Foreigner convicted for operating POGO-related prostitution den

Recently in Pasay City, a Chinese national was convicted by a Regional Trial Court (RTC) for operating a prostitution operation that was flocked by employees of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), according to a GMA Network news report. The said operation offered Filipino women to the customers.

A Pasay court convicted a Chinese national for running a prostitution den of Filipino women catering to foreign POGO workers.

In a 69-page decision promulgated on November 28, the Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 113 sentenced a Chinese national also known as “Boss Ayang” to two (2) life terms and a fine amounting to P4,000,000.

The court found “Boss Ayang” guilty beyond reasonable doubt for violations of RA 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012.

The cases stemmed from a raid by Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) and the PNP Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) in a condominium complex in Pasay last November 25, 2023.

Fourteen (14) Filipino women including one (1) minor were rescued from a prostitution den catering exclusively to foreigners working in POGOs or Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators.

The court held that in the cases, all of the elements of the crime are present.

“The accused Ayang’s purpose of hiring and maintaining the victims was to exploit them for prostitution or sexual exploitation, because the victims were ordered to engage in sexual activities for payment,” the court said.

The Court found “the testimonies of the witnesses for the prosecution to be candid, straightforward, and credible.”

The victims positively identified “Boss Ayang” as the mastermind of the prostitution operation.

One testified to have serviced “thirty to fifty (30-50) clients” in just one month of working for Ayang.

She added that “Ayang distributed clients to them through their group chat” and “she went to different hotels or condominiums to meet clients.”

Payments were made either in person through Philipine Peso, RMB or Chinese Yuan or through cashless transactions directly to Boss Ayang.

The victims “would remit half of their earnings to accused Ayang” and payment was made through mobile transfers “Ayang would give the portion of the victims in cash.”

The court said the “accused took advantage of their vulnerability of being impoverished, innocent, and having hailed from outside the metro which contributed to the disadvantaged conditions of the victims”.

The court, however, acquitted the two (2) other accused in the case. The court found insufficient evidence to hold the Filipina accused as a principal in the trafficking of the victims.

LGBTQ member arrested in Las Piñas City for child abuse

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, police officers arrested a person identified with the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community over the charge of child abuse, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The law enforcers carried a warrant of arrest issued by a certain branch of the Las Piñas City Family Court.

A member of the LGBTQ community was arrested by the Las Piñas City Police for child abuse on Wednesday, October 16, Las Piñas Police chief PCol. Sandro Tafalla said.

The suspect was identified as “Butchoko,” 42. He was arrested at around 4:45 p.m. in Barangay Talon Uno, Las Piñas City.

Tafalla said the suspect was tagged as Top 6 most wanted person under the station level for the month of October in violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.

Butchokoy was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Judge Mildred Jacinto Marquez Balmaceda of the Las Piñas City Family Court Branch 2 on September 9, 2024, with a P200,000 recommended bail.

Dark Asia with Megan – the YouTube channel that specializes on true crime stories that happened around Asia – released on September 25, 2024 an episode focused on the story of the late Antonio P. Antonio who was killed by his own son Nelson in 2013.

Just yesterday, the said Dark Asia with Megan episode gathered over 100,000 views worldwide as well an estimated 3,500 likes. It should be noted that it took less than 30 days for the Antonio P. Antonio episode to surpass the 100,000 views mark. That being said, I posted below for your convenience the YouTube video. I encourage you all to watch it from start to finish.

For the newcomers reading this, the late Antonio P. Antonio (APA) was one of the most notable residents of BF Homes subdivision which is so large it occupies parts of the cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas and Muntinlupa. Alice Guo and five others charged for falsification, obstruction of justice and more

Former Bamban mayor Alice Guo (AKA Guo Hua Ping) and five others have been formally charged by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for falsification by a notary public, the use of falsified documents, perjury, and obstruction of justice, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday filed additional criminal charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against former Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and five others over the irregularities in her filing of a sworn counter-affidavit in another case.

Named respondents were Guo, lawyer Elmer Galicia, Dante Catapay, Cheryl Medina, Catherine Salazar, and Geraldine Pepito.

“The cases we filed against them are falsification by a notary public, use of falsified documents, perjury, and obstruction of justice,” NBI Director Jaime Santiago said in a press briefing.

The charges arose from a motion to re-open filed by Guo’s lawyers in a separate charge for qualified trafficking against her.

Legislators concluded that Guo could not have signed the motion before the notary as she had already fled the country by that time.

