COVID-19 Crisis: Almost 65 million doses of vaccines received by the Philippines so far

The chances of the Philippines achieving herd immunity before the end of this year look somewhat better as the nation received so far almost 65 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines including almost 10 million in a single week recently according to a news report by the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The country has so far received a total of 64,942,000 vaccine doses, including the 9,586,270 doses from Sept. 13 to 19 — the highest weekly delivery since the life-saving shots from various manufacturers started arriving in February.

In a news release issued by the National Task Force Against Covid-19 on Monday night, it said of these shipments, 6,171,590 million doses arrived over the weekend. A total of 561,600 Pfizer doses donated by the US through COVAX Facility arrived Monday evening.

The national government continues to build up the Covid-19 vaccine inventory with the steady arrival of larger shipments of government-procured and donated vaccine supplies.

“We are very happy with the developments in our vaccine acquisition efforts especially with the recent deliveries,“ National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said.

“This is a testament of our collective effort — from the national government, the local government units, the private sector, and the global community — in securing much-needed doses for our people,” Galvez added.

Of the more than 9.58 million doses delivered last week, 6.65 million combined doses of Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna and Sputnik V vaccines were procured by the national government, 909,400 doses of AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines were purchased by the private sector and local government units (LGUs), and 2.02 million doses were donations through the COVAX Facility.

“We are now beginning to reap the benefits of having a forward-looking and sustainable plan in our vaccine procurement. We will continue to negotiate and hopefully sustain this bulk allocation and delivery schedule in the coming weeks,” Galvez said.

He earlier announced that more than 34 million doses are expected to be delivered this month from various sources and manufacturers. Of this number, 13,041,410 doses have been delivered.

Sustaining bulk deliveries

Vaccine manufacturers and the national government are in talks to scale up the country’s monthly allocation beginning this month, Galvez bared.

Despite most of the supply contracts indicating that the volume of the Philippines’ orders will be shipped in the fourth quarter, the NTF continued to engage with the manufacturers as part of its aggressive efforts to secure additional vaccine doses.

“We are grateful to our embassies and our consular offices around the globe for their hard work and determination to help our country access and secure the 30 million doses that we need monthly,” he said.

As of Sept. 19, a total of 41,414,015 jabs have been administered nationwide. Fully protected persons are now at 18,560,409 or 24.06 percent of the country’s 77 million target population.

More than 22.85 million vaccine doses have been administered as the first shot.

In the National Capital Region, 84.47 percent of its target population have received at least one dose, while 66.3 percent have been fully inoculated.

COVID-19 Crisis: Almost 9,000 minors registered for COVID-19 vaccines in Muntinlupa City

Since it officially launched the online registration process for local minors (12 to 17-years-old) for COVID-19 vaccination, the City Government of Muntinlupa announced that almost nine thousand minors have been registered according to a Manila Bulletin news report.

Nearly 9,000 minors from 12 to 17-year-olds have already signed up for the Muntinlupa City government’s vaccination registration program.

According to the city government, from Sept. 14 to 20, or in one week after its launch, 8,812 people belonging to the 12-17 age group are now registered.

The total translates to 16 percent of Muntinlupa’s total population of 55,391 of 12 to 17-year-olds based on the 2020 Census of Population and Housing data from Muntinlupa’s City Planning and Development Office.

When the vaccination registration for minors was launched last Sept. 14, a total of 3,477 minors registered.

By barangay, out of the 8,812, Putatan has the highest number of registrants with 1,623, followed by Tunasan, 1,218; Poblacion, 1,153; Alabang, 978; Cupang, 781; Sucat, 570; Ayala Alabang, 493; Bayanan, 484; and Buli, 154. Non-residents who registered totaled 1,358.

Of the 55,391 population of 12 to 17-year-old in Muntinlupa, Poblacion has the highest number with 12,243 followed by Putatan, 10,164; Alabang, 7,244; Tunasan, 6,256; Cupang, 5,830; Sucat, 5,744; Bayanan, 3,990; Ayala Alabang, 2,560; and Buli, 1,360.

