The Las Piñas City Nutrition Office continued its citywide feeding efforts through the Programang Pang-Nutrisyon para sa Las Piñeros, holding another feeding activity on Wednesday, May 28 at the St. Mary Homes Covered Court in Almanza Uno. The initiative served nearly 700 children with pork picadillo rice toppings and bottled water.

The event aimed to provide accessible and healthy meals to young Las Piñeros, particularly during the school break, to help sustain their nutritional needs. Volunteers and staff from the City Nutrition Office ensured the orderly distribution of food, assisted by community leaders and local personnel.

Mayor-elect April Aguilar personally took part in the event, helping serve meals and engaging with the children and their families. Her presence reflected her administration’s continued support for grassroots nutrition initiatives and direct community outreach.

Parañaque Congressman-elect Yamsuan eyes expansion of BAON program for poor-but-deserving students among constituents

Incoming Parañaque 2^nd District Representative Brian Yamsuan confirmed that he intends to expand the BAON (Bigay Ayuda at Oportunidad sa Nakababata) program to help the poor-but-deserving students among the constituents and he will do it once he takes office, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. In fact, there were already thousands of students in District 2 of Parañaque who benefited from the said program this year.

For context about the recent National and Local Elections, Yamsuan ran under the Team Pag-Asa banner and his successful teammates include Vice Mayor-elect Benjo Bernabe, and the re-elected City Councilors Tess de Asis, Binky Favis and Shannin Olivarez. Yamsuan won over 2^nd District Representative Gus Tambunting with a lead of almost ten thousand votes. Parañaque City 2nd district Representative-elect Brian Raymund Yamsuan is eyeing the expansion of his “ayuda” program for poor but deserving students among his constituents.

“Our BAON (Bigay Ayuda at Oportunidad sa Nakababata) program had huge impact on the youth in the second district. We will continue implementing and find ways to broaden its scope to benefit more Parañaqueños in the district,” Yamsuan said in a statement Tuesday, May 27.

“We will start on day one of my term,” he declared ahead of the 20th Congress.

Yamsuan, Bicol Saro Party-list’s lone nominee in the current 19th Congress, said education would be among his priorities as he endeavors to empower the youth and help them take charge of their future.

“Our goal is to make education affordable and easily accessible to give everyone an equal opportunity to succeed in overcoming life’s challenges and carving a stable and vibrant future,” he said.

“Edukasyon, sipag at determinasyon ang pinanghawakan ko noon para makaahon sa kahirapan kaya’t alam ko na kung mabibigyan lamang ng maayos na edukasyon ay may naghihintay na matatag na bukas para sa bawat masisipag na Parañaqueno ng second district,” added the former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) assistant secretary.

(Education, diligence and determination were what I held onto in the past to rise above poverty, which is why I know that a stable future awaits every hardworking Parañaquenõ in the second district if given the chance to have a proper education.)

BAON, which Yamsuan started implementing in the district last year, provides a one-time P5,000 educational assistance to each qualified student-beneficiary, and P10,000 each to Dean’s Listers or those With High Honors.

As of April 2025, BAON has benefited about 5,000 students in the elementary, high school and college levels who are residents of Parañaque’s 2nd district.

Yamsuan said that on top of continuing his BAON program, he is also in talks with fellow lawmakers to determine how to increase government funding for the Parañaque City campus of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) so that more underprivileged but deserving students from the second district would be able to study in this state educational institution.

Established through the efforts of the city’s former mayor, Florencio Bernabe Jr., PUP Parañaque offers academic programs leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in computer engineering, hospitality management, information technology, and office administration. It also offers a Diploma in Office Management Technology-Legal Office Management.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon continued to implement reforms at the city-run Ospital ng Muntinlupa (OsMun) in Alabang.

On May 27, he went to the hospital to inspect a new batch of medical supplies, including medicine and items for hemodialysis.

“Bahagi ito ng tuluy-tuloy na reporma sa OsMun para matugunan ang pangangailangan ng ating mga pasyente at health workers (This is part of the ongoing reform at OsMun to meet the needs of our patients and health workers),” he posted on Facebook.

He said the immediate purchase of the supplies became possible when the direct management of OsMun was reverted to the Muntinupa City government. The hospital previously operated as a Local Economic Enterprise (LEE).

The mayor said that when the change in management took effect and in March, he designated a new group of officers in order to further improve the operation and quality of service at the hospital.

A medical storage facility will be built at Pacwood in Barangay Tunasan that will house medicine and supplies not only for Osmun but also for all health centers in Muntinlupa.

Muntinlupa City Government announces free medicine delivery service for elderly citizens and bedridden seniors

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, the City Government has officially announced RIDE Med (Responsive Integrated Delivery of Essential Medicines), a new program focused on delivering for free maintenance medicine to the homes of bedridden senior citizens and the elderly citizens (aged 80 and above).

The Muntinlupa City government will launch a free delivery service to bring maintenance medicine to the homes of senior citizens.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon said it will be called RIDE Med or Responsive Integrated Delivery of Essential Medicines that is designed to ease the burden of senior citizens and their families, especially those who struggle with mobility. He added that it seeks to eliminate the barriers that prevent many seniors from getting the treatment they need.

The beneficiaries of the program are senior citizens aged 80 and above, and bedridden residents aged 60 and older.

