Prohibition on e-bikes and e-trikes on major Metro Manila roads takes effect today

Be mindful that effective today, electric bikes (e-bikes) and electric tricycles (e-trikes) are officially prohibited from traveling along major roads of Metro Manila in accordance to the Metro Manila Council’s approved resolution.

To be very clear, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) declared the following thoroughfares as off-limits to e-bikes and e-trikes: C1: Recto Avenue; C2: Pres. Quirino Avenue; C3: Araneta Avenue; C4: EDSA; C5: Katipunan/CP Garcia; C6: Southeast Metro Manila Expressway; R1: Roxas Boulevard; R2: Taft Avenue; R3: Osmeña Highway (South Superhighway); R4: Shaw Boulevard; R5: Ortigas Avenue; R6: Magsaysay Blvd./Aurora Blvd; R7: Quezon Ave./Commonwealth Ave; R8: A. Bonifacio Ave.; R9: Rizal Ave.; R10: Del Pan/Marcos Highway/McArthur Highway; Elliptical Road; Mindanao Avenue; and Marcos Highway.

As mentioned previously, it is up to the Metro Manila local government units (LGUs) to add more roads to the above list by means of approving local ordinances. Going back to the ban on e-trikes and e-bikes on Metro Manila’s major roads, Muntinlupa City Mayor Ruffy Biazon publicly emphasized the aspect of safety.

“It is about time we rationalize the use of these vehicles which are increasingly getting involved in accidents, cause traffic and endanger their users,” Mayor Biazon said in Manila Bulletin’s February 28, 2024 news report.

I should also state that there have been a lot of videos of e-trikes and e-bikes that caused problems on public roads and posted below for your viewing are YouTube videos I found. Do not be surprised to see how reckless or careless some e-bike/e-trike drivers turned out as caught on video.

It’s one thing for a person to drive an e-bike or e-trike, it is completely another for him or her to be fully oriented with traffic rules and safety oriented driving. In my view, all e-bike and e-trike units should be registered with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and each driver of electric vehicles should be required to get licensed to drive (which includes attending seminars and passing the tests). This is all about the greater good, the need to be orderly and ensuring road safety in general.

Cop arrested for shooting motorcycle rider in Parañaque City, suspect denies allegations

Recently in the City of Parañaque, a police officer was apprehended for shooting dead a motorcycle rider in Barangay San Dionisio, according to a GMA Network news report. The incident happened during Holy Week and the suspect (currently in jail) denied the allegations against him.

A police officer who is an active member of the mobile unit of the Philippine National Police-Aviation Security Group was arrested for allegedly shooting a motorcycle rider in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque.

According to Mariz Umali’s Saturday 24 Oras Weekend report, 27-year-old Neil Wong was shot dead at around 6:40 a.m. He was seen by a witness talking to the suspect before the attack.

“Nakita ko nang bumagsak na po yung biktima. Tapos sinisigawan ko na yung suspect, sabi ko ‘Huy!’” said the witness.

(I saw the victim fall. Then, I shouted at the suspect, I said ‘Huy!’)

According to the Parañaque Police, the suspect attempted to steal the victim’s motorcycle but ran after it failed to start and was arrested by a passing police patrol.

Taken from the suspect were his service firearm, bullets, and two of the victim’s mobile phones.

“Ang motibo na nakikita namin dito yung robbery,” said Parañaque Police Investigation Chief Police Captain Melvin Garcia.

(The motive that we’re seeing is robbery.)

The victim may also have been in the area because his motorcycle broke down.

Meanwhile, the suspect denied the allegations.

“Bigla niya kong binato out of nowhere. Kala ko di niya sinasadya. Tapos maya-maya bigla niya ko minura. Kaya ko yun nagawa sa kanya, yung binaril ko siya. Humihingi ako ng tawad sa lahat ng kaanak, sa mga magulang at saka sa mga mahal niya sa buhay,” the suspect said.

(He suddenly threw something at me out of nowhere. I thought he didn’t mean it, but later he suddenly cursed at me. That’s why I did it, shooting him. I’m asking for forgiveness from all his relatives, parents, and his loved ones)

Pawnshop messenger killed by gunman in Parañaque City

Recently in the City of Parañaque, a pawnshop messenger was shot dead by an unidentified gunman who remains on the loose and the local police are tackling the possibility that the victim was targeted due to his alleged past as an asset of the police, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Probers at the Parañaque City police are looking into the possibility that the killing on Thursday, March 21, of a pawnshop messenger was allegedly due his being a former police asset.

