Muntinlupa LDRRM council prepares for Tropical Storm Dante

As Tropical Storm Dante moves northwestward towards Luzon, Muntinlupa City Mayor Jaime Fresnedi convened the Local Disaster Risk Response and Management (LDRRM) Council to discuss preparation and response efforts.

The mayor presided the LDRRM council meeting yesterday and ordered barangay chairmen to prepare for the preemptive evacuation of residents in danger-prone areas and implement disaster risk response protocols. He also ordered the city and barangay risk reduction and management teams to be put on red-alert.

The City Government is preparing for the prepositioning of emergency response resources and equipment such as generator sets, rescue boats, emergency vehicles including government flexi-trucks, search and rescue equipment, among others.

Pruning of trees along dangerous areas are also being prepared by the local environmental sanitation center. Construction sites are set to be inspected to ensure safety precautions on cranes and construction booms while billboards in the city are being rolled up.

According to the 11:00AM weather bulletin of DOST-PAGASA, Tropical Storm Dante has made landfall at San Agustin, Romblon at around 8:50 AM and will continue moving northwestward passing Batangas before making another landfall over Bataan tonight.

TS Dante is forecasted to bring moderate to heavy rains in Metro Manila and will maintain its strength until it makes landfall over mainland Luzon.

The Muntinlupa City Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (MCDDRM) advised city residents to be vigilant and monitor advisories from PAG-ASA and the local government.

For emergency concerns, Muntinlupa City residents may reach the local hotline at 137-175.

Muntinlupa City inaugurates state-of-the-art Disaster Resilience Mobile Learning Hub, the first in NCR

In an effort to improve community resilience and level of disaster preparedness of city residents, the City Government of Muntinlupa formally inaugurated its Mobile Learning Hub, the first innovative roving ‘learning bus’ in Metro Manila designed teach disaster resilience.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi, Congressman Ruffy Biazon, and other local officials inaugurated the Department of Disaster Resilience and Management (DDRM) Mobile Learning Hub during the City Government’s first flag raising ceremony yesterday.

The learning bus is equipped with state-of-the-art Virtual Reality area where residents can wear VR headsets to experience being in ‘close-to-actual’ scenarios of disasters including earthquakes, flooding, storm surge, bomb explosion, chemical poisoning, volcanic eruption, tsunami, and landslide.

The VR facility aims to provide immersive, visual and sound-based experience of weather disturbances and calamities and to train residents on disaster response.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi inaugurated the city’s DRRM Mobile Learning Hub and tried the Virtual Reality facility during its inauguration ceremony last January 4. Muntinlupa LGU officials led the inauguration ceremony of the Mobile Learning Hub, the first innovative roving ‘learning bus’ in Metro Manila to teach disaster resilience. Further, the DDRM Mobile Learning Hub has an interactive Lecture Area with informative videos on COVID-19 Protective Measures, Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Preparedness, First Aid Response and Management, and Basic Life Support, among others.

Muntinlupa City DDRM chief Erwin Alfonso says the Mobile Learning Hub targets to mainstream disaster mitigation, adaptation, and resiliency by bringing learning resources to communities and vulnerable sectors.

Alfonso added that as the Learning Hub is expected to visit several communities during the time of the pandemic, health and safety protocols will be strictly implemented and regular disinfection of the facility will be conducted. MCDDRM is yet to release the schedule of the Mobile Learning Hub through their Facebook Page.

Mayor Fresnedi hopes that the Mobile Learning Hub will empower Muntinlupeños to become well-prepared on disasters and calamities and to enhance their level of preparedness and awareness on climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Recently, the local disaster response department also installed early warning system across the city to inform communities in a timely manner about typhoon signal warnings, severe flooding, and earthquakes, among others.

Muntinlupa City has been named Rank 1 in the Resilience Pillar – Highly Urbanized Cities category of the 2020 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index organized by the Department of Trade and Industry and National Competitiveness Council. The city bested at least 145 LGUs in the country and was followed by Valenzuela City (Rank 2) and Manila City (Rank 3).

As of January 3, Muntinlupa City has 54 active cases, 5,126 confirmed cases with 4,905 recoveries, 167 reported deaths, 22 suspect cases, and 138 probable cases.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei Nograles (2nd from left) joined the local government of Muntinlupa’s flag raising ceremony and donated 2,100 food packs to local execs on Monday. CabSec Nograles, who is also the chair of the Task Force Zero Hunger, said the food distribution effort is part of the Pilipinas Kontra Gutom (PKG) campaign, a collaboration between stakeholders in the government and private sector. Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi visits fire victims in Ilaya St., Alabang to extend the local government’s assistance on December 11, 2020. According to BFP Muntinlupa, at least 100 houses were razed by the fire incident leaving around 200 families displaced. The local government of Muntinlupa has provided hot meals and family kits to affected families who were temporarily taking shelter in Alabang Elementary School Covered Court. The City Health Office and Department of Disaster Resilience and Management are closely monitoring the evacuation center to mitigate COVID-19 transmission. Fire victims are also set to receive financial assistance through a local resolution. The cause of fire is still under investigation. (source – Muntinlupa PIO)

Muntinlupa City Government donates P2 million to quake-stricken Itbayat, Batanes for rehabilitation

The City Government of Muntinlupa announced today that it has donated P2,000,000 to  the Batanes Provincial Government for Itbayat’s rehabilitation after being struck by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake this past July. The donation was done through the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

City Councilor members Marissa Rongavilla, Alexson Diaz, Katy Boncayao, and DRRMO chief Erwin Alfonso represented Mayor Jaime Fresnedi in the official turn-over ceremony of the  financial assistance to Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco on August 17.

The City Government claims that the financial aid to the Municipality of Itbayat, Batanes will be used to implement development projects in the town and construction of a housing project for the 268 affected families. Governor Cayco extended her utmost thanks to the City Government of Muntinlupa and Mayor Fresnedi for the assistance.

It is recalled that on July 27, a series of strong earthquakes jolted Itbayat town which caused damage to structures and leaving eight (8) people dead and dozens injured.

According to bulletins from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the town was hit by magnitudes 5.4, 5.9, 5.8 within hours of each other and several aftershocks. No tsunami alerts were issued.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi said that this initiative is the city’s share in helping our kababayans who are in need.

“In the spirit of bayanihan, the local government of Muntinlupa will continue to lend its hand to towns in the country needing assistance,” Fresnedi added.
