Investigation on Muntinlupa City basketball chaos initiated

Very recently in the City of Muntinlupa, the championship game of the La Liga de Muntinlupa Tournament 2024 held at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex turned chaotic which resulted in the launch of an investigation, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Mayor Ruffy Biazon said an investigation was launched after a championship game between Barangays Cupang and Bayanan teams under the La Liga de Muntinlupa Basketball Tournament 2024 on July 5 turned into a chaos with a player and a referee having a confrontation and monoblock chairs being thrown by the crowd.

The first game of the Best of 3 Finals between Cupang and Bayanan was held at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

The game became disorderly after a player and a referee had a confrontation in the court. At the time, the scores were 97 for Cupang and 96 for Bayanan.

“Security! Security! Security!” the announcer called as the chaos erupted inside the court.

People in the crowd went inside the court and charged the referee. People threw monoblock chairs and water bottles.

In a statement, Biazon said, “Kinalulungkot ko ang nangyari sa maganda sanang championship game ng La Liga de Muntinlupa na nauwi sa kaguluhan (I am saddened that what was supposed to be nice championship game in La Liga de Muntinlupa ended up into chaos).”

He said instead of sportsmanship and unity fostered by the basketball tournament, the game became a bad example for the youth because of the attitude shown by some of the players and the crowd.

“Ayon sa Liga ng mga Barangay na organizer ng event, ongoing ang imbestigasyon at maghahain sila ng reklamo laban sa mga mapapatunayang sangkot sa gulo (According to the Liga na mga Barangay, which is the organier of the event, the investigation is ongoing and they will file a complaint against those who will be found involved in the mess),” the mayor added.

Biazon said he will order barangay captains to submit a report about what happened during the game.

“Hindi ito basta simpleng init ng ulo sa basketball, nalagay sa alanganin ang kapayapaan at kaayusan sa ating lungsod. Merong nambato ng silya, may sumugod, may nagtangkang manakit. Hindi natin palalampasin ito at may kalalagyan din sila sa batas (This is not a simple temper. Peace and order in our city was put in jeopardy. Someone threw a chair, someone advanced, there are those who attempted to hurt. We will not let these pass and they will have a place in law),” he said.

Barangay Poblacion Chairman Allen Ampaya, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in Muntinlupa, said they will make sure to identify those who were involved in the mess.

“Ongoing na ang imbestigasyon at maghahain tayo ng reklamo laban sa mga gumambala sa ating liga. Kakaharapin po nila ang parusang naaayon sa batas (The investigation is ongoing and we will file a complaint against those who disturbed our league. They will face punishment according to the law),” he said.

About the players, he said, “Para sa mga manlalaro namang mapapatunayang sangkot sa gulo, kakaharapin nila ang kaukulang penalty ayon sa rules ng liga (To the players who will be found involved in the mess, they will face the corresponding penalty based on the league rules).

City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar led the inauguration and blessing of a new four-storey building at the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Piñas – Main Campus in Barangay Talon Tres on Thursday.

The ceremony saw attendance from local government officials, college administrators, and faculty members. The new building addresses the increasing need for additional facilities due to the growing number of students enrolled at the college.

More than P783 million deposited through BSP’s coin machines

Over P783 million worth of coins have been deposited through the many coin deposit machines (CoDMs) of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as of June 23, 2024, as published on their website.

Based on the latest statistics, a total of P783,628,810.29 (10.7% higher than the previous month’s count of P707,661,554.41) in coins got deposited into BSP machines on 191,804 transactions (9.8% higher than the previous month’s 174,656 transactions) from customers. In terms of physical quantity, 211,689,731 in coins were deposited. The previous count of deposited coins was 193,901,254.

Doing the math on the latest statistics, customers averaged P4,085.57 per transaction (versus the previous month’s P4,051.74 per transaction) at the machines. As for the grand total Peso amount divided by the number of coins deposited, the average is P3.7018 per coin deposited (versus the previous month’s average of P3.6496 per coin deposited).

New hotel in Parañaque City inaugurated

Recently in the city of Parañaque, the newly opened Grand Westside Hotel located in Entertainment City was inaugurated with the presence of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., who expressed confidence about its tourism and economic prospects, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday said the newly opened Grand Westside Hotel in Paranaque City, tagged the biggest hotel development in the country yet, would be a major economic and tourism boost.

During the inauguration of Megaworld’s Grand Westside Hotel, Marcos said the 19-story establishment with over 1,500 rooms would not only strengthen the government’s tourism campaign but would also generate more jobs and business opportunities for Filipinos.

Marcos said the hotel’s addition to Philippine tourism is particularly noteworthy in light of the sector’s “remarkable” growth, which contributed 8.6 percent to the country’s gross domestic product in 2023.

“Thanks to this hotel, we can do more. Not only can we accommodate the resurging number of local and international tourists coming to this side of Metro Manila, but we can also expect our Entertainment City to become better known and even more distinguished, elevating its status to more potential visitors in the coming years,” the President said in his speech.

Marcos disclosed that other developments from the real property giant are underway, including the 1,500-seater Grand Opera House also in Paranaque, more theaters and a gaming complex, among other things.

“With all these, we foresee not only the entry of more tourists but also the generation of more jobs, of new businesses and greater opportunity. In fact, [while] many have benefitted from the actual construction of these [properties], around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs will still be created throughout the operation of this hotel in the years to come,” he said.

The President said he is looking forward to Megaworld’s triumphs that will “undoubtedly contribute to the new Philippines, ang Bagong Pilipinas.”

