New Life Community Care Feeds and Assists Taal Volcano Eruption Victims

For a period of nine days, the New Life Community Care Foundation International, Inc. (NLCOM) and its personnel worked hard to take special care of the many evacuees of the Taal Volcano Eruption (which happened on January 12, 2020) in the province of Batangas

It was there where the NLCOM’s very own mobile kitchen was set up. With precision, careful management of resources and dedication to help the evacuees, the team behind the mobile kitchen produced several hot meals daily during the nine days feeding a whole lot of evacuees who had no choice but to leave their respective communities behind.

According to NLCOM’s program assistant Thessa Joy Jimenez, a total of 52,000 hot meals were served to the evacuees who came from varied communities affected by the January 12 eruption. Mathematically, the mobile kitchen produced an average of more than 5,600 meals per day (breakfast and dinner specifically). This was made possible by having the sophisticated food preparation equipment and sufficient supplies of food and ingredients collected from their donors. The feeding is just one form of NLCOM’s assistance for the evacuees.

Along the way, their team coordinated closely with the local authorities and helped keep things in order. Their assistance to the evacuees was not limited to feeding as they also provided them with hygiene kits, grocery bags and medical services. They also interacted closely with the local community members with a strong focus on helping. These recent acts were in accordance to the NLCOM’s core approach of Respond-Reach Out-Rebuild.

“During calamities, we organized training for the congregants and the volunteers involved in our foundation. We reached out by doing relief operations, medical missions and the mobile kitchen operation to help those who got affected. We rebuild by means of doing livelihood assistance for them,” Jimenez said during my interview with her at their office.

Behind the scenes, NLCOM responded quickly to the eruption by communicating first with the local authorities in Batangas. At their facility inside Alabang Hills Village, their team organized a huge collection of relief goods and cash from their donors (including churches within New Life’s own network), carefully arranged all the relief goods (which include the sleeping mats, blankets and water to name some) in a very orderly fashion, and piled up all the needed supplies before making the long trips to Batangas. Their team was led by their Executive Director Edwin Tugano.

“Our initial plan for the Taal Volcano eruption operation was to operate for three days which was followed by an extension of two days. This was in response to the local authorities’ request for more assistance,” Jimenez said. “Shortly after, our operation became seven days all of which were in Bauan. After that, our team rested and eventually returned to Batangas to serve other barangays in different evacuation areas for two days. Breakfast meals were provided during those two days.”

Ultimately, the volcano eruption victims were happy with all the assistance they received. Jimenez recalled that after the seventh day, the victims were very thankful to NLCOM and there were some who verbally expressed their love to them.

“They were very thankful and we could tell through their personal expressions and their hugs to us,” she said. “We really saw the positive impact we made to them. It was all a very heartwarming experience for us all. Tiring but very fulfilling.”

Regarding NLCOM’s volunteers, Jimenez said that they consistently orient them with disaster preparedness methods, group assistance and working closely with the victims and local authorities. Then on February 19, NLCOM completed another distribution of relief goods for Taal Volcano eruption victims (four hundred families) in Barangay Barigon, Agoncillo, Batangas. They assessed the homes that were damaged (partially or totally) from the disaster.

To date, New Life Community Care continues to engage with its partners, its own network of churches and outreach units, and the varied local authorities around the nation. For the future, Jimenez confirmed to me that NLCOM is continuing its preparation of provisions for further emergency operations as well as maintaining contact with varied authorities and planning what could be the next step to take for future assistance.

Truly New Life Community Care lives up to its name and has an undeniable record of assistance for those who badly need it.

What is New Life Community Care?

New Life Community Care is a foundation, operating exclusively for charitable and social welfare purposes. While associated with New Life Alabang, it is separate and has an independent board.

New Life Community Care is a non-stock, non-profit organization registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with registration number CN200323699. It is also registered with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) with registration number DSWD-SB-RL-001582015. Their website is at www.nlcom.org.ph

How Did It Start?

It began in 2003 when their Senior Pastor Paul Chase was led to respond to the needs of street children who were abandoned and neglected. The NLCOM eventually partnered with the City Government of Muntinlupa to take care of the said children.

Ten years later, super typhoon Yolanda (internationally referred to as Haiyan) overwhelmed the Philippines very hard, especially the regions south of Luzon. Tacloban City in the province of Leyte got hit so hard, people lost their homes and belongings, their lives got terribly disrupted and there were several casualties. The damage was so immense, Tacloban caught the attention of the whole world.

