Eight suspects arrested and over P40,000 worth of illegal drugs confiscated in ParaƱaque City

As Christmas is nearing and slowly bringing families together, drug-related arrests took place yet again in the city of ParaƱaque recently as reported by the Manila Bulletin. This is the result of separate operations that took place last week in the city.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the report of the Manila Bulletin. Some parts in boldface…

Eight drug suspects were arrested by the Paranaque City police in separate operations conducted on Thursday (Dec. 9) and confiscated P40,800 worth of shabu.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg said the suspects arrested during a buy-bust operation were identified as Armando Tamayo, 53; Mark Anthony Manaois Pabua, 28; Edmundo Virtudazo Cahoy, 40; Arsenio Salvador Manaois, 40; Mona Donaisa Mangudadatu, 39; all residents of Paranaque City; and Geraldo Noveda Rivera, 40, of Salinas 4, Bacoor Cavite.

Two other suspects were arrested by the police in an earlier operation for sniffing shabu inside a shanty along Father St., Barangay Baclaran. They were identified as Carlito Velaso, 27, and Angelo Mactal, 26.

Macaraeg said the six suspects were arrested during a buy-bust operation conducted by members of the Station Drug Enforcement (SDEU) Unit at about 7:00 p.m. along Sampaguita St., Tramo I, Barangay San Dionisio, Paranaque City.

He said confiscated from the six suspects were six grams of shabu amounting to P40,800 which were turned over to the SPD Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Do you believe that ParaƱaque City will remain a hot spot for illegal drugs and arrests in the long term? Do you think that crooks and drug smugglers/pushers will somehow disrupt the Christmas season in the city?

Better than Streaming: SM Cinema is reopening nationwide!

Welcome back, fellow geeks and movie buffs! If you are present here in the Philippines and you really crave for watching movies inside the cinema, then you will be happy to know that major cinema operator SM Cinema is gradually reopening its cinemas around the nation complete with safety measures related to COVID-19 (note: SM Cinema has been certified by the Safety Seal program) and the stuff that people enjoy watching inside an SM-operated movie theater.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from SMSupermalls.com. Some parts in boldface…

First to reopen is SM Cinema Aura Premier on November 17, Wednesday. The newly redeveloped theaters at SM Cinema North EDSAMall of Asia and Megamall will be reopening on November 24, while SM Cinema Grand Central, the newest SM Cinema branch, will be on November 26. SM Cinema FairviewSouthmall, Manila, BF ParaƱaque, Clark, San Lazaro, Baguio, DasmariƱas, Sta. Rosa, Sucat, Sta Mesa, and Bicutan will reopen to the public on November 30.

As one of the first establishments to acquire a Safety Seal, SM remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of their mallgoers. SM Cinema, in partnership with Hygiea Innovations and Technology, Inc, have installed MERV filters and air purifiers to ensure safe and clean cinema for everyone. A health and safety officer will be present for every screening while movie theaters will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized regularly. SM Cinema employees are fully vaccinated and will be at your service in full PPE gear.

Before you head off to the cinemas with the entire family in tow, take note of these important reminders:

  • Safety protocols will be strictly implemented within the cinemas.
  • Moviegoers, from adults to kids, must be fully vaccinated to be allowed inside the cinemas.
  • They must also wear well-fitted face masks at all times and face shields are non-mandatory and voluntary. A health declaration must be presented upon ticket purchase.
  • Temperature and symptoms will be checked upon mall entry

SM Cinema is making every step of the theatergoing experience as contactless as possible to give customers what they’re ultimately looking for these days – a safe and clean environment. Reopened SM Cinemas will have capacity restrictions to allow customers to social distance one seat apart from each other. Bringing of food inside will be prohibited for now, although drinking water will be allowed in consideration of possible emergencies and health risks. Audiences will be asked to remain in their seats during the duration of the movie, and cashless payment options will be available via GrabPay, GCash, or credit or debit card.

With a wide selection of movies genres perfect for both adults and kids, much anticipated films like Marvel Studios’ ā€œShang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,ā€ ā€œEternals,ā€ ā€œVenom: Let There Be Carnage,ā€ ā€œResident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City,ā€ and ā€œNo Time To Die;ā€ are just some of the movies waiting for cinephiles at SM Cinemas!

