My Observations: Pasta and Pizza at NYSM Pizzeria

Apart from being a very long road named after the family that owns Banco Filipino, Aguirre Avenue inside BF Homes subdivision in Parañaque City is famous for being home to multiple types of businesses. Among those businesses are restaurants which easily attract both villagers and many outsiders to try out their meals, beverages and special stuff.

Recently my friends and I, on different times, got to visit an Italian restaurant along Aguirre Avenue called NYSM Pizzeria located at 262 Aguirre Avenue. Specifically the pizzeria is a short drive away from the Starbucks Phase 3 coffee shop and from a certain famous pizza restaurant.

The first time I visited NYSM Pizzeria was purely out of curiosity. After struggling with deciding what to pick from their menu, I ordered a pizza – the New England’s Best pizza.

The small New England’s Best pizza.

Composed of ground beef, pepperoni, mushroom, onions, bell pepper and sausage, the New England’s Best pizza tasted great! It was well cooked and its crust has that peculiar texture. It feels much more filling than a thin-crust pizza and yet it’s not as thick as a pan pizza. It just feels right to chew on and be satisfied.

In further visits, this time with friends, we tried their other pizzas and more of their meals and appetizers.

A slice of El Taco pizza.

The El Taco pizza pictured above truly lives up to its name as it almost perfectly captures the taste of the taco of Mexico. I like the way NYSM Pizzeria’s cook prepared the ingredients that gave it a very unique flavor for a pizza. I’ve tried other taco-inspired pizzas in other restaurants but NYSM Pizzeria’s El Taco really captured the Mexican flavor.

A really fresh salad.

Spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread!

NYSM Pizzeria also has a nice lineup of pasta. What stood out for me was their spaghetti served with meat balls and bread with garlic. For P300 (note: this was before they updated their menu and prices), it was both very tasty (note: condiments were not needed at all) and satisfying. I also liked the fact that the meat balls had a layer of melted cheese touching them.

Having tried at least three flavors of pizza, two of their pasta, their salad and a few appetizers, I can say that NYSM Pizzeria’s kitchen personnel really know how to prepare the meals and make them delicious and satisfying. I would not hesitate to return to their restaurant for more of their meals.

NYSM Pizzera’s interior, by the way, has an eye-catching New York-style subway train decoration with a door that leads into their bar (inside is a nice window facing Aguirre Avenue).  Check out the picture below.

You must be wondering, “What does NYSM mean?”

It means: New York State of Mind.

BF NorthWest 2019 Election – Election Committee (EleCom) Members Search is Ongoing!

BF NorthWest, which is one of the most notable and largest enclaves of BF Homes subdivision in Parañaque City, Philippines, will be having its election for members of their Board of Directors (BOD) this November (last week of November, specifically).

HOWEVER, in order for the election to proceed, the BF NorthWest Homeowners Association, Inc. called out to its members (homeowners) who wish to be members of the Election Committee (EleCom) which is essential.

The Criteria for village members to be an EleCom member is as follows:

* Homeowner in good standing (dues are paid, no legal impediments)
* over 18 years old
* Is not running/interested in being a District officer.

The EleCom is an independent body and its members cannot be a current nor a prospective District officer. A current board or other committee member cannot be involved in the EleCom process.

Among the tasks for EleCom members include reviewing past election processes, make recommendations (if required), discuss eligibility to be voted, be responsible for balot counting and a few other tasks.

The BF NorthWest HOA is looking for members who will ensure that the process of voting is not compromised by any form of fraud, and that it will be peaceful, organized and transparent.

How many EleCom members required? The answer: five.

Should the BF NorthWest HOA get many expressions of interest, the current board will make a selection according to merit. The board envisage that an initial meeting of the EleCom would start on August 2019 with meetings that will be held monthly or bi-monthly. As the EleCom is voluntary, there is no remuneration.

Interested parties among legitimate members of the BF NorthWest HOA are encouraged to proceed to the office along Djakarta street and look for village administrator Mr. Nubla. Also calls are accepted at landline 826-4547.

