Recently in the City of Las Piñas, eight hundred locals availed of free food and water when the local feeding program occurred in Barangay Daniel Fajardo and no less than Mayor April Aguilar was present, the City Government announced via social media.

Through the initiative of Mayor April Aguilar, Vice Mayor Mel Aguilar, and the City Council, an auxiliary feeding program was held in Madrigal Covered Court, Barangay Daniel Fajardo to support the health and nutrition of children and families in the community.

A total of 800 beneficiaries received nutritious pork steak rice topping and bottled water that were carefully prepared and distributed with the help of Barangay Nutrition Scholars. The program was spearheaded by the Las Piñas City Nutrition Office under the leadership of OIC and City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Julio P. Javier II.

Barangay Captain Dolphy Cristobal, together with Kagawads Melvin Cristobal, Irish Alinigue, Bernard Abersosa, Archie Casimiro, Bhong Ello, and Rodelyn Gonzales, joined the activity to show their support.

The City Government of Las Piñas, led by Vice Mayor April Aguilar, continued its relief operations on Tuesday morning, June 3, for families affected by the fire that struck the Samatierra Compound in Almanza Uno.

Vice Mayor Aguilar personally returned to the evacuation center at the covered court of Almanza Uno to oversee the distribution of essential items to the 260 displaced individuals. Sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and food packs were provided to ensure the basic needs of evacuees are met while they remain in temporary shelters.

The City Social Welfare and Development Office, in coordination with the barangay and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, facilitated the orderly delivery of assistance. Modular tents were also set up to provide each family with privacy and comfort during their stay at the evacuation center.

The Las Piñas City Nutrition Office continued its citywide feeding efforts through the Programang Pang-Nutrisyon para sa Las Piñeros, holding another feeding activity on Wednesday, May 28 at the St. Mary Homes Covered Court in Almanza Uno. The initiative served nearly 700 children with pork picadillo rice toppings and bottled water.

The event aimed to provide accessible and healthy meals to young Las Piñeros, particularly during the school break, to help sustain their nutritional needs. Volunteers and staff from the City Nutrition Office ensured the orderly distribution of food, assisted by community leaders and local personnel.

Mayor-elect April Aguilar personally took part in the event, helping serve meals and engaging with the children and their families. Her presence reflected her administration’s continued support for grassroots nutrition initiatives and direct community outreach.

The Las Piñas City Nutrition Office held a community-based feeding program at the CAA Narra Covered Court in BF International / CAA on Wednesday, May 21, benefiting around 800 children from the area.

Children lined up for warm servings of arroz caldo with egg, which were personally distributed by city staff and volunteers. This program is part of the city’s continuing efforts to combat child malnutrition by ensuring access to nutritious meals in underserved communities.

Mayor-elect April Aguilar was also present during the event to assist in the distribution and engage with the children. Her participation highlights the administration’s support for nutrition and welfare initiatives targeting vulnerable sectors.

Las Piñas City Government recognized for nutrition program implementation

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, it was revealed that the City Government gained recognition for sheer improvements with its implementation of its nutrition program, according to a Manila Bulltin news report.

The Las Piñas city government was awarded by the National Nutrition Council-National Capital Region (NNS-NCR) as the “Most Improved LGU Performance” in tems of nutrition program management.

Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar thanked the NNS-NCR for the recognition as she vowed that the City Nutrition Committee (CNC) will continue to work hard on the implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action (PPAN) for Nutrition to better serve the city residents.

Aguilar said the CNC, through their perseverance and collective efforts, gained ground in their bid to improve the planning, implementation and management of their local PPAN.

She added the CNC is conducting regular meeting to discuss the status of nutrition program implementation and agree on ways to improve the way they do things to reach their targets.

The mayor noted that the local nutrition committees at the city and barangay levels implemented strengthened and revitalized innovative strategies in conducting the PPAN nutrition programs.

One of the innovations of the city government born during the pandemic is the Community Auxiliary Feeding Program using the Kusina ng Las Pinas Mobile Food Truck which Aguilar spearheaded together with Vice Mayor April Aguilar.

The auxiliary feeding program is in collaboration with the City Nutrition Office, which aims to provide hot meals to children, pregnant and lactating women, and other nutritionally vulnerable population groups to alleviate hunger.

The mobile food truck visits barangays where around 600 individuals, preferably children, are given hot meals and bottled water being managed by the Nutritionist-Dietitians and Barangay Nutrition Scholars to ensure that the meals served are nutritious and safe.

Aguilar also added that CNO also partnered with the City Tourism/ Media Office and City Environment Natural Resources Office (CENRO) for the food tourism campaign dubbed as “Flavors of Las Pinas” to promote culinary food tourism.

Mindbuilders Preschool Chopin Seniors 2020 Project: Making the world a better place one small step at a time!

Recently, Mindbuilders Preschool’s Kinder Class (Chopin Seniors 2020) organized a new project titled “Let’s Go and Grow!” which, unsurprisingly, turned out successful.

It all started in the first quarter when the children learned about food groups and the importance of eating nutritious food. They also learned that not everyone can afford it and some vegetables were sprayed with chemicals.

As such, the younglings thought of organizing a feeding program and raised funds by selling personally designed grocery bags. Along the way they also learned about urban farming (Aquaponics, Vegepod, Down to Earth Tower Garden) so people can plant their own vegetables and have regular access to organic vegetables.

On February 1, 2020, they had their feeding program for the children of San Roque De Alabang Parish Zone 9 and turned over three Down to Earth tower gardens to the community.

The Mindbuilders community were thanked for their support. Their team was led by the Kindergarten teachers Teacher Merv Lugtu, Teacher Issa Menchate and Teacher Lyn Salutan