K-Pop fans will also have ā€œBlack Pink The Movieā€ and Monsta X: The Dreaming to look forward to, and Pinoys can get their fill of local movies like ā€œEncantoā€ and ā€œKunwari Mahal Kita,ā€ which will premiere starting November 24. Plus, the Metro Manila Film Festival will run from December 25 to January 7, 2022, with more Filipino movies to enjoy!

Given how dedicated SM Supermall and SM Cinema really are when it comes quality, sanitation and efficiency, it comes to no surprise that no expense was spared to make SM Cinema branches safe and the best they could be during this time of pandemic. The cinema workforce is fully vaccinated and they have the equipment needed to sanitize the movie theaters and keep it safe for incoming moviegoers.

For the newcomers reading this, cinemas in Metro Manila officially reopened on November 10 in relation to the easing restrictions as the daily count of new COVID-19 infections nationwide fell down dramatically. With the lessening restrictions, more people are allowed to go out and more businesses were given more freedom to accommodate more customers (both indoor and outdoor depending on the locations of their respective joints). Movie theaters or cinemas are obviously part of the businesses and now is the time for them to cater to people who want to experience once again the greatness of watching movies on the big screen which is something that streaming movies or TV shows at home can never match.

There are also other advantages that cinemas have over those streaming apps such as premium seating (note: SM Cinema has the Director’s Club line that offers extraordinary cinema comfort with leather seats, in-house butler service, and an exclusive food menu for guests), technologically advanced big-screen technologies (examples: IMAX, 3D and 4D) and premium sound systems (note: Netflix, HBO Go, HBO Max, Disney+ and all other streaming apps really have nothing to offer when it comes to top-notch audio.)

For those of you who really have decided to return to cinemas for your movie viewing pleasure, remember that what you pay for will not only help the cinema operators but also contribute to the economic recovery our nation badly needs to rise from this COVID-19 crisis. The money you pay for streaming services really do not help at all.

Once again, I encourage you all to take time out to support local cinemas with your family members or your friends. The cinema viewing experience is always better than streaming!

Illegal fish structures in ParaƱaque City targeted by DENR

In the city of ParaƱaque, specifically on the waters of the Manila Bay zone, the illegal fish structures became the topic of interest for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) which called out to the owners to have their structures dismantled.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Philippine News Agency (PNA) news report. Some parts in boldface…

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is urging owners of illegal fish structures in Manila Bay waters off ParaƱaque City to voluntarily dismantle these already.

Removing such structures will help reduce navigational hazards in Manila Bay and is aligned with the 2008 Supreme Court order which seeks to make this water body fit again for contact recreation, noted DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda.

“We’re calling on owners of the structures, maybe you can already self-dismantle these instead of the government doing the work,” he said at a virtual press conference late Tuesday afternoon.

He noted self-dismantling will enable the owners to somehow recover materials they used in building the structures. That would not be possible if government undertakes the dismantling, he continued.

Last week, Antiporda said authorities have spotted about eight fish structures off the waters of ParaƱaque. Each of those structures covered an area of almost one hectare, he noted.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Were you able to spot any illegal fish structure within ParaƱaque City? Apart from being a hot spot for crime and drug-bust operations, do you think ParaƱaque is already a hot spot for illegal fish structures? Could there be a lot more of them than what the DENR has seen?

Beware of the ā€œlaglag-plakaā€ gang as they victimized motorists in ParaƱaque and Muntinlupa

Wherever you park your vehicles, be defensive and avoid people knocking on your window as two motorists in different cities here in South Metro Manila were victimized by a gang of thieves who executed what is referred to as the ā€œlaglag-plakaā€ (dropped plate) modus, according to a recent news report by GMA Network.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Tagalog GMA Network news report which was translated into English using Google Translate. Some parts in boldface…

Two drivers fell victim to the plaque-dropped modus operandi of thieves in Muntinlupa and ParaƱaque, Jonathan Andal reported in Unang Balita on Friday.

CCTV footage shows a man standing in the back of an SUV parked in front of a fast food chain in ParaƱaque. Three women with umbrellas followed him.

Although (it) could not (be seen on) the CCTV, the man knocked on the driver of the SUV and said that his license plate had fallen on the back.

