Parañaque Online Scam Hub Raided By CIDG, 14 Suspects Apprehended

Recently in the City of Parañaque, operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) successfully raided an online scam hub, seized several pieces of equipment and arrested fourteen suspects, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested 14 people, including a female foreigner, following a raid in an online scam hub in Parañaque City.

CIDG director Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano said the operation also resulted in the rescue of a minor who was hired as one of the scammers in what he called ” online task job scam”.

“This underscores our unyielding fight against trafficking in persons, child abuse, and cybercrimes. With this, we significantly prevented future ‘online task job scam’ from happening,” he said.

Abrahano explained that the modus of the syndicate is to operate through the online messaging application “Telegram” where the suspects/scammers send links to their intended victims. Each suspect, he said, is assigned to 600 Telegram accounts to contact potential victims.

The CIDG chief said that once the link is accessed, the victims are directed to a so-called “task job,” which assigns simple online tasks such as liking the pages of hotel packages. After the completion of these tasks, the victims are instructed to open a Binance account – cryptocurrency account.

After creating the account, Abrahano said the scammers would require the victims to deposit funds into it. The victims are subsequently directed to transfer the deposited funds into a Binance account allegedly managed by the arrested Chinese manager.

“The scammers/suspects will lure victims that the transferred money will generate profit or accrue interest, promising continuous growth of the investment,” said Abrahano.

This misrepresentation forms the basis of the fraudulent scheme, ultimately leading to financial loss on the part of the victims,” he added.

During the raid in Barangay Tambo, CIDG operatives seized 70 desktop computers, cellular phones, computer peripherals, vault, dormitory pass IDs, and passports. They also discovered cryptocurrency account numbers.

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two individuals and seized substandard Apple products worth PHP121.4 million in Parañaque City.

In a statement on Monday, CIDG acting chief Brig. Gen. Romeo Macapaz said the suspects “Crissa” and “Charles” were caught in the act of selling assorted Apple products such as iPhone, Apple Watch and accessories without the required clearance from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and registration from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), during the operation in a residential compound in Barangay Tambo on July 19.

This act violates Articles 18 and 50 of Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines, in relation to Section 2 of NTC Memorandum Circular 08-08-2004A.

The CIDG seized nine boxes of Apple iWatches (225 units), 14 boxes of MagSafe chargers (531 units), 92 boxes of AirPods (4,580 units), including seven boxes of charger adaptors (2,652 units), 37 boxes of charger sets (6,664 units), 18 boxes of iPhone accessories (1,033 units), one box of car chargers (70 units), 10 boxes of charging cords (1,740 units), two boxes of handheld fans (87 units), three boxes of hair dryers (77 units), three boxes of Beats Solo headphones (126 units), one unit of iPhone 16, and one box of earphones (110 units) with estimated market value of PHP121.47 million.

12 Arrested in Parañaque City for Illegal Online Gambling

Operatives from the Southern Police District (SPD) arrested taxi and transport drivers engaged in illegal online gambling inside a transportation hub in Paranaque City on July 3.

SPD Director Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo identified the suspects as taxi drivers Mark, 35; Reynante, 43; Gilleard, 52; Jimmy, 54; Ely, 38; Rodel, 48; Ronaldo, 63; Sunny, 51; and Joeuie, 50; Conrado, 41, a ride-hailing driver; John Robert, 50, a modern jeep conductor; and Domingo, 43.

Arceo said members of the SPD- Special Operation Unit (DSOU), with support from the District Intelligence Division (DID) and the Paranaque City Police Substation 3, arrested the suspects at the PITX Taxi Lane in Barangay Tambo, Paranaque City, at around 10:30 p.m.

He said police operatives acted on complaint from a concerned citizen that a group of taxi drivers were engaged in online cockfighting or “E-sabong” while waiting for passengers.

The SPD chief said the arrested taxi drivers engaged in guerrilla-style gambling, causing them to overcharge their passengers for their fares to recover from their losses.

Police recovered two mobile phones used in placing bets and betting money amounting to ₱3,545.

The suspects were brought to the DSOU-SPD Office and were charged for violation of Presidential Decree 1602 on illegal gambling.

Three gunrunning suspects were arrested and five loose firearms were seized by the Philippine National Police – Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) during an entrapment operation in Parañaque City, a ranking official bared Friday, June 20.

Police Brig. Gen. Rolindo M. Suguilon, CIDG officer-in-charge, identified the suspects as alias “Johnel”, an electrical engineer; “James”, a businessman; and “Rolyn”, a dentist.

The suspects were allegedly caught in the act of delivering and trading five unlicensed firearms at an open parking lot of a mall in Barangay Tambo last June 18.

Authorities recovered from the suspects three caliber 5.56 Bushmaster rifles, a caliber 9mm pistol, and a caliber 22 pistol.

“The suspects are allegedly involved in gunrunning and the illegal firearms trade operating within the National Capital Region,” Suguilon said.

Three drug suspects who were tagged by the police as street-level individuals (SLI), were arrested during the conduct of a buy-bust operation by the Paranaque City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) on June 4.

The Southern Police District (SPD) identified the suspects as Jhelne, 28; Jeffrey, 42; and Jayson, 39. They were arrested at around 12:10 a.m. at the Puyat Compound, Barangay Tambo, Paranaque City.

The SPD said the SDEU conducted an anti-illegal drugs operation targeting a certain Jhelyn who was reported to be hooked on drugs.

The SDEU was able to confiscate from the suspects about 25 grams of shabu worth P170,000, the P500 marked money used in the buy-bust operation, and a black cellular phone.

A motorcycle rider initially stopped by police for not wearing a helmet was later found transporting P307,000 worth of illegal drugs in Parañaque City on Friday, May 23.

