This past Sunday inside Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes in ParaƱaque City, several people converged at the area of the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) clubhouse by the poolside to avail of varied health services during the health check activity which was a special project of the Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI) headed by its President Florencia Umali. According to Umali, the total number of patients present was at one hundred and seventy three (173).
Several patients paid P350 each for a diagnostic package that includes a free platelet count (for dengue test), ECG, FBS, BUN, SGPT, CBC, Uric Acid, Urinalysis and Total Cholesterol test. There were also other tests that were offered by health services provider Sto. Domingo Diagnostic & Medical Center Corp. during the activity such as Triglycerides for P150, Creatinine for P150, HBA 1C for P300, Chest X-Ray for P150 and TPAG for P200 to name some. Also present during the activity were personnel who prepared coffee, pandesal and a hot meal for the benefit of the patients. The health check test results are scheduled for release on October 22.

“We are very happy over the reception of this special project of our club and the fact that we were able to organize this after the COVID-19 pandemic,” CCTI President Flor Umali said. “The staff are very courteous and prompt with their work in serving the patients. We will have this health check activity again on February 11, 2024.”
Umali added that their local community health check project received valuable support from the Tahanan Village Board of Directors, ParaƱaque City Councilor Nina Sotto and Ryan Yllana, and from Barangay BF Homes Captain Paolo Marquez.

The CCTI President also announced that their next activity is the Christmas Bingo Bonanza set to happen on December 2, 2023, inside Tahanan Village.

This past weekend (Saturday night of December 3, 2022) inside Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City, the Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI) organized its first Christmas party in years and it attracted a huge reception from its members and guests, and several top officials of the City Government of ParaƱaque ā including the new Mayor and Vice Mayor ā attended and greeted the constituents. Indeed, the city, its communities and the nation are gradually moving forward from the downturn of COVID-19 and there is greater confidence among the people to gather and celebrate Christmas together now that restrictions have eased a lot.
According to CCTI president Florencia Umali, there were around one hundred fifty seniors who attended. Around two hundred people in total attended. The party was held at the covered basketball court located a short walk away from the village clubhouse.
āAfter two years of pandemic, (the) people (were) happy to see their neighbors and friends,ā Umali stated.

Having been present at the party myself, the atmosphere was festive, lots of people enjoyed the food and drinks as well as the music, dancing and raffle draw. Compared to what I attended in 2019, the Saturday night Christmas party atmosphere has this strong sense of normality. Guests were more confident to socialize with each other.
As with their Christmas part of 2019, the CCTIās credibility as a private senior citizenās club of Tahanan Village was realized yet again as City Mayor Eric Olivarez, Vice Mayor Joan Villafuerte-Densing and City Councilors Rico Golez, Nina Sotto, Bong Benzon plus former Councilor Wahoo Sotto graced the party.

The City Government officials interacted with guests and delivered their special greetings. Noticeably, new Councilor Nina Sotto gave a slew of public service updates while new Vice Mayor Villafuerte-Densing admitted that this was just her third time to be in Tahanan Village given the fact that she is based in District 1 of the city (note Tahanan Village and Barangay BF Homes are part of District 2). New Mayor Eric Olivarez delivered his remarks to the guests and danced to entertain everyone.
When asked about future activities or events of the CCTI, Umali confirmed that there will be a Valentineās party for senior citizens.

Looking back at the Christmas party of CCTI, it was really nice to see the return to normalcy as well as the spirit of Christmas getting celebrated inside Tahanan Village which is the premier residential community of Barangay BF Homes. Our Home Tahanan is the Definitive Book about Tahanan Village
If you want to discover and study the history of a well-established village such as Tahanan Village in Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City, donāt rely on a pretentious, so-called independent local community print media publication. Instead, pursue such information recorded in the official documents or an official publication of the village produced by the villagers.
As many of us here in South Metro Manila are confined into our homes with the ongoing quarantine on communities (which is part of the COVID-19 Crisis), I found time to read the official Tahanan Village coffee table book titled Our Home Tahanan.

Published in 2006, Our Home Tahanan is a commemorative publication that emphasizes the past, the present and the future of Tahanan Village which in 2005 celebrated what was back then its 30th Foundation Day. It has a collection of stories and testimonies from the pioneering residents and the later residents who contributed to the development of the Tahanan community in more ways than one. I myself enjoy reading it and examining the photos which clearly showed how much Tahanan Village developed through the decades.
A special project of the 2005 Board of Directors of the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA), Ā Our Home Tahanan has an extensive look at the history of the village starting even before it was founded in the 1970s. It also offers readers a look at the many organizations that not only organized several in-village activities and events, but also emphasized how lively Tahananās community really has been.
Letās take a look at how Our Home Tahanan was conceptualized and turned into an actual coffee table book.
From concept to a published work
The idea of developing an official coffee table book about Tahanan Village was raised in a meeting that was held on June 10, 2005. The Committee composed of Tess Arriola, Florencia Umali, Corly Vergara, Peter Olivares, Reno and Malou Araneta, Nene Sandico and then THA president Milton Lalisan had a thorough discussion about the elements and topics for a souvenir program in relation to the 30th Foundation Day of the village.

