COVID-19 Crisis: Half of 40 million incoming Pfizer vaccines to be used on minors

The national government announced yesterday that half of the incoming 40 million COVID-19 vaccines of Pfizer will be used to immunize minors, specifically those aged 12 to 15-years-old. It should be noted that Pfizer vaccines made a tremendous positive difference for Israel.

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Philippine News Agency (PNA) article. Some parts in boldface…

Half of the 40 million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines that the Philippine government secured will be used for children under the 12 to 15 age bracket, vaccine czar and National Task Force against Covid-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said Sunday.

Pfizer and the government signed on Saturday a supply agreement for 40 million doses of vaccines to be delivered by the third and fourth quarter of 2021.

“Our original plan is to have only 15 to 25 (million) but considering that we are only opening up the vaccination for children like in Europe and also in the United States and Israel, we are anticipating that we have to program or we have to prepare for that,” Galvez told reporters in an interview.

Once the expert panel gives a go signal and guidelines have been issued, Galvez said the government would start vaccinating those in the said age bracket.

“Once we have already their approval for most vaccines to be used on children and once the DOH makes the guidelines, we will do,” he assured.

With the signing of the Pfizer supply deal, Galvez is confident that the country will be able to achieve its targeted 184 million doses of Covid-19 shots before the year ends.

As of June 19, the country has received a total of 14,205,870 doses of shots manufactured by Sinovac, Sputnik, Pfizer, and AstraZeneca both through procurement and donations.

Considering the situation of the Philippines under this COVID-19 pandemic, it is crucial for minors to get vaccinated and the parents will have to decide whether to avail of the free vaccines or not. By today’s standards, learning in schools is drastically different for the youth aged 12 to 15-years-old, and that is many millions of students in the country.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: Do you agree with the national government’s move to secure half of the incoming 40 million Pfizer vaccines to be used on minors? If you are a parent of a child aged 12 to 15, are you willing to have your child vaccinated?

COVID-19 Crisis: A5 indigent residents in Muntinlupa urged to register for vaccination

As the City Government of Muntinlupa launched the rollout of vaccination for the A5 priority group or indigent residents, qualified individuals are urged to register online or through their community leaders.

Indigent residents may register online through Muntinlupa COVID Vaccination (MunCoVac) www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac to receive a schedule in one of the city’s vaccination sites.

Those who do not have access to online registration may opt to manually register through their barangays, homeowner’s associations, purok leaders, and other organizations in the community.

The City Government of Muntinlupa has started inoculating indigent residents last June 17. Muntinlupa LGU clarifies that the A5 priority group is not exclusive for the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi signed Executive Order No. 19 s. 2021 providing guidelines in the administration of COVID-19 vaccines among all qualified segments of the population under the category A5.

Under EO 19 s. 2021, the Social Services Department (SSD) shall take the lead in the identification of qualified residents including 4Ps members and marginalized sectors together with the Urban Poor Affairs Office (UPAO) and City Planning Development Office (CPDO). Other economically-vulnerable sections of the city shall also be identified and encouraged to sign up in the city’s COVID-19 Vaccination Registration System.

Requirements for the members of the A5 priority group include a Valid ID or Barangay Certificate as proof of residency in Muntinlupa, and 4Ps ID or Certificate of Indigency from Muntinlupa SSD.

While the City Government has identified mega-vaccination sites, the City Health Office may open and operate vaccination sites that are closer and more accessible to the members of the A5 priority group for a limited period of time.

Further, Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Muntinlupa for deployment within the next four months are advised to coordinate with MunCoVac to be prioritized under the A1 priority group. OFWs may contact the following the numbers for scheduling: 09563589228 / 09158055932 / 09605885935 / 09605885937 / 0998-2494580.

Requirements that will be asked from the qualified OFWs include a Valid ID with Muntinlupa address and latest verified employment contract such as overseas employment contract or seaman’s contract, among others.

As of June 17, there are 123,177 vaccines deployed in Muntinlupa, of which 95,832 are first dose and 27,345 are of second dose.

For more information and inquiries, visit the MunCoVac Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/MunCoVac or send a message to MunCoVac hotline numbers at 0956 358 9228 / 0915 805 5932 / 0960 588 5935 / 0960 588 5937 / 0998 249 4580.

COVID-19 Crisis: 136,000+ Las Piñas residents vaccinated (as of June 14, 2021)

According to a news report by the Manila Bulletin, the local COVID-19 vaccination program of Las Piñas City has been picking up (citing Las Piñas City Representative and House Deputy Speaker Camille Villar) as over 136,000 residents have been vaccinated as of June 14, 2021. It should be noted that Representative Villar initiated an incentive program to encourage city residents to get vaccinated and the number of local residents vaccinated exceeded the 100,000 mark recently.

