Huelgas and Burgos Lead All Vermosa Aquathlon 1 Winners

2-time Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medalist Nikko Huelgas and Erika Nicole Burgos proved how strong they are among all the winners in the standard distance contest of the Vermosa Aquathlon 1 which was held recently at the world-class Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus City, Cavite.

Huelgas was unstoppable from start to finish as he finished the 500 meter swim- 5 kilometer run course in a swift 25 minutes and 54 seconds, easily winning the Male 25-29 age-group title. Meanwhile the next two fastest males were from the 18-24 category namely Juan Francisco Baniqued and Inaki Lorbes who finished in 27:00 and 27:17 respectively.

Among the ladies in the event presented by Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, Standard Insurance, Apollo Petroleum Jelly, Alviera, LeGarde L-Carnitine, Smart, official timing partner Garmin, hydration partners Pocari Sweat and Sip Purified Water, shoe partner Saucony and recovery partner Air Relax Massage Guns Philippines, Erika Nicole Burgos emerged as the Female 18-24 champion after clocking in 30:33. She was followed by Female 15-17 champion Olivia Kwon with 33:25 while Female 18-24 entry Bea Marie Quiambao registered the 3rd fastest time of 34:30.

The relay champions declared were Team AA (All-Female) composed of Mikaela Arroyo and Boo Pascual, Team Good Boiz (All-Male) composed of Hjalmar Pasaylo and Lorenzo Joaquin Solda, and Team GG (Mixed) composed of Gabriella Venturina and Mark Garin.

Nikko Huelgas, who won the SEA Games gold medals in 2015 and 2017, had high praise for the quality of the design of the race course stating that the lanes in the Olympic-sized swimming pool were spacious while the angular roads around Vermosa provided nice challenge. This was also his first time ever to race in the venue.

Meanwhile, Get Coach’D coach Doray Ellis stated that their team’s preparations, which includes training at Vermosa, paid off nicely as their members won a huge number of awards across different age-groups. For the past two years, their youth athletes developed their racing skills and became more competitive as they grew. Erika Nicole Burgos is a member of their team.

“Despite what has been going on around us, we are very happy with the huge turnout of participants as well as Bike King’s decision to push through with this first race we hosted this year. We are looking forward to hosting this June’s triathlon event and two more aquathlon events in the months to come,” said Vermosa operations manager Andrea Intalan.

The Top 20 finishers of the standard distance contest individual category in the event earned points for the simultaneous Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub Series and the Sun Life Aquathlon Series. The Top Aquathlete per age group will be declared later this year.

In its attempt to reduce the risk of ab COVID-19 outbreak in Muntinlupa City, the City Government through the City Health Office conducted a citywide disinfection of public schools and government buildings as part of its preventive measures.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered the CHO on Tuesday to intensify the cleaning and disinfecting of public schools, including the strengthening of information drive on personal hygiene and cough etiquette, to further lower the risk of spreading the novel corona virus among city residents.

“We cannot be complacent with the recent development of local transmission of COVID-19. In response to the rise of confirmed cases in the country, we have placed our City Health Office, local hospitals, and school administrators on heightened alert to prevent the possible spread of the new strain of coronavirus in Muntinlupa. We are mobilizing the city’s COVID-19 task force to implement measures to ensure the public’s safety and health,” Fresnedi said.

The mayor urged the public to be vigilant and practice proper hygiene, observe proper cough etiquette, and adopt healthy lifestyles to increase body resistance against infections.

Muntinlupa City Health Officer Dra. Teresa Tuliao said the City Government is closely coordinating with the Department of Health and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine regarding the health event and protocols for the referral and transferring of persons under investigation.

Tuliao led an emergency meeting with the City Government’s general service officers, Schools Division of Muntinlupa execs, and school principals for a briefing on COVID-19 updates and the disinfection initiative in public schools.

The city health officer also encouraged the school officials to intensify IEC campaign and reporting of community members with travel history for monitoring. To date, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Muntinlupa City.

