Woman Arrested in Parañaque City for Deceiving Job Applicant, Accomplice Still at Large

Have you been very careful when applying for a job overseas? Recently in Parañaque City, a woman who deceived an applicant over an overseas job got arrested as a result of a successful entrapment operation by the local police, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

A woman who conned an applicant for a job in the Netherlands and Japan was arrested by the Parañaque City Police in an entrapment operation on July 16.

The suspect was identified as Mary Joyce, 26, while her accomplice, Nellica, remains at large. She was arrested at around 5:20 p.m. along Quirino Avenue, Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City.

The police said the victim, identified as Jennilyn, 29, reported that the suspects misrepresented themselves that they are connected with Dimension Manpower Agency Inc.

Jennilyn said the two promised her deployment in the Netherlands or in Japan on July 29 and asked for P175,000 as processing fee.

The victim also stated that when asked for an official receipt and update of her deployment, the suspects failed to provide any and instead demanded an additional P16,000 which prompted her to report to the police.

The police said the agency issued a certification notifying Jennilyn that the suspects are not connected with them, which led the police to conduct an entrapment operation.

The police immediately arrested Mary Joyce after receiving two P1,000 bills and 14 pieces of boodle money from the victim.

Online Lending Company Raided and 168 Employees Arrested Over Harassment Allegations

Recently in the City of Pasig, law enforcers raided an online lending firm and arrested one hundred and sixty-eight employees over alleged harassment of several borrowers, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article. It should be noted that one of the victims committed suicide due to harassment over money borrowed from the raided firm.

For the newcomers reading this, this is the latest development about local companies that lend money to clients who later get harassed or threatened as ways to compel them to pay back. There were similar developments that happened over the past few years which you can see by clicking here, here, here and here.

The Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) on Tuesday said an inter-agency operation in Pasig City has resulted in the arrest of 168 employees of an online lending company allegedly harassing borrowers.

In a statement, the PAOCC said the operation was conducted at the 22nd floor of Robinsons Equitable Tower in Pasig City, the main operating hub of Creditable Lending Corporation, the company behind the online lending application Easy Peso.

The operation was led by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG), and the PNP-CIDG, with support from the PAOCC, the National Privacy Commission (NPC), and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by virtue of a Warrant to Search, Seize, and Examine Computer Data (WSSECD) issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 46 in Manila.

Authorities seized hundreds of computers and several company-issued mobile phones allegedly used for harassment during debt collection, along with hundreds of pre-registered SIM cards, text blasters, and harassment scripts.

The raid followed months of surveillance and investigation, aided by the testimony of a former employee who came forward to expose how the company misled and harassed borrowers.

According to the PAOCC, some victims were directed to send payments to personal GCash or bank accounts under the guise of clearing their loans, only to be contacted again by collectors despite having paid.

This operation comes just days after a man from Valenzuela City took his own life after suffering harassment from individuals connected with Easy Peso.

“May isang buhay na nawala dahil sa pang-aabuso ng isang lending app. Hindi utang ang pumatay sa kanya kundi ‘yung walang-awang pangha-harass (A life was gone due to the abuses of a lending app. The victim did not die due to his debt, but due to cruel harassment),” PAOCC Executive Director Gilbert Cruz said.

“Sa bawat biktima, huwag kayong matakot. Hindi kayo nag-iisa. Nandito ang gobyerno na handa kayong tulungan (To each victim, don’t be scared. You are not alone. The government is here ready to help you) ,” he said

Meanwhile, the SEC is reviewing the company’s legal and regulatory compliance, as its operations appear to have exploited the system while falsely claiming legitimacy.

Suspects behind murder and robbery of TNVS driver in Parañaque City surrender to authorities in another city

The three individuals who were involved in the murder and robbery of a TNVS driver in Parañaque City came out and surrendered to authorities in the City of Manila, according to a GMA Network news report. The body of the victim was eventually found.

The three suspects behind the murder and robbery of a TNVS driver in Parañaque City last May have surrendered to authorities on Monday.

According to Jaime Santos’ report in “Saksi”, the families of the suspects coordinated with their barangay chairperson and councilor to surrender before Manila Mayor Isko Moreno. The mayor, on the other hand, coordinated with the Manila Police District and the Northern Police District.

The families of the suspects feared for their safety after their identities were reported, the report added.

“Humingi sila ng tulong kung paano sila susuko sa alagad ng batas, through some assistance from the Northern Police District and the Manila Police District, nandito sila kanina. Gusto ko rin ipaalam sa inyo na ang pamilya ng mga suspects ay nandito rin. Kinausap ko sila kanina,” said Moreno.

(They asked for help on how they can surrender to the authorities, through some assistance from the Northern Police District and the Manila Police District, who were also here earlier. I also want to inform you that the family of the suspects are also present here. I talked with them earlier.)

Meanwhile, the suspects have yet to declare where they disposed the victim’s body.

“Disgrasya lang po talaga ang lahat…Hindi ko na po masasagot…Sa NBI ko na lang po ipapaliwanag ang lahat po,” one of the suspects said.