Those who are interested are required to visit the said office and indicate name and address.

My Observations: Starbucks Vermosa

In South Metro Manila, Daang Hari is one very long road used by thousands of motorists each day. It stretches from a corner of Alabang Zapote Road in Las Pinas which goes through portions of Alabang (Muntinlupa City), goes past Evia Lifestyle Center and the connection with Muntinlupa Cavite Expressway (MCX) and more notably the road leads further into the province of Cavite.

Along Daang Hari within the jurisdiction of Imus City, Cavite, is the world-class Vermosa Sports Hub which is home to a very modern looking swimming pool, track oval and some facilities.

Just outside Vermosa Sports Hub, however, along Daang Hari is a new branch of Starbucks Coffee which I visited.

20190609_071408.jpg
The front of Starbucks Vermosa coffee shop.

As expected, the Vermosa Starbucks branch has a very modern design on its exterior and interior. Its interior is quite spacious with lots of seats and tables that can accommodate groups of friends and family members. The place is good enough for employees or business executives to have group meetings in while having coffee.

20190609_072318.jpg
This is where you choose, line up, pay and pick up your order.
20190609_071813.jpg
Nice interior.

Upon my examination of the place, I noticed some parking slots in the rear of the coffee shop (with the Vermosa Sports Hub visible). Like the Starbucks coffee shop at Evia Lifestyle Center, this coffee shop has a drive-thru.

So if you are coming from Cavite heading to Las Pinas or Muntinlupa and you want coffee to help you complete your long drive along Daang Hari, know that the Vermosa Starbucks branch is operating.

Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) Announces Adjustments Regarding The Use of Community Swimming Pool

Through the June 29, 2019 edition of their official bulletin – Tahanan Flash – the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) announced some adjustments related to the use of the community swimming pool which is just outside their office at the village clubhouse in Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City.

20190702_140829.jpg
The Tahanan Village community swimming pool.

The THA stated that their Board of Directors (now headed by their president Aurora Beatriz L. Sarmiento) decided to implement key changes such as the rate of P250 per guest/per usage for guests (described as friends and relatives who are not residents of the village) when it comes to using the pool. For the residents, the rate it still set at P60 per resident/per usage.

With regards to regulating the use of the pool, the THA will exert its best effort to limit the number of swimmers to twenty (20) people in any given point in time.

Groups composed of ten (10) people must advise the THA office of the use of the pool two days before the scheduled use. This is meant to regulate crowding.

In ending their statement, the THA said: There will also be days we need to close down the pool due to water shortage. We also ask those who have swimming pools to do the same thing during times of water crisis. Please monitor our village boards and Facebook account for announcements.

To contact the THA, call 842-5955 or visit their Facebook page.

Cyberzone
The new logo.

For the newcomers reading this, Cyberzone is the largest chain of IT retail stores in the Philippines. Aside from holding the biggest I.T. fairs, gaming events, and social networking engagements; Cyberzone is known for its notable product mix and quality.

Back to the event, a digital quiz took place as well as fun tech talks. A raffle draw was held and after several attempts of calling out the names of the winner, it was Joie Reyes who was called and she made her way to the stage to claim the Realme 3 smartphone. Being physically present is a requirement to claim the raffle prize.

One of the major partners of the event, Huawei, had its officer named Elton present the company’s achievements and vision for the world of technology. He announced that Huawei’s smartphone shipment surpassed 206 million in 2018 alone and that the company ensured that each unit is designed to give users full functionality, the best digital photography capability and enduring battery life.

20190622_160814
Huawei’s Elton gave an in-depth presentation of the company’s technology strategy.

Huawei was not limited to smartphones. Its business is quite diverse as its non-smartphone product shipments in 2018 exceeded the 100,000,000 mark. The figure includes tablets, laptops, watches and accessories. Huawei also strives to create more value through the innovative “1+8+N” all-scenario intelligent product ecosystem. From smartphones to cars and to home appliances, the company has a strategy to give a wide variety of users the means to enhance their lifestyles through technology.

