Las Piñas City a model for the Municipality of Lingig

In the City of Las Piñas, officials of the Municipality of Lingig (Surigao del Sur) led by their mayor Elmer Evangelio were hosted by the City Government. The result of the visit convinced Lingig to emulate Las Piñas City on governance, according to a Manila Standard news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Standard report. Some parts in boldface…

Local officials of Lingig town in Surigao del Sur have hinted they would emulate Las Piñas City as a role model for best practices in good governance.

Lingig Mayor Elmer Evangelio and other local officials of the town recently visited Las Piñas and were amazed with the hospitality afforded them by Mayor Imelda Aguilar and Vice Mayor April Aguilar.

During the benchmarking held at the Excelsior Hotel last Friday, Evangelio and his team were also impressed with the presentation made by the Las Pinas City government in demonstrating its successfully implemented practices making Las Piñas a progressive and safe place to live in.

During the event, the local government presented the city’s 4K Programs (Kalusugan, Kalinisan, Kaayusan and Kaalaman) being implemented under the Aguilar administration to deliver better services to the people.

Under the Kalusugan program, the city government enforces a green card program being distributed to residents for their medication and hospitalization; vaccination for children, and free cataract surgery.

With this program, the city was recognized by the Department of Health for its outstanding performance in surpassing the 96 percent target wherein the number of vaccinated children reached 106 percent.

The Kalinisan program, on the other hand, has the clean and green project and the proper disposal solid waste in order to maintain cleanliness in the city.

The local government also received the Safe City Award on August 9 based on the outstanding performance of the local police that made Las Pinas a city with the least crime volume.

Mayor Aguilar disclosed that the city’s police force also recorded the highest number of arrested suspects for committed crimes.

She said law enforcers made the city a “safer” place to live in Metro Manila because of the police visibility and the conduct of checkpoints in coordination with community leaders.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a Las Piñas City resident, what is your reaction to this recent development? Are you happy that your city proved to be a role model for municipalities from far-away provinces such as the Municipality of Lingig?

Deadline for payment of business permits and licenses in Las Piñas City extended to March 31, 2022

If you are running a business in Las Piñas City and you need more time to settle your dues with the City Government, then you should be delighted to know that the deadline for paying business permits, licenses, taxes, fees and charges has been extended all the way to March 31, 2022 as a result of a move done by the City Council with the approval of Mayor Imelda Aguilar, according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the excerpt from the Manila Bulletin report. Some parts in boldface…

The Las Pinas City Council, headed by Vice-Mayor April Aguilar, has extended the deadline for the payment of business permits, licenses, taxes and other commercial and industrial fees and charges until March 31 without interests, penalties, and surcharges.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar immediately signed the resolution passed and approved by the City Council to give local businesses relief, ease their burden, and help them to recover from the severe effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aguilar endorsed the letter of Wilfredo Gaerlan, chief of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), requesting for the extension of the deadline of the payment of business permit and licenses.

The vice-mayor, upon receiving the endorsement of the mayor, convened the City Council to pass a resolution after learning of the decrease in business permit and license renewal due to the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) due to the Omicron variant.

The City Council heeded the call of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) for local government units to extend the period of renewal of business permits and payment of real property tax until the end of the first quarter given the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are managing a business in Las Piñas City, what is your reaction to this recent development? How helpful is the extension for you and your business?

COVID-19 Crisis: Las Piñas City government releases 150,000 Noche Buena packages

In time for Christmas, the City Government of Las Piñas distributed one hundred and fifty thousand Noche Buena packages to specific constituents, according to Manila Bulletin news report. It should be recalled that months ago, Mayor Imelda Aguilar stated that her administration wants Christmas in the city to be joyful (in relation to getting vaccinated for COVID-19) and this latest move by the City Government is an extension of that.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin news report. Some parts in boldface…

The Las Pinas City government distributed 150,000 Noche Buena packages to senior citizens, persons with disability (PWds), and indigent families in the city.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the tickets for “Pamaskong Handog” of the local government were already allocated to the 20 barangays in the city since Dec. 18.

Aguilar said the city government aims to finish the distribution of “Pamaskong Hadog” tickets on Wednesday, Dec. 22, so that the beneficiaries will have something to prepare and eat on Christmas eve.

She said it’s been the city’s annual tradition to distribute “Pamaskong Handog” to senior citizens, PWDs and indigent families.

I want all Las Piñeros to have something on their table in celebration of Christmas. In our own little way, the city government can make them happy and celebrate a joyful Christmas,” Aguilar said.

Vice-Mayor April Aguilar has been visiting barangays in the city to ensure the orderly and timely distribution of the Noche Buena packages.

The above report ended stating that each Noche Buena package comes with spaghetti noodles and sauce, condensed milk, fruit cocktail, and three kilograms of rice grain.

Apart from encouraging local residents to get vaccinated, the overall count of vaccinations in the city has surpassed the 1,000,000 mark and the number of local active COVID-19 cases went down. There is still the potential threat of the Omicron variant which is present here in the Philippines and no less than President Rodrigo Duterte expressed worry about coming up with the funds to deal with it. While people in Metro Manila are enjoying the freedom to move around under the Alert Level 2 status (much less restrictions compared to Alert Levels 3 and 4), there is still the need to be cautious and follow health protocols.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a resident of Las Piñas City, what is your reaction to this recent development? Are you confident that Christmas in your city will be more joyful this year? If you have not been vaccinated, do you plan to get vaccinated during the holidays?
