Yesterday the City Government of Las Piñas joined the NCR 8+ Virtual Commitment Ceremony and Symbolic Vaccination of A4 and it was Vice Mayor April Aguilar-Nery who participated officially online.

The Las Pinas City Government, led by Vice Mayor April Aguilar, joined today in the NCR 8+ Virtual Commitment Ceremony and Symbolic Vaccination of A4. Vice Mayor April and other Metro Manila Mayors swore in and attended via Zoom.

Also present at the scene were DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez, DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Secretary Carlito Galvez, Secretary Vince Dizon where they all gave messages. The Chair of Senate Committee on Health and Demography Sen. also delivered a special message. Bong Go as well as DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III and the last is the message of Dear President Rodrigo R. Duterte for the people encouraging to get vaccinated and be safe.

Currently, the City Government is continuously conducting the master listing of A4 so that when the National Government issues guidelines, we will immediately vaccinate in the said category.

For clarification, A4 is the category pertaining to frontline personnel in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel according to the Department of Health (DOH). Previously, COVID-19 vaccination programs served patients categorized A1 (workers in frontline health services), A2 (all senior citizens) and A3 (persons with comorbidities).

More on the City of Las Piñas, it should be noted that the City Government, the barangays and other strategic partners have been working hard to have their constituents vaccinated for COVID-19 and help the unvaccinated citizens to come forward by registering for the free vaccines.

In recent times, the City Government launched a third way of helping people get registered, that over 80,000 residents have gotten vaccinated (first and second doses altogether), and those who got vaccinated can qualify to win prizes in a special raffle draw under the incentive program of Las Piñas City Representative Camille Villar. The City Government already announced that additional vaccination sites will be established.

More on the vaccination of patients under A4 category, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez stated that this development will boost the Philippines inoculation program as well as its economic recovery.

Muntinlupa City extends deadline for redemption of auctioned properties to June 30, 2021

Individuals with properties acquired by the City Government of Muntinlupa under “Public Auction Sale” have a chance to buy back their properties but only until the end of the month.

Under City Ordinance 2021-206, the redemption period for properties acquired by the City Government of Muntinlupa for want of bidders for auction years 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 is extended until June 30, 2021.

This extension is an amendment to a former ordinance approved by the Muntinlupa City Council setting the deadline for the redemption of properties on December 31, 2020.

The City Government has approved the extension of deadline since most of the auctioned and acquired properties were small in area and a government project is not practicable to be ventured into such properties.

Further, funds collected from the auctioned properties will be used for the local COVID-19 response. In an initial report, approximately P55 million may be collected from the auctioned properties when delinquent property owners are given further extension to redeem.

The City Treasurer’s Office – Muntinlupa released an announcement in social media and posted posters and tarpaulins in conspicuous places informing the public about the deadline.

Billions of Pesos worth of fake goods seized in Parañaque City

To the people of Parañaque City, did you notice something highly unusual in your community? Did you somehow purchase items that turned out to be fake? Have you been often using the products you bought recently?

Well, you might want to practice caution because a few days ago it was reported through the Philippine News Agency (PNA) that billions of pesos worth of fake products were seized by Customs agents in the City of Parañaque, specifically in Barangay Baclaran (or simply Baclaran as written in the report).

Bureau of Customs (BOC) officers have seized some PHP2 billion worth of various counterfeit items in Parañaque City.

In a statement on Friday, the bureau said the goods were seized during an inspection of storage facilities by the Intelligence Group’s Intellectual Property Rights Division (IPRD) – Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS) in Baclaran on Thursday.

The items are composed of earphones, shoes, and bags bearing known registered trademarks such as Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Onitsuka Tiger, Vans, Adidas, Nike, JBL, Sony, and Jordan.

The team also discovered counterfeit personal care products such as Cetaphil, Pantene, Head & Shoulders, Vaseline, Jergens, Dove, Nivea, Glutamax, Kojic, Joe Malone, Bulgari, D&G, Channel, Victoria’s Secret, Hugo Boss, and Clinique.

The haul is one of the bureau’s biggest seizure of counterfeit goods this year.

The inspection was conducted through a letter of authority (LOA) and mission order (MO) signed by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

The imported items were seized for the possible violation of Section 118 (f) of the Republic Act (RA) 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and RA 8293 also known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (IPCP).

The BOC also stated that beauty products and perfume found to be fake may contain chemicals that are toxic and harmful to users. Now check out this related news video.

COVID-19 Crisis: A new way of registering for free vaccines in Las Piñas City now available

To ensure that more of the constituents can get registered to avail of free COVID-19 vaccines, the City Government of Las Piñas added a third option of registering and has since been implemented. This was revealed in a recent news report by the Manila Bulletin.

Aside from the manual and online registration, Vice Mayor April Aguilar said Las Piñas is also offering on-site assisted registration in the city’s vaccination venues.

