Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar warmly welcomed Julian Jean Quijano Plata, a young figure skater from Las Piñas City National Science High School, during her courtesy visit at the City Hall on Tuesday, September 24. The student recently brought pride to the city by winning multiple gold and silver medals at the Skate Asia 2024 competition held in Taipei, Taiwan, from August 3-11, 2024. Her impressive performance in categories such as Freestyle 4, Artistic FS4, and Solo Compulsories earned recognition for both her school and the city.

Yesterday at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in the City of Las Piñas, Vice Mayor April Aguilar filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) to run for the office of Mayor in the May 2025 local elections. Her mother – Mayor Imelda Aguilar – filed her COC to run for Vice Mayor. City Councilor Mark Santos formalized his candidacy for the city’s Congressional seat the day before.

The Aguilars and Santos lead the election group called Team Aguilar which also announced its slate of candidates for the City Council covering the two local districts. The City Council candidates names are as follows:

District One – Alelee Aguilar, Zardi Abellera, Brian Bayog, Robert Cristobal, Marlon Rosales and Mac Mac Santos.

District Two – Henry Medina, Luigi Casimero, Tito Martinez, Lester Aranda, Macky Saito and Euan Toralballa.

For the newcomers reading this, Mayor Imelda Aguilar is serving her third consecutive term while Vice Mayor April Aguilar is serving her second term. The maximum number of consecutive terms of public service is three terms.

Las Piñas City’s mobile kitchen provides meals to typhoon victims in four evacuation centers

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the City Government’s mobile kitchen was sent to four different evacuation centers and provided meals to the victims of Typhoon Enteng, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The “Kusina ng Las Piñas” or mobile kitchen visited the four evacuation centers in the city housing victims of Tropical Storm Enteng to provide them with nutritious food.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar ordered the deployment of the “Kusina ng Las Piñas” to provide hot meals to evacuees at the Verdant court, Carmencita covered court, Pulanglupa 2 Evacuation Center, and at the Pagtakhan covered court.

Aguilar said the city government recorded a total of 761 individuals who sought temporary shelter at evacuation sites at the peak of Enteng.

She said the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reported that 150 individuals or 43 families in Barangay Talon Tres were evacuated to the Carmencita Covered Court, 131 individuals or 29 families from Talon Kuatro were staying at the Pagtakhan covered court, 435 individuals or 110 families from Pamplona Tres were staying at the Verdant Covered Court, and 45 individuals or 17 families from Manuyo Dos.

The mayor said Vice-Mayor April Aguilar immediately responded to personally monitor the evacuees to ensure their safety and medical needs.

A breast cancer survivor was emotional in narrating how she survived the disease with the help of green card program, a hospitalization support of the Las Piñas city government that subsidizes P30,000 of the total bill of a confined patient.

Clara Cruz, a former employee at the City Hall, said she was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 1919 and was operated on at the San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Cruz said she underwent chemotherapy and was very thankful to Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice-Mayor April Aguilar because she was able to use her green card twice with their approval.

Aguilar said the green card program is an important part of the city’s health subsidy program designed to deliver essential medical benefits to residents.

The City Health Office, led by OIC Dr. Juliana Gonzalez, successfully conducted the “Buntis Congress” on Thursday, July 11, at the Almanza Uno Covered Court. The event saw the participation of more than 200 pregnant women who were eager to learn about various health and wellness topics critical for their journey to motherhood.

The event featured several educational lectures, including sessions on safe motherhood, responsible parenthood and family planning, health for mother and child through good diet and supplementation, and maintaining oral health during pregnancy and for the child.