For relevance, watch this news video that involves Representative Villar and her program…

To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the Manila Bulletin’s report. Some parts in boldface…

Citing the latest data from the City Health Office, Deputy Speaker and Las Piñas City Camille Villar said the vaccination program in the city has continued to pick up.

Villar said that as of June 14, 136,733 of the city’s population have already received the jab. The city has a population of nearly 600,000, it was learned.

“We continue to encourage our kababayans to get themselves vaccinated to help protect them against COVID-19 and the threats of new variants,” said Villar.

The health office said there has been a 35.3% increase from the 101,059 total administered doses on June 8.

Further, 102,742 people have been vaccinated with a first dose, a 45.2% jump from 70,770 a week ago. Those vaccinated with the second dose rose by 12.2% to 33,991 from 30,289.

The local government started vaccinating economic frontliners or those under the A4 priority group last week as more vaccines are being deployed.

“These figures represent our relentless efforts toward reminding everyone about the positive effects of vaccination which gives full protection to everyone,” said the House leader.

Villar, who started a vaccine incentive program dubbed “May Bahay sa Bakuna” to boost inoculation rates within her constituency, also expressed gratitude to everyone who came forward in various vaccination sites which may have resulted in lower infection rates.

In other local developments, Robinsons Place Las Piñas along Alabang-Zapote Road became the city’s 18th vaccination site. Also the City Government announced a 4th method to help local residents get registered by means of using an app. See the visual references below.

Any Las Piñas resident who has yet to get registered for free COVID-19 vaccines can learn the ways (4 methods) by clicking here. Anyone who is ready and willing to register online can click bit.ly/LasPiñasVaccination

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are an unvaccinated Las Piñas resident, does Congresswoman Villar’s incentive program convince you to come out, get registered and line up for the free COVID-19 vaccine in your city? Are the house, consumable goods and motorcycles offered through said program very enticing to you personally? Knowing that a new method of registration is now in effect, does this encourage you to get registered?

If you are still unwilling to get vaccinated, what exactly are you afraid of? Do you have a phobia of needles? Did you hear too much about the potential side effects of the vaccines? Are you too scared to get out of your home because of COVID-19?

How exactly do you want your local officials to help you?

COVID-19 Crisis: Parañaque City classified by DOH as a high-risk area

Have you been practicing caution there in Parañaque? Were there people around you who moved around without wearing a face mask or face shield? Did you find yourself caught in the middle of a thick crowd of people in the city lately?

Well, now is a good time to focus more on meeting the local health protocols because the Department of Health (DOH) has classified the cities of Pasay and Parañaque as high-risk areas for COVID-19 according to a news report by GMA Network News.

For this post, we will focus more on Parañaque as it counts as a city of South Metro Manila. To put things in perspective, posted below is an excerpt from the news report. Some parts in boldface…

The cities of Parañaque and Pasay have been classified as high-risk areas for COVID-19 due to their increasing cases and high average daily attack rate (ADAR), the Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday.

Data from DOH Epidemiology Bureau director Dr. Alethea De Guzman showed that only three cities in Metro Manila posted a positive case growth rate during May 30 to June 12: Parañaque (2%), Pasay (19%), and Malabon (30%).

Parañaque’s ADAR over the same period was high risk at 9.09 cases per 100,000 population, higher than the DOH threshold of seven cases per 100,000, while the city’s intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rate stood in the moderate risk category at 62.5%.

And here is a related news video…

What could be the factors that caused Parañaque’s ADAR to hit 9.09 per 100,000 people? It’s hard to determine at this point but there is a possibility that the huge crowd and long lines of people at the May 17 Pfizer launch held at a certain shopping mall in Parañaque might have added to the ADAR (for the period of May 30 to June 12) somehow.

Of course, the news media cannot cover everything that happens around the city. What if local health protocols were violated/disregarded within the local communities by individuals who stopped being careful? Or imagine a squatter or a street beggar approaching others in public while not practicing caution.

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are living in Parañaque City, do you believe that the local vaccination organizers are doing a good job serving or assisting the patients? Each time you travel through the city, how many people did you notice did not wear face masks or face shields in public? Do you think that the City Government of Parañaque and its health personnel can do something to make the city safer from COVID-19 infections?

The transportation secretary said he personally witnessed the efficient system in vaccination centers in the city as he recently completed his 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Ayala Malls South Park, Alabang under the A2 priority group (senior citizen).

“Maayos ang sistema at properly trained ang mga nagtuturok ng bakuna. Isa ang Muntinlupa sa mga nag-improve na LGU sa Metro Manila pagdating sa pagbabakuna,” said DOTr Sec. Tugade.