Recently, the City Government also called for a meeting with barangay emergency response units, barangay officials and health workers, mall owners, hoteliers, and other commercial establishment owners to discuss the latest updates on COVID-19.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered the creation of Muntinlupa COVID-19 Task Force through Executive Order 2 s. 2020 as a pro-active measure against the spread of the disease in the city. The local task force spearheads the implementation of DOH protocols and guidelines and extends full cooperation with the department and other national government agencies.

The world-class Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus City, Cavite, is ready to welcome back a wide field of participants from around the nation as the Vermosa Aquathlon 1 fires off on the morning of March 8.

In this official launch event of the 2020 editions of the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub Series and the Sun Life Aquathlon Series, participants as young as 7-years-old to adults over the age of 50 will take on age-appropriate race distances when the gun goes off at 6:30 a.m., beginning with a swim in the Olympic-size pool followed by a run around Vermosa and finish at the track oval. The longest course is the standard distance composed of a 500-meter swim and the 5-km run. The shortest course is a 100-meter swim and a 600-meter run for kids aged 7 to 10.

2019 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) gold medalist John Leerams Chicano of Team Apollo Petroleum Jelly and Lyllian Grace Banzon of Team Sante Barley posted the best time finishes among all standard distance competitors during the Apollo Petroleum Jelly TRI 2020 event held recently at the Subic Bay Freeport.

Chicano proved to be untouchable among all the men finishing the standard distance 1.5 Km swim – 40 Km bike – 10 Km run race in 2 hours, 11 minutes and 42 seconds easily winning the 25-29 age-group title. 35-39 champion Ronald Molit came next in 2:23:47 while 18-24 champion Joshua Alexander Ramos was the 3rd fastest with 2:25:00.

Among the ladies in the event presented by Apollo Petroleum Jelly and supported by Cleene, MEDIPLAST , LeGARDE L-Carnitine, Vermosa Sports Hub, Alviera, Clark Global City, Smart, Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Acea Subic Bay and Court Meridian Hotel & Suites, Banzon (30-34 champion) and Ines Santiago (35-39 champion) finished less than a minute apart respectfully timing 2:41:08 and 2:41:59. Amanda Carpo came in next at 2:48:16 winning the 45-49 title.

In the Team Competition, Team Sante Barley emerged as the champion with the best time of 12:44:16. For the relay categories, the champions declared were Maxi Atletika – Zalora 2 (All-Female), Maxi Atletika Multisports D (All-Male), and Fitness First – Salice (Mixed).

Regarding the quality of the event that was also backed by hydration partners Pocari Sweat and Sip Purified Water, timing partner Garmin, shoe partner Saucony and recovery partner Air Relax Massage Guns, Chicano described the race courses as well-crafted. While the persistent wind prevented the heat from wearing him down, the SEA Games gold medalist still found the bike leg a nice challenge because of it. For her part, Sprint Distance 15-19 champion Lauren Plaza confirmed a similar experience regarding the wind’s effect on the bike leg and still she had an enjoyable racing experience and praised the cheering spectators and the race organizers.

“This is our first triathlon race and we are very happy about the large participation as well as the collective positive feedback from the athletes. This event was conceptualized to create a venue for athletes to test their limits while enjoying a chafe-free experience,” Apollo Petroleum Jelly Brand Manager Jamie Reyes-Omorogbe stated.

For the fourth straight year, the City Government of Muntinlupa received the Gawad Jose Rizal Award from the Department of Health (DOH) through the Philippine Blood Center in recognition of the city’s outstanding blood donation program.

The City Government received the prestigious award for blood donation programs during the Dugong Bayani 2019: “Dugong Alay, Ligtas Na Buhay” Awarding Ceremony at Century Park Hotel Manila last February 14.

The award is the highest recognition given by DOH to an organization that conducted mobile blood donation activities and donated more than 2,000 blood units. Every year, DOH recognizes organizations with significant amount of blood unit collections donated to the Philippine Blood Center.

Muntinlupa City was also given the Gawad Bayanihan Award for having the highest blood unit collection among Local Government Units in Metro Manila in 2019.

Receiving the award were Coun. Allan Camilon, CHO chief Dra. Teresa Tuliao, CHO execs Dra. Magdalena Meana, Dr. Juancho Bunyi, and other local officials.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi thanked all city residents who have participated in various mobile blood donations for their unwavering support to the city’s blood donation programs.

