Championships this weekend at the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite.

The aquathlon event is set on March 1 and the duathlon the next day.

Merry Joy Trupa and Marion Kim Mangrobang lead the title contenders in a duathlon in the tournament organized by the Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) headed by Tom Carrasco.

Trupa won the silver medal while Mangrobang settled for the bronze medal at the 2025 Asia Triathlon Duathlon Championships in Manama, Bahrain last Sunday.

Trupa finished the 5km run-30km bike-5km run in 1:29:16, behind Chinese Ziqing Lu (1:28:24). Mangrobang champion, clocked 1:33:14.

Mangrobang is a three-time champion in triathlon and back-to-back gold medalist in duathlon at the SEA Games.

She leads the women’s Elite, Under 23 and Junior squad which include Raven Faith Alcoseba, Kira Ellis, Erika Nicole Burgos, Lady Samantha Jhunace Corpuz and Katrina Salazar.

The men’s Elite and Under 23 team is composed of Filipino-Spanish Fernando Casares, Andrew Kim Remolino, Matthew Justine Hermosa, Joshua Alexander Ramos, Iñaki Emil Lorbes, Juan Miguel Tayag and Juan Francisco Baniqued, while the Junior Elite roster has Dayshaun Karl Ramos, Darell Johnson Bada, Euan Arrow Ramos and Peter Sancho del Rosario.

2025 Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup set for May 3 and 4, registration ongoing

The next edition of the long-running Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) – also referred to as the 2025 NTT AST Subic Bay Asia Cup – will be held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone on May 3 and 4, 2025, and already online registration is ongoing. This special event is a project of Triathlon Philippines, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and Funtastic Subic presented by NTT and Asia Triathlon

The 2-day event supported by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc. and Fitbar will have the Standard Elite, U15 and Super Tri-Kids races on May 3 (Saturday). On May 4 (Sunday), the races for Sprint Jr. Elite, Sprint Para, Sprint Age Group and Standard Age Group will happen.

Race distances are as follows: Standard Distance 1.5 Km swim – 40 Km bike – 10 Km run, Sprint Distance 750 M swim – 20 Km bike – 5 Km run, and U15 Distance 500 M swim – 10 Km bike – 2 Km run.

Race distance for Super Tri-Kids are as follows: 6 and under 50 M swim – 1 Km bike – 400 M run, 7-8 100 M swim – 2 Km bike – 800 M run, 9-10 200 M swim – 6 Km bike – 1 Km run, and 11-12 400 M swim – 8 Km bike – 2 Km run.

Remolino and Alcoseba successfully defend titles in 2025 National Age Group Triathlon Subic Bay race

Cebu-based SEA Games medalists Andrew Kim Remolino and Raven Faith Alcoseba successfully defended their respective titles in the elite category of the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) opening leg at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Boardwalk in Zambales yesterday.

Remolino finished the 750 Meter swim – 20 Kilometer bike – 5 Km run race in 56 minutes and 46 seconds to beat teammate Matthew Justine Hermosa (56:47) and Joshua Alexander Ramos of Baguio City (57:23) in the men’s division.

“Halos sabay-sabay lang kami nina Matthew, [Iñaki Emil] Lorbes, Joshua at Dayshaun Karl [Ramos] after ng swim until sa bike transition. Nag-breakaway kami ni Matthew pag-start ng run, then nag-sprint na kami sa last 150 meters,” explained the 23-year-old Remolino, a 2nd year marketing student at University of San Carlos.

In the women’s division, Alcoseba clocked 1:05:19 to claim her fourth straight title in the event organized by the Triathlon Philipines headed by Tom Carrasco.

Erika Nicole Burgos of Tanauan, Batangas (1:06:56) and Katrina Salazar of Mandaluyong City (1:08:53) placed second and third, respectively.

“I had a good training. It’s nice to win again,” said Alcoseba, fourth year civil engineering student at De La Salle University. She won one gold (4x200m freestyle relay), two silver (400m Individual Medley and 800m freestyle) and one bronze (400m freestyle relay) medals in the UAAP Season 87 swimming competition.

In the Junior Elite category, the top three finishers in the men’s division were Dayshaun Karl Ramos (57:17), Darell Johnson Bada (59:38) and Euan Arrow Ramos (59:40) while in the women’s division were Dhana Victoria Seda-Lomboy (1:09:54), Maria Celinda (1:14:50) and Candace Marie (1:15:12).