NBI Chief Fraud and Financial Crimes Division and Task Force Alice Guo head Palmer Mallari said the investigation involved original documents from before and after Guo slipped out of the country.

“We collected sample signatures on original documents before the Bamban municipality as prior sample specimen signatures. We also collected sample specimen signatures purportedly signed subsequent to the days of the counter affidavit. This is for purposes of submitting that to our document division,” Mallari said.

“After the examination of our QDD (NBI- Questioned Documents Division), it was proven that the sample signatures appearing on all those documents as compared to the supposed signature appearing on the CA were not written by one and the same person,” he said.

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said they would most likely pursue the administrative complaint before the Supreme Court (SC) against Galicia, the notary public.

“Dapat lang (Absolutely), we should pursue (the complaint),” he said.

Santiago, a retired lower court judge also said the claims made during the legislative inquiries by Guo’s staff that they had prepared signed “last pages” meant to be attached to filings on behalf of the dismissed mayor “is unacceptable.”

“No, that’s irregular. The affidavit should be signed in the presence of the notary public,” he said.

Dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo back in the Philippines, now under custody

Alice Guo, the dismissed mayor of Bamban who got caught by Indonesian authorities, was brought back here in the Philippines during the early hours of Friday escorted by Philippine government officials and she has been placed under the custody of the local authorities, according to a GMA Network news report.

Dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo is back in the Philippines after being deported from Indonesia where she was arrested.

Escorted by top police and local government officials, Guo arrived from Jakarta on a private plane which landed at a private hangar at the NAIA .

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Norman Tansingco confirmed the successful return of Guo to the Philippines.

“Guo arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at approximately 1:30 AM on September 6 aboard a special government flight. Her return comes after a swift operation by Philippine immigration authorities in Jakarta, in coordination with their Indonesian counterparts,” according to the statement issued by bureau.

The BI said it immediately executed the mission order against Guo, Tansingco said, faces charges of undesirability and misrepresentation under Philippine immigration laws.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police chief General Rommel Marbil on Thursday went to Indonesia for the turnover of custody of the former mayor from the Indonesian police.

In an earlier press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said that Guo will undergo a medical check-up at Camp Crame upon arrival. She will be turned over to the Senate on Friday morning for the implementation of the upper chamber’s arrest warrant.

Guo was arrested by Indonesian authorities in Tangerang City, Indonesia at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The former mayor had cut her hair, which National Bureau of Investigation director Jaime Santiago believed was an attempt to conceal her identity.

Guo had asked Abalos for help over what she said were death threats against her.

In a video posted on Abalos’ Facebook of his meeting with Guo in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon, Guo was heard saying, “Sec, patulong. May death threat po kasi ako.”

Abalos entire reply was no longer heard but there was a portion in which he said, “Kaya nga kami kumuha ng private plane…”

BIR files tax evasion charges against dismissed mayor Alice Guo and two others

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Wednesday filed tax evasion charges against dismissed Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and two others before the Department of Justice.

Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. filed the charges against Guo, and Jack L. Uy and Rachelle Carreon of Baofu Land Development, Inc., which arose from Guo’s admission that she transferred her shares in Baofu to Uy.

“Upon investigation, the BIR discovered that no capital gains tax (CGT) and documentary stamp tax (DST) returns were filed and paid in relation to this transfer,” the BIR said in its statement.

The three were charged with “attempt to evade or defeat tax, failure to file CGT and DST returns, and failure to file/ supply certain information.”

Lumagui noted that while the parties to the transfer are Guo and Uy, Carreon, as the corporate secretary of Baofu, would also be charged with the same criminal case for tax evasion due to her “deliberate failure to report” the non-payment and non-filing of CGT and DST returns to the BIR.

“She even verified under oath the General Information Sheet reflecting the transfer even if no taxes were paid and no returns were filed,” he said.

Ombudsman orders dismissal of suspended Bamban mayor Alice Guo from service

The Office of the Ombudsman has officially ordered the dismissal of suspended Bamban mayor Alice Guo from service due to grave misconduct, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article. The Office of the Ombudsman has ordered the dismissal from service of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo for grave misconduct.

In an order dated Aug. 12, the Ombudsman also ordered the forfeiture of Guo’s retirement benefits and perpetually banned her from holding public office.

Guo’s involvement in operations of raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in her area bared a “willful intent on her part to violate the law or disregard established rules,” the anti-graft office said.

“The series of acts are interconnected, leaving no other conclusion than that they were committed by Guo with ulterior motive or self-interest.”