The Southern Police District (SPD) said the victim, identified as alias Juan, 45, of Camp Bagong Diwa, Lower Bicutan, Taguig City and a messenger at Champion Pawnshop located along Lopez Avenue, Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City, was shot dead at around 7:40 a.m.

According to the report of the Parañaque city police, the victim was reportedly opening the sliding accordion metal door of the establishment when he was approached by a male person wearing a black hoody jacket, blue pants, red t-shirt, and white rubber shoes and was shot several times in the body.

The Parañaque City police said that based on the CCTV footage in the area, the suspect arrived with a male companion on board a motorcycle and parked their vehicle at the tricycle terminal.

The police said the gunman alighted from the motorcycle and walked casually to the establishment where alias Jun was working.

A few minutes later, a burst of gunfire was heard and the gunman was seen running going to the direction of his companion.

The police added that the motive of the killing could have been revenge because of his allegedly being a former police asset.

Justice for APA achieved as son Nelson Antonio found guilty

On the morning of March 21, 2024 at Branch 274 of the Parañaque Regional Trial Court (RTC), suspect Nelson Antonio was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the September 11, 2013 killing of his father Antonio P. Antonio (also referred to as Tonton and APA) and was sentenced to reclusion perpetua.

As expected, the verdict rendered by the honorable Judge Regina Paz Ramos Chavez drew reactions of happiness and relief from the surviving members of the Antonio family who worked hard to achieve justice for the late APA. In a statement to the journalists who were present, the prosecutor Atty. Carlo Ybañez said that the verdict of guilty beyond reasonable doubt on Nelson Antonio was inevitable as it was clear that their side had many witnesses of the murder that happened in the Antono residence along Concha Cruz Drive, and there was also the fact that the suspect fled and hid overseas to elude justice (note: the charge of parricide was filed in late 2013) for years.

Atty. Ybañez said they are anticipating the next move of the defense which could possibly be an appeal.

“We thank the entire community, the police and the lawyers who helped us for more than ten years in our pursuit for justice. We also thank the public officials who assisted us,” Xialen Antonio stated.

Xialen also reminded the journalists that a certain TV program aired the case of APA which caused an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the Middle East to recognize Nelson (already in Dubai, United Arab Emirates) and contacted the Philippine police attache to the UAE which led to the suspect’s arrest and return to the Philippines. Ten people hurt as a result of water tank explosion in Parañaque City

Recently in the City of Parañaque, ten people got hurt due to a water tank’s sudden explosion, according to a GMA Network news report. The explosion, which happened in Barangay Tambo, also caused some structural damage on a building.

Ten people were injured after a water tank on the roof deck of a building exploded in Parañaque City on Saturday night, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB.

Portions of the building, located along Quirino Avenue in Barangay Tambo, were damaged due to the blast that happened past 9 p.m.

Witnesses said debris fell on the street and hit several vehicles, including a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and an e-trike, according to a report on Super Radyo dzBB. A power line was also affected.

According to Barangay Tambo Peace and Order officer-in-charge Denson Cano, he was in a nearby eatery when he heard an explosion, which he initially mistook as a bomb.

“Kumakain ako dito sa bulaluhan. ‘Yung putok, akala namin, akala ko may sumabog na bomba or something kasi malakas and then mga two to 10 seconds later, may second explosion which was itong, ‘yung ano, transformer,” he said Jhomer Apresto’s report on “24 Oras Weekend”

(I was eating, and we thought there was a bomb that exploded because it was powerful, and then two to 10 seconds later, there was a second explosion, which was the transformer.)

Among those injured was a 13-year-old identified as Sebseb, who was on an e-bike when the explosion happened. The rush of the water swept the e-trike away and caused him to fall into a nearby hole.

“Nakasakay po ako sa e-bike eh. Hindi ko po alam kung anong nangyari eh, basta may bumagsak po samin tapos basang basa po kami ng tubig talaga,” he said in the same report.

(I was riding an e-bike. I don’t know what happened, just that something fell on us, and we were wet.)

Also injured was a nearby shopkeeper who sustained a lump on the head after being hit by the debris that fell. Some streets had to be closed for clearing operations.

GMA Integrated News Bulletin reported that the building management has assured that it would cover the medical expenses of the injured victims.

