Recently in the City of Las Piñas, over five hundred residents of Barangay Talon Tres got served with varied health services when the Health and Wellness Caravan was held in their local community, the City Government announced via social media. Vice Mayor April Aguilar attended the activity.

The Las Piñas City Health Office continued its commitment to accessible healthcare through another leg of the Health and Wellness Caravan held on Thursday, March 20, at the DFCAM-CLP Covered Court in Talon Tres. The event catered to over 500 residents, offering them a wide range of medical and wellness services free of charge.

Beneficiaries availed of medical consultations, blood pressure monitoring, ECG, cholesterol and blood sugar testing, dental care, mobile birth registration, and assistance with PhilHealth registration and Green Card applications. Nutritional counseling, massages, and free medicines were also made available on site to ensure holistic support for participants.

Vice Mayor April Aguilar led the activity, together with City Councilors Mark Anthony Santos and Henry Medina, who expressed their continued support for the city’s health initiatives. They also spent time with attendees to highlight the importance of maintaining personal well-being through regular check-ups and early medical attention.

City Health Officer Dr. Juliana Gonzalez stressed the ongoing significance of the caravan, noting how it provides direct access to essential healthcare services in barangays.

The City of Las Piñas organized an auxiliary feeding program on Wednesday, March 5, at the Talampas Compound and Paramount Village in Talon Tres, benefiting 850 children. This initiative aimed to provide nutritious meals to residents in need as part of the city’s continuous public service efforts.

During the event, beneficiaries received Pork Picadillo rice toppings along with bottled water, prepared under the supervision of nutritionist-dietitians and Barangay Nutrition Scholars. The feeding program is part of the Kusina ng Las Piñas initiative, which ensures accessible and well-balanced meals for communities across the city.

Vice Mayor April Aguilar personally led the activity, engaging with the beneficiaries and emphasizing the city’s commitment to health and nutrition programs. The Las Piñas City Nutrition Office, headed by OIC City Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Julio P. Javier II, facilitated the event in collaboration with barangay nutrition officers and workers.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, more than one thousand two hundred senior citizens of Barangay Almanza Uno, Barangay Talon Tres and Barangay Pilar Village received their pension from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the City Government announced via social media.

The City of Las Piñas, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), held a social pension pay-out on Wednesday, November 20, at the Almanza Uno Covered Court. The event catered to 1,240 senior citizens from Barangays Talon Tres, Almanza Uno, and Pilar, providing vital financial aid to support their daily needs.

Beneficiaries from Almanza Uno totaled 433, while 424 came from Talon Tres and 383 from Pilar. Each recipient received ₱6,000, representing their social pension for the second half of the year, July to December. The funds were allocated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as part of the national government’s efforts to assist indigent senior citizens.

City representatives ensured the smooth delivery of financial assistance, engaging with the beneficiaries to address any concerns and streamline the process. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to recognizing the contributions of senior citizens and providing meaningful support to improve their quality of life.

Through its collaboration with the DSWD, the city government continues to implement programs focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable groups.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, a man was apprehended by local police officers for violation of acts of lasciviousness, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The suspect also turned out to be one of the most wanted persons in the city.

A man placed by the police as top 3 most wanted person was arrested by Las Piñas City Police Warrant and Subpoena Section (WSS) for violation of acts of lasciviousness on November 2.

Col. Sandro Tafalla, Las Piñas City police chief, said the suspect identified as alias “Jear,” 36, was arrested at around 1:30 p.m. in Barangay Talon Tres, Las Piñas City.

Tafalla said the suspect was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Judge Mildred Jacinto Marquez of Las Piñas City Family Court Branch 2 under Criminal Case Nos. 24-0929, 24-0930, and 24-0031 for acts of lasciviousness with a recommended bail of P540,000.

Five individuals arrested for the illegal towing of a vehicle in Las Piñas City

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, police officers arrested five individuals (described as employees of a certain company) for illegally towing a vehicle, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The police responded to the complaint of a resident who told them that the suspects arrived at his residence and towed his vehicle.