Aguilar said registration officers will be deployed in vaccination sites to assist visitors or passers-by who wish to be listed for vaccination.

In a recent post by the City Government on its official Facebook page, those who register on-site will be given a profiling form for them to disclose their details. This third way of registration should attract the attention of those who don’t have smartphones or computers, those who don’t have access to the Internet and those who could not register themselves the manual way.

In relation, the number of residents who got vaccinated has exceeded the 80,000 mark. In fact, most recently, the latest count was updated by the local health office as 86,137 as of June 2, 2021. The breakdowns are 57,597 who were vaccinated with the first dose, and 28,540 residents who received successfully their second dose. The grand total of Las Piñas should reach 100,000 soon.

COVID-19 Crisis: More Sputnik V vaccines coming to the Philippines

Gradually, millions in additional doses of COVID-19 vaccines are coming into the Philippines and around ten million doses are to be administered this month. Along the way, Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik V has been used to immunize thousands of Filipinos (check out the Sputnik V launch in Muntinlupa City and Parañaque City). As of May 30, 2021, a grand total of 80,000 doses of Sputnik V has arrived in the Philippines.

But there is more! According to an article published by Philippine News Agency (PNA), Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that further supplies of Sputnik V vaccine doses will keep coming to the Philippines.

The Philippines can expect more Sputnik V Covid-19 vaccine doses in the coming months after Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to increase the volume of deliveries.

According to a statement from the Office of the President (OP), Putin made this commitment in a telesummit with President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday.

“President Putin said that Russia will increase the volume of deliveries of Sputnik V vaccines to the Philippines,” the OP statement read.

Duterte, for his part, thanked Putin for making Sputnik V available to the Philippines and reiterated the importance of the expeditious delivery of ordered vaccines.

On May 30, the Philippines received 50,000 more doses of the Sputnik V vaccines.

The country has so far received a total of 80,000 Sputnik V doses, including the latest shipment.

For the newcomers reading this, Sputnik V is an adenovirus viral vector vaccine for COVID-19 developed by Russia-based Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. When the first batch of the Russian vaccines arrived in early May, the City of Muntinlupa was one of the first cities to receive them. In connection to the latest batch that arrived from Russia, Sputnik V has finally made its way to the island province of Cebu. COVID-19 Crisis: Over 80,000 Las Piñas City residents vaccinated

According to a recent news report by the Manila Bulletin, over eighty thousand residents of Las Piñas City got vaccinated for COVID-19. To be more specific, the official count was at 82,526 residents who received the first and second doses of the free vaccines. This was announced by the City Government of Las Piñas to the Manila Bulletin just as a brand-new vaccination site opened within the city lately.

The Las Pinas City government’s biggest vaccination site located at The Tent, Vista Global South in C5 Extension, is now open to serve residents and can accommodate around 650 to 1,000 vaccinees a day.

Paul San Miguel, public Information chief, said the new vaccination site is an addition to the 14 existing centers that provide service to around 300 people a day.

San Miguel said the city government now has a total of 15 vaccination sites around the city and will add five more centers to speed-up the vaccination program of the city.

He also said the city government already vaccinated around 82,526 residents with the first and second doses against COVID-19.

The Las Pinas City government also emphasized the importance of vaccination in a Facebook post and reminded residents who have not been inoculated to register for it.

San Miguel said the city government is also giving free face masks to those who are given the vaccines in all vaccination centers.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar also urged city residents to observe the basic health protocols to stop the spread of the virus.

The above is really good news for city residents. The Tent along C5 Extension should help the many registered residents in terms of getting vaccinated in a more comfortable and more spacious place. The said new vaccination should also help somewhat in decongesting the traffic at the smaller vaccination sites around the city. Muntinlupa LDRRM council prepares for Tropical Storm Dante

As Tropical Storm Dante moves northwestward towards Luzon, Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi convened the Local Disaster Risk Response and Management (LDRRM) Council to discuss preparation and response efforts.

The mayor presided the LDRRM council meeting yesterday and ordered barangay chairmen to prepare for the preemptive evacuation of residents in danger-prone areas and implement disaster risk response protocols. He also ordered the city and barangay risk reduction and management teams to be put on red-alert.

The City Government is preparing for the prepositioning of emergency response resources and equipment such as generator sets, rescue boats, emergency vehicles including government flexi-trucks, search and rescue equipment, among others.

Pruning of trees along dangerous areas are also being prepared by the local environmental sanitation center. Construction sites are set to be inspected to ensure safety precautions on cranes and construction booms while billboards in the city are being rolled up.

According to the 11:00AM weather bulletin of DOST-PAGASA, Tropical Storm Dante has made landfall at San Agustin, Romblon at around 8:50 AM and will continue moving northwestward passing Batangas before making another landfall over Bataan tonight.

TS Dante is forecasted to bring moderate to heavy rains in Metro Manila and will maintain its strength until it makes landfall over mainland Luzon.