In response to the disaster, Senior Pastor Paul Chase and some volunteers of the church came to Tacloban to provide much needed help. This resulted the creation of a makeshift kitchen at the said city and went on to produce six thousand hot meals daily for school children there.

You must be wondering: how was New Life’s team able to create such a high number of meals every day back then? The answer is this: New Life Alabang partnered with Rev. Kim Beam Kon of Truly Good Friends Foundation from South Korea. The joint effort resulted a feeding program that lasted for a year and led to the establishment of the New Life Community Care Foundation.

Along the way, Senior Pastor Paul Chase envisioned the local church to stand in the gap, step up to meet the need and demonstrate God’s love by responding, reaching out and rebuilding the lives of families and communities in the event of disasters. In times of disaster, New Life church provides manpower to NLCOM to enable it to assist victims.

The Foundation’s program is structured this way: Respond to the immediate needs of disaster victims by providing food, relief goods, medical services and executing rescue operations. Reach out with their pro-active volunteers who engage in raising awareness and increasing the knowledge and skills of families, churches and communities on preparing them for disasters and teaching them how to respond during those times. Rebuild by helping the victims by means of clearing the debris, providing shelter kit materials and assisting families and the local communities in the repair and reconstruction of the properties that got damaged from the disaster.

Muntinlupa City Health Office records Zero PUI cases for COVID-19

Yesterday, the City Government of Muntinlupa announced that there were no PUIs (Persons Under Investigation) for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) within their jurisdiction.

Muntinlupa City Health Officer Dra. Teresa Tuliao said on February 17 that the five PUIs referred in local hospitals tested negative for COVID-19 (video focused on the virus embedded below for your learning) and were already discharged.

“We now have zero cases of PUIs in Muntinlupa City after laboratory samples of all admitted PUIs yielded negative results for COVID-19. The local government of Muntinlupa is strongly coordinating with the Department of Health and Research Institute for Tropical Medicine regarding this health event,” Tuliao added.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi recently ordered the creation of Muntinlupa 2019-nCoV Task Force through Executive Order 2 s. 2020 as a pro-active measure against the spread of the disease in the city. The local task force spearheads the implementation of DOH protocols and guidelines and extends full cooperation with the department and other national government agencies.

Fresnedi assured the public that the City Government is undertaking actions for the prevention, containment, and control of COVID-19 in Muntinlupa. Further, the mayor advised the public to practice proper hygiene, observe proper cough etiquette, and adopt healthy lifestyles to increase body resistance against infections.

The City Government of Muntinlupa called for an emergency stakeholders meeting to discuss the latest updates on the Novel Coronavirus Acute Respiratory Disease to barangay emergency response units, barangay officials and health workers, mall owners, hoteliers, and other commercial establishment owners last February 4.

The Muntinlupa City Health Office noted that health facilities in the city are equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections. Local hospitals and medical centers were advised to observe high standard of infection prevention and control in dealing with patients suspected to have contracted with the virus.

The Ospital ng Muntinlupa has installed priority lanes for patients experiencing flu-like symptoms and is equipped to respond in emergency situations involving patients with respiratory infections.

The Muntinlupa City Health Office distributed 2,000 pieces of 100ml alcohol bottles to city residents and boosted its information drive in combatting the spread of 2019-nCov ARD through the City Government’s Public Information office. The City Government is inspecting emerging Chinese restaurants and coordinates with Chinese establishments as a precautionary measure.

Muntinlupa City residents are highly encouraged to immediately visit local health centers or Ospital ng Muntinlupa if they are experiencing symptoms of the virus. For more information, the public may coordinate with Ospital ng Muntinlupa at 8771-0457 or with DOH at 771-1001/711-1002.

Alabang Hills Village Implements New Schedule For Passing Through Their Village

Yesterday, the Alabang Hills Village Association (AHVA) implemented the new schedule for passing through their village in Muntinlupa City in relation to the traffic re-routing along the West Service Road by the Skyway.

To put things in perspective, the new schedule is now set at 5AM to 12 midnight daily from February 16 up to April 16. The said schedule specifically applies to non-resident motorists who already secured vehicular stickers from the AHVA. For the newcomers reading this, Alabang Hills Village has gates connecting to the Alabang-Zapote Road, to BF Homes subdivision and the long road leading to the West Service Road.

