Almost 700 residents of Barangay Pilar served by Las Piñas City’s Health and Wellness Caravan

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, around seven hundred residents of Barangay Pilar availed of varied health services when the Health and Wellness Caravan was held in their local community, the City Government announced via social media. Vice Mayor April Aguilar attended the activity.

Another successful Health and Wellness Caravan was conducted by the City Health Office at the Aguilar Sports Complex in Pilar on Thursday, March 14, serving nearly 700 residents. The initiative, part of the city’s continuous efforts to deliver accessible healthcare services to Las Piñeros, was attended by Vice Mayor April Aguilar, who personally oversaw the event.

The caravan provided several free medical services, including general medical consultations, vital signs assessment, dental services, ECG, X-ray, laboratory testing, nutrition counseling, Green Card registration and assistance, mobile birth registration, distribution of free medicines, vaccination for senior citizens, and therapeutic massage sessions.

Vice Mayor April Aguilar expressed her gratitude for the continuous support from the community, emphasizing the city’s commitment to ensuring that accessible and comprehensive healthcare services reach every Las Piñas resident.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the campaign team (locally referred to as the Green Team) led by the incumbent Aguilars had its opening salvo for the local elections and vowed to continue the legacy of the late Mayor Vergel “Nene” Aguilar, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The mentioned legacy is in reference to free education and medical services.

Las Piñas City’s Green Team vowed to continue the legacy of former Mayor Nene Aguilar of giving free education and medical services to residents during a kick off campaign rally held at the Aguilar Sports Complex in Barangay Pilar, Las Pin̈as City on Friday, March 28.

The Green Team was led by Vice Mayor April Aguilar who will be running for city mayor, current city Mayor Imelda Aguilar who will be running for vice mayor, and former Councilor Mark Antony Santos for congressman.

Running for councilors for District I are Alelee Aguilar, Atty. Zardi Abellera, Brian Bayog, Robert Cristobal , Marlon Rosales and Macmac Santos. For  District II, those running for councilors are Engr. Henry Medina, Lester Aranda, Luigi Casimiro, Tito Martinez, Macky Saito, and  Euan Toralballa.

Aguilar said the city government had been implementing the 5K program- Kalusugan, Kaalaman, Kaayusan, Kabuhayan, and  Kinabukasan  for the benefit of city residents.

She said the 5K program offers free services in lying-in clinics, free burial, hospitalization through a green card program worth P30,000, and yearly check-up at Hi-Precision.

The vice mayor said two laboratory testing centers were built during the administration of her mother to ensure that residents will receive free laboratory tests.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, more than one thousand two hundred senior citizens of Barangay Almanza Uno, Barangay Talon Tres and Barangay Pilar Village received their pension from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the City Government announced via social media.

The City of Las Piñas, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), held a social pension pay-out on Wednesday, November 20, at the Almanza Uno Covered Court. The event catered to 1,240 senior citizens from Barangays Talon Tres, Almanza Uno, and Pilar, providing vital financial aid to support their daily needs.

Beneficiaries from Almanza Uno totaled 433, while 424 came from Talon Tres and 383 from Pilar. Each recipient received ₱6,000, representing their social pension for the second half of the year, July to December. The funds were allocated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as part of the national government’s efforts to assist indigent senior citizens.

City representatives ensured the smooth delivery of financial assistance, engaging with the beneficiaries to address any concerns and streamline the process. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of senior citizens and providing meaningful support to improve their quality of life.

Through its collaboration with the DSWD, the city government continues to implement programs focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable groups.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, New Life Community Care Foundation International, Inc. (NLCOM) – the compassion arm of New Life Philippines located inside Alabang Hills Village in Muntinlupa City – sent a team to help fire victims in Barangay Pilar Village recover by providing them more assistance and this includes the conducting of Psychological First Aid.

As the 125 families affected by the second-alarm fire in Maligaya Compound, Brgy. Pilar, Las Piñas continue to tread their paths to recovery, NLCOM carried on with extending help and ministering to them in the past five weeks.

We were able to promote healthy recuperation in the children by conducting Psychological First Aid, aside from the weekly feeding of hot meals for the families and fun kiddie activities. It was such a sight of grace to see how the kids would excitedly gather as soon as they see the team and would ask for more activities, not wanting it to end. To see the grown-ups grinning while watching the children enjoy and to hear many of them express their appreciation for the time spent with them was truly heartening.

We responded with the desire to alleviate the loss and despair that they are feeling. It may only have been momentary, but the compassion bestowed surely etched a long-lasting mark in their hearts.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, police officers arrested a wanted driver who has been accused for rape and acts of lasciviousness, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The suspect also happens to be one of the most wanted persons in the city.

A driver wanted for rape and acts of lasciviousness cases was arrested by members of the Las Piñas Police Warrant and Subpoena Section (WSS) on Wednesday, Jan. 4.

Col. Jaime Santos, city police chief, said the suspect, identified as Edmar Mecares, 34, was listed as one of the most wanted persons in Las Piñas.

Santos said the suspect was nabbed at around 10:30 a.m. on Emeral Road in Barangay Pilar, Las Piñas on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Elizabeth Yu-Guray of Las Piñas Regional Trial Court Branch 202.

The court released the arrest order against Mercares on Dec. 2, 2022 for the crime of rape and acts of lasciviousness with a recommended bail of P540,000.

676-meter Zapote River Drive stretch inaugurated in Las Piñas City

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the 676-meter stretch of the Zapote River Drive was formally inaugurated by Senator Cynthia Villar, Senator Mark Villar and House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar as shown through the Villar SIPAG Facebook page.

Other officials who attended the inauguration were City Councilor Danny Hernandez, City Councilor Carlo Aguilar, City Councilor Ruben Ramos, Barangay Pilar Kagawad Ping Nerbes, and Barangay Talon Uno Kagawad George Zuniga to name some.

The expanded road located along Pasong Baka connects to Barangay Talon Uno and Barangay Talon Singko within the city. It is expected to ease travel from Marcos Alvarez Avenue to Barangay Pilar. Take note, however, that in one of the pictures showing street signs leading to the 676-meter stretch of Zapote River Drive, there is a notable public instruction that motorcycles, bicycles and tricycles are not allowed.
