Filipino-French Alaina Bouffaut and Diego Jose Dimayuga Top 13-15 category of 2026 National Age Group Triathlon in Subic Bay

Diego Jose Dimayuga and Alaina Bouffaut of Get Coach’d Academy headed by Doray Ellis topped the super sprint U15 (13-15 years old) category of the opening leg of the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series held at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone yesterday.

Dimayuga clocked 31:46 to win the gold medal in the boys division, while teammate Pio Mishael Gabriel placed second (33:31) followed by Joseph Ian Caluste of BE TRITANS (34:15).

Bouffaut and teammate Naomi Rozeboom also had a 1-2 finish in the girls division of the event sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Gatorade, Western Guaranty Corporation, Z-Bitt and SBMA Tourism.

Bouffaut submitted the best time of 37:39. Rozeboom was second in 37.51, while Lauren Lee Tan placed third (37:55), beating Diego’s sister, Naomi Rosalie (37:56).

Dimayuga, the newest member of the national elite pool, and Bouffaut are scheduled to compete at the Asian Junior and U23 Championships on May 12-15 in Hong Kong.

In the super tri kids division, Marcus Jayden Balaquit of Wavemakers Swim Team and Danica Angodung were crowned champions in the 11-12 category.

Eli Juan Dela Cruz of Team Megawide and Ami Takei of Team Honu (9-10 years old); Ethan Geronimo of OJT and Francesca Bader Mendoza of Gas Coaching/Ace Seawolves (7-8 years old); and Jewel Hunter Galang and Ylianna Devera of TLTG (6 years old and under) were the other winners in the event organized by Triathlon Philippines (TriPhil) as part of its grassroots and talent identification program.

The Subic Bay leg of the 2026 National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) series was supported by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), Funtastic Subic, Terrace Hotel Subic Bay, and Fitbar.

Kira Ellis Wins 2025 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup Title

This past weekend, national triathlete Kira Ellis achieved tremendous honor for the Philippines by winning the gold in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Junior Cup held at Riga, Latvia, according to a Manila Bulletin sports news report.

For the newcomers reading this, Kira Ellis came back from injury and was sidelined for several months which makes her victory in Latvia even more special not only for her career but for the entire nation. It should be recalled that she was the champion in the 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup. To see the official race results of this past weekend’s event, click here.

Triathlete Kira Ellis lived up to her lofty billing as she captured the Junior Women crown in the 2025 Europe Triathlon Cup in Riga, Latvia over the weekend.

Despite being the lone Filipina and Asian in the class, Ellis, 18, impressed and timed in one hour, five minutes, and seven seconds in the 750m-swim, 22km-bike, and 5.1km-run event to outshine 15 other foreign rivals.

It was also a sort of stellar comeback for Ellis who suffered a shin splint (medial tibial stress syndrome) that sidelined her for six months.

The feat just added to Ellis’ trophy collection that includes golds in 2024 Asia Triathlon Junior Cup in Malaysia and in 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

Welcome back, multisports athletes and sports enthusiasts! This past weekend in Hong Kong, the youthful Diego Jose Dimayuga won for the Philippines a silver medal in the 13-15 category during the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025.

A surprise package in the youngest bet, Diego Jose Dimayuga, prevented PHI from medal shutout in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championship 2025 in Hong Kong yesterday.

Dimayuga, mentored by Doray Ellis, snatched the silver medal in the 13-15 years category, aggregating 35 minutes and 32 seconds on splits of 00:05:43 swim (T1/15 sec), 19 min bike (T2/1 min 27 sec) and 8 min 7 sec bike.

Going into the run after the 400-meter swim and 11-km bike, Dimayuga, the self-funded grandson of ex-University of the Philippines regent Francis Laurel, and eventual champion, hometown favorite Yik Hei Lau were neck-and neck.

Yik poured it on in the 2.5-Kilometer run that saw him breast the tape at 35:40, 52 seconds ahead of Dimayuga. Completing the podium finishers was another Hong Kongite, Tze Kiu Tam, who finished 11 seconds behind Dimayuga.

The other members of the PHI squad supported by Philippine Sports Commission seeing action in the Asia Triathlon Sprint Championships Hong Kong 2025 included: Raven Alcoseba, Sam Corpus, Erika Burgos, Kim Remolino, Mateo Hermosa, Dash and Josh Ramos.

Team manager is Ting Joson with Doray Ellis, Louann Ramos and Andoy Remolino as coaches.

Huelgas and Burgos Lead All Vermosa Aquathlon 1 Winners

2-time Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medalist Nikko Huelgas and Erika Nicole Burgos proved how strong they are among all the winners in the standard distance contest of the Vermosa Aquathlon 1 which was held recently at the world-class Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus City, Cavite.

Huelgas was unstoppable from start to finish as he finished the 500 meter swim- 5 kilometer run course in a swift 25 minutes and 54 seconds, easily winning the Male 25-29 age-group title. Meanwhile the next two fastest males were from the 18-24 category namely Juan Francisco Baniqued and Inaki Lorbes who finished in 27:00 and 27:17 respectively.

Among the ladies in the event presented by Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, Standard Insurance, Apollo Petroleum Jelly, Alviera, LeGarde L-Carnitine, Smart, official timing partner Garmin, hydration partners Pocari Sweat and Sip Purified Water, shoe partner Saucony and recovery partner Air Relax Massage Guns Philippines, Erika Nicole Burgos emerged as the Female 18-24 champion after clocking in 30:33. She was followed by Female 15-17 champion Olivia Kwon with 33:25 while Female 18-24 entry Bea Marie Quiambao registered the 3rd fastest time of 34:30.

The relay champions declared were Team AA (All-Female) composed of Mikaela Arroyo and Boo Pascual, Team Good Boiz (All-Male) composed of Hjalmar Pasaylo and Lorenzo Joaquin Solda, and Team GG (Mixed) composed of Gabriella Venturina and Mark Garin.

Nikko Huelgas, who won the SEA Games gold medals in 2015 and 2017, had high praise for the quality of the design of the race course stating that the lanes in the Olympic-sized swimming pool were spacious while the angular roads around Vermosa provided nice challenge. This was also his first time ever to race in the venue.

Meanwhile, Get Coach’D coach Doray Ellis stated that their team’s preparations, which includes training at Vermosa, paid off nicely as their members won a huge number of awards across different age-groups. For the past two years, their youth athletes developed their racing skills and became more competitive as they grew. Erika Nicole Burgos is a member of their team.

“Despite what has been going on around us, we are very happy with the huge turnout of participants as well as Bike King’s decision to push through with this first race we hosted this year. We are looking forward to hosting this June’s triathlon event and two more aquathlon events in the months to come,” said Vermosa operations manager Andrea Intalan.

The Top 20 finishers of the standard distance contest individual category in the event earned points for the simultaneous Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub Series and the Sun Life Aquathlon Series. The Top Aquathlete per age group will be declared later this year.