As of Sept. 17, the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program has administered 554,197 vaccines.

A total of 324,690 individuals have received their first dose, or 84.2 percent of the target population of 385,725. In addition, 233,866 people are now fully vaccinated, or 60.6 percent of the target.

The country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had earlier agreed to amend the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) given to Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines to make them available for use for 12 years old and above.

However, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a media briefing on Sept. 20 that there is no recommendation yet from experts to vaccinate those belonging to the 12 to 17 years age bracket.

COVID-19 Crisis: Over 550,000 vaccinations in Muntinlupa City registered

This past weekend the City Government of Muntinlupa announced through its MunCoVac team that it has administered more than 550,000 vaccines as of September 17, 2021.

To put things in perspective, the following statistics released by MunCoVac were recorded as of September 17, 2021:

Total number of individuals vaccinated: 324,690 (note: 12,916 of these were vaccinated in Muntinlupa private companies)

Total number of individuals fully vaccinated: 233,866 (note: 723 of these were vaccinated with in Muntinlupa private companies)

Declared total of vaccines administered: 554,197

According to MunCoVac: 554,197 vaccines have been administered in our city as of yesterday, September 17. 84.2% have had their first dose, while 60.6% of our target population have been fully vaccinated.

As we are nearing the end of the 3rd quarter of this year, we ask all Muntinlupeños to continue following our health protocols, and, go to your assigned vaccination schedule once you have received a text from MunCoVac.

As before, these latest numbers from MunCoVac do not add up. 324,690 plus 233,866 equals 558,556. There is a discrepancy of 4,359.

Recently the City Government of Muntinlupa officially launched the online registration process for local minors (aged 12 to 17) for the free COVID-19 vaccines according to a Manila Bulletin news report. Muntinlupa was one of the six local government units (LGUs) of Metro Manila to engage with such a process. These recent developments are all part of a collective effort to achieve herd immunity.

The Muntinlupa City government on Tuesday launched the online vaccination registration for 12 to 17 years old in the city.

This after the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for 12 years old and above.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged parents and guardians to register their children for the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac) as protection from the adverse effects of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

He said the registration is intended to create a database of the adolescents’ group eligible for COVID-19 vaccines in preparation for the final guidelines from the Department of Health (DOH).

Muntinlupa residents aged 12 to 17 may register online through the city’s COVID-19 vaccination registration system at www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac and choose category “C – Rest of Population.”

As of Sept. 8, the Muntinlupa City government has administered a total of 507,964 vaccines, according to MunCoVac.

A total of 192,360 individuals are now fully vaccinated in Muntinlupa, or 49.9 percent of the target population of 385,725, while 319,963 individuals got their first dose, or 83 percent of the total target.

COVID-19 Crisis: Las Piñas City inoculation count now over 700,000

This past Sunday, the City Government of Las Piñas announced that its overall inoculation count has surpassed the 700,000 mark. Along the way, the number of patients who received their first vaccine dose surpassed 400,000 while the number of fully vaccinated patients in the city exceeded 300,000.

To be more specific, the official count as of September 11, 2021, was 709,368 in total inoculation. As for the breakdowns, 403,191 patients were vaccinated with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while 314,888 patients got vaccinated with the second dose.

As before, the numbers of first dose and second dose do not add up to match the declared inoculation total of 709,368. Do the math, 403,191 first dose patients plus 314,888 second dose patients equal 718,079 in all. That’s a discrepancy of 8,711. The discrepancy is around 1.23% of the September 11 grand total.

To put things in perspective, posted below is the official visual reference released by the City Government on their Facebook page on September 5, 2021 and this includes the types of patients who got vaccinated. Also notable is the count of the single-dose Janssen vaccine from Johnson & Johnson.