The idea of a coffee table book alone was perceived to be challenging at first and there were expressions of skepticism and incredulity. The mood eventually turned into optimism and determination.
According to then THA president Milton Lalisan, the Committee came to a decision to develop the coffee table book project.
Below is an excerpt with words of Lalisanā¦
It was agreed that we would develop a really nice, glossy book, semi-hard cover, with lots of colored and black/white pictures. The book should appeal to different types of readers:
+ Residents who have grown with the village, who were here when Tahanan was still on its pioneering stage.Ā
+ Residents who have built their houses at a later stage but who quickly managed to acclimatize to the environment around them.
+ Sons and daughters of residents who had their childhood in Tahanan Village, some who may now be in their teens, young adulthood or are parents themselves.
+ and those who have personal interests in Tahanan Village, the lot owners who have not built their houses, the prospective homeowners who are considering living in the village.
Afterwards, several forms of preparation followed: writing articles, researching, organizing an in-village photo contest, financing, editing and finally, publishing it.
According to Florencia Umali (now the incumbent president of the Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. or CCTI), she and her fellow members of the Committee worked long and hard to make the project a reality.
āWe coordinated with the different clubs and organizations, and the previous Tahanan Board (of Directors),ā Umali recalled. āWe also coordinated with the first homeowners of Tahanan Village. We also worked on collating their old pictures and memories.ā
After much hard work as well as editing done by a local resident, Our Home Tahanan got published.
The history of Tahanan Village and its origin
As mentioned earlier, this coffee table book also has the official history of Tahanan Village and what happened behind the scenes that led to its foundation way back in the 1970s.
Hereās an excerpt from the article Tahanan Village: How It All Began written by Digoy Fernandez.
I guess the Tahanan story really began with the friendship of Dominador āBandocā Mercado with both the Rufino and the Campillo families. According to youngest Campillo son Lito, Bandoc had a special way with his father, Sostenes Sr. Bandoc even had a free place to stay in the Campillo managed Shellbourne Hotel located strategically at the Luneta. I remember my group of friends, which included Charlie Rufino, going to watch movies for free in the Rufino theaters, and then dropping by the hotel to meet up with Bandoc and middle Campillo son, Jun, on many an occasion during our high school and college years.
One day, Bandoc approached the Rufino family with a proposition to develop 60 hectares of the Campillo rice farm in ParaƱaque into a subdivision. At that time, the heirs of the eldest Rufino patriarch, Vicente, wanted to try their hand in horizontal development. Their past experience in real estate was mostly in vertical development. At that time, BF Homes had already started and proved that a housing development beyond the Merville area could be a success. The Rufino family agreed provided that Bandoc take the helm of the management of the project.
Youngest son Charlie and youngest daughter Pixie were assigned to the project and were mentored directly by Bandoc. The latter drew up a joint venture agreement with the Campillo family, and thus, Tahanan Development Corporation had its beginning. The eldest Rufino daughter, Ditas, thought up the name āTahananā Village and also the use of flowers to denominate streets.

Our Home Tahanan also contains articles about how the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) started, what were the facilities and organizations in the village, how the villageās very own tennis club began, who were the pioneers and notable residents, and more. Special attention was also paid to the THAās relationship with contracted security agencies as well as the breakthroughs on securing the village that were realized when the association formed their Security Committee.

There are also many literary pieces written by village residents who shared their experiences and what living in the village truly is like. Adding depth to these articles are the many, many photographs of the times, the events, and the people involved with the village.
In my experience, Our Home Tahanan is not only a great published work to discover and research about Tahanan Villageā¦it is the definitive published work complete with the contributions and involvement of the villagers.

325 Avail of Health Services in Tahanan Village

No surprise about it. The Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI) headed by its president Flor Umali organized another successful health-check activity this morning at the poolside of their village clubhouse in Tahanan Village (Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City) attracting three hundred and twenty-five residents and homeowner association employees. That is twenty-five more than the patients who attended CCTIās previous health-check activity of September 2019.
As before, their medical mission supported by Barangay BF Homes, the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) and some corporate sponsors, started at 6AM and already a lot of people lined up to be the first to avail of health services. Take a look at the pictures I took.

