On Thursday, May 23rd, City Vice Mayor April Aguilar led the inauguration of the new CAA-C Health Center in Barangay BF International CAA, a significant development aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the area. City Health Office OIC Dr. Juliana Gonzalez was also present, highlighting the city’s commitment to accessible healthcare.

The new health center offers a comprehensive range of free services, including infant and child immunization, medical consultations, and dental services such as tooth extractions, fluoride treatments, and free dentures. Additionally, it provides pre-natal and post-partum care, tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, and adolescent mental health and teenage pregnancy counseling.

Other services include STI/HIV screening, management of lifestyle-related diseases like hypertension, diabetes, and cancer, cervical screening, and nutrition assessment and counseling. The center also serves as an initial point of care for Green Card or Las Piñas City Health Program (LPCHP) holders and provides referrals for diagnostic laboratory services.

Swimming Lessons at Tropical Palace Resort Hotel to start on June 10, 2024

The Swimming Lessons 2024 program at Tropical Palace Resort Hotel in BF International, Las Piñas City will begin on June 10, 2024, and already enrollment is ongoing.

The swimming lessons will be taught by coach Alec Dequiña who has over twelve years’ experience in coaching and was an NCAA medalist.

Courses offered for those who are interested to learn swimming are as follows: Basic (6-years-old and older) with schedule of 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM; Advance (6-years-old and older) with schedule of 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM; and Toddlers (4-years-old) with schedule of 8:45 to 9:45 AM.

Basic course enrollment fee is at P5,500. Advance course enrollment fee is also at P5,500. Toddlers course enrollment fee is at P6,000.

Las Piñas City held the KALINISAN sa Bagong Pilipinas Clean-Up Drive at the Arratelis Open Court, Brgy. CAA/BF International on Saturday, April 27th. The event was spearheaded by DILG Secretary Atty. Benhur Abalos Jr. and attended by city officials, including Vice Mayor April Aguilar.

The clean-up drive forms part of the broader KALINISAN or “Kalinga at Inisyatiba Para sa Malinis na Bayan” program, aimed at enhancing environmental health and safety through community efforts.

The initiative focuses on integrating all segments of society to take part in environmental preservation through the traditional Filipino value of ‘bayanihan.’, with the goal of fostering public awareness about environmental care and motivating local government units to invest in solid waste management and sustainable ecological practices.

The day’s activities included a series of community cleaning efforts, such as trash collection and the beautification of public spaces and a planting activity at the urban garden.

Members of the Las Piñas City Police- Warrant and Subpoena Section (WSS) conducted an operation against wanted persons that led to the arrest of a drug suspect on Friday, Feb. 16.

According to the Southern Police District (SPD), the suspect identified as Efondo Masanga, 43, listed as the top eight wanted persons for February, was arrested at around 3:30 p.m. along Barangay CAA, Las Piñas City.

The SPD said members of the WSS in coordination with personnel from the Station Intelligence Section nabbed the suspect by a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Josefina Eco Siscar of Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 201 last Feb. 1, in violation of illegal drug possession.

The Las Piñas City government and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority launched “ Bayanihan sa Barangay,” a project that will invoke the “bayanihan” spirit among Filipinos in cleaning up the surroundings, on Thursday, Feb. 15 at Barangay BF International, CAA.

The “Bayanihan sa Barangay” project was personally supervised by Las Piñas City Administrator Reynaldo Balagulan with Public Information Office chief Paul Ahljay San Miguel in coordination with MMDA General Manager, Ret. P/Col. Procopio Lipana.

Balagulan said the project aims to conduct clearing operations on sidewalks, roads, markets, creeks, place traffic signages, and cut obstructive and dead trees.

He said the activity, aside from cleaning the city’s surroundings, also ensures the health of its residents and the safety of everyone.

Three vloggers who went viral for staging a kidnapping prank were arrested by authorities last August 1, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a report on Monday, the PNP said Las Piñas City Police Station arrested vloggers Mark Heroshi San Rafael, Mark Lester San Rafael, and Eleazar Steven Fuentes after their video, which was uploaded last April 7 went viral and drew flak online.

The video was uploaded on the vloggers’ YouTube channel “Tukomi,” featuring one of its members buying food from several side street vendors and food stalls along Saging Street, Phase 2 in Barangay CAA, Las Piñas when suddenly a group of men onboard a vehicle seized him.

After the video went viral, PNP-Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group Staff Sergeant Ronnie Conmigo lodged the complaint against the trio, which led to the issuance of a warrant of arrest by Judge Lynnette May Deloria-Manarang of Metropolitan Trial Court (MTC) Branch 124.

2023 Waterlily Festival in Las Piñas City emphasizes care for the environment, competition winners announced

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, the 16^th edition of the Waterlily Festival took place which continues to emphasize to local residents the commitment of taking care of the environment, according to a press release published through Senate.gov.ph. The said festival had a slew of activities and competitions that symbolically emphasized environmental care.

This year’s celebration of the Las Piñas Waterlily Festival reinforced the commitment of Las Piñas residents to value and protect the environment.

Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, who started the festival in 2005, said the yearly event is not only a celebration or a venue for the city’s most talented performers but also a recognition of the importance of environmental protection.

“Today, the waterlily is no longer a menace or a pest but a symbol of ingenuity, resilience, and community cooperation. It stands as a testament to our collective commitment to preserve our environment,” Villar, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, said.

Villar lauded the shared efforts of Las Piñeros in the rehabilitation of the Las Piñas and Zapote River through the Sagip Ilog Program, an initiative she started when she was Las Piñas Representative. Water hyacinths or what is commonly known as water lilies were considered as aquatic pests clogging the Las Piñas and Zapote River, which caused massive flooding in the city.

One of the most awaited activities of the festival is the Ms. Waterlily Pageant 2023. It is participated in by female candidates fielded by each of the 20 barangays in Las Piñas City. The candidates will be judged according to beauty, intelligence, and the over-all creativity of their respective gowns made of waterlilies.

Candidates are required to create their attire using 100% waterlily. Prizes at stake include Php 30,000 cash, flowers, trophy and crown for the Ms. Las Piñas Waterlily 2023, Php 20,000 cash, trophy and flowers for the First Runner-up, and Php 10,000 cash, trophy and flowers for the Second Runner-up.

This year’s winners are: Francine Anne T. De Castro of Talon Tres, Ms Waterlily 2023; Christine Maico Bautista of Brgy. Talon 5; 1st Runner-up Loiuse Zapanta of Brgy.Pamplona Tres, 2nd Runner-up; Princess Romana De Guzman of Brgy.Almanza Dos as Ms. Photogenic and Ayessa Emille Estrellado of Brgy.Pulang-Lupa Uno as Ms Congeniality. Likewise, designer Nash Leeho of Talon Singko won the best designer award

Also, part of the festivities is the Sayaw Kabataan (SK) Para Sa Kalikasan” Dance Video Contest. This activity requires each barangay to field 10 to 15 youth dancers, who will be dancing to an upbeat song that they have to demonstrate in a 3 to 5-minute dance presentation. The incorporation of waterlilies as a prop, costume, or background, is a requirement for this contest.

Winners of the SK Para sa Kalikasan competition was judged based on their creativity, content, and messaging; choreography, presentation, and originality; and video presentation. The following prizes are up for grabs: Champion Php 30,000 and trophy, First Runner-up: Php 20,000 and trophy, Second Runner-up: Php 10,000 and trophy.

This year’s SK para sa Kalikasan this year are; Remake Family of Brgy. BF International-CAA, Grand Champion; Talon Youth for Progress Organization Dance Company of Brgy.Talon Uno, First Runner-up; Fusion Flames of Brgy.Talon Singko, second runner-up and People’s Choice; and Ry Ultra of Brgy Ilaya, Best in Costume.

Through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Mayor Mel Aguilar reached out to the victim’s family in Brgy. CAA, expressing her condolences and assuring them of the city’s support during this difficult time.

Recognizing the emotional and financial burden they now face, the CSWDO representatives personally visited the bereaved family to provide immediate financial aid and offer additional support services including the cremation of their beloved child at the Las Piñas public crematorium.

Minor found dead inside washing machine in Las Piñas City

Recently in the City of Las Piñas, a 4-year-old boy who was previously reported as missing was found dead inside a washing machine in one of the houses in Barangay BF International-CAA, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

A 4-year-old boy was found dead inside a washing machine two days after he was reported missing on May 26 in Las Piñas City.

The Las Piñas police said the body of the victim was discovered at around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 28, inside the house of his 15-year-old uncle in Kalamansi Street, Barangay CAA, Las Piñas City.

Col. Jaime Santos, city police chief, said the mother of the suspect reported the discovery of the decomposing body of the victim after smelling a foul odor inside the washing machine.

Santos said the mother of the suspect claimed the child had an accident and the suspect, who was frightened and in panic after seeing the boy was no longer moving, placed the child inside the washing machine.

He said the family of the victim claimed the child was left in the custody of his uncle on May 26. The police chief added that the child was reported missing by his father at around 4:00 p.m.

The victim’s father told the police that the child was last seen playing with his cousins.

The family of the child claimed the death of the victim was not an accident after the suspect made a post on his social medial account, implying that he allegedly killed his nephew. The post was later deleted.

The police is currently conducting an investigation and waiting for the autopsy report to determine whether foul play was behind the death of the child.

Two suspects arrested and almost P200K in illegal drugs seized in Las Piñas City

The Las Piñas police Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) conducted a buy-bust operation which led to the arrest of two siblings on Wednesday, May 24.

The Southern Police District (SPD) identified the suspects as Alvin Flores, 33, alias “Tol,” and Rosalyn, 40.

Col. Jaime Santos, city police chief, said the suspects were arrested at around 11:30 p.m. along Avocado Street, Barangay CAA, FB International, Las Piñas City.

Santos said the SDEU conducted the operation in response to complaints the police received from citizens concerning the alleged illegal drugs trading by the siblings.

Confiscated from the suspects were 29 grams of shabu worth P197, 200 and the P300 buy-bust money.