The mayor vowed to continue the local government’s initiative in blood donation services. Fresnedi actively participates in local mobile blood donation schedules and is a Blood Galloner for 2015-2016.

With the new developments in the educational assistance program in Muntinlupa City, local students have all the reasons to be motivated and to study hard.

The City Government of Muntinlupa announced that the City Council has approved an ordinance increasing the annual allowance of scholars in the city and cash gifts given to honor graduates and licensure examination top-notchers.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed the City Ordinance No. 2020-054 amending sections of Ordinance 17-107 providing for an expanded Muntinlupa scholarship and educational assistance program and other incentives to students and academic achievers on February 5.

More than 71,000 scholars in Muntinlupa City are set to receive an allowance hike depending on their scholarship category.

Students in elementary, alternative learning system, junior and senior high school will have a P1,000 increase in annual allowance. The allowance of elementary/ALS students is raised from P3,000 to P4,000 per year, while allowance of junior and senior high school students are raised from P4,000 to P5,000 and from P5,000 to P6,000 per year, respectively.

Further, State Universities and Colleges students, including beneficiaries of Continuing Assistance for Reintegrating Students Program, can now receive a maximum incentive of P10,000 per semester. From base allowance of P5,000, college scholars will receive an additional P2,500 for having a GWA of 1.76 to 2.0 or P5,000 for having a GWA of 1.75 or better (or its equivalent grading system).

The City Government also increased cash gifts for its Honor Graduates Incentives Program and Licensure (Bar and Board) Examination Topnotchers.

Cash incentives for latin honor graduates residing in Muntinlupa were raised up to P10,000. Cash gifts for Summa Cum Laude graduates increased from P20,000 to P30,000, while for Magna Cum Laude, it is raised from P15,000 to P20,000. Cum Laude graduates will still receive P10,000.

In addition, the City Government raised the cash gifts given to licensure examination top-notchers by up to P100,000 and introduced a new bracketing system. For Bracket A which include Post Baccalaurate (Bar and Physician Board Examination) passers, Top 1 will receive P200,000, Top 2-5 will have P100,000, while Top 6-10 will get P50,000.

For Bracket B which cover Baccalaurate Degree (PQF Level 6) examination passers, Top 1 will have P100,000, Top 2-5 will have P50,000, while Top 6-10 will get P25,000. While Bracket C – NCIII, NCIV Certifications and Diploma Levels (PQF Level 3-5) topnotchers, Top 1 will receive P30,000, Top 2-5 will have P20,000, while Top 6-10 will get P10,000.

The development in Muntinlupa’s scholarship assistance also include the opening of additional slots for Educational Development of Government Employees (EDGE) program. The EDGE program will be expanded from catering to 20 slots for Undergraduate courses of City Government Employees to opening 50 slots while increasing slots for Graduate and Masteral program from 60 slots to 100 slots for Public School Teachers and 50 slots for City Government Employees.

The Muntinlupa City Council through Education Committee Chairperson Coun. Paty Katy Boncayao recognized the need to increase both the amount of allowances and number of beneficiaries to sustain the rising needs of the students due to inflation and other affecting factors.

Muntinlupa City holds the most number of scholarship program beneficiaries in the country with over 71,000 scholars. The City Government through the Muntinlupa Scholarship Program offers a comprehensive educational assistance program for students in elementary to college, including technical-vocational, graduate school, and for students taking up law and medicine.

Established in 1990, the scholarship program in Muntinlupa City initially catered to college students in local universities including the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, then called Muntinlupa Polytechnic College.

In 2013, under the leadership of Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, the City Government expanded to an inclusive scholarship bracketing as educational assistance was made available for elementary and high school students.

The mayor stressed his commitment to assist city residents in their education through financial assistance and other services. Fresnedi hoped that the scholarship program will inspire students in Muntinlupa to strive for academic excellence and be able to participate in nation building.

Yesterday, the City Government of Muntinlupa announced that there were no PUIs (Persons Under Investigation) for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) within their jurisdiction.

Muntinlupa City Health Officer Dra. Teresa Tuliao said on February 17 that the five PUIs referred in local hospitals tested negative for COVID-19 (video focused on the virus embedded below for your learning) and were already discharged.