In the age group sprint, which also covered 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km, the winners in the men’s division were Christopher Adrian Te of TDN Con-Steel Builders (16-19), Daniel Nazarro of Baguio Benguet Triathlon (20-29), Norman Resurrecion of FITPH (30-39), Raffy Dolor of Artemis Victory (40-49), Joey Veloso of Paynet Amigo Tri (50-59), and Michiel Van Der Auwera of Westgrove (60 and over).

Champions in the women’s division were Aira Danara Soguilon Gregorio of DentalWay-HTC-GTT (16-19), Edellaine Mae Digos of Olongapo Junior Trackers Multisports (20-29), Rhia Mae Alexandra Stawicki of Triclark Triathlon Team (30-39), Franchesca Carpo of Polotri Team (40-49), Bic Ferreria of Amigo Tri (50 and over).

Diego Jose Dimayuga and Lauren Lee Tan dominated the Under-15 (Youth) category in the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Boardwalk in Zambales yesterday.

Dimayuga of Get Coach’D Academy, finished the 500 meter swim – 10 kilometer bike – 2 kilometer race 30 minutes and 55 seconds to beat teammate Pio Mishael Latonio (31:34) and David Mora of TNST/Sante Barley TriTeam, who clocked 31:39, in the boys division of the event organized by the Triathlon Philippines headed by Tom Carrasco.

Tan of Ormoc Aquatic Edge bagged the girls title with a time of 34:07, beating Christy Ann Perez of TLTG Go for Gold PH (34:27) and Alaina Bouffaut of Get Coach’D Academy (35:04).

Meanwhile, Pele Matteo Latonio (Get Coach’D Academy) and Elise Salas (Olongapo Junior Trackers) ruled Super Kids 11-12 category (400m swim-8km bike-2km run) in the tournament sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Milo, Standard Insurance, LeGarde, Gatorade, Asia Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc. and Fitbar.

It’s all systems for the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) opening race which will be held this weekend at the Subic Boardwalk inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.

Day 1 (January 25, Saturday) of the swim-bike-run event organized by the Triathlon Philipines headed by Tom Carrasco features the Super Tri Kids boys and girls (6 and under, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12) and the U15 (Youth) men and women (13-15 years old) categories.

In Day 2 (January 26, Sunday) are the Elite/Junior men and women; Para Triathlon men; Sprint Age Group men and women (16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59) and 60 and over for men only; Sprint Age Group men and women (18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49); 50 and over (women); 50-54, 55-59 and 60 and over (men); and Standard Team Relay (men, women and mixed) categories.

The race distances are Sprint Elite, Junior Elite, Para, and Age Group (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run); Youth 13-15 (500m swim, 10km bike and 2km run); and Standard Age Group/Team Relay (1.5km swim, 40km bike and 10km run).

As the 2025 season opener of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series is set to take place on January 25 and 26 at the Subic Bay Boardwalk inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Cebu’s very own Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) medalists Andrew Kim Remolino and Raven Faith Alcoseba are seen as the heavy favorites in their respective categories, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) sports article.

In addition, there are several triathletes from Cebu who will be joining the Subic Bay triathlon across different categories. For the Philippines triathlon team, this event is crucial as it serves as a qualifying race for this year’s SEA Games which will be hosted by Thailand.

Cebu will be sending a big delegation to the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) tournament scheduled Jan. 25 and 26 at Subic Bay Freeport.

Leading the contingent is Andrew Kim Remolino, the defending men’s elite titlist in the competition organized by the Triathlon Association of the Philippines.

“It’s gonna be a hard race to start the season since everyone’s really getting ready for it,” Remolino said in an interview on Sunday.

“The NAGT is the first qualifying race to get a slot for the SEA (Southeast) Games in Thailand, so for now, we are just preparing for the things we could improve before the race day,” added the 23-year-old who hails from Talisay.

He bagged an aquathlon silver at the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games.

The Thailand SEA Games is set in December this year.

Remolino won the 2024 NAAT, with an Olympic distance 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run, in 56 minutes and 56 seconds, beating fellow Cebuano Matthew Justine Hermosa who registered a personal best 56:57 and Baguio City’s Dayshaun Ramos (57:31).

Also back this year is Raven Faith Alcoseba, who clocked 1:03:55 to rule the women’s division over Erika Nicole Burgos of Tanauan, Batangas (1:05:39) and Kira Ellis (1:06:16).