While the driver was not yet leaving, a man was waiting in the back of a vehicle (parked beside) and when he saw the driver coming out, he quickly opened the passenger door.

The driver’s bag was stolen and handed over to a female colleague. The group quickly speared while the driver was left in the back of the vehicle and checked to see if his license plate had really fallen.

The group seized an expensive bag, wallet and 20,000 pesos, according to the report.

According to ParaƱaque Police, this modus operandi is called “laglag plaka”. The group allegedly was timing the vehicles and told the driver that something had fallen in the back of the vehicle.

Seven individuals were found conspiring in the modus and they use umbrellas to hide from people what they are doing.

After the incident in ParaƱaque, CCTV also captured the group in the parking lot of a building in Muntinlupa where they stole the victim’s gym bag and expensive earphones.

According to the victims, when they got out of the vehicle there were coins. They think they put them in to confuse and hold them back while removing the drivers ’valuables.

For added insight, watch this related news video below…

So there you have it! The ā€œlaglag-plakaā€ thieves work together as a group using strategic moves like distraction, careful timing, and taking advantage of unlocked vehicle doors to open and steal the valuables while the distracted driver checks the rear of the vehicle to see if the plate was indeed loose or had fallen off. It should be noted that the other gang members use umbrellas standing next to each other near the victim’s vehicle to conceal their act.

From a visual standpoint, I would find it suspicious to see at least three individuals each using an umbrella at the parking lot while it is not even raining. As for the parking area itself, if a person approaches your vehicle and he or she is not even a legitimate worker of the local administration assigned to the parking, better be defensive and watch not only your back but also the sides of your vehicle.

For your own safety, be mindful of people who approach you and knock on your vehicle’s window shortly after parking. Better not let these thieves distract you no matter what they do and always LOCK YOUR VEHICLE’S DOORS as soon you get off.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Are you a victim of the ā€œlaglag-plakaā€ gang?

You may answer in the comments below. If you prefer to answer privately, you may do so by sending me a direct message online.

Man arrested at Ipil Site, Barangay BF Homes, ParaƱaque City for possession of illegal drugs

The Manila Bulletin recently published a news report about the arrest of a suspect that happened within Barangay BF Homes in ParaƱaque City. The catch here is that the suspect was initially apprehended for violating face mask rules only to be discovered to possess illegal drugs worth hundreds of thousands of Pesos. This is the third consecutive drug-related crime report set within ParaƱaque City (note: click here and here) published this month.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

A cellphone technician initially apprehended for not wearing a face mask was found in possession of P340,000 worth of shabu in Paranaque City on Thursday night.

Col. Maximo Sebastian, the city police chief, said the suspect identified as Angelo Bartolay, 32, was apprehended at about 6:20 p.m. at Ipil Site, Delarama Compound, BF Homes, Paranaque City.

Sebastian said patrol cops were conducting ā€œOplan Galugadā€ and implementing the health and safety protocols when they spotted the suspect aimlessly roaming around without a face mask.

He said the cops called the attention of the suspect, but the latter tried to escape.

The police cornered him but he became unruly when he was being issued with a citation ticket. He was brought to the Paranaque City Police Station.

The above report ended stating that the police recovered fifty grams of shabu.

Two suspects arrested over P1.3 million worth of illegal drugs in ParaƱaque City

Recently in ParaƱaque City, another buy-bust operation organized by law enforcers resulted the arrest of two persons and the confiscation of illegal substances worth over a million pesos according to a news report published by the Manila Bulletin. The arrest happened on the evening of October 13 within the jurisdiction of Barangay San Antonio.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin’s news report. Some parts in boldface…

An online seller and her cohort were arrested after they yielded some P1.3 million worth of shabu during a police buy-bust operation in Paranaque City, Wednesday night.

Southern Police District (SPD) director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg identified the suspects as Hanan Tampipi, 19, an online seller and resident of San Pedro, Laguna; and Norayna Nanding, 19, of Paranaque City.

Operatives from the SPD-District Drug Enforcement Unit (DDEU), Muntinlupa and Paranaque Police Stations launched an entrapment operation against the two suspects at about 6 p.m. in Barangay San Antonio.

Macaraeg said the two women were cuffed after they sold about 200 grams of shabu in six transparent sachets to a poseur-buyer.