Muntinlupa City tops NCR rating for Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance award of 2022

Mayor Ruffy Biazon announced that the Muntinlupa City government got the highest rating in the National Capital Region for the 2022 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance.

He said he received the 2022 Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance award from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The award is given to local government units that have shown excellence in implementing programs for the youth and have passed the 2022 Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA).

Biazon said the Muntinlupa City government received a rating of 97 percent, the highest among LGUs in NCR.

“Mula pa noong 2015, recipient na ang Muntinlupa ng Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance award. Patunay ito sa commitment natin sa pagsulong ng kapakanan at mga karapatan ng kabataang Muntinlupeño (Since 2015, Muntinlupa has been a recipient of the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance award. The National Capital Region Police Office announced the arrest of a high-profile fugitive tagged by the Chinese government as an undesirable alien.

A composite team from the Fugitive Search Unit, Bureau Immigration and Deportation and the Parañaque City Police Station arrested Zhu Tingyun in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City on Wednesday.

Zhu, 43, was a senior manager of an illegally established online gambling company in the Philippines, with an estimated income of CNY 30 billion from its illegal activities since 2016.

The suspect has been on the run since an outstanding warrant of arrest was issued against him by the Guangxi Cangwu Public Security Bureau on March 2, 2023 for operating a gambling house.

Great majority of participating Las Piñas City voters approve ordinance on territorial boundaries of barangays during COMELEC-led plebiscite

More than two-thirds of the participating voters of Las Piñas City approved the ordinance setting the territorial boundaries of the twenty barangays during the plebiscite this past Saturday which was handled by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), according to a GMA Network news report. Specifically, 68% of the voters voted in favor of the proposal although COMELEC chairman George Garcia pointed out that the voter turnout was low.

Over 41,000 residents (67%) of Las Piñas City on Saturday voted in favor of an ordinance that sets the territorial boundaries of the 20 barangays in the city.

Based on the certificate of canvass of votes shared by Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia to members of the media, 41,493 residents voted “yes” while 19,498 voted “no” when asked if they agree with delineating the territorial boundaries of the 20 barangays.

With this, the ordinance was proclaimed ratified and approved.

“Nanalo po ang ‘yes,’ and therefore epektibo na ang ordinansa tungkol sa pagliliwanag ng paghahati ng bawat barangay doon sa 20 barangays sa Las Piñas,” Garcia said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.

(‘Yes’ won, and therefore the ordinance regarding the delineation of the division of each barangay in the 20 barangays in Las Piñas is now effective.)

He, however, lamented the low voter turnout which was only around 20%. Las Piñas City has a total of 308,059 registered voters, but only 61,237 voters actually voted in the plebiscite.

Ordinance No. 1941-23 Series of 2023 delineates the territorial boundaries of the 20 barangays in the city in accordance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ cadastral survey that was completed in March 2015.

The ordinance states that since the creation of the barangays in 1978, “the territorial metes and bounds of the said barangays have not been properly identified such that there are barangays whose land areas are not contiguous and/or overlapping with another barangay.”

“Moreover, confusion in the territorial boundaries of the barangays is being encountered which could cause disputes, or be subject of disputes, especially since the cadastral mapping in 1980 for the barangays conflicted with the boundaries as set forth in the Presidential Decrees,” the ordinance added.

Hundreds of volunteers in Muntinlupa City conduct cleanup drive against dengue

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, hundreds of volunteers from the City Government, agencies and the private sector organized a cleanup activity against dengue, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

More than 500 volunteers from the Muntinlupa City Government, partner agencies, and private companies conducted a simultaneous cleanup activity to prevent the spread of dengue.

Under the “Dengue, ‘Di Pwede!” campaign, they collected over 110 sacks of solid waste from streets, canals, and creeks all over the city.

Officials from the Muntinlupa City Health Office conducted a lecture before the cleanup activity to provide information on ways to avoid dengue and what to do in case one gets sick.

From Jan. 1 to June 3 this year, the CHO recorded 80 dengue cases in Muntinlupa with zero deaths compared to 81 during the same period last year.

Barangays Alabang and Cupang had the highest cases with 17 each, followed by Putatan (13), Poblacion (11), Bayanan (9), Tunasan (8), Buli (3), Sucat (2) and Ayala Alabang (0).

Cupang had the highest dengue attack rate at 2.9 per 10,000 population

Volunteers signed up under the Make Your City Proud (MYCP) campaign, a program of the city government that encourages community members to participate in various activities.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) operatives on Sunday arrested a cop in a drug buy-bust operation in Parañaque City.

NCRPO Director Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. identified the suspect as Cpl. Neil Bagunu, 31, presently assigned at the National Police Training Institute (NPTI).

He was arrested in Purok-2 Formost Street in Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City after receiving the marked and boodle money from a poseur buyer as payment for shabu at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Nartatez said the operatives seized drug paraphernalia worth PHP136,000 and a .45- caliber pistol.

The cop, he said, was brought to the Paranaque Police Station to face criminal and administrative charges.

He said over 500 policemen in Metro Manila have been dismissed from the service as part of the NCRPO’s internal cleansing since July last year.

A man wanted for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide in Northern, Samar was arrested by members of the Parañaque City Police’s Warrant and Subpoena Section on Friday, June 14.

The Southern Police District (SPD) said the suspect, identified as alias John, 34, was arrested at around 8:00 a.m. in Barangay Moonwalk, Parañaque City.

The suspect, who was tagged as Top 4 wanted person in Samar for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, was arrested by members of the WSS who were conducting operations against wanted person.

The police said John was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Nilo Yu Dela Cruz of the Municipal Trial Court, Eighth Judicial Region, San Isidro, Northern Samar on May 14, 2024.