For the future, Huawei is leading the next phase of the 5G innovation with the Balong 5000 which is the most powerful 5G modem in the world. It contains the world’s first chipset to support both NSA and SA architectures, the world’s fastest peak downlink speed of 4.6 gigabytes per second and uplink speed of 2.5 gigabytes per second, and the world’s first R14 V2X on 5G chipset.

Overall, the Cyberzone Mobile Fest 2019 at SM City BF Parañaque was a tremendously successful event that had fun, excitement and enlightenment brought together at the Atrium with a strong emphasis on technology. Cyberzone meanwhile will remain a very significant commercial chain for anyone around the nation looking for the latest in technology.

Green Guardians, Young Schoolchildren Saving Planet Earth

Green Guardians, Young Schoolchildren Saving Planet Earth

A group shot at the Las Piñas Parañaque Critical Habitat Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).

Since 2009, Mindbuilders Preschool has been engaging its graduating students, the Chopin Seniors, in a social responsibility project that would make a positive impact on the community.  Through the project, the children make use of their multiple intelligence and learn to work together collaboratively to achieve a goal and make a difference.  They function as a business unit would, mobilized into different departments such as sales, marketing, promotions, purchasing, and so on.

This school year, the Chopin Seniors’ project was entitled Green Guardians.  Under the mentorship of their teachers and parents as resource persons, the Kindergarten students planned and organized a fun run to raise funds for their chosen beneficiary, the Las Piñas Parañaque Critical Habitat Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA).

In October, the children went on an eco-tour of the nature reserve.  There, they saw a contrast between the beauty brought about by the trees and birds, and the destruction made by the garbage that made its way to the coastal area.  The Chopin Seniors also learned about waste/resource management, and how they can practice this to help the environment.

As all Chopin Projects go, the Kindergarten students were organized into a business unit, with the children assigned to groups where their strengths could be tapped.  Teacher and parents were also involved to mentor the students in logo development, event preparation, purchasing of materials, packaging, distribution, advertising and promotions.

The fun run.

The Fun Run was held on November 25 at The Village Sports Club.  The funds raised here were used to purchase photography equipment requested by LPPCHEA for documentation of their environmental cleanup activities.  A formal turnover to the beneficiary by the Chopin Seniors was held at the reserve on January 21, 2019.

Another activity in school that was spearheaded by the Chopin Seniors was a plastic collection drive during the first quarter of 2019.  This was done in partnership with Pure Oceans, an organization that brings residual plastics to an upcycling plant which converts these into 100% upcycled plastic products such as school chairs.  Mindbuilders Preschool families were encouraged to send used PET bottles, clear microwavable containers, food/candy wrappers, etc. to school.  These materials were turned over to Pure Oceans in March.

3
The plastic collection drive at the school early this year.

The school foresees Green Guardians to be a long-term project by keeping its partnership with Pure Oceans, and making the collection and turnover of plastic a regular practice to be done on a quarterly basis.  It will continue to encourage families to adhere to lifestyle changes for the betterment of the environment, and for the future of mankind and Mother Earth.

“It is very reassuring to see our children, young as they are, making a proactive stand for the environment.  They are not only calling out the concern but are also giving solutions to help address this pressing matter which is so relevant in our country and in the world today.” Teacher Marah Estuesta, Directress of Mindbuilders says.

Mindbuilders Preschool is a Multiple Intelligence school located at 168 Tropical Avenue BF International Las Piñas City.  It was established in 2002 and is accredited by the Department of Education.  The preschool is also an active member of the Las Pinas Private Schools Association.  To date, Mindbuilders Preschool established itself with not only good quality education but also worked with its students on several social responsibility projects.  The schools prides itself in having strong home and  school collaboration.  The bond built with families is even carried beyond the child’s preschool years – evidence that Mindbuilders Preschool is more than just a learning institution.