Online seller and two others apprehended in Parañaque City for selling illegal substance

A woman online seller and two others were arrested by members of the Parañaque City Police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) for selling shabu during a buy-bust operation conducted on Tuesday, March 5.

The Southern Police District (SPD) identified the suspects as alias Weng, 30, an online seller; alias Jerico, 27; and alias Erwin, 40.

The SPD said the suspects were arrested at around 6:15 a.m. along Draga St., Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City.

The police said alias Weng and alias Jerico were tagged by the Parañaque city police as high value individuals (HVI) while alias Erwin was placed under Street Level Individual (SLI).

Recovered from the arrested suspects were 125 grams of shabu worth P850,000 and the P1,000 buy-bust money. The police said the recovered evidence from the suspect was turned over to the Southern Police District Forensic Unit (SPDFU) for analysis.

Suspect behind the murder of a woman in Parañaque City surrenders

Recently in the City of Parañaque, a woman (mother of two) was shot dead by a gunman in front of a coffee shop in Barangay San Dionisio. Shortly after the killing, the suspect surrendered voluntarily to the local authorities, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

The suspect in the shooting to death of a 43-year-old woman in front of a coffee shop in Parañaque City on Feb. 15 voluntary surrendered to the police on the same day.

According to the Southern Police District (SPD), the suspect identified as alias “Cafgu” voluntary surrendered to the officers of San Dionisio Police Substation at around 11:00 p.m.

The SPD said the suspect was accompanied by his relatives when he yielded to the police. He was immediately turned over the Parañaque Police Investigation Section.

The police filed a murder case against the suspect for killing Yolanda, 43, at around 6:00 p.m. in front of a coffee shop on Palanyag Road in Gatchalian, Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City.

The victim was with her two sons and was about to board their car when the suspect approached and shot her several times in the head.

Yolanda was declared dead on arrival at the Olivarez Hospital.

Police investigators said the two sons of the victim positively identified the suspect as the one who shot their mother.

During investigation, police learned the suspect’s licenses to own and possess firearms had expired on March 11, 2022.

A man was shot dead while waiting for his dinner to be served in front of a restaurant in Parañaque City, Thursday night, Feb. 15.

The victim, identified as alias Jun, was shot dead at around 7:45 p.m. in front of a restaurant located along E. Rodriguez St., Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City.

Parañaque City police chief Col. Reycon Garduque said the victim reportedly ordered food and was waiting for it to be served when an unidentified man approached him and shot him twice at the back of his head.

Garduque said the victim died on the spot due to two gunshot wounds.

He said the victim was reportedly working as an E-Trike driver. He was previously detained for his alleged involvement in illegal drug activities.

The gunman was reportedly wearing a black jacket, black cap, and shorts.

113 people avail of health services in Tahanan Village

This past Sunday (February 11) inside Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, Parañaque City, over one hundred people availed of varied health services at the poolside area of the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) clubhouse as a result of the newest health check activity of the Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI) headed by its President Florencia Umali.

According to Umali, a total of 113 people arrived, paid fees for the special health package or other individual health services, and then joined the lines to be served. The activity lasted from 5:30 AM to 10AM and blood test results will be released on February 18.

Several people availed of the special diagnostic package worth P350 which includes Electrocardiogram (ECG), fasting blood sugar (FBS), total cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen, uric acid, CBC, urinalysis, SGPT and free platelet count. There were other tests offered with prices ranging from P150 to P800.

When asked about when will the health check activity inside Tahanan Village happen next, the CCTI president said it might take place during the 3^rd quarter of 2024.

Chinese national arrested in Parañaque City for illegal possession of firearms

Recently in the city of Parañaque, local police officers arrested a Chinese national for illegally possessing two guns and several pieces of ammunition, according to a Manila Bulletin news report. The arrest took place in Barangay Don Galo.

A Chinese national was arrested by members of the Parañaque City Police Sto. Nino Substation after he was caught in possession of two .45-caliber pistols on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Police said the suspect, identified as “Jung”, was nabbed at around 12:50 a.m. in front of a hotel on Macapagal Boulevard in Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City.

A concerned citizen sought help from Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officers after seeing the suspect with a gun while on board a pickup truck. They then asked for assistance from the police to apprehend Jung.

The police said that upon their arrival in the area, the suspect immediately threw his gun into the back of his vehicle.

The suspect was arrested after police recovered from him two .45-caliber pistols with 13 live bullets.

He was immediately brought and detained at the Parañaque Police custodial facility.