The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (MCDDRM) advised city residents to be vigilant and monitor advisories from PAG-ASA and the local government.

For emergency concerns, Muntinlupa City residents may reach the local hotline at 137-175.

P1.36 million worth of illegal drugs seized and 3 suspects arrested in Parañaque City

As I was browsing for South Metro Manila news on the website of the Manila Bulletin, I found the latest crime news related to Parañaque. It is about local police officers succeeding in their buy-bust operation that resulted the seizure of over a million pesos worth of illegal drugs and the arrest of three suspects. The local police officers and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) deserve to admiration and thanks in the fight against what seems to be a wave of crime plaguing Parañaque a lot lately (read about the cyber sex den raid, the kidnapped Chinese national, the arrest of suspects related to illegal sale of COVID-19 test kits, illegal drugs in the city, the shooting incident and smuggled face shields in the city, and the arrest of a very wanted Japanese national).

Southern Police District (SPD) Director, Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg, identified the suspects as Mary Ann Villa, 31, of 75 Peras St., General Malvar Exit, Bagong Bario, Caloocan City; Christina Bungay, 33, of Block 13d Lot 20, Karimas Village, Barangay Panghulo, Malabon City; and Sohaily Batao, 30, of Phase 12 Barangay 188, Tala, Caloocan Cty.

Macaraeg said the suspects were arrested at about 2:50 p.m. on May 31 in front of a restaurant located along service road, Roxas Boulevard, Barangay Baclaran, Paranaque City.

He said that prior to the arrest of the suspects, members of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) coordinated with the Paranaque Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) on the conduct of the buy-bust operation.

The SPD chief said that PDEA and SDEU operatives were able to confiscate a plastic sachets and bags containing a total of 200 grams of shabu worth P1,360,000.

COVID-19 Crisis: GCQ in NCR Plus until June 15, 2021

While it was announced really late in the evening of May 31, the general community quarantine (GCQ) remains in effect in the National Capital Region (NCR) and the bordering provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal from June 1 to June 15, 2021.

The general community quarantine (GCQ) quarantine classification in Metro Manila and other areas has been extended until June 15, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Monday night.

Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to extend the GCQ status in the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal (NCR Plus) for 15 more days to prevent a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, in a press statement, said some restrictions shall remain in place in NCR Plus limiting the capacities of certain industries.

I want to add here that vaccination registration and processes are being done by the many local government units around the nation. Millions more new vaccines will arrive this month. That being said, I encourage you – those who have not yet registered for free COVID-19 vaccines – to get registered and wait for the local authorities to contact you. I just received my 2^nd dose of vaccine from Russia here in Muntinlupa City. In my two appointments for vaccination, the local organizing of the processes, verification and health check were done efficiently and smoothly. Even if one gets fully vaccinated (2 doses), there is still a need to follow health protocols.

COVID-19 Crisis: 165 face mask, face shield violators apprehended in Muntinlupa Police’s Oplan Sita

In an attempt to reduce COVID-19 transmission associated to non-compliance with health protocols, the City Government of Muntinlupa has augmented operations to apprehend violators of face mask and face shield rules.

Members of Muntinlupa City Police Station recorded 165 individuals who are not wearing, or improperly wearing, face masks and face shields in eight barangays during the conduct of Oplan Sita from May 30 – May 31. Of the total number of violators, 43 individuals were fined while 122 received first warning.

While the City Government awaits new guidelines on arresting those caught violating face mask rules from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Department of Justice (DOJ), provisions under Muntinlupa City Ordinance No. 2020-109 have been imposed.

Under the local ordinance, every person in Muntinlupa is required to wear face masks at all times whenever outside of their residence, at the workplace, when entering government buildings and offices, and in public places.

Penalties for offenders include P300 for first offense, P500 for second offense, and P1,000 for third and subsequent offenses. For violators who are minors, a stern warning will be given for the first offense, withdrawal of scholarship grant from the City Government or P300 for non-grantee for second offense, and P500 for third and subsequent offenses. The penalty fee for minors will be charged against their parents or guardians.

The City Government of Muntinlupa has imposed stricter implementation of its local ordinance on the mandatory wearing of face masks following President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to arrest people who will be caught not wearing a face mask properly in public spaces.

Further, the City Government lifted liquor ban but with restrictions for the duration of less stringent community quarantines.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi reminds city residents to continue to observe health protocols such as frequent hand-washing, wearing of face masks, and physical distancing.

“COVID-19 is still an imminent threat so I urge everyone to be responsible and to continue observing health protocols even as quarantine measures and the liquor ban are relaxed,” Fresnedi said.

Muntinlupa City has recorded a decrease in COVID-19 cases within the last two weeks. From 1,036 active cases last May 16, it has reduced to 604 cases as of May 30.

To date, there are 12,850 confirmed cases with 11,903 recoveries, 343 reported deaths, 102 suspect cases, and 1,631 probable cases in Muntinlupa.
