Almost 200 local and foreign workers rescued in Pampanga POGO raid

Recently in the province of Pampanga, elements of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), the Special Action Force (SAF) and the local police raided a Philippine Overseas Gaming Operator (POGO) resulting in the rescue of almost two hundred local and foreign workers, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

Authorities rescued 187 foreign and Filipino workers in a raid at a Philippine Overseas Gaming Operator (POGO) center in Pampanga province on Tuesday night.

In a report on Wednesday, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) said its members together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, Special Action Force and the local police carried out a search warrant operation against the Lucky South 99 compound along Friendship Highway in Angeles City.

The Malolos City Regional Trial Court Branch 14 issued the search warrant against the POGO over reports of human trafficking, torture and scam activities taking place within the establishment.

“Yung reports na nakuha sa atin, initial report for rescue was may mga tinotorture dito. Pinapalo ng mga baseball bat at pinagtatadiyakan dito. Meron tayong isang video na diumano babae na pinagsasayaw dito at pinagpapasahan ng mga bosses (The reports that we received, the initial report for rescue there are persons who are being tortured here. They are struck with a baseball bat and are being kicked. We also have a video allegedly showing a woman dancing and being abused by the bosses),” PAOCC spokesperson Winston John Casio said in a television interview.

Some 158 foreigners, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysians, Myanmar and Korean workers were rescued, together with 29 Filipinos.

Two teenagers arrested in Las Piñas City for robbing pedestrian

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, two teenagers were apprehended by the local police for robbing a pedestrian, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. One other suspect, however, remains at large and is now the subject of a manhunt.

Two teenagers were arrested by police Thursday morning, June 6, three hours after they robbed a pedestrian in Las Piñas City.

Las Piñas City police chief Col. Sandro Tafalla reported the arrest of the suspects identified as alias Gielyn and alias Nico, both 16 years old.

Tafalla said the third suspect identified as alias Rusty is now the subject of a police manhunt.

The victim, alias Nikkos, 19, sought police assistance from Las Pinas Police Zapote Substation after he was held up by the three suspects while walking near a gasoline station along C5 Extension in Barangay Manuyo Dos, Las Piñas City at around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6.

The victim claimed that he was confronted by the three suspects riding a motorcycle. One of them, who was armed with a pellet gun, forcibly took his personal belongings, cellular phone worth P21,800, and wallet containing P50 cash.

The police said the suspects were arrested during a follow-up operation conducted at around 5:30 a.m. at C5 Extnesion, Barangay Pulanglupa Uno, Las Piñas City.

Recovered from the arrested suspects were one pellet gun, one 13-inch kitchen knife, one black Yamaha Mio 125 motorcycle, and one OPPO cellular phone.

37 Chinese nationals arrested in Parañaque City over illegal retail

Recently in the city of Parañaque, immigration agents arrested almost forty Chinese nationals over alleged involvement in illegal retail, according to a GMA Network news report.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday announced that it has arrested 37 Chinese nationals allegedly involved in illegal retail in Paranaque.

The BI said that the seven females and 30 males from Multinational Village were found to be illegally involved in food retail, groceries, and restaurants. They were arrested on Tuesday, June 4, 2024.

“We received credible information about foreign nationals engaging in illegal retail activities, and our team acted swiftly to address these violations,” Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement.

The Chinese nationals are detained at the BI’s facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa pending the resolution of their deportation cases.

Chinese nationals arrested by immigration authorities in province

Recently in the province of Batangas, elements of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested seven China nationals who were illegally working in a quarry and one of them was found to have been petitioned by a fake company, according to a Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article.

Immigration authorities arrested seven Chinese nationals found to be illegally working in a quarry in Batangas province on Wednesday.

In a news release Thursday, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said the operation was initially aimed at apprehending a certain Wang Zhenglai, 34, who has a working visa but was found to have been petitioned by a fake company.

However, officers from the BI’s Regional Intelligence Operations Unit and the Taysan Municipal Police Station also apprehended six other Chinese men found to be illegally working in the same area.