Going back to the new schedule, the 12 midnight deadline is notable because previously passing through the village (using a vehicle with a valid Alabang Hills sticker) was prohibited by 10PM.

As the Skyway project involving parts of the West Service Road is ongoing, we will see in due time how many vehicles (with valid AHVA stickers) will pass through Alabang Hills Village.

Before closing this, those of you who will visit the village should know that there is a new community store that recently opened at one end of the renovated village facility (where the AHVA office used to be). Here’s a picture of the new store below.

Muntinlupa City Government tells motorists to brace for heavy traffic as Skyway begins construction in West Service Road

Traffic along the highway will only get heavier soon as the City Government of Muntinlupa advised motorists and commuters to get ready for worse traffic as the construction of Skyway Extension Project in West Service Road takes full swing.

Specifically, starting February 16, operator Skyway O&M Corp. and project contractors EEI Corp. and Cadcor Builders and Trading Corp. will break ground in West Service Road from southbound Alabang At-grade Toll Exit to Alabang Hills Subdivision.

“We are scheduled to drill 38 bored piles for eight weeks. Target timetable involves six weeks of construction from Alabang Toll Exit to Alabang Hills and two weeks for the remaining areas up to Sucat Interchange,” Cadcor representative Joselito Fajardo said.

With the construction of Skyway Extension Project, Skyway’s Lane 3 southbound and the northbound lane of West Service Road will be closed.

Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau chief Danidon Nolasco said upon coordination with Skyway, one-way traffic will be implemented from South Station to Alabang Hills Subdivision for southbound while traffic up to Sucat Interchange will remain two-way.

He added that Skyway is set to open a temporary opening near the South Station Exit to allow vehicles to pass through from West Service Road to Alabang Viaduct.

With the anticipated heavy traffic in Muntinlupa, Nolasco asked Skyway executives to augment the City Government’s traffic management efforts especially in choke points including East Service Road, Sucat Interchange, and Alabang Viaduct.

This past January 23, the City Government organized a stakeholders meeting with Skyway execs and representatives of commercial establishments and homeowners associations (HOAs) situated in West Service Road to discuss traffic advisories and construction updates.

Skyway Traffic Operations head Jerry Torres said that southbound Alabang At-grade and Bunye South Station Exits will also be closed starting February 16 until completion of the project. Torres said motorists may take the SLEX Filinvest or Susana Exit Toll Plaza.

For Class 1 and 2 vehicles from Makati headed to Alabang or Alabang-Zapote Road, motorists may take the Filinvest Exit then turn right at Corporate Ave, then right Civic Drive, and right again to Corporate Ave, then turn right to Alabang-Zapote Road towards destination.

For Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles headed to Alabang, Putatan, and National Road, motorists may take the Susana Exit then turn right at Susana Heights Ave, and turn either left or right on National Road to destination.

The Skyway Extension Project is expected to be completed on December 2020.

Taal Volcano Eruption Victims Still Need Our Help

Today, it was announced by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) that the number of families affected by the Taal Volcano eruption (happened on January 12) increased to 104,645. They estimated that in total are 396,731 individuals.

Right now, the victims of the eruption are relying on whatever assistance the local authorities and private donors could provide them. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Health (DOH), the amount of assistance extended to the victims exceeded P80 million.

Regarding where they are staying at, almost forty thousand families are living temporarily in over five hundred thirty evacuation centers.

Muntinlupa Real Property Taxpayers to Receive 10% Discount Upon Timely Payment

The City Government of Muntinlupa announced yesterday the schedule of payment of real property tax in their city for 2020 and also launched its incentives program for RPT payers who will pay on or before quarterly deadline.

Muntinlupa City Treasurer’s Office released the deadline of payment of real property tax on the following dates: March 1, 2020 (1st Installment, Q1), June 30, 2020 (2nd Installment, Q2), September 30, 2020 (3rd Installment, Q3), and December 31, 2020 (4th Installment, Q4).

Taxpayers with no delinquency who shall pay their real property taxes on or before deadlines of payment are entitled to a ten percent (10%) discount.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi lauded this incentive system as it will boost tax revenues for the city to be utilized in various programs and services for the city residents. The mayor said the City Government shifts in being more customer-driven which accelerates public services, bringing ease transactions for the public.

RPT payers in Muntinlupa can also pay their taxes at Muntinlupa Online Real-Property Payment System (MORPS) through the electronic banking system of the Land Bank of the Philippines.

