Maynilad’s water reclamation plant in Muntinlupa City to fully operate very soon

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, water concessionaire Maynilad confirmed that its 1.6 billion water reclamation is on track to start fully operating by the end of this year and it will serve more than thirty thousand residents in four barangays in the city, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Maynilad Water Services announced that its water reclamation plant in Muntinlupa is nearing completion and will be fully operational by year-end. 

Built at a cost of P1.6 billion, the Cupang Water Reclamation Facility and sewer conveyance system are located in Barangay Cupang, Muntinlupa.

It said it is now preparing for the testing and commissioning of the facility, which was designed to treat up to 46 million liters of wastewater per day.

The plant uses the conventional activated sludge technology to effectively remove pollutants from wastewater, contributing to a cleaner ecosystem.

When it becomes fully operational, the plant will serve about 33,000 customers in Barangays Sucat, Buli, Cupang, and Bayanan in Muntinlupa. The wastewater from the communities will be treated before it is discharged.

Local hero of Muntinlupa City commended by Mayor Biazon

Recently in the City of Muntinlupa, a man who risked his life to save his young relatives during a fire that destroyed their home was commended by Mayor Ruffy Biazon, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon commended a man for his heroic act of saving his two nephews and a niece from their burning house in Barangay Buli.

A fire hit a residential area in Manatra in Barangay Buli, Muntinlupa on Aug. 19, razing houses and displacing families.

Biazon visited the Buli evacuation center where 58 families or more than 200 individuals are staying. During his visit, Biazon met Freddie whose arms are bandaged due to burns.

According to the mayor, Freddie suffered burns when he rescued his two nephews and a niece–Precious, Vhon and Kerth–from their burning house during the fire. 

He said the three children were trapped inside the comfort room and could not get out.

Precious was attending her online class when the fire erupted and quickly spread. Some of the family members were able to get out of the burning house but Precious and her two cousins were left inside and quickly went to the comfort room.

According to Precious, because of the intense heat, she didn’t know what to do and she seemed to have accepted what would happen to them.

Suddenly, their uncle Freddie arrived and he pulled them out of the burning house. The fire was already big but they all tried to get out.

Precious and her two cousins were very thankful to their Uncle Freddie for saving them and getting out without any injury.

They called their uncle a “superhero” and they are wishing that his burns would heal soon.

“Hanga ako kay Freddie sa kanyang tapang at walang pag-aatubili na pagligtas sa kanyang mga pamangkin. Although may injury, mabuti nakaligtas siya at sina Precious, Vhon, at Kerth (I am truly amazed at Freddie for his bravery and no hesitation to rescue his nephews and niece. Although he has injury, it’s good that he and Precious, Vhon and Kerth safely escaped),” Biazon said.

Over 400 candidates from 9 barangays filed for BSKE COCs in Muntinlupa City

Recently in the progressive City of Muntinlupa, more than four hundred people filed their respective certificates of candidacy (COCs) at the local Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to run in this October’s Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), according to a Manila Bulletin news report which also revealed the city has more than three hundred thousand voters for the barangay contests.

A total of 405 candidates in nine barangays in Muntinlupa filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

“We welcome the participation of qualified Muntinlupeños who wish to lead the local communities through the exercise of our right to vote and through the democratic process. Likewise, we enjoin everyone to cooperate and work together to ensure this year’s polls are reliable, trustworthy, and peaceful,” said Mayor Ruffy Biazon.

Based on Comelec-Muntinlupa’s unofficial list, of the 405 candidates, 24 filed COCs for barangay chairman and 193 for barangay kagawad in Barangays Buli, Putatan, Bayanan, Poblacion, Tunasan, Alabang, Ayala Alabang, Cupang and Sucat.

In addition, 23 candidates filed for the position of SK chairperson and 165 for SK kagawad.

Of the nine barangays, the position of barangay chairman of Ayala Alabang is the only one that is uncontested.

There are 319,654 registered voters for the barangay election and 93,723 registered voters for the SK election in Muntinlupa, based on Comelec-Muntinlupa data.

Recently in the progressive city of Muntinlupa, Mayor Ruffy Biazon advised locals to be careful as the city had back-to-back incidents of fire which left many families homeless, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon advised residents to be careful in light of the successive fire incidents in the city that left more than 100 families homeless.

“From January up until this past week, we have seen more fire incidents even before we have reached March, which is Fire Prevention Month. “We want to remind all Muntinlupeños to be extra vigilant in practicing fire prevention because it is really hard to lose everything in a fire,” he said.

He told the public to “be careful and never leave open flames in the house, like stoves or candles. Let’s work together so we don’t have any more fires like this.”

In just nine days, three fires broke out in residential areas, affecting 112 families in Muntinlupa.

On Feb. 11, a fire engulfed six houses at Hacienda Rosario in Purok 2, Barangay Sucat, affecting 17 families or 53 individuals, according to a report by the Muntinlupa Social Services Department (SSD).

In Barangay Poblacion, a fire hit a residential area on Quezon Street on Feb. 17, razing 19 structures and leaving 49 families, or 181 individuals, homeless.

On Feb. 19, another fire razed 27 structures on Concepcion Road, Barangay Buli, affecting 26 families or 130 individuals.

Biazon called on all households and sectors, including the barangay councils, to work together to prevent or at least reduce the incidence of fire in the city. 

The mayor voiced his concern to Muntinlupeños during his visit on Feb. 20 to the 46 families affected by the February 19 fire on Concepcion Road in Barangay Buli.