They were identified as Wang Shou Min, 67; Gao Zhengyao, 47; Wang Yongshang, 31; Song Ke Wei, 33; Cai Wenbi, 33; and Huang Hai Min, 39.

Out of the six other foreigners, five were found to have a 9(g) working visa but were petitioned by companies located in Quezon City while one was found to be working with a tourist visa.

Further investigation also showed that Wang Shou Min was the mining company’s “big boss” and the father of Zhenglai.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Norman Tansingco reiterated that working visas are both company-specific and station-specific.

“Foreign nationals who possess a working visa but found to be petitioned by fake companies or caught to be working in other locations may face deportation cases,” the BI chief added.

Man who pretended to be a police officer arrested in Las Piñas City

A man who pretended to be a police officer and threatened a jail officer was arrested early Thursday morning in Las Piñas, May 30.

Las Piñas police chief Col. Sandro Tafalla reported to the Southern Police District (SPD) the arrest of alias Jerome, 45, at around 1:30 a.m. along P. Diego Cera Avenue, Barangay E. Aldana, Las Piñas

Report showed that the suspect blocked the path of a jail officer and identified himself as a police officer.

The victim reportedly demanded for the identification card of the suspect and when he failed to show any, tried to flee on board his motorcycle.

Tafalla said the victim was able to arrest the suspect and call for police assistance. Members of the Zapote police substation immediately responded.

He said members of the Zapote police substation found in the possession of the suspect one .45 caliber pistol and two magazines with 15 live (ammunition).

Ombudsman suspends controversial Bamban mayor Alice Guo

Remember the raid of a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban, Tarlac? Since that happened, the incumbent Bamban mayor Alice Guo became the subject of the senate investigation as there were documents found that linked her with the raided POGO. Now a controversial figure, Guo officially suspended by the Office of the Ombudsman for up to six months, according to a GMA Network news report. Two other local government officials were suspended as well.

The Office of the Ombudsman has suspended Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and two other local government officials for up to six months.

This development came after the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) filed graft complaints against Guo over her reported involvement with a raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in her locality.

According to the DILG, the complaints were filed with the Office of the Ombudsman on May 24 and stemmed from the issuance of a permit to Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc. despite the company failing to complete the requirements and having an expired license from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR).

“Given [the] respondents’ power and authority, there is a strong probability that they may influence witnesses or tamper with any evidence material to the case,” the Ombudsman said in a nine-page order.

Other than Guo, others ordered suspended were Business Permit and Licensing Officer Edwin Ocampo and Municipal Legal Officer Adenn Sigua.

On March 13, authorities raided a 10-hectare area operated by Zun Yuan Technology Inc. and found several devices said to be linked to POGO operations. Over 600 Filipinos and foreigners were rescued during the raid.

The complex was previously raided in 2023 when it was operated by Hongsheng Technology Inc., which is now being linked to Guo as she applied for the letter of no objection for the complex’s license to operate.

“The foregoing considered, this Office finds sufficient grounds to preventively suspend Alice Guo, Edwin Ocampo and Adenn Sigua considering: that, there is strong evidence showing their guilt; that the charges against them involves grave misconduct, conduct prejudicial to the best Interest of the service, and gross neglect of duty which may warrant their removal from the service,” the Ombudsman said.

“Their continued stay in office may prejudice the investigation of the case filed against them,” the Ombudsman added.

Guo, whose nationality as a Filipino is being questioned by lawmakers, was also found to be the incorporator of Baofu Land Development Inc., which owns the land where the complex — home to over 36 buildings, a swimming pool, and luxury cars — is located.

Guo has denied links to the POGO operation.

Parañaque City police arrested the Southern Police District’s (SPD’s) top most wanted person for the crime of murder last May 17.

The SPD said the suspect, alias Love Singh, 24, listed in the police gallery as top most wanted person for the month of May was nabbed at around 9:30 p.m. in Barangay Sun Valley, Parañaque City.

Singh was arrested by virtue of a warrant issued by Judge Ma. Christina De Pio Lim of Parañaque City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 296 on March 20, 2024, with no bail recommended.

Controversial Bamban POGO linked with scam hub in Parañaque City?