The RPT e-Payment system, first of its kind in Metro Manila, aims to course transaction of its major taxpayers through electronic channels to provide them with efficient and less-time consuming delivery of services.

An interface with MORPS will handle real-time property tax payment and can process transactions in less than 15 minutes. An easy and taxpayer-friendly application for every Muntinlupenos, it targets to speed up the transaction for the convenience of taxpayers and the reduction of red-tape and under-the-table propositions.

Fresnedi encouraged Muntinlupeños to pay their respective bills ahead of time to avoid penalties.

While MCTO introduced the incentive program, it also noted that upon expiration of the periods given, an interest of two percent (2%) per month not exceeding 36 months or 72% shall be imposed upon delinquent properties for failure to pay the basic real property tax or any other tax levied under the Revenue Code.

The City Government of Muntinlupa awarded early taxpayers with incentives and grocery packages for being the first of many who applied and settled their dues in the 2020 Muntinlupa Business Permit Renewal which will run until January 20.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi awarded certificates of recognition and grocery packages to the Top Ten Early Taxpayers in this year’s Business Permit Renewal on January 2. The Top Ten Early Taxpayers were the following: Abraham Tiro (Mama Nene Store), Lani Santos (Lito and Lani Food House), Josielyn Delez (E.J.D. Mini Store), Josephine Dejan (FDA Dejan Construction Services), Cesar Bronola Lastrilla (Mercy Salon), Milagros Salvador (Mila and Noli Scrap Woods), Elizabeth Sabalboro (Beth Sari-Sari Store), Ma. Pinky Lynsey (MPLG Begona Trading), Cynthia Olaes (Cynthia’s Sari-Sari Store), and Cherrie Flores (Mini-Mini Store).

The mayor thanked the business owners for their punctuality in paying their dues and renewing their businesses in the city. Fresnedi also urged other locators to avoid penalties and skip “rush days” of registration nearing the deadline.

The 2020 Business Permit Renewal officially started on the morning of January 2 and will conclude on January 20. Currently, there are 15,708 registered business in the city. The Muntinlupa Business Permits and Licensing Office recorded a significant increase of over 187% in business tax collection over the past seven years.

For the convenience of the taxpayers, a One-Stop Shop arrangement in the Business Permit Renewal Hub has been installed at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Barangay Tunasan. Requirements from Barangay Halls and Regulatory Offices can be acquired in the location of the Renewal as representatives of said agencies will be rendering service simultaneously.

Taxpayers can pay using Debit Cards in the renewal event. Mobile ATMs as well as a Closed-Circuit Television System were also installed across the venue. Business owners registering in the renewal may also access the internet through a free wi-fi connection.

Making matters even more convenient is the shuttle service provided for clients going to the venue. The pick-up points are located at Muntinlupa City Hall Quadrangle in Putatan and Muntinlupa City Public Market in Alabang.

New Skyway Ramp to Open on December 1

Hi everyone! Have you been struggling with the constant heavy traffic along the northbound lane of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) since September due to the construction of a Skyway extension project (planned to reach Susana Heights) within the Alabang viaduct area?

Well here are the good news: effective December 1, 2019, the third lane of the at-grade level of the Skyway will be re-opened and the brand new, two-lane ramp connecting the Alabang viaduct to the elevated Skyway will be opened to the public!

The anticipated developments should result an improvement of the flow of traffic going north.

“These enhancements will ensure that there will be five lanes available to northbound SLEX vehicles during rush hours, even as we go full blast with the construction of the Skyway Extension project. Motorists will be able to use the original three lanes at the at-grade section, plus 2 more lanes at the elevated section,” San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president and chief operating officer Ramon S. Ang said according to the press release.

Due to the construction of the new ramp started this past September, traffic worsened as road space was reduced. What used to be five lanes on the northbound direction of the SLEX at the Alabang viaduct was narrowed down to three lanes. The City Government of Muntinlupa itself implemented a one-way traffic scheme along the east service road in connection to the construction.

Skyway managers made the hard adjustments by reconfiguring and maximizing the first section of the elevated Skyway coming from the Alabang-Zapote road to three lanes, from the original two.

The operators stated that with the new ramp connecting to the elevated section, northbound traffic from SLEX can be accommodated without significantly impacting traffic coming from the Alabang-Zapote road.