Hermosa, Burgos, Ellis and Iñaki Emil Lorbes bagged the mixed team gold medal at the Cambodia SEA Games.

Triathlon Philippines’ Talent Identification Program Try-Outs Set to Happen in Cebu, Davao Del Norte and Cavite on January 2025

Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) will be searching for new talents in Cebu, Davao Del Norte and Cavite by organizing try-outs under its Talent Identification Program this coming January.

Triathlon coach Kevin Eijansantos and technical official Edgar Nicolas will do the talent search in Cebu on January 11, at the Davao Del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex on January 13, and at Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Cavite on January 18. TriPhil’s Talent Identification Program aims to discover and nurture young Filipino athletes in the youth (13-15 years old) and junior (16-19 years old) categories, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and represent the country in national and international competitions.

To be eligible, youth applicants must be Filipino citizens born between 2010 and 2012, while junior applicants must be born between 2006 and 2009. Deadline of registration is December 31, 2024.

For inclusion to the triathlon pool, a contender must pass the qualifying times for swimming and running plus bike handling skills tests. Participation in local races of TriPhil will be required as a selection committee will review the aspirants’ results per race.

TriPhil will announce the official members of the National Development Pool for 2025 no later than May 30, 2025.

Expanding the National Development Pool is part of Triathlon Philippines’ preparation for the 4^th Asian Youth Games (AYG) in Uzbekistan in September 2025 preparatory to possible participation in the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Dakar, Senegal.

The Philippines is also girding for the sprint distance triathlon competitions of the 2025 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Rayong, Thailand in December 2025.

The 2025 season opener of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series is set to take place on January 25 and 26 at the Subic Bay Boardwalk inside the Subic Bay Freeport Zone and registration is ongoing.

A part of Triathlon Philippines’ (TriPhil) triathlon try-outs and talent identification program for the Philippine Triathlon Team, the 2025 National Age Group Triathlon – Subic Bay race will have race distances as follows:

● Super Trikids:

○ 6-under 50m swim- 1km bike – 400m run

○ 7-8 yrs. old 100m swim – 2km bike – 800m run

○ 9-10 yrs. old 200m swim – 6km bike – 1 Km run

○ 11-12 yrs. old 400m swim – 8km bike – 2km run

● U15: 500m swim – 10km bike – 2km run

● Sprint Distance: 750m swim – 20km bike – 5km run

● Standard Distance: 1.5km swim – 40km bike – 10km run (Individual and Team Relay)

The 2025 National Age Group Triathlon – Subic Bay event is a joint project of Triathlon Philippines (formerly Triathlon Association of the Philippines), the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and FUNtastic Subic Bay. The supporters of the event are the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines, Inc., Standard Insurance and LeGARDE.

Greater Asian presence in World Triathlon Committees for 2025-2028 achieved

A greater Asian presence within the World Triathlon congress was achieved as fourteen candidates from Asia won seats in varied committees during the election held recently Torremolinos, Spain. The newly elected members will be serving from 2025 to 2028.

Elected to the Credential Committee were Liangjie Li (China), Mohammad Hojaji (Iran), Reita Kanagarajah (Malaysia), and George Selman (Lebanon). Suzanne Tang (Malaysia) was elected to the Legal and Constitution Committee while Dana Shubat (Syria) made it to the Medical and Anti-Doping Committee.

Tomoko Wada (Japan), Jianqui Qin (China) and Melody Tan (Malaysia) were elected to the Multisport Committee. Hideki Yamana (Japan) in the National Coaches Committee, Masamitsu Tomikawa (Japan) in the Para Triathlon Committee, Kiriyo Suzuki (Japan) in the Technical Committee. Zhang Chen (China) and Yelena Kun (Uzbekistan) got elected to the Women’s Committee.

This milestone led to a marked improvement with Asian representation of 23% in the WT committees from about 5% in the previous term.

Meanwhile Japan’s Shin Otsuka got re-elected as Vice President and His Highness Prince Fahad Bin Jalawi Al Saud will represent Asia in the Executive Board. They too will serve from 2025 until 2028.

The newly elected Executive Board of World Triathlon recently had its first meeting and already they discussed the new agenda that includes the appointment of a new Secretary General, the external analysis of the events structure and the late withdrawal penalizations dismissed.