Local authorities are investigating if the scam hub in Parañaque City is connected with the controversial raided Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban, Tarlac, according to a GMA Network news report. Authorities are looking into the possibility that the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in Bamban, Tarlac is connected to a recent human trafficking and online scamming bust in a village in Parañaque City.

According to a “24 Oras” report by Mav Gonzales on Wednesday, the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) believes the 10 Chinese and the Filipino bodyguard arrested in the police operations may have escaped from the recently raided Bamban POGO hub.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, who had called for a probe into the incident following complaints filed by the residents of the village, agreed with Pagcor.

“Itong mga sindikato umiikot lang sila (These syndicates just switch around),” he said.

The raid was launched on May 2 following complaints from homeowners, who said that the structures violated their 3-story regulations. They also said this was not the first raid connected to POGO inside their village.

“When we saw Bamban, the structures were so similar…the process of applying for stickers, IDs, and also constructions. Some are using already local identification, passports, birth certificates, driver’s license, postal ID [and] all these things. They can’t even speak Tagalog,” said a homeowner.

Suspect arrested in Las Piñas City for allegedly killing three people

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, police officers arrested a man whom they suspect to be responsible for the killing of three people (including the suspect’s live-in partner) whose bodies were discovered in a residence, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The suspect in killing of an employee and two students in Las Piñas were arrested during a follow-up operation conducted by the police on Saturday, May 18.

Las Piñas police Chief, Col. Sandro Tafalla, said the suspect identified as Vicente Karagy, 36, mechanic and was arrested at around 10:15 p.m. along Aurora Drive Extension, Vergon Ville, Pulanglupa Dos, Las Piñas.

Tafalla said the victims were identified as Mary Jean Avellna, 27, live-in partner of the suspect, Natalie Jane Cabintot, 19, and Oliver Bula, 11, both students.

The lifeless bodies of the victims were discovered after Princess Kanagy reported to the barangay, a foul odor originating from the room of the victims located at Charles St., Saint Joseph Subdivision, Barangay Pulanglupa Dos, Las Piñas.

Authorities immediately responded to the scene and discovered the bodies on the floor and the place in total disarray.

According to the family of the victims, they were last seen alive on May 15.

Police suspect jealousy as the motive of the killing as Mary Jean was allegedly having an affair according to Karagy.

Lady who scammed senior citizens at ATMs arrested

Recently in Batangas, police officers arrested a lady for allegedly stealing money from senior citizens at automated teller machines (ATMs), according to a GMA Network news report. As it turned out, the arrested suspect scammed victims in multiple locations and she was previously arrested for the same crime. The suspect’s tactics include the pretentious assistance of senior citizens at ATMs and using glue on keypads of the machines.

A woman dubbed the “Glue Lady” was arrested for allegedly stealing money from senior citizens withdrawing from ATM Machines.

According to a 24 Oras report by John Consulta on Friday, the woman was arrested in an operation in Lipa, Batangas.

“Ang modus niya ay kunwari aalalayan niya ang mga matatanda para makapagwithdraw. Yun pala, gagamit siya ng glue at pag umalis na yung biktima, siya na ang magwiwithdraw ng pera,” said PNP PRO4A Regional Director Police Brigadier General Paul Kenneth Lucas.

(Her ploy is that she pretends to assist senior citizens in withdrawing. All along, she uses glue and withdraws money when the victim leaves.)

Based on police reports, the suspect puts glue on the ATM keypad so that it appears broken.

When the suspect persuades the victim to ask for help from the guards, she removes the glue and withdraws from the account.

The suspect was able to scam victims in Rizal, Batangas, and other areas outside of CALABARZON. She had previous arrests for the same crime five years ago.

“Ngayon ay naisilbi na ang 9 na warrant of arrests, may paparating na 9 pa, ang isa doon ay non bailable. Importanteng nahuli na natin siya para di na siya makaperwisyo,” added Lucas.

(We have now served nine warrants of arrests, and nine more are coming with one non-bailable case. It’s a good thing that we have apprehended her so that she can’t trouble anyone else)