A lot of the patients previously paid P350 to avail of the health-check package that includes good and bad cholesterol check, Triglycerides, Creatinine, SGOT, ECG, blood sugar count, total cholesterol count, BUN, Urice Acid, SGPT, CBC and urinalysis. There were also many who arrived for eye check-up, PSA, Hba1c, T3, T4, TSH and Na, K and Ci (electrolytes).
Those who had themselves tested will receive the results soon.

The Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI), a private club of senior citizens living in Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City, will be sponsoring on February 22, 2020 (Saturday) starting at 6AM (end at 10AM) the next Health Check-up (Executive Laboratory Check-up) activity at the poolside of the Tahanan Village clubhouse (where the village clinic is also located).
Open to all residents of the village, there will be a wide variety of services and examinations that people can avail of for their respective health-related needs or inquiries.
“We encourage the Tahanan Village residents to take advantage of the generously discounted health services as well as the convenience of the venue which is at the poolside of the clubhouse at the park,” Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. president Florencia Umali stated to me.

Indeed, to make the most out of their money, villagers can pay only P350 for a health-check package that includes good and bad cholesterol check, Triglycerides, Creatinine, SGOT, ECG, blood sugar count, total cholesterol count, BUN, Urice Acid, SGPT, CBC and urinalysis. These said services would have cost almost P1,300 at regular rates. That’s a tremendous amount of more than P900 in savings.
All of those who intend to avail of the health services related to blood testing are advised to bring their own urine sample and should have fasted between 10 hours to 12 hours.
Other health services people can choose from are PSA, Hba1c, T3, T4, TSH and Na, K and Ci (electrolytes). There will also be a free computerized eye refraction service as well.
The results of the medical tests will be released on March 1 at the Tahanan Village clinic. Free consultation is also offered.

The Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI), a private club of senior citizens living in Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City, had its annual Christmas party held at their village’s multi-purpose facility (covered basketball court) on the evening of December 6.
According to CCTI president Florencia Umali, there were roughly two hundred guests who attended, including the visitors. When asked about their club’s total membership, she told me that they currently have four hundred and thirty-nine members all in all.

Apart from enjoying the delicious food and drinks, nice music was played by hired musicians that kept everyone entertained.
In addition, varied local officials visited and greeted the guests. ParaƱaque City mayor Edwin Olivarez, his brother Congressman Eric, City Councilor Tess de Asis and former Barangay BF Homes chairwoman Florencia “Beng” Amurao arrived to personally meet the guests and have their pictures taken with them.

Sometime after De Asis, Amurao and the Olivarezes left, City Councilors Wahoo Sotto, Juvan Esplana and Bong Benzon arrived together. After greeting the guests, they each delivered short speeches and gave the people some updates regarding city legislation.

Finally the last city personality to arrive (after the City Councilors left) was former Congressman Gus Tambunting. He danced with the guests and delivered his remarks.

Throughout the evening, music was played, special prizes (including those donated by the local politicians) were raffled off, guests danced and socializing transpired. Like in previous years, Century Club’s Christmas part continued to not only be a fun event for the members and invited visitors, but managed to attract the local personalities and local authority officials.
One last thing I want to emphasize in closing this. There was one local community print media news publication based in BF Homes that incorrectly published that Century Club’s Christmas party was scheduled to happen on December 4, 2019. Upon reading that publication, I immediately called and verified with club president Umali who responded that December 6 is the precise date of their Christmas party. At the party, I asked other Century Club officials if they had previously planned to organize their Christmas party on December 4. They officially denied it and stated that December 6 has always been the original and precise date of schedule for their party.
Fake news? Human error? Reckless editing?Ā
So what’s with the incorrect publishing of the Century Club Christmas party date as December 4? Error with editing? A lapse of the mind? Lying to the public? Irresponsible journalism? Imagine advertising your business with such a careless local community print media publication.

Between one hundred eighty to two hundred people participated in the Bingo Socials fund-raising event of the Century Club of Tahanan which was held on October 12 at the covered court in Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City. The numbers were confirmed to me by Century Club’s president Florencia Umali who spearheaded the organizing of the games.
I personally looked around and took pictures for this article you are reading. Fortunately for me, I arrived just before City Councilor Tess de Asis delivered a short speech to the participants and the spectators. De Asis, who is best known in the City Government for her enduring legacy on local education and is now serving her third and final term, contributed to the prizes.

Apart from the councilor, Umali confirmed to me that Mayor Edwin Olivarez, Vice Mayor Rico Golez and Barangay BF Homes chairman Paolo Marquez respectively donated to the cash prizes of the event. Congresswoman Joy Tambunting donate a mobile phone while City Councilors Wahoo Sotto, Giovanni Esplana, Bong Benzon, Jackie Bustamante-Mendoza, Binky Favis and Jean Yllana donated in kind resulting multiple prizes for winners.
Meanwhile, the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA) and Martin Guzman of Village Cafe gave gift certificates to the event.
The participants were greeted personally by Councilors Sotto, Benzon and Congressman Eric Olivarez when they respectively visited the event. Olivarez even performed a dance to amuse the participants.