(Everything was just an accident…I cannot answer anymore….I will just explain everything to the NBI.)

Moreno said that it will be up to the National Bureau of Investigation to take the next steps on the case. The suspects are now in NBI custody.

The suspects were picked up by the victim in Parañaque last May 18. The car didn’t reach its destination in Molino, Cavite and instead was driven around the province.

Audio from the car’s dashcam indicated that the victim, Raymond Cabrera, was no longer driving the car. It can also be heard from the audio that he was being stabbed.

Two ex-POGO workers arrested in Las Piñas City for selling fake money online

Two former Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) workers were arrested for allegedly selling fake money online in Las Piñas City, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) said on Friday.

In a press conference held at Camp Crame in Quezon City, PNP ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said suspects alias “Usa,” 18, a resident of Cotabato City; and “Agila,” 30, of Zamboanga Del Sur were arrested by the Northern District Anti-Cybercrime Team, in coordination with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), in an entrapment operation in Barangay Manuyo Dos on Wednesday.

“’Yung dalawang nahuli natin, we can confirm that they are former employees of POGO. Ito ay mga driver ng ating POGO companies. They started selling these fake money nung nag-stop na sila sa POGO (These two we caught, we can confirm that they are former POGO employees … They were drivers of POGO companies. They started selling this fake money when POGOs were shut down),” Yang said.

He said the suspects mainly operated in Metro Manila, according to reports.

In November last year, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued Executive Order 74, ordering the immediate ban of the Philippine offshore gaming, internet gaming and other offshore gaming operations.

The entrapment operation stemmed from a report by the BSP regarding the rampant online sale of fake currency.

In response, the Northern District Anti-Cybercrime Team intensified its cyber patrolling efforts until they came across a social media post by one of the suspects offering a counterfeit PHP1,000 bill for sale at PHP150.

A total of 150 counterfeit thousand-peso bills were confiscated from the suspects, who sold them for PHP22,500 during the operation.

“May online group talaga na nagbebenta. Several groups ito. So, sinumbong namin ito sa ACG (There really are online groups where they sell these. There are several groups. So, we reported this to the ACG),” BPS Payments and Currency Investigation Group officer Mark Fajardo said at the press conference.

“Hindi maganda. Medyo apurahan ang pagkakagawa kasi hindi sila sanay (It’s not good. How it was done seems sloppy because they were not experienced),” Fajardo told reporters when asked about the quality of the counterfeit money confiscated

He said they are able to tell the fake banknotes apart because the watermark on them was more apparent and the security thread was only printed.

When asked whether the police have already determined who had supplied the fake banknotes, Yang said they are looking into a bigger figure.

The suspects are detained at the ACG custodial facility and will be facing charges for violation of Article 168 (Illegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes and Other Instruments of Credit) in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.

Yang said the operation aligns with the directive of PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III to intensify cyber patrolling and implement immediate action to prevent cybercriminals from exploiting social media platforms.

Members of the Las Pinas Police Warrant and Subpoena Section arrested a 19-year-old man, tagged as No. 3 most wanted person at the regional level, on Tuesday, July 1, for two counts of statutory rape.

Col. Sandro Tafalla, Las Pinas Police chief, said the suspect was nabbed at his residence on Ruby St., Saint Mary’s Home in Barangay Almanza Uno, Las Pinas City.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Judge Kathryn Sabado of the Las Pinas Regional Trial Court Branch 202, with no bail recommended.

Tafalla noted that upon verification through the Investigation Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) system, the suspect’s name did not appear in the E-warrant and E-Rouge police databases.

Further checks, however, confirmed that the case was listed in the Crime Information, Reporting, and Analysis System (CIRAS) — an electronic system designed to digitize and streamline crime documentation.

Tafalla explained that CIRAS serves as a modernized version of the traditional police blotter, providing a more efficient and standardized crime data management.

12 Arrested in Parañaque City for Illegal Online Gambling

Operatives from the Southern Police District (SPD) arrested taxi and transport drivers engaged in illegal online gambling inside a transportation hub in Paranaque City on July 3.

SPD Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo identified the suspects as taxi drivers Mark, 35; Reynante, 43; Gilleard, 52; Jimmy, 54; Ely, 38; Rodel, 48; Ronaldo, 63; Sunny, 51; and Joeuie, 50; Conrado, 41, a ride-hailing driver; John Robert, 50, a modern jeep conductor; and Domingo, 43.

Arceo said members of the SPD- Special Operation Unit (DSOU), with support from the District Intelligence Division (DID) and the Paranaque City Police Substation 3, arrested the suspects at the PITX Taxi Lane in Barangay Tambo, Paranaque City, at around 10:30 p.m.

He said police operatives acted on complaint from a concerned citizen that a group of taxi drivers were engaged in online cockfighting or “E-sabong” while waiting for passengers.

The SPD chief said the arrested taxi drivers engaged in guerrilla-style gambling, causing them to overcharge their passengers for their fares to recover from their losses.