COVID-19 Crisis: DTI Secretary Lopez pushes for easing of protocols for fully vaccinated people

Previously, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez proposed to allow vaccinated people to dine in food-and-beverage joints as well as enter the personal care service establishments during the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). This past weekend, the Philippine News Agency (PNA) reported that the DTI Secretary is back and called for the easing of protocols for people who have been fully vaccinated and Metro Manila could be the region to have such moves pilot tested within.

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez has endorsed tweaking of community quarantine protocols by allowing more mobility for fully vaccinated individuals.

During President Rodrigo Duterte’s Talk to the People aired over the weekend, Lopez told Duterte that “it is about time to change our protocol” in terms of easing some restrictions for the vaccinated population.

“We were discussing the need to have (a) different approach in terms of solving Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019); not just lockdowns,” he said in mixed English and Filipino.

The DTI chief said under the new protocol, fully vaccinated individuals could be allowed in restricted economic activities, such as dine-in services in restaurants and personal care services.

He said this would allow safe reopening of the economy as fully vaccinated people have protection against the Covid-19.

People with complete vaccines are unlikely to develop severe to critical Covid-19, he added.

“These are labor intensive. These sectors, there are 2 million individuals employed in dine-in restaurants. In salons, there are around 400,000. This is nationwide,” Lopez said.

The trade official said this could be pilot tested in Metro Manila, as the National Capital Region has more than 50 percent of its eligible population for Covid-19 vaccines already got their jabs.

The above article ended stating that the guidelines of the protocol are being finalized. It is very clear that lockdown and restrictions on businesses result a massive loss of income and a rise on unemployment. The DTI Secretary’s proposal is part of an effort to ensure that the Philippine economy will recover and rebound, and if you have been paying close attention to the number of Metro Manila cities that have been vaccinating their patients, there are now millions of fully vaccinated people in the National Capital Region (NCR) combined. In the City of Las Piñas alone, their fully vaccinated patients had reached almost 315,000 as of September 11, 2021. In Muntinlupa City, the number of fully vaccinated patients is almost 200,000.

You travel along Aguirre Avenue inside BF Homes subdivision and you will see lots of restaurants, coffee shops and personal care service providers located along the long road. A lot of them have been struggling because of the prohibition on customers from entering and spending time inside those business joints. You go to Filinvest City in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, and search for a place to have a nice meal at only to be disappointed that you cannot dine inside and will have to order for take-out. Take-out and delivery are the current options that food-and-beverage joints have when it comes to serving their customers but those options are not good enough to help them survive. For me, DTI Secretary Lopez’s proposal makes sense and it will help not only the struggling businesses and the unemployed, but also improve economic activity.

Yesterday, MunCoVac announced that the grand total number of COVID-19 vaccinations achieved in Muntinlupa City has exceeded the 500,000 mark. Muntinlupa is slowly but surely coming close to achieving herd immunity.

To put things in perspective, the following statistics released by MunCoVac were recorded as of September 8, 2021:

Total number of individuals vaccinated: 319,963 (note: 11,404 were vaccinated with 1^st dose in Muntinlupa private companies)

Total number of individuals fully vaccinated: 192,360 (note: 597 were vaccinated with 2^nd dose in Muntinlupa private companies)

Declared total of vaccines administered: 507,964

According to MunCoVac: As of yesterday, September 8, we have administered a total of 507,964 vaccines.

83% of the target population of Muntinlupeños have been vaccinated with at least one dose while 49.9% have been fully vaccinated, only a mere 0.1% shy to being halfway towards achieving herd immunity for our city.

Like their counterparts in Las Piñas City, Muntinlupa’s declared numbers just don’t add up. If you do the math, 319,963 plus 192,360 equals 512,323 total. There is a discrepancy of 4,359.