The suspect, identified as alias “Hidehiro,” 21, a resident of Tondo Manila, was apprehended at around 4:50 a.m. in front of Imperial Plaza on Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

Officers from the Parañaque City Police Tambo Substation, conducting “Oplan Sita,” flagged down the suspect for failing to wear a helmet.

When police asked for Hidehiro’s driver’s license and motorcycle documents, he refused and attempted to flee by abandoning his motorcycle.

Upon inspection, police found in the suspect’s motorcycle compartment 40 grams of shabu packed in 15 aluminum sachets and 10 transparent sachets, with a total value of P272,000, along with ecstasy tablets worth P35,000.

Two Chinese nationals arrested in Parañaque City for selling unregistered medicines

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have arrested two Chinese nationals allegedly involved in selling unregistered medicines in Metro Manila.

Agents of the CIDG-Detective and Special Operations Unit nabbed suspects Hu and Quan in a buy-bust at Concorde Village, Tambo, Parañaque City past midnight Saturday.

According to a news release Sunday, the CIDG agents confiscated two boxes of OTC 999 – Ganmaoling Keli, 20 boxes of Glucophage – Metformin Hydrochloride Extended-release tablets, two boxes of Amlodepine Besilate tablets, three boxes of Linou – Gliclazide tablets, two boxes of OTC – Longdan Xiegan pills, four boxes of Zhibai Dihuang pills, one box of Bear Bile powder, 12 boxes Diamicron – Gliclazide tablets and 16 boxes Bayaspirin – Aspirin Enteric-coated tablets.

The medicines, with an estimated market value of PHP15,000, are not registered with the Food and Drug Administration.

The suspects will be charged with violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9711 (FDA Act of 2009) which prohibits manufacturing, importation, export, sale, distribution and transfer of unregistered drugs.

CIDG chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities related to the sale of unregistered medicines.

NBI agents arrest 12 Chinese nationals in Parañaque City for alleged scamming and immigration violations, 5 locals arrested for bribery attempt at NBI office

Recently in the city of Parañaque, agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) apprehended twelve Chinese nationals and five locals for alleged scamming operations and an attempt of bribery, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

Twelve Chinese nationals and five Filipinos were arrested for alleged scamming operations and attempted bribery, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) bared Tuesday.

The foreigners were arrested in an operation on Jan. 8, 2025, at the Rance Corporate Center Aseana City in Tambo, Paranaque City for alleged violation of the Philippine Immigration Act.

During the operation, NBI personnel found “romance or love scam scripts, messaging applications with fictitious accounts, bank accounts, and fraudulent cryptocurrency scams, and fake investment schemes.”

The discovery resulted in the arrest of 12 Chinese nationals namely: Xu Chao, Meng Wei Shi, Xing Chao, Qin Hai Feng, Li Xiang Hua, Zhang Wei, Wang Qin Xiang, Wang Jia Fa, Jiang Qi Long, Luo Shang Fen, Qixin Wang, and Chen Jiang Song.

The NBI said while the operatives were preparing to return to headquarters with the arrested subjects, a certain Ezechiel Bernales volunteered to come with them, claiming that he is the suspects’ official interpreter.

Bernales allegedly told the NBI operatives that Wang Qin Xiang and Qixin Wang were offering to pay PHP300,000 for the release of each arrested individual or a total of PHP3,600,000.

An entrapment operation was then conducted at the parking lot of the NBI office in Pasay City on Jan. 10 resulting in the arrest of Bernales and four others, namely: Robustiano Hizon, John Abunda Villanueva, Kristoffer Habelito Baguna, and Hanif Bautil.

DILG will ask Parañaque City Government to explain scam hub operation with hundreds of workers

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will ask the Parañaque government for an explanation over the raided company in the city that was allegedly involved in scam hub operations, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said Friday.

The raid took place only a few days after the December 31, 2024 deadline for Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country.

“Magsusulat kami sa LGU para… manghihingi kami ng paliwanag kung ano talaga ang nangyari,” Remulla said in an ambush interview.

This came after authorities raided a company in the city on Wednesday and arrested 400 foreigners.

Remulla, however, said he believes that the local government was unaware of the presence of the company as it has yet to inspect the area where the raid took place.

“Hindi pa alam ng Parañaque ‘yan kasi hindi pa nag re-renew ng business permit. Doon lang naman pumapasok ‘yan, basta nag re-renew ng business permit ‘yan,” he said.

(Parañaque does not know about that because they have yet to renew their business permit. That’s the only way they can inspect, as long as they renew their business permit.)

The official said it seems that the hub was previously operating as a POGO under the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation.

“They supposedly shut down [on] December 15 pero nag resume kaagad sila right after ng December 31. Chineck natin ‘yung mga buildings na ‘yun wala na sila doon pero bumalik at bumalik sila,” Remulla said.

(They supposedly shut down on December 15 but resumed immediately after December 31. We checked those buildings and they were no longer there, but they went back.)

More than 400 individuals allegedly engaged in online scams were arrested by law enforcement agencies in Parañaque City on Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Southern Police District director Brig. Gen. Manuel Abrugena said the Parañaque City Police rendered assistance to the joint operation conducted by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Abrugena said the 400 individuals, composed of foreign nationals and Filipinos, were arrested at around 4:00 p.m. in two units of a corporate center on Asiana Avenue in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.

He said the operation was conducted as part of a BI mission order targeting foreign nationals involved in illegal activities in the country.

The SPD chief said the arrested persons were engaged in various unlawful activities, including operating online scams and violating immigration laws.

Abrugena said the arrested persons, including one alias “Liang,” are now (under) investigation. They were brought to the BI facility for documentation and legal action.