“We now have zero cases of PUIs in Muntinlupa City after laboratory samples of all admitted PUIs yielded negative results for COVID-19. The local government of Muntinlupa is strongly coordinating with the Department of Health and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine regarding this health event,” Tuliao added.

The City Government of Muntinlupa called for an emergency stakeholders meeting to discuss the latest updates on the Novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease to barangay emergency response units, barangay officials and health workers, mall owners, hoteliers, and other commercial establishment owners last February 4.

The Muntinlupa City Health Office noted that health facilities in the city are equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections. Local hospitals and medical centers were advised to observe high standard of infection prevention and control in dealing with patients suspected to have contracted with the virus.

The Ospital ng Muntinlupa has installed priority lanes for patients experiencing flu-like symptoms and is equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections.

The Muntinlupa City Health Office distributed 2,000 pieces of 100ml alcohol bottles to city residents and boosted its information drive in combatting the spread of 2019-nCov ARD through the City Government’s Public Information office. The City Government is inspecting emerging Chinese restaurants and coordinates with Chinese establishments as a precautionary measure.

Fresnedi extended his gratitude to USAID for selecting the City of Muntinlupa as one of the Pilot Areas in NCR for the drug rehabilitation project. The local exec said the USAID’s assistance will significantly contribute to the success of the City Government’s drug abuse prevention initiatives.

USAID RenewHealth Project seeks to address drug dependency problem by expanding access to evidence-based and culturally-appropriate community-based drug treatment and recovery (CBDR) services.

For its part, USAID shall provide technical assistance to the City Government personnel in ensuring local CBDR strategies are aligned to service standards provided by the Dangerous Drug Board and other regulations prescribed by the Department of Health (DOH)  and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Barangay workers who serve as coach community facilitators will also be given training for screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment services, including CBDR, and CBDR governance.

USAID RenewHealth project supports the Philippine Anti-illegal Drugs Strategy that calls for a comprehensive and balanced approach to drug supply and demand reduction. It also builds on the Philippine Mental Health law that recognized substance dependence as a mental health issue.

The City Government of Muntinlupa continues to collaborate with various organization to strengthen the local recovery program for drug surrenderees under the Mamamayan at Pamilya Laban sa Droga (MAPALAD), the local community-based response strategy against drug abuse.

The City Government of Muntinlupa had an emergency stakeholders meeting to discuss pro-active steps to prevent the spread of the disease in the city on Tuesday. Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered the City Health Office to conduct a briefing event for emergency response units, barangay officials and health workers, mall owners, hoteliers, and other commercial establishment owners on the latest updates on Wuhan Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease (2019-nCoV ARD). In a clear response to the rising number of persons under investigation (PUI) for possible 2019 novel coronavirus acute respiratory disease (2019-nCoV ARD) and confirmed cases in the country, the City Government of Muntinlupa had an emergency stakeholders meeting to discuss pro-active steps to prevent the spread of the disease in the city.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi ordered the City Health Office this past Tuesday to conduct a briefing event with the Department of Health (DOH) for emergency response units, barangay officials and health workers, mall owners, hoteliers, and other commercial establishment owners on the latest updates on Wuhan Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease.

Fresnedi said that the City Government is closely coordinating with DOH and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine regarding the health event and for the training of health workers on nCov prevention, containment, and control.

In the forum, Muntinlupa City Health Officer Dra. Teresa Tuliao assured that health facilities in the city are equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections.

Tuliao added that hospitals and medical centers in the city were advised to observe high standard of infection prevention and control in dealing with patients suspected to have contracted with the virus.

For its past, the Ospital ng Muntinlupa installed priority lanes for patients experiencing flu-like symptoms and is equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections.

The City Health Office is set to distribute 2,000 pcs of 100ml alcohol bottles to city residents and boost its information drive in combating the spread of 2019-nCov ARD. The City Government is also set to inspect emerging Chinese restaurants and conduct a census of Chinese-nationals in the city as a precautionary measure.

Mayor Fresnedi advised the public to practice proper hygiene, observe proper cough etiquette, and adopt healthy lifestyles to increase body resistance against infections.