COVID-19 Crisis: Around 44% of Muntinlupa City’s target population fully vaccinated

This past weekend, MunCoVac published through its Facebook page the latest statistics about the vaccinated residents of Muntinlupa City showing that 169,444 patients have been fully vaccinated which is equivalent to almost 44% of the target population of 385,725. Those numbers were accurate as of September 3, 2021. In connection to this, the Manila Bulletin published a news story about Muntinlupa’s vaccination statistics.

The Muntinlupa City government announced that it has fully vaccinated 44 percent of its target population.

According to figures from the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac), a total of 169,444 individuals are now fully vaccinated, or 43.9 percent of the target population of 385,725.

The target population for vaccination is 70 percent of the estimated total population of 551,036 in Muntinlupa.

For the first dose, 318,647 have been vaccinated, equivalent to 82.6 percent of the target population and it includes 11,404 individuals who got the shots at vaccination sites of private companies in the city.

According to MunCoVac, 483,732 vaccines have been administered to date.

By barangay, Buli has the highest first dose vaccination rate with 107 percent as of Aug. 28; followed by Cupang, 97 percent; Ayala Alabang, 96 percent; Alabang, 93 percent; Tunasan, 82 percent; Sucat, 76 percent; Bayanan, 71 percent; Putatan, 69 percent; and Poblacion, 53 percent.

By fully vaccinated population, Brgy. Ayala Alabang is leading with 70 percent; followed by Cupang, 58 percent; Alabang, 47 percent; Tunasan, 41 percent; Sucat, 40 percent; Buli, 36 percent; Putatan, 34 percent; Bayanan, 31 percent; and Poblacion, 24 percent.

Data showed unvaccinated people accounted for 65 percent of the total active COVID-19 cases in Muntinlupa.

COVID-19 Crisis: 65% of active COVID-19 cases in Muntinlupa are those of unvaccinated patients

Recently the Manila Bulletin reported that a majority of the active COVID-19 cases in the City of Muntinlupa are those who are unvaccinated. Specifically, unvaccinated patients count for 65% of the city’s active cases as of August 16, 2021.

The Muntinlupa City government reported that 65 percent of active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the city are unvaccinated individuals.

As of Aug. 16, there are 1,756 active COVID-19 cases in Muntinlupa and of the total, 1,140 (65 percent) are unvaccinated, 160 (9 percent) are partially vaccinated, 333 (19 percent) are fully vaccinated and 123 (7 percent) are minors, who are not yet eligible to be inoculated.

All the 1,756 active COVID-19 are either asymptomatic or with mild symptoms. No case has moderate to severe symptoms.

Among the 1,140 unvaccinated positive cases, 934 (82 percent) are asymptomatic while 206 (18 percent) have mild symptoms of COVID-19.

Of the positive 160 partially vaccinated individuals, 123 (77 percent) are asymptomatic and 37 (23 percent) have mild symptoms.

Among the positive 333 fully vaccinated, 258 (77 percent) are asymptomatic and 75 (23 percent) mild symptoms. All the 123 minors who are positive for COVID-19 are asymptomatic.

By barangay, Putatan has the highest number of active COVID-19 cases with 458, or 26 percent of the 1,756 total active cases in Muntinlupa followed by Poblacion with 350 (20 percent), Tunasan with 288 (16.4 percent), Alabang with 203 (11.56 percent), Cupang with 140 (7.9 percent), Sucat with 132 (7.5 percent), Bayanan with 94 (5.35 percent), Ayala Alabang with 74 (4.2 percent) and Buli with 17 (0.96 percent).

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi urged the people to register and get vaccinated to protect them against COVID-19.

As of Aug. 13, Muntinlupa has deployed 393,769 vaccines. A total of 248,579 individuals received the first dose, including 7,160 who were vaccinated at sites in private companies, or 64.4 percent of the target population of 385,725.

The above report ended mentioning that almost 150,000 individuals in Muntinlupa have been fully vaccinated. While it is a fact that being fully vaccinated does not guarantee 100% immunity from COVID-19, it definitely still more protective than being unvaccinated. COVID-19 vaccines are essentially helpful.