Five employees of a credit management company and a towing service were arrested by members of the Las Piñas police for illegally towing a vehicle on Monday, September 30.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said the Las Piñas police, headed by Col. Sandro Tafalla reported the arrest of the suspects identified as alias Floyd, 26, alias Napoleon, 23, alias Jefferson, 27, all collection agent, alias Jeric, 27, helper; and alias Jaime, 55, driver.

Tafalla said the victim, identified as alias Angelo, 42, called for police assistance and claimed the suspects arrived at his residence in Barangay Talon Tres at around 8:22 p.m. He said the suspects illegally towed his vehicle, a Suzuki Alto.

The city police chief said police operatives who responded to the call demanded legal documents for the conduct of towing operation. However, the suspects failed to present any documents which led to their arrest.

The suspects were detained at the police custodial facility after their arrest and were charged for violation of RA 10883 or the New Anti Carnapping Act of 2016.

City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar led the inauguration and blessing of a new four-storey building at the Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Piñas – Main Campus in Barangay Talon Tres on Thursday.

The ceremony saw attendance from local government officials, college administrators, and faculty members. The new building addresses the increasing need for additional facilities due to the growing number of students enrolled at the college.

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the 16th edition of the Waterlily Festival took place which continues to emphasize to local residents the commitment of taking care of the environment, according to a press release published through Senate.gov.ph. The said festival had a slew of activities and competitions that symbolically emphasized environmental care.

This year’s celebration of the Las Piñas Waterlily Festival reinforced the commitment of Las Piñas residents to value and protect the environment.

Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, who started the festival in 2005, said the yearly event is not only a celebration or a venue for the city’s most talented performers but also a recognition of the importance of environmental protection.

“Today, the waterlily is no longer a menace or a pest but a symbol of ingenuity, resilience, and community cooperation. It stands as a testament to our collective commitment to preserve our environment,” Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, said.

Villar lauded the shared efforts of Las Piñeros in the rehabilitation of the Las Piñas and Zapote River through the Sagip Ilog Program, an initiative she started when she was Las Piñas Representative. Water hyacinths or what is commonly known as water lilies were considered as aquatic pests clogging the Las Piñas and Zapote River, which caused massive flooding in the city.

One of the most awaited activities of the festival is the Ms. Waterlily Pageant 2023. It is participated in by female candidates fielded by each of the 20 barangays in Las Piñas City. The candidates will be judged according to beauty, intelligence, and the over-all creativity of their respective gowns made of waterlilies.

Candidates are required to create their attire using 100% waterlily. Prizes at stake include Php 30,000 cash, flowers, trophy and crown for the Ms. Las Piñas Waterlily 2023, Php 20,000 cash, trophy and flowers for the First Runner-up, and Php 10,000 cash, trophy and flowers for the Second Runner-up.

This year’s winners are: Francine Anne T. De Castro of Talon Tres, Ms Waterlily 2023; Christine Maico Bautista of Brgy. Talon 5; 1st Runner-up Loiuse Zapanta of Brgy.Pamplona Tres, 2nd Runner-up; Princess Romana De Guzman of Brgy.Almanza Dos as Ms. Photogenic and Ayessa Emille Estrellado of Brgy.Pulang-Lupa Uno as Ms Congeniality. Likewise, designer Nash Leeho of Talon Singko won the best designer award

Also, part of the festivities is the Sayaw Kabataan (SK) Para Sa Kalikasan” Dance Video Contest. This activity requires each barangay to field 10 to 15 youth dancers, who will be dancing to an upbeat song that they have to demonstrate in a 3 to 5-minute dance presentation. The incorporation of waterlilies as a prop, costume, or background, is a requirement for this contest.

Winners of the SK Para sa Kalikasan competition was judged based on their creativity, content, and messaging; choreography, presentation, and originality; and video presentation. The following prizes are up for grabs: Champion Php 30,000 and trophy, First Runner-up: Php 20,000 and trophy, Second Runner-up: Php 10,000 and trophy.

This year’s SK para sa Kalikasan this year are; Remake Family of Brgy. BF International-CAA, Grand Champion; Talon Youth for Progress Organization Dance Company of Brgy.Talon Uno, First Runner-up; Fusion Flames of Brgy.Talon Singko, second runner-up and People’s Choice; and Ry Ultra of Brgy Ilaya, Best in Costume.