Police recovered two mobile phones used in placing bets and betting money amounting to ₱3,545.

The suspects were brought to the DSOU-SPD Office and were charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 on illegal gambling.

A construction worker was arrested by the combined team from the Paranaque City Police and the Southern Police District Mobile Force Battalion for stabbing and seriously wounding a restaurant bar waiter.

The suspect, identified as Eric, 41, was arrested by the authorities a few meters away from a restaurant bar in Barangay Baclaran at around 10:40 p.m.

The victim was identified as Alex, 42. He suffered a stab wound in the body and was immediately brought to the Ospital ng Maynila for treatment.

The police who immediately responded after receiving the report spotted the suspect walking with blood stains on his shirt and holding a 12-inch kitchen knife.

The suspect was positively identified by a witness, Joemer, 44, as the one who stabbed and seriously wounded Alex after a heated argument.

Police arrested a suspected high-value drug personality and seized P544,000 worth of shabu during a buy-bust operation in Parañaque City on Wednesday, June 19.

The Southern Police District (SPD) said the suspect, identified only as Jose, 21, was arrested at around 9:00 p.m. in Barangay San Isidro by operatives of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU).

Police said the operation stemmed from reports by concerned residents about the suspect’s alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.

Confiscated from the suspect were 80 grams of shabu valued at P544,000, a black backpack, a cellphone used in illegal drug transactions, and P1,000 in marked buy-bust money. The seized drugs were turned over to the SPD Forensic Unit for laboratory examination.

Two traffic violators with history of extortion arrested in Parañaque City

Recently in the city of Parañaque, two traffic violators were apprehended by the Highway Patrol Group (HGP) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and seized from them a gun, ammunition and even bullet-proof vests to name a few, according to a news article by the Philippine News Agency (PNA). It turns out, the suspects were previously involved in extortion.

Two persons arrested for traffic violations by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) were later found to be behind an extortion scheme using the name of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos.

HPG Director Brig. Gen. Eleazar Matta said “Joselito” and “JJ Café” failed to present documents when their car was stopped for illegal use of a blinker and protocol plate number “12” (Cabinet undersecretary) along Filipinas Avenue in Parañaque City on Friday.

The HPG operatives also seized a 9mm pistol, ammunition, handheld radios, three bulletproof vests and a C-4 explosive.

“We are investigating because they appear to be ready for any armed confrontation, and why were they carrying C-4?” Matta said in a press conference at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Sunday.

“We are also conducting a follow-up operation because the report we received was that there was another vehicle that was able to flee.”

Ambassador Markus Lacanilao, Special Envoy on Transnational Crime, said Joselito was among the three arrested in an entrapment in Pasay City in March last year but later posted bail.

Joselito’s group allegedly threatened to shut down an emission testing business if the owner would not give PHP5 million. Lacanilao said the apprehended vehicle was the same car used by three suspects.

He also confirmed that JJ Café was the same person who introduced himself as Office of the President undersecretary and a relative of the First Lady to get government contracts.

“They were asking money in exchange for the approval of business lime medicine and emission. And they were showing a video of the man posing as undersecretary at the Office of the President,” Lacanilao said.

Lacanilao advised the public not to yield to extortion demands using the name of the First Family and instead report the matter to authorities.

Lesbian helper arrested for sexually abusing minor

Armed with a warrant of arrest, police officers of Marikina City arrested a lesbian helper in Quezon province for the repeated sexual abuse committed in 2024 against the 9-year-old daughter of her employer, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The suspect has since been transferred to and detained in Marikina City.

A 40-year-old lesbian nanny was arrested for repeatedly sexually abusing her employer’s nine-year-old daughter in 2024 in Marikina City.

The Eastern Police District (EPD) identified the suspect as “Jennifer,” listed as the district’s No. 3 most wanted person. She was arrested by the Station Intelligence Section of the Marikina City Police Station in Candelaria, Quezon on June 7.

The operation was carried out by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by the Acting Presiding Judge of RTC Branch 192 in Marikina City. The warrants were for charges of Sexual Assault and 15 counts of Acts of Lasciviousness in relation to RA 7610, issued on January 28.

Authorities said the suspect served as a helper and nanny in the victim’s household in Marikina. The abuse, committed 15 times, took place from August to September 2024.

On September 21, 2024, the victim found the courage to tell her mother about the incident, prompting them to go to their barangay’s Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) desk, where they were assisted in reporting it to the police.

EPD District Director Brig. Gen. Aden T. Lagradante vowed to boost efforts to protect children and keep communities safe to help reduce cases of child abuse.

“Nakakadurog ng puso ang nangyari sa inosenteng bata. Paglalaro at kasiyahan lang sana ang nasa kanyang isipan ngunit sa murang edad ay naranasan na niya ang karahasan ng isang mapagsamantala sa kanyang kahinaan (What happened to the innocent child is truly heartbreaking. At her age, she should have only been thinking about play and joy, but instead, she experienced violence at the hands of someone who took advantage of her vulnerability),” he said.