Meanwhile, government lawyers said they may opt to pursue the quo warranto case they had already filed against Guo.

“The quo warranto petition will proceed for two reasons: Mayor Alice Guo may still appeal the OMB (Ombudsman) dismissal order. The quo warranto petition, if successful, will make Guo Hua Ping (a.k.a. Alice Guo) ineligible to run for any elective public position in the future,” Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra said in a message to reporters.

Meanwhile, the Ombudsman also found 12 other Bamban officials guilty of conduct prejudicial to the best interest of service and were ordered suspended for three months.

A senator is expecting that a warrant of arrest will soon be issued against suspended Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo after her human trafficking case was submitted for resolution by the Department of Justice (DOJ) following her non-appearance in the preliminary investigations.

Being submitted for resolution, the case will now be decided by prosecutors on whether to lodge it before the courts on the basis solely of the complainant’s allegations, according to the DOJ.

“Since she did not personally show up nor file her counter affidavit, she will mostly like be liable for human trafficking which is a non-bailable offense,” Senator Sherwin Gatchalian told reporters in a Viber message.

“A warrant of arrest will ensue on this particular case,” he added.

Gatchalian earlier advised Guo to appear and address the various cases against her, including human trafficking, birth certificate cancellation, and disobedience to summons.

The Senate issued an arrest order against Guo last July 11 after failing to attend two hearings related to the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) hub raided in her municipality before the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality.

She also failed to attend the three hearings on the human trafficking cases filed before the DOJ.

#1 Gus Abelgas Forensics features Antonio P. Antonio justice story – Last March, the surviving family of the late Antonio P. Antonio (APA) rejoiced when the Parañaque Regional Trial Court found suspect Nelson Antonio guilty of murdering his father (legal term: parricide) in 2013. It was a quest for justice that got fulfilled after more than a decade and along the way the family endured lots of challenges as they adjusted to life without their father (read my previous blog posts by clicking here and here). Recently, the local TV show Gus Abelgas Forensics produced an episode (note: Tagalog language) focused on the story of the late Antonio P. Antonio with special attention paid to the details of the investigation, the analysis of the evidence and information revealed by family members who were interviewed. Apart from doing reviews or commentaries about movies and shows, he has a series of videos that closely examine the troubled entertainment productions. Posted below are his videos about Apocalypse Now (which was filmed here in the Philippines) and Fitzarraldo (notorious for manually hauling a 320-ton steamship up a steep hill as well as cases of deaths and plane crashes).

#3 Ashleigh Burton’s reaction video of Air Force One – If you are a Harrison Ford fan who ended up being depressed over his work in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, then it is time to look back at the actor’s more exciting works from long ago apart from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies. Recently, YouTuber Ashleigh Burton released her reaction video of the 1997 blockbuster film Air Force One which had Ford play a brave and fighting US President. Her reaction video is entertaining to watch and you can see it below.

#4 Reggie Miller’s memorable play on May 25, 1998 – Way back in 1998 here in the Philippines, I saw live on cable TV Game 4 of the NBA Eastern Conference Finals series between the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers. I was rooting for the Pacers as my all-time favorite NBA legend Larry Bird was the coach and they had a very solid team with Reggie Miller, Rik Smits, Mark Jackson and others. The game is best remembered for Reggie Miller’s stunning 3-point shot which involved pushing Michael Jordan out of the way to get the ball. Not only that, Miller had a sprained left ankle to do it all. Take note that the Pacers was one of very few times to push Jordan and the Bulls into a full seven games in a best-of-seven series. Watch the video below and enjoy.

#5 X-Men: Apocalypse movie reaction videos – As X-Men: Days of Future Past was such a great film to watch, there was hope that follow-up X-Men movies starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence will turn out great and offer moviegoers fine alternatives to the many superhero movies being released by Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Then X-Men: Apocalypse was released in 2016 and I saw it on opening day inside a local IMAX cinema here in the Philippines. I left the cinema feeling entertained but the overall fun factor of the movie paled in comparison with its 2014 predecessor. If you want to see the YouTubers’ opinions of X-Men: Apocalypse, watch the videos below.

#6 Top Hat Gaming Man’s Double Dragon history videos – Top Hat Gaming Man is an engaging YouTuber to follow when it comes to retro gaming. Among his many videos that examined the history of video games, he published videos focused on the Double Dragon game series which used to be wildly popular. If you are a Double Dragon fan or if you are simply interested to discover how was Double Dragon first created, watch the selected videos below.