Recently, the City Government has recorded the highest number of vaccinations with over 5,450 individuals who were vaccinated with their first dose last June 10. It is the highest record since the rollout of vaccination in Muntinlupa last March.

Further, Sec. Tugade also committed to help the city by personally requesting for more vaccine supply and its speedy delivery from the national government as the demand for vaccines in Muntinlupa continue to rise.

As of June 11, the total vaccines deployed in the city is at 106,819, of which 80,356 were given as 1st dose and 26,463 for 2nd dose. There are already 159,490 registered individuals in the city’s COVID-19 vaccine registration system MunCoVac, which comprises 41.3% of the target population to be vaccinated.

The City Government urges residents and other qualified individuals who are not yet registered in the city’s online COVID-19 Vaccination Registration System to sign-up via www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac.

As a result of the local vaccination efforts, the Muntinlupa City Health Office has recorded a decrease in COVID-19 cases. As of June 14, there are only 489 active cases in the city, with 12,550 recoveries, 357 reported deaths, 99 suspect cases, 1,443 probable cases, and 13,396 confirmed cases.

COVID-19 Crisis: 30,518 Las Piñas City residents fully vaccinated

How many residents in your locality successfully got vaccinated for COVID-19 with two doses? Over in Las Piñas City, it was reported by the Manila Bulletin (citing the City Government and the local health office’s COVID-19 statistics as of June 10, 2021) that 30,518 residents have been fully vaccinated (injected with two doses). Take note that it was only days ago when the grand total of city residents vaccinated exceeded the 100,000 mark.

You must be wondering – what are the breakdowns? To make things clear, here is an excerpt from the news report. Some parts in boldface…

A total of 30,518 Las Pinas City residents are now fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The Las Pinas City government announced on its Facebook page that a total of 13,749 senior citizens and 12,803 adults with comorbidities have already been fully vaccinated.

Out of the 5,322 health care frontliners, 1,885 have yet to receive their second dose of the vaccine.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar appealed to the city residents to finish their second dose to get maximum protection against COVID-19.

Aguilar, however, said that even if they are fully vaccinated, the residents should still follow the standard health protocols.

She also asked the city residents to be part of the “Ligtas na Las Pinero, Lahat Bakunado” vaccination program.

Records show that a total of 82,234 individuals in the city have already had their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The above report ended with statistics showing that 6,837 patients under the A4 category have been vaccinated and among them are 529 who have been fully vaccinated. It is good to see that the local number of A4 patients vaccinated has quickly reached in the thousands already. That’s impressive as it was only last week that A4 patients vaccination started. The A4 patients vaccination is crucial to the local and national economy as that group includes most of the workers who are essential to the many businesses already struggling during this pandemic.

Below for your reference is the city health office’s statistics and breakdowns accurate as of June 10, 2021.

Official statistics as of June 10, 2021.

Aguilar ordered the team to immediately start inspecting business establishments around the city on June 11 for the issuance of the safety seal certification.

She said the inspection was in line with the joint memorandum circular issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Tourism (DOT), and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to ensure that all business establishment in the city will follow minimum public health standard as imposed by the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease.

The mayor said the inspection and certification team was created to ensure that businesses around the city were following the minimum health standard to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and future surge.

Aguilar ordered the team to conduct inspections in malls, wet markets, retail stores, restaurants outside hotels or resorts, fastfood, eateries, coffee shops, car wash, laundry shops, banks, among others.

The above report ended stating that Mayor Aguilar wants the new team to regularly monitor the establishments using the checklist related to the safety seal certification. In a sense, this a new wave of regulation by the City Government on businesses and I should state that Las Piñas City has many businesses of all sizes all throughout its jurisdiction. Just drive along Alabang-Zapote Road coming from Alabang to SM Southmall and you will see so many commercial joints all the way between. And then there is the rest of Las Piñas where businesses are scattered at (examples: Marcos Alvarez Avenue, CAA Road, Tropical Avenue, BF Resort Drive, Gloria Diaz street).

To put things in perspective, the safety seal certification was emphasized in a ceremony in SM City Sucat in Parañaque City this past May which was attended by  Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya.

Businesses aside, people still need to do their part in overcoming the pandemic by getting vaccinated. To get vaccinated, registering with the local authorities goes first. Already over 100,000 Las Piñas residents of have been vaccinated.

Any Las Piñas resident who has yet to get registered for free COVID-19 vaccines can learn the ways (3 methods) by clicking here. Anyone who is ready and willing to register online can click bit.ly/LasPiñasVaccination

Let me end this piece by asking you readers: If you are a business owner in Las Piñas, have you applied for the safety seal certification program already? Does the new team formed by the City Government for inspection sound challenging to your business? Also, are all of your employees been vaccinated for COVID-19?