“Hindi natin pwedeng hayaan na ang ating mga lolo at lola, lalo na yung mga hindi na makalakad, ay mapag-iwanan. Serbisyo na ang lalapit sa kanila. Sa RIDE Med, ihahatid na natin ang gamot diretso sa bahay ng senior citizen (We cannot let our grandfathers and grandmothers, especially those who can no longer walk, be left behind. The service will come to them. With RIDE Med, we will deliver medicine directly to the senior citizen’s home),” Biazon said.

Under the program, eligible seniors will receive monthly deliveries of prescribed maintenance medicines, including losartan, amlodipine, metformin, and atorvastatin.

These medicines address common conditions among the elderly such as hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Deliveries will be carried out by assigned RIDE Med riders, accompanied by a barangay health worker to ensure proper coordination and follow-up.

To qualify, a senior citizen must be a resident of Muntinlupa City. Registration can be done by the senior’s caregiver or relative at their respective barangay health center. Home registration is also available by calling the program’s dedicated hotlines.

Mayor Biazon said other senior citizens, even if not bedridden or over 80 years old, may still receive the same free maintenance medicines by registering with the existing “Love ko si Lolo, Love ko si Lola” Program, and claiming their medicines at the local health centers.

The city government said RIDE Med represents a new level of care for senior citizens, providing not just free medicines, but also dignity and peace of mind.

Courageous Parañaque City cop commended

Recently a local police officer was commended by the Philippine National Police (PNP) for courageously doing his duty in Parañaque City and getting injured doing so, according a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The Philippine National Police (PNP) commended a Parañaque City cop who sustained injuries while fulfilling his duties.

Staff Sgt. Carlo Sotelo Navarro, 45, of the BF Homes Police Substation 5, showed the kind of courage expected of a cop when he attempted to pacify an aggressive suspect in Creek Drive 1, San Antonio Valley 8 on Friday morning, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said in a news release Saturday.

According to reports, Navarro, together with other police officers and members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), responded to a public disturbance alert.

When Navarro confronted the suspect identified as “Arnold,” the latter suddenly drew a kitchen knife and struck the police officer in the head and chest.

Navarro’s colleagues and BPAT members were able to restrain the suspect, who is now under police custody. The injured police officer was taken to a hospital and is already in stable condition.

“The courage of PSSg Navarro is a powerful reminder of the kind of sacrifice our police officers make every day. He answered the call of duty without hesitation, knowing the risks. That is true service. We pray for his recovery and salute his heroism,” Marbil said in a statement.

Motorcycle rider in Parañaque City caught carrying illegal substances worth over P300,000

A motorcycle rider initially stopped by police for not wearing a helmet was later found transporting P307,000 worth of illegal drugs in Parañaque City on Friday, May 23.

The suspect, identified as alias “Hidehiro,” 21, a resident of Tondo Manila, was apprehended at around 4:50 a.m. in front of Imperial Plaza on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

Officers from the Parañaque City Police Tambo Substation, conducting “Oplan Sita,” flagged down the suspect for failing to wear a helmet.

When police asked for Hidehiro’s driver’s license and motorcycle documents, he refused and attempted to flee by abandoning his motorcycle.

Upon inspection, police found in the suspect’s motorcycle compartment 40 grams of shabu packed in 15 aluminum sachets and 10 transparent sachets, with a total value of P272,000, along with ecstasy tablets worth P35,000.

Police arrested an employee of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for allegedly stabbing a man outside a video bar in Barangay Alabang, Muntinlupa on May 24.

The Muntinlupa police identified the suspect as alias Negro, 41, who is accused of stabbing alias Geomar, 28, tricycle driver, using a foldable knife after they had a violent argument in front of the Rubie Touch Videoke Bar.

The witness, alias “Katrina,” immediately sought police assistance from the Alabang sub-station. The police arrested Negro. Geomar, who was injured, was brought to the Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment and is under medical observation.

The police turned over the suspect to the Investigation and Detective Management Section for documentation and filing of criminal charges.

In its continued effort to support the welfare of the elderly, the Las Piñas Office for Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), in collaboration with the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), held an unclaimed payout event on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Las Piñas Café, City Hall Compound.

The program focused on disbursing financial assistance to octogenarians and nonagenarians who reached the milestone ages of 80, 85, 90, and 95, specifically for the months of February and March 2025. A total of 39 senior citizens benefited from the payout, each receiving P10,000 in financial aid.

Mayor-elect April Aguilar graced the event, offering words of encouragement and expressing her gratitude to the senior citizens for their valuable contribution to the community. Also present were OSCA Head Dr. Esther Oliveros and representatives from the NCSC, who ensured a smooth and respectful distribution of funds to the elderly attendees.

Free school supplies for incoming public school students of Muntinlupa City for school year 2025-2026 announced

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon announced that all incoming public school students from early childhood education to senior high school will again receive free school supplies and shoes.

He said the Muntinlupa City government will provide the free Balik Eskwela packages for public school students for school year 2025 to 2026.

Alam nating malaki ang gastos tuwing pasukan, kaya’t layunin nating matulungan ang mga magulang at tiyaking handa ang bawat batang Muntinlupeño sa pagbabalik-eskwela (We know that the expenses every start of schooling are big, so our goal is to help parents and ensure that every Muntinlupeño child is ready to return to school),” he said.

This is the third consecutive year that the Muntinlupa City government under the Biazon administration will give free school supplies to public school students.

Each Balik Eskwela package contains backpacks, notebooks, pad papers, pens and pencils, pencil case and black leather shoes. The packages have variations depending on the grade level.

The distribution schedule of the free Balik Eskwela packages will be announced later.