Umali told me that her club not only managed to raise some funds but also witnessed the happiness the participants had playing the bingo games and the smiles on the faces of very fortunate individuals who won cash prizes or raffle prizes. She added that the Bingo Socials proved to be effective in helping members of the local community get to know the new homeowners and, at the same time, promote camaraderie between them.
Ultimately the Bingo Socials brought the residents together which fit in nicely with Tahanan Village’s legacy of being one of the most neighbor-friendly villages not only in Barangay BF Homes but in South Metro Manila as a whole. The fact that several public officials of the city contributed to the prizes and made guest appearances showed that Century Club is a highly credible private club of senior citizens to them. Just a few months ago, no less than Office of Senior Citizen Affairs of ParaƱaque (OSCA-PQUE) officer-in-charge Dante Pacheco attended Century Club’s general meeting and made notable announcements.

If you like playing bingo games and want to win a prize or two, then Tahanan Village in ParaƱaque City is your next destination as the Bingo Socials will be held there on October 12 at 5PM. The precise venue is the covered court of the village which is just a short walk away from the clubhouse of the Tahanan Homeowners Association (THA).

Organized by the Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. (CCTI), the Bingo Socials is a fund-raising event that will support the clubās upcoming projects.
According to Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. president Florencia Umali, tickets are currently available and still for sale. Tickets are priced at P50 each while the block-out tickets are sold at P100 each.
āWe have ten games and two block-out (blackout) for the grand prize,ā she said. Umali stressed that details about the prizes will be announced soon as they are still finalizing them.
For those of you who are living outside of Tahanan Village, here is the good news ā non-residents (visitors) are welcome to enter the village, buy tickets and play in the Bingo Socials. If you are a non-resident driving a vehicle that does not have a Tahanan Village sticker, you just have to tell the village gate guard you will play in the bingo, then leave your ID card so that you can enter.

For the newcomers reading this, Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. is a private club of senior citizens who live inside Tahanan Village. The club is recognized by the the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs of ParaƱaque City (OSCA-ParaƱaque).

Before the services started at 6AM, several people were spotted waiting to get in line to be served. Many of them availed of the P350 health package which was composed of good and bad cholesterol check, Triglycerides, Creatinine, SGOT, ECG, blood sugar count, total cholesterol count, BUN, Urice Acid, SGPT, CBC and urinalysis. Most of the attendees not only fasted for ten to twelve hours but also brought samples of their own urine.
Other health services offered were PSA, Hba1c, T3, T4, TSH and Na, KĀ and Ci (electrolytes). Those who had their eyes checked availed of computerized eye refraction. Those who had their consultation with a doctor went on to avail of prescription drugs. Medical test results will be released on October 6.

Century Club of Tahanan president Florencia Umali confirmed to me that her club was delighted that their health project was well attended and that those who availed of the services were satisfied.
āOur project was very nicely attended. Of course, this project would not have been made possible without the support of the Tahanan Homeowners Association board of directors, Barangay BF Homes captain Paolo Marquez, City Councilor Wahoo Sotto, Asian Hospital and the Alviar Laboratory,ā Umali said.
Adding further zest to the project apart from the free food and free coffee (provided by the office of Councilor Wahoo Sotto) was a raffle draw which saw some fortunate winners going home happy.

The Health Check-Up activity on September 28 was a project of the Century Club of Tahanan in coordination with the Tahanan Homeowners Association, Inc. (THA) which is in-charge of the venue.
Scheduled for September 28, 2019 is the Health Check-Up activity of residents of Tahanan Village, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City. The activity will begin at 6AM and will end at 10AM and those who plan to avail of the services will have to go to the pool side of the village clubhouse where the village clinic is located at.
Currently offered is a package of services priced at P350 which includes good and bad cholesterol check, Triglycerides, Creatinine, SGOT, ECG, blood sugar count, total cholesterol count, BUN, Urice Acid, SGPT, CBC and urinalysis. All of those who intend to avail of the said services are advised to bring their own urine sample and ensure they fast for ten to twelve hours.
Other health services people can choose from are PSA, Hba1c, T3, T4, TSH and Na, KĀ and Ci (electrolytes). There will also be a free computerized eye refraction service as well.
The results of the medical tests will be released on October 6 at the Tahanan Village clinic.
According to Century Club of Tahanan, Inc. president Florencia Umali, the office of ParaƱaque City Councilor Wahoo Sotto will provide free coffee while the office of Barangay BF Homes chairman Paolo Marquez will provide free servings of arroz caldo with eggs.