COVID-19 Crisis: Muntinlupa logs 64% of target residents to receive 1st dose of COVID-19 jab, launches “Bakuna sa Gabi” for A4 workers

The City Gover of Muntinlupa, through the Muntinlupa City COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac), announced recently that more than 50% of the target population has received their COVID-19 jab as the city ramps up its vaccine roll-out.

“Higit 50% ng target population na ang nakatanggap ng at least one dose ng bakuna, samantalang 149,549 naman o 38.7% ng target ang fully vaccinated na. Nagbukas ng bagong vaccination sites sa ating lungsod upang patuloy na mabigyang proteksyon ang bawat isa kontra COVID-19,” MunCoVac posted on its Facebook page.

As of August 13, there are 393,769 vaccines deployed in Muntinlupa of which 248,579 are first dose (64.4% of the target) and 149,549 are second dose (38.7% of the target). From the total number of first dose vaccinees, 7,160 were inoculated in vaccination sites of Muntinlupa private companies.

The target population to be vaccinated in Muntinlupa is 385,725 individuals or 70% of 551,036 Muntinlupa’s estimated population for 2020.

Further, MunCoVac also launched the “Bakuna sa Gabi” program or the extended hours of vaccination operations for A4 category individuals.

The Bakuna sa Gabi program was launched at the New Cupang Health Center just two days ago from 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM for economic frontliners. The public is advised that the schedule for the program is only by appointment and residents are encouraged to register online via www.vaccine.muntinlupacity.gov.ph/muncovac.

Earlier, MunCoVac announced that walk-ins will not be accommodated in the vaccination sites, except for senior citizens. The City Government urges those who do not have a confirmed vaccination schedule from MunCoVac to refrain from proceeding to the vaccination sites.

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi encouraged the public to avail the vaccination service of the City Government especially during the ECQ for them to have an added protection against the adverse effects of COVID-19. Fresnedi also urged Muntinlupeños to continue observing minimum health protocols such as wearing of face mask and face shield, physical distancing, and frequent washing of hands.

Meanwhile, the City Health Office has recorded a significant rise in the average number of daily confirmed cases for the last two weeks, while the local Ospital ng Muntinlupa has reached its full bed capacity for COVID-19 and non-COVID cases.

Muntinlupa CHO chief Dr. Juancho Bunyi reported that the average daily confirmed cases for the last two weeks is now at 118 cases per day. In the previous two-week period (July 20-Aug 2) prior to the imposition of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila, the city only logged an average of 47 cases per day.

Bunyi also noted that the city’s attack rate and positivity rate are at an alarming level. As of August 15, the attack rate in the city is now at 30.24 per 1,000 population and the positivity rate is at 13.16%.

The total bed occupancy rate at Ospital ng Muntinlupa has also reached 115% with 237 patients in the hospital out of 206 bed capacity. While the bed capacity rate for COVID-19 cases has rose to 103% with 106 patients admitted out of the allotted 103 beds as of August 15.

Further, the local isolation facilities in Pacwood Site, Ospital ng Muntinlupa and barangays have an occupancy rate of 102 patients, of which 95 are COVID-19 positive patients and 7 are probable cases, out of the 175-bed capacity as of the same date.

With the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases and high attack rate in certain communities, the City Government imposed the Enhanced Localized Community Quarantine in 5 areas of concern.

The areas under hard lockdown include Purok 3, Molera Compound in Barangay Sucat and Purok 7, Beatriz Compound, De Mesa L & B Street in Barangay Alabang from August 13 – 27, Block 8, Hills View and Mangga St., Lakeview Homes in Barangay Putatan from August 12 – 26 and Chico St., Laguerta in Barangay Tunasan from August 10 – 25.

Muntinlupa City has 16,548 confirmed cases with 14,596 recoveries, 1,547 active cases, 405 reported deaths, 37 suspect cases, and 2,107 probable cases as of August 15.
