The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) just released the official list of Seal of Good and Local Governance (SGLG) awardees for 2024 and the City of Las Piñas made it, the City Government announced via social media. Las Piñas is one of the fourteen National Capital Region (NCR) cities that were declared awardees.

Las Piñas City was honored with the prestigious Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) 2024 from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in recognition of the smooth and effective governance of the city under the leadership of Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar. This award is only given to local governments that pass the strict standards of DILG in various aspects of public service and governance.

The SGLG focuses on ten key categories, including Financial Administration and Sustainability, which assesses proper and transparent use of city funds; Disaster Preparedness, which ensures disaster preparedness; Social Protection and Sensitivity, which emphasizes addressing the needs of the poor and vulnerable Sector; Health Compliance and Responsiveness, which promotes effective health services; Sustainable Education, which aims to improve the quality of education; Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, which facilitates business; Safety, Peace, and Order, which promotes safety and order; Environmental Management, which values environmental care; Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture, and Arts, promoting tourism and cultural appreciation; and Youth Development, encouraging active participation of youth in governance.

Through this recognition, Las Piñas City proved its continuous dedication in providing quality service for the welfare of its residents.

Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar thanked rescuers and volunteers for swiftly acting to evacuate 489 families affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

Aguilar was grateful to the rescuers composed of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the City Health Office (CHO), the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and volunteers for immediately evacuating residents who were staying in low-lying areas and bringing them to evacuation centers.

She said Vice Mayor April Aguilar led the distribution of essential aid, like modular tents to evacuees, cooked meals, and relief items to families affected by Kristine.

The mayor said families at the evacuation sites were also given prophylactic medicine for leptospirosis, distributed vitamins, free medical check-ups, and essential medications and face masks by the CHO team led by Dr. Julie Gonzalez.

Las Piñas City’s New Animal Shelter was inaugurated on Friday, September 27, in Barangay Ilaya. The event was attended by City Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar, who led the ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony of the facility. The shelter, which can accommodate up to 120 pets, is designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for rescued animals in the city.

The City Veterinary Office, headed by Dr. August Michael Basangan, spearheaded the project. Vice Mayor April Aguilar files COC to run for Mayor of Las Piñas, Mayor Imelda Aguilar to run for Vice Mayor

Yesterday at the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) office in the City of Las Piñas, Vice Mayor April Aguilar filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) to run for the office of Mayor in the May 2025 local elections. Her mother – Mayor Imelda Aguilar – filed her COC to run for Vice Mayor. City Councilor Mark Santos formalized his candidacy for the city’s Congressional seat the day before.

The Aguilars and Santos lead the election group called Team Aguilar which also announced its slate of candidates for the City Council covering the two local districts. The City Council candidates names are as follows:

District One – Alelee Aguilar, Zardi Abellera, Brian Bayog, Robert Cristobal, Marlon Rosales and Mac Mac Santos.

District Two – Henry Medina, Luigi Casimero, Tito Martinez, Lester Aranda, Macky Saito and Euan Toralballa.

For the newcomers reading this, Mayor Imelda Aguilar is serving her third consecutive term while Vice Mayor April Aguilar is serving her second term. The maximum number of consecutive terms of public service is three terms.