It was pointed out that the original design for the Alabang-Zapote road Skyway ramp, built by the previous concessionaire, is one lane northbound and one lane southbound. At certain times in the morning, when traffic is heaviest, both lanes are used for northbound traffic.

As such, they emphasized that the advantage of the new three-lane configuration at the start of the elevated portion is that lane assignments can be easily adjusted depending on traffic volume. Even with the new ramp in effect, motorists coming from the Alabang-Zapote road will retain the use of one to two lanes, depending on traffic volume.

With regards to night-time southbound traffic, which normally gets heavy, more or all lanes—including the two lanes on the new ramp–can be assigned for southbound use.

To put things in perspective, the Skyway Extension project is an initiative by SMC worth P10 billion designed to extend the Skyway from Alabang to SLEX near  Susana Heights and the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX). Completion of the whole project is set for December 2020. By then , there should be three additional northbound lanes and two southbound lanes on either side of the existing SLEX. It will allow both northbound and southbound motorists to bypass the Alabang viaduct.

This is welcome news and there should be relief starting Sunday (December 1).

In my personal experience, I work at an office in Calamba, Laguna and since September 25, traveling back to Alabang became more challenging due to the increased traffic congestion. Many times, the tail-end of the traffic jam going north along SLEX reached the Susana Heights area. Some times, the tail-end was at the Southwoods exit.

We will soon find out starting Monday how the promised benefits of the new Skyway ramp will improve the northbound flow of vehicles.

My Observations: Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 at Madison Galeries

Hey everyone! This morning I made the trip to Madison Galeries in Barangay Cupang, Alabang, Muntinlupa City to visit their Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 activity which was held at their 3rd floor facility. The bazaar, which is my first time to visit and look around, officially opened today and will last until tomorrow (November 24).

Upon entering the Madison Events Place, I saw sections of many kinds of products displayed and waiting to be sold. Already there were lots of people shopping, looking for the best deals and trying to decide which items to buy for their needs or for gift-giving this Christmas.

What caught my attention instantly were the discounted rates on all the products offered. There were these electric fans of varied sizes (from the personal mini-fans to the desk fans) that had these attractive prices. The same can be said about pillows, dolls, tumblers, rice cookers, toys, home appliances, some electronic products and many other times that were displayed.

After looking around initially and carefully analyzing what to choose for Christmas gift-giving (which is the main purpose of my visit today), I finally went ahead choosing five items. Because I did not have a bag, I carefully picked the five items and carried them as I lined up for checkout.

At the cashier, an assistant helped me put the items for checking. I asked if they had a bag I could use to carry them on my way out, and the lady behind the counter said they had one for P25. After agreeing to it, they brought out a really large shopping bag. It was so large, there was still a lot of vacant space inside even though my items were in it. The shopping bag is reusable and I like that!

And so I left Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 feeling happy and satisfied. I achieved my objective of finding some good items for Christmas gift-giving. Now I’ll have to wrap these items.

For those of you reading this, I highly recommend going to Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 at Madison Galeries ASAP if you really have to shop for your needs or for your Christmas gift-giving plans. Tomorrow is the last day already! Today was my first time ever to attend a Mardi Gras Bazaar at the Alabang shopping mall, and it was a good experience.

Oh yes, I should mention that Madison Galeries has a very nice looking Christmas tree at the ground floor that you should see. Really nice for picture taking!

Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 at Madison Galeries on November 23 and 24

Hey everyone. Madison Galeries in Barangay Cupang, Alabang, Muntinlupa City will be the place to be at for shopping as they will be organizing the Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 on November 23 and 24, 2019.

Mardi Gras Bazaar 3 will take place at the Madison Events Place at the 3rd level of the open-air mall. It is the same air-conditioned, indoor venue where the successful Village Food Fair 2 was held and this means shoppers can go around looking for goods to buy in comfort. The hours for the bazaar is from 10AM to 9PM on each day.

The bazaar organizers promised that there will be a discount of up to 80% off on what they described to be a huge selection of toys, house ware, gadgets, accessories, gift items and other things that could suit your needs or your Christmas shopping goals.

For the newcomers reading this, Madison Galeries is located along Don Jesus Boulevard between Alabang Hills Village and the West Service Road in Muntinlupa City. BF Homes residents who intend to go to the mall without using the service road can pass through Alabang Hills Village provided that their vehicles have valid non-resident car stickers issued by the Alabang Hills Village Association.
